TOPIC: Fishing For Men’s Soul [Sunday, 3rd June 2018]

MEMORY VERSE: “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” – Matthew 4:19 (scroll down for SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Matthew 4:18-25

18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.

INTRODUCTION:

Few are called to be preachers or evangelists but every born again Christian is called to be a fisher of men. Every born again child of God has the opportunity to deal individually and personally with men’s souls. Fishing for a soul is a definite effort to lead a definite person to accept Christ as Saviour and Lord at a definite time. Andrew brought Peter to Christ (John 1:41-42). You too may be the means of bringing a future world preacher to Christ. Why not start today?’

WHY MUST I FISH FOR MEN’S SOULS?
There are several reasons you must be a fisher of men’s souls.
1. Soul is worth more than the whole treasures of this world before God (Mark 8:35-38).
2. The fact of hell. Every unsaved soul will perish forever in hell fire (John 3:18, Revelations 21:8).
3. The suffering of Christ on the cross for each sinner. Believers must fish for men’s souls in order to ensure that Christ did not die in vain (Romans 5:8; 1Peter 3:18).
4. Because the world will pass away and all its pleasures but only those who are in Christ Jesus will abide forever and will inherit all things (1John 2:17; Revelations 21:7).
5. Because there is a great reward for a soul winner (Proverbs 11:30; Daniel 12:3).

WHAT DO I NEED TO BE A FISHER OF MEN?
1. You must be born again and be sure of your salvation. Only the saved can serve (1Peter 1:23).
2. You must be living a pure life. A life surrendered to Jesus Christ and dedicated to Him (1John 3:3).
3. A fisher must be patient, vigilant and hardworking. This is so because the big fish lives in deep waters (1Thessalonians 5:14).
4. You must be prayerful. Prayers remove the obstacles on the path of the fishers and the souls (2Thessalonians 1:11).
5. The one fishing for souls must at least have a fair knowledge of the word of God. You must study the Bible diligently (2Timothy 2:15).
6. The fisher of men needs wisdom to respond to questions agitating the mind of the soul to be won. God gives wisdom liberally (James 1:5).
7. You must be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives power for a successful soul fishing (Acts 1:8; Ephesians 5:18).
8. You must have compassion for lost souls, otherwise, you will work with a dead, mechanical, dispassionate concern. Sinners know those who are truly concerned about them (Matthew 9:36).

CONCLUSION:
Every one that is genuinely saved has been called to serve. To serve in the kingdom of Christ begins with fishing for the souls of men. You must be willing and obedient.

Topic: Right Mindset For Financial Success

If you want to enjoy financial success, you must possess the right mentality. There are so many believers with faulty perspectives to financial success and that has limited them from being successful. They believe that financial prosperity is not meant for all quoting that all fingers are not equal. That is a wrong mindset. God cannot call you and not want you to prosper.

Rom. 8:29-30 -For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Another mindset that some believers have is that because they were born into poor families, they are meant to be poor. That is another wrong perspective. Your background does not determine how far you go in life.

Others think that money is the root of all evil and they see poverty as being synonymous to holiness but that is not true. It is the love of money that is the root of evil not money itself

1Tim 6:10 – For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Another wrong notion about financial prosperity is that no one can prosper without being crooked or a thief but this is wrong too. Some believe that they are poor because they lack the academic qualification but the truth is that there are so many people that didn’t go to school but are rich. Some Christians put their trust in their rich relatives to help them but your help comes only from God. Stop looking unto men for help.

Psalm 121:1-2 – I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

Some believers feel that they are poor because they are from a poor country but that is a big lie. Your country has nothing to do with your wealth.

Acts 10:34-35 – Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

God does not love someone else more than you; once you fear Him and do what He says, you will get the same result. So, your nation does not determine your wealth but your relationship with God.

Remove that negative faulty mentality from your mind. If a man is dominated by the thought of poverty, he will remain poor. Whatever your mind is dominated with is what gives your life direction. So, change your perspective today and begin to enjoy financial prosperity in Jesus name –Amen!

MESSAGE:

One major key to recovery is divine pronouncement, never trivialize God’s Word. Anytime God speaks through His ministers, do not take it for granted. One reason the Word of God fails to accomplish its purpose in our lives or situation is because, we are either too familiar with the Word or the vessel through which the Word came.

God’s Word is powerful. Do you know that the various events taking place in the lives of numerous individuals had earlier been revealed to God’s confidants? A particular brother occupied a very sensitive position in the army, and his bosses hated his guts, so they included his name among those shortlisted for retirement. One day, God clearly told him of his bosses’ plans and assured him that their plans will not come to pass. Eventually, his bosses were retired while he was promoted. It is the Word of God that will come to pass in your life in Jesus’name.

Prayer Point: Father, establish every good pronouncement made on me and my family today.

