Open Heaven 9 December 2018 – Divine Priority

Open Heaven 9 December 2018 Sunday Daily Devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Divine Priority

Topic: Divine Priority (Open Heaven 9 December 2018)

Memorise: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”- Matthew 6:33

Read: Philippians 2:5-13 (KJV)

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Bible in One Year: Daniel 4, John 8:48-9:12

Open Heaven 9 December 2018 Sunday MESSAGE:

There is a big disconnect between the priorities many people set for themselves and the priorities the Almighty God has set for their lives. Unless we understand God’s priorities for our lives, we will stumble and stumble in life, and God forbid that we stumble out of His will for us in this world and in the hereafter. Our memory verse clearly tells us that seeking the kingdom of God should be the basis of all our priorities in life. We have God’s promise that when this is the case, all other things will fall in line.

Today’s Bible reading reveals to us how our Lord Jesus Christ prioritized His mission of redeeming mankind through His death, so much so that He was ready to go through humbling and humiliating experiences for the purpose of fulfilling His assignment. Philippians 2:6-8 vividly describes the extent to the sacrifice Jesus made because of the priority He placed on His mission:

“6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

What a great sacrifice! Even when Jesus went to be baptized by John the Baptist, John did not want to baptize Him as he did not count himself worthy of even untying Jesus’ shoe lace, but Jesus insisted on being baptized because of the priority He placed on fulfilling His mission. To Him, His mission was important enough to set aside His status (Matthew 3:13-15). I pray that your mind will indeed reflect the mind of Christ in attitude, motive and priority in Jesus, Name.

If you want God to take pre-eminence in your life, you need to seek His will and do it. Doing the will of God may appear foolish to the world, but unless we are ready to become foolish in the matters of this world, we will not be able to live by divine priority; rather, we will always end up putting the cart before the horse (1 Corinthians 1:18-21). Living according to divine priority entails courage. It took courage for Jesus Christ to face the Cross and die for the sins of mankind. This is why I am puzzled when I see children of God arguing with the word of God when the word is “encroaching” on their so-called right to live as they please. It is unfortunate that in the world today, a preacher becomes unpopular the moment he or she begins to preach against those things that distract from living according to divine priority, but this ought not to be so if we really want to enjoy the fullness of God in our lives. Beloved, seek first God’s interest in all your endeavours, and you will not make mistakes or be disappointed.

Open Heaven 9 December 2018 Sunday Hymn 12: Take My Life, And Let It Be

1.Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise,
Let them flow in endless praise.

2.Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3.Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose,
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Kenneth Copeland Devotional 9 December 2018 – Love – The Secret of Success

Topic – Love: The Secret of Success [Kenneth Copeland Devotional 9 December 2018]

Love never fails. – 1 Corinthians 13:8, The Amplified Bible

Fear of failure. It’s haunted all of us at some time in our lives. Popular psychology tells us to adjust to it. But the Word of God tells us that there is a failure-proof way to live without it. It is the way of love.

If you want to know real success, you must learn to be moved and motivated by love. That’s how Jesus was when He was on the earth.

Even when John the Baptist was senselessly, brutally murdered and Jesus went away to be alone, He didn’t deviate from the way of love. For Matthew 14:6-14 says that even then in that emotionally taxing time when the people followed Him and would give Him no solitude, He was moved with compassion and healed their sick.

I used to wonder how Jesus could just turn away from that terrible crime and not retaliate. What I didn’t realize was that He did retaliate. He overcame the works of Satan with compassion. He defeated hatred with love. He attacked Satan in the spirit realm by destroying his works of sickness and disease.

Compassion doesn’t strike at the surface of things. It goes to the root of the problem. That’s why it always succeeds.

“But wait!” you may say. “I can’t operate like that. I’m not Jesus.”

Yes you can, because the Word of God says that His love has been shed abroad in your heart! (Rom. 5:5). And 1 John 2:5 says His love is perfected in you as you keep His Word.

Commit to living the life of love today. Watch God turn failure into success at home, at work…in any situation. Love never fails!

Scripture Reading: Matthew 14:1-14

Andrew Wommack Devotional 9 December 2018 – The Veil Is Torn

Topic: The Veil Is Torn [Andrew Wommack Devotional 9 December 2018]

Luke 23:45 “And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.”

