Ivanka Trump donates to church to help migrant children at border

Jack Graham from Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano said US president Donald Trump’s daughter was moved to give $50,000 to the church soon after a tweet Graham posted.

The pastor tweeted: “We @Prestonwood are currently working to provide solutions to care for children during this terrible immigration crisis. Our Espanol ministry let by Gilberto Corredera is stepping up to the challenge to express the love of Jesus. We are broken-hearted and determined to act.”

Graham told an NBC affiliate that he wasn’t “surprised at her generosity”.

The donation came before Mr Trump’s executive order U-turn that ended family separation at the border.

Graham said a group from his church plans to head down to the southern border on Tuesday and is hopeful Ivanka will join them.

“In the midst of all this political division… God’s people can show love and compassion and help, which is what we want to do,” Graham added.

New hope for Christian florist following gay cake ruling

Baronelle Stutzman was sued after she declined an order from a customer she had previously served for ten years,

The US Supreme Court has asked the Washington Supreme Court to reconsider the lawsuit in light of the recent decision given to cake-maker Jack Phillips who won a case in which he was told he was within his rights to refuse to make a cake for a gay wedding.

The country’s top judges ruled 7-2 in his favour.

Stutzman is being represented by religious freedom charity Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).

Addressing the development, ADF senior vice president of US legal division Kristen Waggoner said: “Barronelle, like Jack, serves all customers but declines to create custom art that expresses messages or celebrates events in conflict with her deeply held religious beliefs.

“The Washington attorney general’s efforts to punish her because he dislikes her beliefs about marriage are as impermissible as Colorado’s attempt to punish Jack.

“The US Supreme Court has rightfully asked the Washington Supreme Court to reconsider Barronelle’s case in light of the Masterpiece Cakeshop decision.

“In that ruling, the US Supreme Court denounced government hostility toward the religious beliefs about marriage held by creative professionals like Jack and Barronelle. The state of Washington, acting through its attorney general, has shown similar hostility here.”

Christian Florist Wins at Supreme Court in Gay Wedding Case

Christian Florist Wins at Supreme Court in Gay Wedding Case

The U.S. Supreme Court Monday handed a major religious liberty win to a Washington state Christian florist, vacating a lower court ruling that had required her to design an arrangement for a gay marriage ceremony.

In a one-paragraph unsigned order, the justices said the lower court’s ruling “is vacated, and the case is remanded to the Supreme Court of Washington for further consideration in light of” the court’s Masterpiece decision that sided with a Christian cake designer.

The Washington state Supreme Court now will reconsider the case, which involved a floral artist — Barronelle Stutzman – who had declined to design a floral arrangement for a same-sex couple. The Washington state attorney general sued her and won.

Monday’s order shows the significance of the Masterpiece decision, said Alliance Defending Freedom attorney Kristen Waggoner. In Masterpiece, the justices ruled that the state of Colorado demonstrated hostility toward religion and violated the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty when it ordered baker Jack Phillips to design a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. Waggoner defended both Phillips and Stutzman in court.

“Barronelle, like Jack, serves all customers but declines to create custom art that expresses messages or celebrates events in conflict with her deeply held religious beliefs,” Waggoner said. “The Washington attorney…

Here’s How Jack Graham’s Church Will Use Ivanka Trump’s $50K Donation to Help Immigrant Children

(Photo: Courtesy of Prestonwood Baptist Church)Pastor Jack Graham, senior pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas.

PLANO, Texas — A megachurch that received a $50,000 donation from Ivanka Trump last week has detailed how that money will be used to help migrant children at the southern border.

Jack Graham, pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church and a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, shared with his congregation Sunday morning how the church plans to use the money donated by President Donald Trump’s daughter.

Graham said that the White House senior adviser reached out to the church after she saw one of Graham’s tweets from last week that explained Prestonwood and its Latino ministry were looking for ways to provide solutions for immigrant children.

“I put that [tweet] out there just for no other reason than to pray for our church, if you saw that. But someone in the White House saw that. Her name is Ivanka Trump,” Graham told the…

Venezuelan Army Takes Control of Water Supply, Forcing People to Pay – Urban Christian News

To arrive at the El Paraiso water-filling station in Caracas by sunrise, Rigoberto Sanchez wakes before 4 a.m. Hours later, his tanker is in a slow-moving line with a dozen others. Only two of the 10 pumps work and Sanchez will have time for a couple of deliveries if he’s lucky. If he’s luckier, the military won’t intercept him.

“They hijack our trucks, just like that,” said Sanchez, leaning on a rusty railing. “Once that happens, you’re in their hands, you have to drive the truck wherever they want you to.”’

Venezuela’s military has come to oversee the desperate and lucrative water trade as reservoirs empty, broken pipes flood neighborhoods and overwhelmed personnel walk out. Seven major access points in the capital of 5.5 million people are now run by soldiers or police, who also took total control of all public and private water trucks. Unofficially, soldiers direct where drivers deliver — and make them give away the goods at favored addresses.

