Open Heavens for Teens 8 February 2019 – Whatsoever Things are of Praise

Topic: Whatsoever Things are of Praise [Open Heavens for Teens 8 February 2019]

Memorise: “I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” – Psalm 34:1

Read: Philippians 4:8

8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].

Bible In One Year: Leviticus 4-6, Matthew 25:1-30

MESSAGE:

Many people are angry with God because they feel He did not show up for them when they needed Him. They forget that His ways are not our ways. Isaiah 45:9 says woe unto anyone that strife with his maker
.
I laugh most times when I hear people give God ultimatums to do their bidding. First and foremost, he knows what is best for you and that is what you should be asking Him to do. Secondly, if He doesn’t do what you want, what can you do? Will you charge Him to court? Who will rule against the King of kings?

In our memory verse for today, David said he will bless the Lord at ALL times. That is, whether in sorrow or happiness, plenty or lack, life or death, he will continue to bless the Lord. He also said in Psalm 71:20 that even though he had been through many sorrows, He knew that God would raise him up again. This should be your attitude towards God, don’t think of God as someone who brought you pain, think of Him as the one who heals your broken heart.

Key Point:

You can’t fight the Maker of heaven and earth, praise Him instead.

Andrew Wommack 8 February 2019 Devotional – He Left Judaea

Topic: He Left Judaea [Andrew Wommack 8 February 2019 Devotional]

John 4:1,3, “When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized disciples more than John…He left Judaea.”

Text: MT. 4:12; MK. 1:14; JN. 4:1-3

This is an interesting passage of scripture. On the surface, it might look like Jesus was running from a fight. Now that John the Baptist was out of the way (he had been imprisoned), it was inevitable that the Pharisees would attack Jesus.

One thing we can be sure of is that there was no fear on our Lord’s part. On other occasions He demonstrated that no one could do anything to Him if He didn’t allow it (Lk. 4:29-30; Jn. 7:30, 44-46; 8:20, 59; 10:39).

Therefore we can assume that Jesus left because He knew it was God’s will. On another occasion when His half brothers dared Him to go to Jerusalem and confront the Pharisees, He told them that it wasn’t time for Him to go yet (Jn. 7:1-6). A lesser man would have been intimidated into showing His superiority.

Jesus was the most selfless person who ever walked the earth. He did not come to earth for Himself, but for us. If He would have defended Himself, we would have never been saved. The humility of Jesus was surely interpreted by some to be weakness, but in truth it was love. Not love for Himself, but love for a dying world of which He was the only hope.

Billy Graham Devotional 8 February 2019 – Power Over Sin

Topic: Power Over Sin [Billy Graham Devotional 8 February 2019]

Those who belong to Christ have nailed their natural evil desires to his cross and crucified them there. — Galatians 5:24 (TLB)

The strength for our conquering and our victory is drawn continually from Christ. The Bible does not teach that sin is completely eradicated from the Christian in this life, but it does teach that sin shall no longer reign over you. The strength and power of sin have been broken.

The Christian now has resources available to live above and beyond this world. The Bible teaches that whosoever is born of God does not practice sin. It is like the little girl who said that when the devil came knocking with a temptation, she just sent Jesus to the door.

Prayer for the day: Lord Jesus, I need Your power continually. You know how many times I am tempted.

Despite Being Held Prisoner for Two Years in Turkey, Pastor Brunson Says He Wants to Go Back

Despite Being Held Prisoner for Two Years in Turkey, Pastor Brunson Says He Wants to Go Back

Despite being held prisoner in Turkey for more than two years, North Carolina Pastor Andrew Brunson shared on Wednesday that he would like to go back.

According to the Christian Post, Brunson shared with the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom that he knows God loves the Turkish people and he feels as if he is still being called to serve there.

Brunson met the USCIRF on Wednesday at the Senate Welcome Center to thank the commission for the tireless work they put forth while advocating for his release.

He said of the United States to the commission, “I don’t know how many countries have this kind of emphasis on religious freedom, not just in their own country but trying to advocate for it around the world. I think this is something very unusual, very admirable.”

His wife Noreen also thanked the commission for providing support to her husband while he was being jailed in Turkey. She said, “We’re aware that not all stories end the way ours did, so just keep up your work. And we have to give glory to God.”

Brunson added that since his arrest and eventual release he fears that restrictions on Christians will become more aggressive in Turkey. He told the USCIRF, “I think there is going to be more difficulty for the church in Turkey.”

“There are more restrictions coming right now. There have been a number of missionaries…

‘Fetus Shall Not Have Independent Rights,’ Vermont Abortion Bill Declares

‘Fetus Shall Not Have Independent Rights,’ Vermont Abortion Bill Declares

A bill in the Vermont House that has more than 80 co-sponsors declares that fetuses have no rights and that women who perform their own abortions cannot be prosecuted.

Some observers are calling this bill even more radical than the controversial abortion bills in New York and Virginia. The abortion bill in New York was signed into law last month.

“Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry a pregnancy to term, give birth to a child, or to have an abortion,” the bill, H. 57, says.

The bill then declares: “A fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus shall not have independent rights under Vermont law.” The New York law did not include such language.

