Scotland County Detective Division said 28-year-old James A Morman III (pictured left) visited Scotland County jail in the guise of a minister.
A search of the Bible he was carrying revealed strips of opioids inside.
Authorities conducted a sweep of the detention facility and a number of illegal substances and contraband were found.
It is unclear whether Morman had visited the jail before with other drug-filled Bibles. Morman and inmate Bryson Brown (pictured right) have been charged in connection with the operation.