Topic: God Wants You Healed [TREM Devotional Friday June 1, 2018]

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

The text above tells us the reason why Jesus passed through all that He did; it was for you and I. On His way to the cross, He was beaten, bruised; His entire body was lacerated, so that you and I can live healed. As a child of God, divine health is part of your salvation package, and you are to accept nothing less. Christ paid the price on the cross, so that you can be free from sickness and disease. Throughout the gospels, there were several incidences where Jesus healed people. Acts 10:38 says “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him” (KJV).

Sickness is not of God; it is an oppression of the devil, and Jesus came to set you completely free. Beloved, do not tolerate any work of the adversary; wherever you see it in operation, you must resist it in every area of your life, do not give him any room. The price has been paid, you have a right to be healed and to live in divine health, therefore, do not put up with any sickness or disease; command your body to obey the Word of God. It does not matter what the sickness is called, the Bible says there’s a name above every other name, Jesus the Son of the living God.

Therefore, in the name of Jesus, I command every sickness, disease and infirmity to leave your body right now; from the crown of your head to the soles of your feet, let every part begin to function in the perfection to which God has created it. I declare that you are made whole, in Jesus’ name. You will enjoy divine health, it is your heritage.

Text: Acts 8:1-13 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word” (Acts 8:4).

MESSAGE:

“Do you know grace?” That’s the question the world famous preacher D. L. Moody (1837-1899) was said to have posed to people he came in contact with. If anybody indicated that he or she did not know the person he was talking about or asked, “Grace who?”, Moody would then sit him or her down to explain the meaning of grace, using various Bible references. It was an evangelism and soul-winning strategy that worked effectively for him on many of those who listened to him.

It took the death of Stephen and the persecution of the church to have the apostles and disciples of Jesus go abroad and preach the gospel everywhere. Philip, one of the disciples, escaped to Samaria, a non-Jewish territory and recorded great conversion of souls with miracles, signs and wonders accompanying his ministration.

Evangelism is every believer’s ministry and should not be seen as the exclusive duty of pastors and church leaders alone. Our commitment to it must be total and wholesome. It must be done everywhere, regularly. Our method of evangelism can take many forms, which may involve unconventional methods such as Moody’s, which we know will enable us win souls to the Lord.

Today, many find it difficult to preach the gospel because they are not saved or compromising their Christian stand, discouraged or just negligent. To qualify to preach the gospel, you must first repent of your sins and live the Christian life for all to see Christ through you. To be effective, you must adopt new, improved methods and avoid mannerisms and appearances that can repel the honest seeker of the Word. Avoid being drawn into arguments too. Do not let anything prevent you from preaching the gospel. Begin from your neighbourhood; do it in the bus and at the place of work. Great will be your reward as you win souls for the Lord.

Scripture: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. Hosea 4:6.

Thought For The Day: If you do not like the way you live, change the way you think.

God, in our anchor Scripture, makes it clear that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Knowledge refers to awareness, consciousness or understanding of a thing. This implies, from our Anchor Scripture, that many of God’s children are destroyed for lack of awareness, consciousness or understanding.

Beloved, it is important to know that the destruction of the people of God is not because of the strength or powerfulness of the devil but because of the lack of awareness or understanding of their rights and privileges. God’s people are ruined because they are not aware of who they are or the provision that belongs to them in God.

The lack of awareness of who we are in God is also the reason why life is out of control. The Scripture makes us to understand in Psalms 82:5-7 that all the foundations of the earth are out of course and control because of our lack of awareness.

Furthermore, awareness is a secret of wealth; your possession is a product of your perception; anything that does not cross your mind can never cross your life. Even if it crosses your life by mistake, you cannot retain it because your mind may be too small to handle the breakthrough. For example, if the thought of billions of dollars is not in your mind, you cannot have it in your hands. That is why the Bible says, Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts. Proverbs 4:23 (GNT). For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Proverbs 23:7.

Therefore, it is important to renovate your mentality. To renew and renovate your mind is to be upgraded in life. If you do not like the quality of your life, upgrade your mentality. If you do not like the way you live, change the way you think.

My counsel is, make conscious effort to renovate and upgrade your mentality on a consistent basis. The renovation of mentality is a life-time assignment if life must be upgraded.

Remember this: If you do not like the way you live, change the way you think.

Assignments:
1. Avoid harbouring negative thoughts in your mind.
2. Let the thoughts of what you want and where you want to be in life fill your mind.
3. Renovate your mind always by studying God’s Word.

Prayer: O Lord, I reject every negative and limiting thought in my mind. I ask for the grace to renew my mind by studying Your Word, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

My friend and I sat in the sand, near the ever-rhythmic ocean. As the sun sank in the distance, wave after wave curled, paused and then rippled toward our extended toes, stopping just short each time. “I love the ocean,” she smiled. “It moves so I don’t have to.”

What a thought! So many of us struggle to stop. We do, do, do and go, go, go, somehow afraid that if we cease our efforts we will cease to be. Or that by stopping we will expose ourselves to the ever-present realities we work to keep at bay.

