Topic: Winning Your Unbelieving Spouse To Christ (Part 3)

Dear Reader,

Welcome to this week’s teaching on how to win your unbelieving spouse to Christ. In the previous editions, we examined how to use prayers and a life that speaks to help get your unbelieving spouse saved. I see God turning your challenges into cheap miracles, as you put to practice those things that you have learnt in Jesus’ name!

This week, we shall be examining the use of FASTING, in getting your spouse saved. Fasting means doing away with food for the purpose of concentration. It is a way of seeking the face of God, earnestly bringing the flesh under your control, in order to be more sensitive to God. God knew that there would be challenging situations that prove too difficult for us, and that was why He recommended fasting. Mark 9:29 confirms that: This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. Some situations are beyond just merely praying, they have to be accompanied with a fast for us to get our desired result. Set some time apart to fast for the salvation of your loved ones. This must be coupled with prayer and the Word of God. When fasting is void of prayer and the Word of God, then it is hunger strike or mere dieting. Your fasting must also be done in wisdom. It is not how long you fast that matters, but how well and effective your fast is.

I once met an elderly woman who happened to get born again after she was married. Apparently, her husband was deep into the occult. This woman took up the challenge and started praying for her husband, breaking the power of the devil over his life. At a point in time, she started sacrificing her breakfast for her husband’s salvation. According to her, she would prepare her breakfast and give it to the needy. She did this for two years! Meanwhile, she was in a different city from where her husband was. Unknown to her, God sent someone across the man’s path and he gave his life to Christ. By the next time this woman met her husband, he was born again! We serve a God of miracles! Can you imagine her joy that day? But she prayed, practiced patience and fasted about it. Yours will be the next testimony in Jesus’ name!

Fasting has several advantages in helping to get your spouse saved. Fasting is an added plus to prayers. When fasting is done effectively along with prayers using the Word of God, the result is always an immediate success. Some impossible situations recorded in Esther 4:3, Matthew 17:29 and Acts 14:23 in the Bible, talked about a turn-around through fasting and prayers. God’s Word in Isaiah 58:6-7 says: Is not this the fast that I have chosen? To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? When thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thin own flesh? This means that fasting can set lose your spouse from any kind of bondage and break every kind of yoke, when it is done effectively. It is not just abstaining from food or drink, but abstaining with a major purpose of seeking God in prayers via His Word, while maintaining a good Christian life that speaks.

See this sister’s testimony:

“My husband did not attend any programme throughout the Breakthrough Seminar. I did not know what was wrong, but I put it in prayers. When the Bishop asked us to write a list of what we don’t want again, I said my husband must come back and give his life fully to Christ. He used to attend services before, but all of a sudden, he stopped participating in the prayer we hold at home.

I knew I am more than a conqueror. I said, ‘You this devil, you must get out of this home, there is no room for you here’. I believed God to grant all my desire, and the following day, my husband came to church, it was a Sunday. And since then, he’s the one that wakes us all up for prayers! – Okorie, T.

I see God answering your prayers according to the desires of your heart as you simply put the above-mentioned points to work, in Jesus’ name! Don’t give up on your spouse; yours is the next testimony!

However, the first thing to do for your fasting to be effective is to surrender your life to Christ and become a child of God. God will only listen to His children. His children are those that have accepted Him through His son, Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour. If you are not born again and you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, then say this prayer in faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

“To get” means to obtain by struggle and effort, but “to receive” means to simply take in what is being offered. Our relationship with God was never intended to be complicated and based upon our own works. The more we learn how to receive from God by faith, the simpler and more enjoyable our walk with Him becomes.

You can keep your relationship with God simple by receiving His unconditional love and believing His Word no matter what you think or how you feel. You can receive by faith all that He offers, even though you know full well that you don’t deserve it. And you can choose to lean on, trust in, and rely on Him to meet every need you have instead of worrying and trying to figure things out.

And with His help (grace), you can obey Him and grow in spiritual maturity by knowing His will and receiving His best for your life!