It even gives Vermont citizens the right to perform their own abortions.

“No State or local law enforcement shall prosecute any individual for inducing, performing, or attempting to induce or perform the individual’s own abortion,” it reads.

The bill is known as the Freedom of Choice Act.

“This bill proposes to recognize as a fundamental right the freedom of reproductive choice and to prohibit public entities from interfering with or restricting the right of an individual to terminate the individual’s pregnancy,” it reads.

The state’s pro-life leaders say they will fight to defeat it.

“I think it’s completely dangerous,…

President Trump Quotes Jeremiah 1:5 in Defending Unborn Life at National Prayer Breakfast

President Trump Quotes Jeremiah 1:5 in Defending Unborn Life at National Prayer Breakfast

President Trump on Thursday committed to helping protect faith-based adoption agencies and then quoted the book of Jeremiah in reaffirming his position on the unborn.

Trump’s comments came at the National Prayer Breakfast, an annual event that brings together different religious groups and members from both parties. Every president since President Eisenhower has attended.

Trump discussed several issues, including anti-Semitism, human and sex trafficking, and religious liberty, but his remarks about abortion received the loudest applause.

“As part of our commitment to building a just and loving society, we must build a culture that cherishes the dignity and sanctity of innocent human life,” Trump said. “All children, born and unborn, are made in the holy image of God. Every life is sacred, and every soul is a precious gift from heaven.

“As the Lord says in Jeremiah, ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you before you were born. I set you apart,’” he added, quoting from Jeremiah 1:5.

To underscore his point, Trump recounted the story of a baby named Grayson that was born in the backseat of a car during a snowstorm four months premature, weighing only one pound, 11 ounces. Doctors were unsure if he would survive. The parents, Nikki and Tyler Watkinson, were in attendance at the prayer breakfast.

“Nikki and…

Nigerian government failing to stop Fulani militants killing Christians, charity says

International Christian Concern (ICC) reported a spike in brutal killings in 2018 in the country’s Middle Belt region, with the heaviest attacks taking place in Plateau State.

According to a report by the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED), approximately 1,930 deaths were attributed to Fulani militants in 2018 alone, nearly six times the death toll caused by terrorist group Boko Haram.

The Global Terrorism Index reported: “At its core, the herder-farmer violence occurring in Nigeria revolves around the economic plight resulting from the worsening drought and land degradation in Nigeria’s northern regions.

“The livelihood of Nigeria’s Fulani population is threatened as desertification of their land pushes them south.”

However, the ICC said in a statement this “does not account for the dozens of villages that were completely razed and the more than 30 churches that were destroyed in Plateau State alone”.

World Watch Monitor

The Christian charity has called on the Nigerian government to do more to stem the violence.

They added: “Despite these violent attacks, there have been no major attempts by the Nigerian government to hold the Fulani accountable or disarm them.

“Both of these steps must happen if this violence is to be stopped. The Middle Belt conflict should be a cause of great concern for President Buhari and all…

Legal Struggle of Doctor Reflects Wider Harassment of Christians in India

Legal Struggle of Doctor Reflects Wider Harassment of Christians in India

HYDERABAD, India, February 7, 2019 (Morning Star News) – Emergency medicine doctor Christo Thomas Philip was returning with his family to his native India from a medical conference in Greece when immigration officials at Delhi’s Indira Ghandi International Airport took him into custody.

His deportation from India on that day, April 26, 2016, came after working for three years treating destitute people on the verge of death from snakebites, HIV, diphtheria, tuberculosis and heart failure, among other conditions, in Raxaul, a remote area of eastern India’s Bihar state. He was planning to return to his work there at the emergency care unit of Duncan Hospital.

“My wife and children were allowed entry back into the country,” Philip, 36, told Morning Star News. “But as soon as my passport was scanned, I was surrounded by multiple Indian immigration officials, taken into custody and was informed that I had an hour to leave the country.”

At age 10 Philip had migrated with his family to the United States, where he was educated. He had a life-time visa to India and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, but the immigration officials confiscated the card and his passport, telling him only that he was no longer welcome on orders of the Consulate General of India in Houston, Texas.

“It broke my heart to see my family from behind the cordoned-off section of…

Education Secretary praises church schools and youth groups

In Methodist Central Hall in Westminster on Thursday, hundreds of teachers, students, church leaders and educational professionals gathered to talk about the future of education and specifically how to build character and confidence among pupils from every background.

After a congregational rendition of Be Thou My Vision, the Education Secretary delivered his speech, saying: “The Church of England obviously knows a thing or two about character – it’s one of the reasons your schools get such good results, why 88% of them are rated good or outstanding. Yours is one of the biggest names in education in the country – the single biggest name in primary education in particular. There have been church schools even longer, of course, than there have been state schools.

“Now we’re seeing a further development of distinctive diocesan church multi academy trusts and I want to see more people, I hope, coming through from parishes to join in with that as governors and trustees.”

Damian Hinds, who went to a Catholic school himself, went on to say that he wants ‘public school confidence’ to be a term of the past but the attribute to be available to students of every background, through greater access to creative, voluntary and performance-based activities.

When asked by Premier Christian Radio whether this was something churches could help with, as they’ve been providing youth…
