Man Born Without Arms Uses His Story to Glorify God, Declares He’s Now Having the ‘Last Laugh’

(Screen Shot: Vimeo)North Carolina pastor Daniel Ritchie, born without arms, defying all of the odds releases new book, April 11, 2018.

Pastor Daniel Ritchie was born without arms and despite growing up being told he was a “hopeless mistake, woefully insufficient and unable to lead a full life,” he is using his experiences to glorify God.

Ritchie wasn’t raised a Christian. And growing up he was bullied, laughed at, and left out. At birth, doctors asked his parents if they would rather “let him go,” but thankfully they chose life. Now he’s showing the world that God always had a great plan for his life in his new book, My Affliction for His Glory.

The Huntersville, North Carolina, native uses the book to explain how he found “identity, value and purpose” in life after coming to Jesus as a young man who was crippled with depression because of how others treated him and devalued his worth.

“I’ll never amount to anything. I’ll never find someone to spend my life with. I’ll never do anything that matters in the long run,” Ritchie once thought of himself, according to a statement shared with The Christian Post. “Never is a word I’ve heard a lot in my life. Having been born without either of my arms, I spent the first few years of my life being told all the things that I would never be able to do.

“Adversity can lead to doubt at the deepest levels,” he said. “Comparing ourselves to others who (seem or pretend to) have it ‘all together,’ can…

72% of millennials plan to get married

1085 unmarried people between the ages of 18-35 were sampled with only 7% saying they ‘had no intention of ever being married’.

The remainder were asked what would influence their wedding plans.

The Church of England conducted the research and Rev Dr Sandra Millar, The Church of England’s Head of Life Events told Premier:  “People under 35 are still interested in marriage and weddings and also we were interested that people really start thinking about this very early on in their lives.”

Among those who were single, almost six in 10 (59%) said that they would like to marry at some point.

The survey also suggests that millennials attach a special importance to church weddings, with more young people preferring to marry in a church or chapel (47%) than a register office/town hall (34%).

On this, Rev Sandra said: “In England we have a lot of people who are loosely connected [to the church] although not actively Christian and some of those people are the people who might be more encouraged early on that they can get married in church if they ask.”

Those who would consider a church wedding were asked why it appealed to them from a list of options. Almost a third said that it felt like a ‘proper’ wedding (31%). Marrying before God or receiving a blessing, was the seventh most chosen option.

Millennials were also strongly drawn to…

PC-turned priest facing disciplinary over musician’s death wins ruling over resignation bid

Andrew Birks, who was ordained a Church of England priest last year, was one of five officers investigated after 40-year-old Sean Rigg collapsed and died at Brixton police station in August 2008.

Suspended from the Metropolitan Police force and wanting to become a full-time priest, Mr Birks handed in his resignation.

But it was blocked by an assistant commissioner in July last year on the grounds that resigning would allow him to avoid any potential disciplinary proceedings.

Overturning that decision on Friday, Mr Justice Garnham said it “cannot stand” because the assistant commissioner did not take into account the lengthy delay in deciding whether Mr Birks should face any charges.

However, Mr Birks will still have to wait to find out if he will be allowed to resign, as the judge ordered that the decision should be taken afresh in light of his ruling.

Sean Rigg who died in custody in 2008, as Andrew Birks, one of five officers that have been investigated over the death of Rigg has claimed that his prolonged suspension is unlawful.

Mr Rigg (pictured above), who had paranoid schizophrenia, was arrested in Balham and taken to the station in a police van driven by Mr Birks.

At an inquest in 2012 jurors found the primary cause of Mr Rigg’s death was cardiac arrest and were critical of the way he was restrained by police.

Mr Birks was suspended with…

Do you have paraskevidekatriaphobia? – Denison Forum

Welcome to the first Friday the 13th this year. (You can look forward to another one in July.) If you’re afraid of today, you might have “paraskevidekatriaphobia” (from the Greek words for “Friday” and “thirteen”).

If so, you’re not alone.

The Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute estimates that seventeen to twenty-one million people in the US are afraid of this day. Some avoid doing business, taking flights, or even getting out of bed. As much as $900 million is lost in productivity as a result.

Here’s the good news: studies seem to indicate that fewer calamities occur on this day, perhaps because people are more careful or choose to stay home.

“Unease and fears of misfortune”

I can see why people would feel afraid today.

France’s President Emmanuel Macron says he has “proof” that the Syrian government used chemical weapons to attack the town of Douma last weekend. According to today’s BBC News, Russia is warning the US that retaliatory air strikes in Syria could spark a war between the two countries.

Today’s Wall Street Journal reports that the White House plans to escalate trade pressure against China. In response, the Chinese are aligning countries against the US, especially in Europe.

Meanwhile, according to a survey released yesterday for Holocaust Remembrance Day, 70 percent of Americans say fewer people seem to care about the Holocaust than in the past. Fifty-eight percent believe something like the Holocaust could happen again. That’s cause for grave concern.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 19.1 percent of US adults had an anxiety disorder in the past year. That equates to twenty-four million people. Many of these disorders relate to fears about the future.