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for the incredible privilege of being Your child. Today, by faith, I choose to receive the blessings You have for me—Your love, mercy, forgiveness, strength, wisdom, joy, peace, and every good thing You have in store for my life. Help me to receive from You with simple child-like faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Topic: Separate Yourself Unto God [TREM’s Devotional Tuesday April 24, 2018]

“And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land”. (Exodus 8:25 KJV)

Indeed, God began to show signs and wonders in Egypt because He cannot lie. Whatever He says comes to pass. However, after the plague, Pharaoh made a shocking request: “…sacrifice to your God in the land”. What do you mean Pharaoh? What do you mean sacrifice in the land? What Pharaoh was saying was whatever you want to do for your God, do it whilst remaining in Egypt; there is no need to separate yourself from the rest of us. After all, just as you worship God, we also worship “God”. Beloved, no! If you truly want to serve Christ, you must be willing to go all the way. There is nothing like do it halfway. There is a separation that goes with worshipping God and it must be total and complete. You must separate yourself. Your God is not like their god.

“And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you” (2 Corinthians 6:15-17 KJV).

Did you see that? If there is no difference between you and unbelievers, then something is wrong with your Christianity. I am tired of this kind of Christianity that says, “It does not matter, let us do it anyhow”. No! You are the light of the world. You are the salt of the earth. You belong to God; you don’t belong to the devil. You can’t eat on the table of the Lord and eat on the table of the devil. After you received Christ into your life, a transformation is expected to manifest in your life because every seed produces after its own kind. If truly you have received Christ into your heart, it should affect your lifestyle. There should be the evidence of transformation and not behavioural modification.

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. – 2 Corinthians 3:18

Have you ever thought about the fact that man is the only creature God created who has to wear clothing to cover himself? All the other creatures grow their own coverings. Some grow fur, some feathers, others scales or leathery hide. But all are clothed from the inside out!

Most people don’t realize it, but in the beginning, man was clothed that way too. He was made in the image of God. And, if you’ll look in Ezekiel 8:2, you’ll find that God is clothed in fire from the loins up and from the loins down. That fire is His glory emanating outward from His innermost being.

When man was first created, he was like that too. He was covered with the very glory of God. It radiated from his inner being outward. That’s why he had no sense of nakedness until after he sinned and the glory departed from him.

It was a tragic day when man lost that glorious covering. But I want you to know something today. It’s not lost forever. The Word of God says we can gain it back.

You see, when you put your faith in the blood of Jesus and were born again, the glory of God once again took up residence in you. It may be well-hidden right now, but believe me, it’s in there.

And the Bible says that as you gaze into the Lord’s face by studying the Word and fellowshiping with Him, as you renew your mind to understand who you are in Christ, you’ll be changed into His image on the outside as well. As you learn to hear His voice and obey it, you’ll start giving outward expression of the glory within you. Little by little, you’ll be turned inside out!

Instead of simply staring into your closet every morning, spend some time gazing at Jesus and beholding His Word. Let Him clothe you in His radiant presence. Once His glory starts shining through, anything you wear will look beautiful on you.

Text: Genesis 32:21-32 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me” (Genesis 32:24,26).

MESSAGE:

A time comes in life when all expertise becomes inadequate to deal with confronting challenges. Being at your wit’s end, you are seemingly enveloped in fear. At such a time, it is wise to push aside every man-made strategy and seek God’s face in prayer.

This was what Jacob did. He was now approaching a fearful rendezvous with his estranged twin brother, Esau. True to his old nature, he thought he could bribe his way into his brother’s heart with sets of gifts by three groups of his servants. He typically adopted a carnal strategy to protect his own life and the lives of some of his children that he loved most. Yet as he realised the futility of this strategy, it dawned on him that if he were to avoid disaster from Esau, it would take God’s intervention. At this point, he pushed everything aside, sent his family to a secure location, and decided to spend the night in prayer to God. The Bible account stated that Jacob engaged in wrestling with an angel and would not let go even when he suffered a dislocation in the thigh, until God blessed him.

There is a limit to how far your natural wisdom can carry you. Just when you think you have perfected your plans, then its futility begins to stare you in the face. The fear and confusion that set in at such a time can be mind-numbing. Whatever challenge you may be facing today, seize this moment to take it to the Lord in prayer, and watch Him perform an outstanding miracle in your life.

Thought For The Day: Those who call upon God in the day of trouble will receive His definite deliverance.