The veil spoken of here reached from the ceiling to the floor, from wall to wall, and separated the Holy of Holies from the holy place in the temple. Solomon’s temple was 30 cubits high (1 Ki. 6:2), but Herod increased the height to 40 cubits according to the writings of Josephus, a first century historian. Therefore, depending on what standard you use to convert cubits to feet (there is uncertainty as to exactly what a cubit equaled in our feet and inches), this veil was somewhere between 60 feet and 90 feet high.

It is significant that this veil was rent from top to bottom (Mt. 27:51; Mk. 15:38). No man could have torn the veil in this fashion. It was definitely God that rent the veil. The time when this veil was rent corresponds exactly with the moment Jesus died.

Hebrews 9:1-9 tells us that the veil separated the Holy of Holies, where God dwelt, from the rest of the temple, where men dwelt. This signified that man was separated from God by sin (Isa. 59:1-2). Only the high priest was permitted to pass beyond this veil, and only once each year (Ex. 30:10; Heb. 9:7). This symbolized the Christ who would enter into God’s presence for us and make an atonement.

The moment that Christ died, the veil was torn in two, revealing that the sacrifice had been made and that there is no longer any separation between God and man. Jesus tore the veil, that is to say His flesh (Heb. 10:20), in two and opened up a new way unto God through Himself.

Billy Graham Devotional 9 December 2018 – Word Made Flesh

Topic: Word Made Flesh [Billy Graham Devotional 9 December 2018]

The Word was made flesh . . . full of grace and truth. — John 1:14

On the cover of your Bible and my Bible appear the words “Holy Bible.” Do you know why the Bible is called holy? Why should it be called holy when so much lust and hate and greed and war are found in it? It is because the Bible tells the truth. It tells the truth about God, about man, and about the devil. The Bible teaches that we exchange the truth of God for the devil’s lie about sex, for example; and drugs, and alcohol, and religious hypocrisy. Jesus Christ is the ultimate truth. Furthermore, He told the truth. Jesus said that He was the truth, and the truth would make us free.

Prayer for the day: Almighty God, I thank You for the truth which You have given me through Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

Church leaders write prayers and hold vigils ahead of Tuesday’s Brexit vote

The House of Commons is due to vote on Theresa May’s withdrawal agreement on Tuesday. It will be a significant symbol of how much support the Prime Minister has lost among her own party over Brexit and will play a big part in what type of deal the country may try to get next.

Although it may be an indication of how much favour there is towards models that Labour MPs and soft-Brexiteers tend to prefer, it won’t make anything much clearer.

To coincide with the run up to the vote Lichfield Cathedral will host a special time of guided prayer from 1:10–1:30pm on Tuesday and is urging other churches and cathedrals to join them.

The Dean of Lichfield, the Very Revd Adrian Dorber said: “It seems right therefore to invite people to come and pray in the cathedral, to remember the heavy responsibility on our parliamentarians, and to ask God for wisdom and integrity in our national life.”

The Dean of Southwark, the Very Revd Andrew Nunn has written a special prayer for people to use if they wish and the Chair of the Association of English Cathedrals and the Dean of Lichfield, the Very Revd Adrian Dorber, today urged people to remember their cathedrals were always open for prayer or just to take a moment of stillness and quiet reflection.

The Very Reverend Andrew Nunn delivered his prayer on Premier Christian Radio, which you can listen to here at 3:10:

How to Promote Yourself without Feeling Gross — Sam Rainer

If you’re a Christian, especially a Christian leader, this promote-yourself-world presents a problem. Promoting yourself can be self-serving, selfish, and annoying. For those of you who have a measure of humility, the thought of marketing your own stuff can feel egotistical. The narcissists out there don’t help either. When others are recommending you, it’s always a good thing! Of course, there are no guarantees that others will speak for you. How do you maintain balance? How do you promote yourself without feeling gross?

20 Mistakes Pastors Make During Christmas — Facts & Trends

When it comes to leading a church throughout the Christmas season, I suppose I’ve made most of the mistakes one can make. The good news is once in a while I got it right; the blessings were enormous. It’s the mistakes that stand out in memory, however. And, human nature being what it is, the failures of others make great reading and, hopefully, great learning experiences without our own trial and error. So, here are my candidates for the top 20 mistakes we preachers make during the Christmas season…

Why the North American Church is Unlikely to Experience Revival — Chuck Lawless

First, a caveat: I strongly believe that revival is the gift of God, and He grants it sovereignly according to His plan. My point with this post, though, is not that we somehow control God’s event calendar; instead, it’s that our church culture doesn’t…

Govt asks for opinions on safeguarding in settings like Sunday schools

These include uniformed youth organisations such as the Scouts and Guides; open access youth work and religious settings which offer education in their own faith, such as Sunday Schools and those of other faiths and religions.