In Psalm 46:8–9, God flexes His omnipotent muscles, putting His power on display. “Come and see what the Lord has done . . . . He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.” God is a busy God, who works to create calm within the chaos of our days.

And then in verse 10 we read, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Of course it’s possible to know God while running here and there. But the psalmist’s invitation to cease striving beckons us into a different kind of knowing. A knowing that we can stop—and still be—because God never stops. A knowing that it is God’s power that gives us ultimate value, protection, and peace.

Prayer: Dear God, help me to find my rest in You.

We rest well when we’re in the loving arms and perfect will of God.

Topic: The Great Escape [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Friday June 1, 2018]

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. – Proverbs 3:5-6

Once you start stepping out in faith and walking in the spirit, the devil will see to it that you have ample opportunity to fall flat on your spiritual face. He’ll try to get you into some jams where there appears to be no way out.

But take it from me as one who’s been there, if you’ll look to God and trust His wisdom instead of your own, He’ll always show you a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). Not only that, but He’ll do it in such a way that He’ll get the glory and you’ll have the last laugh on the devil.

I remember one particular Wednesday night in Wichita Falls, Texas, where I was faced with just such a situation. I was preaching on the reality of the righteousness of God, and the anointing was really strong. Just as my message reached its climactic moment, a woman in the audience suddenly burst forth in tongues. I told her to stop three times, but she only continued to grow louder. By the time she hushed, the anointing had gone and the message was forgotten. So I looked at that woman sternly and began to correct her for being out of order.

Then a man sitting next to her spoke up and said, “Brother Copeland, she is stone deaf. She can’t hear a word you’re saying.”

At that point, I had no idea what to do. Not only had my sermon been shattered, but the whole congregation was mad at me for getting onto that poor deaf woman. (I found out later the man next to her used her to disrupt services and run preachers out of town. When the service reached a high point, he’d punch her and tell her it was her turn to prophesy.)

So, I just stopped a moment and got quiet and waited for the Lord to tell me what to do. Sure enough, He told me. He said, Call her up and lay hands on her and I’ll open her ears.

Talk about a turnaround! When God healed that woman’s ears, He turned that disaster into one of the most powerfully anointed meetings I’d ever had. Everyone was blessed!

Next time the devil tries to back you in a corner, get quiet. Ask God to show you the way of escape. He’ll bring you out in victory every time.

Topic: Alive Unto God [Andrew Wommack Friday June 1, 2018]

Matthew 17:2 “And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.”

Text: Matthew 17:1-8, Mark 9:1-8, Luke 9:28-36

It is interesting to compare Jesus’ transfiguration with that of Moses’. Jesus’ face shone as the sun and His garment was as white as the light. This certainly exceeded what Moses experienced, and yet Jesus’ face did not continue to shine when He came down off of the mountain as Moses’ face did. Moses’ face reflected the glory of God, but Jesus was the glory of God (Jn. 1:14; Heb. 1:3). Moses put a veil over his face to conceal the glory of God (Ex. 34:29-35) so that the people would not be afraid to come near him.

Jesus’ body was His veil that concealed His true glory within. During His transfiguration, He pulled back the veil of His flesh, and we simply caught a glimpse of His glory that he had with the Father before the world was (Jn. 17:5). At Jesus’ death, the veil of His body was “rent in two” giving us direct access to the glory of God (Heb. 10:19-20).

We need to be conformed to the death of Christ. That is, reckoning ourselves dead to sin and all its effects upon us in the same way that Christ is dead to sin and all its effects upon Him. Many people focus on the death to sin and omit, or at least put secondarily, being alive unto God. It is assumed that if we will just die to sin, then life with Christ comes automatically.

That’s no more so than physical death automatically producing physical resurrection. God doesn’t need dead people. He needs people who have risen from the dead spiritually. People who know who they are “In Christ.” The victorious New Testament believer is not just living for the Lord, but the risen Christ is actually living through him. There are over a hundred scriptural references to the indwelling presence of the Lord in the life of a believer. Look into the Word, and see what God has to say about you.

Topic: Where Is Your Hope? [Billy Graham’s Devotional Friday June 1, 2018]

This certain hope of being saved is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls, connecting us with God himself . . . — Hebrews 6:19 (TLB)

What are you placing your hope in for the future? Your country’s government, educational system, some plan or organization? My hope is in a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ, who sits at the right hand of God. I have hope and know that I’m going to heaven. And, right here and now in this present life, I have God’s presence to help me.

Suppose we had no Bible. Suppose there were no cross, no salvation, no empty tomb. Suppose we had nothing to hang on except, “Do your best, try to patch it up, do what you can.” Oh, but we have a hope. There is a plan of redemption, a plan for the future. The New Testament is an exciting Book to read, it is so full of hope and expectancy. And God is interested in you!

Prayer for the day: Reading Your Word, my heavenly Father, makes me realize that the world and all its heartaches are so transitory. Inspire me to reach others with Your message of hope.
