Vicar says his ‘thoughts and prayers’ are with lead thieves

Thieves drove through the main gate of All Saints Church in Ripley’s churchyard in a van sometime between last Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

The damage made to Grade II listed church is expected to cost thousands to repair.

While Rev Paul Harford said the incident has pulled “time, energy and money, away from the church’s engagement with the community”, he revealed he was left pondering the motive behind the crime.

He told the Harrogate Advertiser: “A historic building has been damaged, and put at great risk of further damage, but is that the real concern here? Should we not be questioning how we have created a society in which people are driven to such dangerous, and desperate acts of vandalism to support themselves?

“My thoughts and prayers are with the perpetrators of this crime, they need help even more than our poor roof.”

The church is considering installing a new roof alarm system following the incident, if enough funds can be raised.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses, or those with information to come forward to the incident by calling 101 quoting reference NYP-1012019-0102.

People wishing to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

New Florida Bill Will Require Public High Schools to Offer Classes on the Bible and Religion

New Florida Bill Will Require Public High Schools to Offer Classes on the Bible and Religion

Florida state legislators recently introduced a new bill that will require the school districts to offer classes on religion and the Bible in public high schools.

House Bill 195 was filed by Florida House Democrat Kimberly Daniel last week and requires “each school district to offer specified courses relating to religion, Hebrew Scriptures, and the Bible to certain students as elective courses,” WFTV 9 reports.

Along with the study of the Bible, the bill states it will also allow for a “brief meditation period.”

Teachers teaching these courses will be required to approach the subject in an objective matter as to adhere to state and federal laws.

The bill states that all teachers must maintain “religious neutrality and accommodating the diverse religious views, traditions, and perspectives of all students in the school. A course offered pursuant to this section may not endorse, favor, or promote or disfavor or show hostility toward a particular religion, religious perspective, or nonreligious faith.”

The act, which will serve as an amendment to Florida’s 1003.45, F.S. law, will take effect July 1, the bill states.

Pope says it’s ok to row but not in front of your kids

During a baptism service of 27 newborn babies at the weekend, Pope Francis spoke about how faith was transmitted in the home.

In the annual service, held in the Sistine Chapel, the Pontiff said: “This faith must be developed; it must grow.”

The Pope explained that this will be through the parents’ example and advised that adults don’t argue in view of their children.

“Never fight in front of your children,” he said. “It’s normal that parents should argue; the opposite would be strange. Do it, but without letting them hear or see.”

He said: “You have no idea the anguish it causes a child to see his or her parents fight.

“This, I dare, is a piece of advice that will help you pass on the faith.”

10-Year-Old ‘Child Drag Star’ Photographed Posing with Naked Adult Drag Queen

10-Year-Old ‘Child Drag Star’ Photographed Posing with Naked Adult Drag Queen

A photo was shared to Twitter on Thursday of a 10-year-old Canadian “drag kid” called Nemis Quinn Mélançon-Golden with a fully grown, adult drag queen who is completely naked.

According to CBN News, a London Magazine called Huck recently ran a piece about Mélançon-Golden, whose stage name is “Queen Lactacia,” marking him as the most famed “child drag star in Canada.”

The piece featured several photos of the young boy dressed in drag and surrounded by other drag queens. One photo that did not make the magazine’s article, but was still posted by Mélançon-Golden to social media and was later re-uploaded to Twitter, features the 10-year-old posing with “RuPaul’s Drag Race” winner Violet Chachki who was fully naked minus a small cloth covering his genitals, drag makeup and a wig.

As soon as the photo was posted, it received immediate backlash from people from all walks of life, some Twitter users even shared that they reported the Tweet.

One Twitter user wrote, “SOOO sad and disturbing that this is glamourized as something admirable in a sick a twisted facet of our society. It’s one thing for a person (adult) to do this, but a child is a child and this should be considered a crime.”

Another commented, “This can’t be real, trans/ drag/ gay or straight, this should no way be done, a young kid with a naked adult, apart from the…

Methodist Church launches new evangelism team

Trey Hall began putting a team together after he started work last summer.

The new team will look to work with churches up and down the UK to promote evangelism and help congregations reach their local communities.

It will focus on supporting the Methodist Church’s network of 4,650 churches.

Speaking to Premier about the need for action, Hall said: “[In] many denominations, many Christian traditions in the UK and western Europe and indeed in the West in general, the church has been less successful in ministry with new generations over the past couple of generations and so we find ourselves in a state of decline.”

The team says it wants to take risks as it tries to develop new places for new people and to help existing churches come alive and grow.

Three new members of staff are due to start work in the next few months.

“The part that makes me the most excited is a sort of adventure, a way of reaching out and looking for conversation partners and doing spiritual journey with people who are not currently affiliated to organised religion and haven’t been,” Hall said.

The new team will be travelling across the nation over the coming months, meeting with church leaders and congregations, and working collaboratively to equip the church for new life.

It consists of Emma Nash, Mission and Community Engagement Officer, Matt Finch, Pioneering and Church Planting Officer and…

Numbers are important, but they aren’t ultimate in the church. Today, we discuss why you should be counting and how, but we also discuss how to avoid making numbers your focus.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • There is no reason to have an aversion to numbers as a church leader.
  • Tracking numbers is a stewardship and accountability issue.
  • You need a consistent method for counting worship attendance in your church.
  • The more someone is involved in the ministries of the church, the more they will invest financially in the church.