They are asking for contributions of opinion to try to provide a sector-wide safeguarding framework for all of these settings, saying: “While the majority do so [behave] in a safe environment, there are some settings which do not.”

They say: “We are inviting the views of out-of-school settings providers, staff and volunteers working in out-of-school settings, local authorities, parents, accreditation organisations, young people, schools, charities, and other interested groups and individuals on a draft voluntary safeguarding code of practice for out-of-school settings, and accompanying draft guidance for parents.

“Following the closure of the consultation, we intend to publish the finalised version of the code in due course. The providers’ code would be a voluntary document. It would be intended as a voluntary resource setting out best practice to help providers of out-of-school education settings understand how they can ensure they are delivering education and activities in a safe environment.

The consultation period will end 24th February 2019 and department will publish the results shortly after.

Bake off star supports C of E campaign to reconnect with church

At the age of 17, Martha competed in the popular baking show and reached the quarter finals. She has since released two cookery books and is a food columnist for Waitrose magazine, as well as an ambassador for Christian charity Tearfund.

It’s not her first time teaming up with the Church of England as she previously baked alongside the Archbishop of Canterbury at an event in Birmingham diocese (video below).

This year, she went to Hunsdon JMI School in Hertfordshire to teach children how to bake stained-glass window star biscuits and promote the Church of England’s #FollowTheStar campaign which encourages people to look into their local church again at Christmas time.

Martha said: “Christmas is my favourite time of year to bake, as everyone is in high-spirits and there are plenty of people around to share my creations with!
“Seeing the lights from the tree shining through the stars reminds me of the joy of Christmas and the Magi following the star to the stable to visit Jesus.
“Going to church has always been an important part of my Christmas morning. I love the joyful atmosphere that builds, singing Christmas carols and spending time celebrating and reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas.
“It sets the tone for the rest of the day, focusses my mind and there is plenty of time later in the day for turkey and stuffing!”

The Follow The Star campaign…

Christian singer Lauren Daigle asked about homosexuality

Rising from the Christian charts, Lauren Daigle has received immense growth in publicity due to her album Look Up Child reaching number three in the US Billboard 200 chart and the main single from the album, ‘You Say’, reaching number 44.

In Christian charts, the album reached number one both in America and the UK.

During a ten minute interview on the Dominick Nati Show on iHeart radio, Daigle spoke about her music and her career. Dominick Nati, who is also a Christian, started the interview by saying he had been listening to her for a while as he used to go to Bethel Church.

Eight minutes into the interview, after talking about criticism she’s got for what she wears while singing worship songs, Nati said:

“I hate to do this to you Lauren but I usually ask tough questions so is that alright if I ask just a couple of ones that are tougher and you can let me know if you wanna answer them?

She replied: “Ok, cool.”

“Well, just ‘cos we were talking about Ellen [DeGeneres] …do you feel that homosexuality is a sin?”

After a pause, she responded: “You know I can’t honestly answer on that…I have too many people that I love that, they are homosexual, I don’t know. I actually had a conversation with someone last night about it and I was like ‘I can’t say one way or the other, I’m not God’. So, when people ask questions like that that’s what my go to is. I just say…

Christian Aid say nature is better than ‘sci-fi’ solutions for zero-emissions goal

The call from Christian Aid comes after warnings the world must cut carbon emissions to zero by 2050 to meet goals in the Paris climate deal to curb global warming to 1.5C (2.7F) and avoid the worst impacts of rising temperature.

The UK Government has asked its climate advisory committee for advice on setting a net-zero target for emissions and the European Union has set out plans for “climate neutrality” by 2050.

In a report on net-zero emissions, where any greenhouse gases that are still put into the atmosphere are “offset” by measures such as planting trees or using technology to curb warming, Christian Aid backed natural solutions.

The aid charity said UK efforts to tackle emissions should follow a similar pattern to the waste hierarchy of “reduce, reuse, recycle”.

Firstly, there should be efforts to consume less energy and resources, then more efficiency such as insulating homes or using public transport and finally using more renewables and sustainable materials.

There is a need to minimise emissions from hard-to-tackle sectors such as aviation and meat and dairy production, but there may still be some pollution that will need to be offset through generating negative emissions.

But the report called for solutions which are environmentally and socially sound, including restoring UK habitats and in particular native forests, which would help tackle climate…