Topic: Get Rid Of Fear [Andrew Wommack Tuesday April 24, 2018]

Luke 8:50, “But when Jesus heard it, he answered him saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.”

Text: Matthew 9:23-31; Mark 5:35-43; Luke 8:49-56

Jesus told Jairus to “believe only,” implying that faith and fear can operate in us at the same time. This is also the reason James tells us not to be double-minded, or to waiver (Jas. 1:5-8). Fear will negate faith. We can have both thoughts of faith and thoughts of unbelief at the same time.

Fear and faith are opposing forces. Fear is actually faith in reverse. Fear is believing something or someone other than God. Therefore, fear makes us subject to Satan and his death just as faith makes us recipients of all that God has to offer. This is the reason Jesus told Jairus, “Fear not.” Jairus’ fear would have sealed his daughter’s death.

Instead of trying to build huge amounts of faith to overcome our fears and unbelief, a simpler method is to remove our fears by cutting off their source. Then, our simple “child-like” faith that remains will do the job. It doesn’t take big faith – just pure faith.

Where does fear come from? Second Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and of a sound mind.” It doesn’t come from God. The way that fear is able to come upon us is that we take our attention off of Jesus and put it on our situation.

Fear or doubt cannot “just overcome” us. We have to let it in. In the same way that faith comes by hearing the Word of God, fear comes by hearing or seeing something contrary to God’s Word. We would not be tempted with fear or doubt if we didn’t consider things that Satan uses to minister that fear and doubt.

Satan tries to distract us with thinking about our problems. No problem is too big for God. We should cast our concern about the problem over on God and just keep our eyes on Jesus, the Word.

For personal Christianity, the resurrection is all-important. There is a vital interrelation to the existence of Christianity itself, as well as to the individual believer, in the message of the Gospel. The Swiss theologian, Karl Barth, said, “Do you want to believe in the living Christ? We may believe in Him only if we believe in His corporeal resurrection. This is the content of the New Testament.

We are always free to reject it, but not to modify it, nor to pretend that the New Testament tells something else. We may accept or refuse the message, but we may not change it.” Christianity as a system of truth collapses if the resurrection is rejected. That Jesus rose from the dead is one of the foundation stones of our faith.

Prayer for the day: Lord, let me live today with the constant thought that You are alive!

Scripture: And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. Acts 11:26.

Thought For The Day: You cannot claim to have given your life to Christ and dress like the people of the world.

Sometime ago, I was in Lagos with my wife, Dr (Mrs) Becky Enenche for the 60th birthday celebration of our Mother in the Lord, Pastor (Mrs) Faith Abiola Oyedepo and we met a woman. This woman is a pastor’s wife and when I looked at how she was decently dressed, even without earrings, I asked her if she was a member of one particular denomination, but she said, No. When she told me the name of her church, I could hardly believe it. Then she began to explain that she had two drastic encounters that changed her life.

Prior to this time, she said that she was given to vanity and fashion. She would travel to Dubai to get the latest fashionable wears and make all manner of hairdos and go late to church eventually because of make-ups. Normally, she would begin to prepare her dressing for Sunday service from Thursday.

As she continued in this lifestyle without personal relationship with God, she had an encounter one day. While she was watching Dunamis Television and I was preaching, I said, “What has taken the place of God in your life?” All of a sudden, she was struck by guilt and she knew that it was fashion, gold and vanity that have taken the place of God in her life. Immediately, she disconnected from vain fashion and started dressing decently. People who knew her before were surprised and asked her if she had seen the vision of heaven and hell, and she told them of her encounter with God.

Beloved, you cannot claim to have given your life to Christ and dress like the people of the world. You cannot say Christ owns your life and your look cannot preach the gospel. If Christ really owns you, your look should reflect Christ and your words should match your looks. There are people who dress seductively and proactively claim to be Christians. That is not right.
Remember this: You cannot claim to have given your life to Christ and dress like the people of the world.

Assignments:
1. Do not dress in a way that contradicts who you are in Christ.
2. Decide to dress with dignity, decency and decorum.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the grace to look like You in all areas of my life. Help me Lord not to disgrace You with my appearance, in Jesus’ Name.