President Nicolas Maduro’s autocratic regime has handed lucrative industries to the 160,000-member military as the economic collapse gathers speed, from the mineral-rich region of the Arco Minero del Orinoco to top slots at the state oil producer to increasingly precious control over food and water. Maduro has promoted hundreds of officers since he became president in 2013 — there are some 1,000 active and retired generals, admirals and officers in public office, and military officers hold 9 of 32 cabinet posts.

Last week, the president named Evelyn Vasquez, an official of state utility Hidrocapital, as the head…

Hollywood comes to Lincoln Cathedral

The King is being made by Netflix and is based on William Shakespeare’s Henry the Fourth and Henry the Fifth.

While the cathedral was closed off to the public since around 7am when the film crew arrived, services continued as normal, with visitors using a different entrance.

However, a face many people may have been hoping to catch a glimpse of, wasn’t present.

Richard Main, the owner of Chapterhouse, confirmed on Instagram that Mr Pitt wouldn’t be in the city.

“Henry V’s coronation is being filmed in Lincoln Cathedral this week and the huge lights outside the building shall be shining through these beautiful windows,” he said.

“They have added faux candle stands too for effect. Brad Pitt’s film The King is a Netflix release though he’s not actually in it or in Lincoln… deep sighs abound.”

This isn’t the first time Lincoln has hosted a major Hollywood production.

Tom Hanks visited the city to film part of the 2006 film The Da Vinci Code at Lincoln Cathedral.

Charity flags concerns Christians are prevented from playing in Egypt’s World Cup team

Christian charity Open Doors spoke to people about why they believe Hany Ramzy has been the only ever Christian player in the national team and why there are very few in Egypt’s local teams.

Remon Zakhry plays for a small football club in Assiut, Upper Egypt. He was routinely told that Christians do not play football in Egypt whenever he applied to play in clubs.

Opening up about nearly signing a contract to join Second Division club, El Gouna FC, with coach Ismail Youssef, he explained: “I presented my ID to complete the contract and Youssef saw my name. He was surprised to learn that Remon is my real name and not a nickname. He returned my ID and left the room.

“The contractor attending the meeting told me later that Youssef doesn’t like to work with Christians.”

While Christians make up around ten per cent of Egypt’s population, the number of them competing for Egypt in sporting events is extremely low.

The 2016 Olympic Games which had 122 athletes from Egypt didn’t have a single Coptic Christian compete. Coptic Solidarity filed a complaint with the International Olympic Committee, saying the absence of Christians was the “product of deep-rooted discrimination that exists in the administration of athletics and football in Egypt, and in Egyptian society at large”.

Explaining another reason for the discrimination, Mina Milad – who withheld his real name for…

Sex Abuse Cover Ups Rampant in Hong Kong Churches; Victims Told to Be Obedient, Follow God’s Plan

(Photo: Unsplash/Alexandr Bormotin)Hong Kong rooftops in a photo uploaded December 4, 2017.

The Hong Kong Christian Council, a protestant ecumenical organization, has released a major report exposing a rampant sex abuse problem in local churches, with victims sometimes being told to be obedient and follow “God’s plan” as part of cover-up efforts.

The report, released on Sunday, found that between August 2017 and April 2018 there were 55 reported incidents of sexual harassment or abuse in churches.

One in five of the cases involved rape or attempted rape, according to a translation by South China Morning Post. Other crimes, sometimes allegedly carried out by pastors, involved unwelcome touching, sexual gestures, or emails and messages with sexual implications.

Five in-depth interviews were conducted, with one woman, who wasn’t named, saying that a mentor in the church had attempted to rape her, and continued to sexually harass her afterward.

Some men also said they suffered sexual targeting, including one male who says that he was harassed by a male supervisor at a Christian organization, who offered him massages and wanted him to stay in the same room during a trip.

Jessica Tso Hiu-tung, council assistant executive secretary, explained that many times victims’ stories go…

Seven hurt in car crash outside Dublin church after priest falls ill behind the wheel

Seven people were injured, including two critically, after the vehicle collided with pedestrians. It is understood a priest driving the vehicle lost consciousness at the wheel.

Gardai said the driver of the car fell ill and struck the group at 10.20am on Monday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the Church of Immaculate Conception in Clondalkin, west Dublin, where mourners had gathered for a funeral.

Witness and mourner Larry Noonan said that other people jumped out of the way to avoid the collision.

Niall Carson/PA Wire

Mr Noonan, from Blackrock in south Dublin, said: “There was about 200 people standing around waiting for the hearse to arrive when there was a rumble of noise, it sounded like the church was collapsing, the sound was unbelievable and then we saw people rushing back.

“It was only about 20 feet away from me – it was packed with people – and then we discovered it was a car and people were underneath it. I believe there was about eight people injured.

“Some people were…