The seven reasons that we discuss are:

  1. We must overcome our aversions to numbers
  2. Two most common areas to track: worship and groups
  3. Knowledge of attendance leads to better pastoral care
  4. Knowledge of attendance leads to better stewardship
  5. Those who do the counting in worship service usually provide great insights
  6. Attendance is a key indicator of discipleship

McJesus artwork sparks outrage among Israel’s Christians

Hundreds of Christians calling for the removal of the artwork, titled McJesus, protested at the museum in the northern city of Haifa last week.

Israeli police said demonstrators hurled a firebomb at the museum and threw stones that wounded three police officers.

Church representatives brought their complaints to the district court on Monday, demanding a suspension order for the exhibit’s most offensive items, including Barbie doll renditions of Jesus and the Virgin Mary.

Israeli culture minister Miri Regev, who has pushed for legislation mandating “loyalty” in art, has also called for the removal of the offending artwork.

The museum has refused to bow to pressure, saying that doing so would infringe on freedom of expression.

When is the next royal baby due?

Meghan Markle is having twins, or she’s not. Her baby will be named Victoria, or it will be named Diana, or Albert, or Philip. Her sister-in-law is pregnant with her fourth child, or not.

Now we have more “news”: Meghan is due in late April or early May. Or so we’re told.

Expect much fake news about the royal family in the coming months. And about nearly everything else in the news as well.

Unsurprisingly, only 45 percent of Americans say they trust the mass media. Like nearly everything else today, our opinions fall into political categories: 76 percent of Democrats say they trust the media, while only 21 percent of Republicans and 42 percent of Independents agree.

Fake news can be used to inflame or suppress social conflict. It undermines trust in the media and in government. Fake news aimed at senior adults is such a problem that the FBI has created a web page designed to protect seniors against this threat.

In an age that declares all truth to be subjective, we should not be surprised when our “news” is subjective. This is not just a problem for today–it is an issue that affects eternity.

But in the chaos of our times, there’s a path to the unchanging truth we need today.

What ideology caused 100 million deaths in the 20th century?

According to Pew Research Center, 80 percent of Americans believe in God. That’s the good news.

Here’s the bad news: Nearly a third of Americans say the “deity” in which they believe is not the God of the Bible but “some higher power/spiritual force.” Another 10 percent “do not believe in any higher power/spiritual force.” Only 56 percent of us “believe in God as described in the Bible.”

What our children believe about God is obviously crucial to their souls. As a result, I have written an article for our partner ministry, Christian Parenting, where I discuss some ways parents can help their children trust in the God of Scripture. I invite you to read my column and the outstanding…

Court rules Turkey violated freedoms of church group

In 2004, Erkin Altinkaynak and five others were denied the right to legally register their religious organisation, Tükiye Yedincigün Adventisterli Vakfi (Foundation of the Seventh-day Adventists), in Instanbul.

Their request was rejected on the grounds that the objective of the organisation was to meet the religious needs of people embracing the faith of Seventh-day Adventists and this was contrary to provisions of the Turkish Civil Code which prohibits the foundations whose purpose is to support members of a particular community.

This rejection was upheld in a further judgement but in 2011, Mr Altinkaynak asked religious liberty group ADF International for legal support, who then brought it to the European Court of Human Rights, claiming their right to expression, religion and peaceful assembly was being violated.

On Tuesday, this case reached its conclusion and it was decided Turkey had violated the right to freedom of association by denying the church’s recognition.

Robert Clarke, Director of European Advocacy for ADF International, who represented the applicants in the case, said: “In its ruling, the European Court of Human Rights established today, yet again, that everyone has the right to choose their religion and to express it publicly and privately.

“This includes the freedom to do so in community with others. In its judgement today, the Court has clearly…

Joyce Meyer Devotional 15 January 2019 — Friendship Makes Us Bold

Topic: Friendship Makes Us Bold [Joyce Meyer Devotional 15 January 2019]

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. — Hebrews 4:16

When we begin to understand our friendship with God and see ourselves as His friends, our prayers become more Spirit-led, more faith-filled, and much bolder.

Jesus told a story in Luke 11, immediately after He taught His disciples to pray using what we call the “Lord’s Prayer.” We can surmise that He was using the story to illustrate His lesson on prayer.

He said: Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and will say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves [of bread], for a friend of mine who is on a journey has just come, and I have nothing to put before him; and he from within will answer, Do not disturb me; the door is now closed, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and supply you [with anything]? I tell you, although he will not get up and supply him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his shameless persistence and insistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs (Luke 11:5–8 AMPC).

Notice that the man who needs bread gets it only “because of his shameless persistence and insistence.”

We will only “shamelessly persist” with our friends—because friendship makes us bold, and the more we grow and progress in our friendship with God, the bolder and more confident we can be as we approach Him.

Prayer Starter: Lord, Help me to love You and talk to You as a close friend. When I feel like there’s a wall between us, remind me that I can come boldly before your throne of grace and ask for help in my time of need (see Hebrews 4:16). In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