As you begin what National Geographic calls “the dreaded day [that] continues to inspire unease and fears of misfortune,” let’s consider a biblical response to fear of the future. The answer may surprise you.

The best…

Author of The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven sues Christian publishers

Alex Malarkey is filing a lawsuit, claiming Tyndale House made “millions of dollars” while giving him, “a paralysed young man, nothing”.

The 20-year-old is taking legal action against the firm on several grounds, including financial exploitation of a person with a disability and appropriation of name.

Mr Malarkey almost died during a car crash in Ohio when he was six-years-old which left him paralysed from the neck down, and in a coma for two months.

He and his father, Kevin, co-authored a The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven together in 2010, claiming that Alex had died, experienced numerous heavenly encounters and been resurrected.

At the age of 16, Mr Malarkley revealed he had lied about the supposed experiences, prompting Tyndale House to withdraw the book.

Tyndale Momentum

In a lawsuit filed earlier this week and seen by the Washington Post, Mr Malarkey claimed he is “on the verge of being homeless”, surviving on welfare payments and support from his mother.

He is seeking remedies including damages at least equal to profits from sales of the book, which reportedly sold more than one million copies.

Tyndale House was quoted by the Guardian as saying it was a “terribly unfortunate situation which deeply saddens all of us at Tyndale”.

The publishers added: “Despite the claims in Alex Malarkey’s lawsuit, Tyndale House paid all royalties…

‘Substantial’ compensation urged for Sir Cliff Richard over BBC raid coverage

The 77-year-old singer has sued the BBC over coverage of the raid – which followed a sex assault allegation.

Sir Cliff, who denied the allegation and was not charged with any offence, says he suffered “profound and long-lasting damage” as a result of coverage.

BBC editors have said they will “defend ourselves vigorously”.

Mr Justice Mann on Thursday began overseeing a trial, expected to last 10 days, at the High Court in London.

A barrister leading Sir Cliff’s legal team told Mr Justice Mann that BBC coverage of the search at the singer’s apartment in Sunningdale, Berkshire, in August 2014 was a “very serious invasion” of privacy.

Justin Rushbrooke QC told how coverage had a “prolonged impact” on Sir Cliff.

Yui Mok/PA Wire

He did not give any indication of the amount Sir Cliff wanted.

But Mr Justice Mann heard that the singer had already agreed to accept a £400,000 payment from the force which carried out the search.

Sir Cliff, who was abroad when the raid took place, had initially sued the BBC and South Yorkshire Police.

Mr Justice Mann was told in May 2017 how that dispute had been settled after the force agreed to pay the singer “substantial” damages.

The judge has now been given the figure by lawyers representing the force at the trial.

Yui Mok/PA Wire

They explained in a written statement given to the…

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 13 April 2018 Devotional — Don’t Quit!

Topic: Don’t Quit! [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Friday April 13, 2018]

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of a sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control]. — 2 Timothy 1:7

“I’ve been a Christian for twenty-three years,” Cheryl said. “I’m just not getting anywhere. I’m as weak as I was when I first accepted Christ as my Savior. I still fail. I just don’t know if it’s worth it.”

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she continued to talk about her failures. “By now I know all the right things to do, but I don’t do them. Sometimes I deliberately do something mean-spirited or unkind. What kind of Christian am I?”

“Probably a growing Christian,” I said.

A startled look appeared on Cheryl’s face. “Growing? Did you hear—?”

“Yes, I heard. But if you weren’t growing, you wouldn’t lament your failures. You’d be satisfied about your spiritual level or tell yourself how good you are.”

“But I’m so discouraged, and I fail God so many times.”

I went on to tell Cheryl she was correct—that she had failed. All of us do at times. None of us is perfect. If we’re not careful, we allow Satan to point to what we haven’t accomplished and where we have been weak. When that happens, it’s easy to feel bad or want to give up.

That’s not the way of the Spirit. No matter how we mess up our lives, God doesn’t give up on us. The Spirit constantly nudges us.

We can allow our thoughts to dwell on what we haven’t done, why we ought to be more spiritual, or how spiritual we ought to be after all these years in our Christian faith. That’s a trick of the enemy—to make us think of our defects and shortcomings. If we focus on what we’re not or what we haven’t accomplished, we are allowing Satan to make advances on the battlefield of our minds.

The fact that my troubled friend was upset was a healthy sign, even though she didn’t see it that way. With the Holy Spirit’s help, she can push back the enemy. She can regain the territory Satan has stolen from her.

Cheryl seemed to think that holy, victorious living came from one major victory after another. Yes, we do have times when we have great breakthroughs; however, most of our victories come slowly. They come little by little. It’s as if we inch forward.

Because we move slowly in our spiritual growth, we are often unaware of how far we have moved. If the enemy can make us think that we must have one decisive spiritual victory after another or we’re losers, he has gained an important stronghold.

My advice to Cheryl, and to all Christians who face those dark moments, is to listen to the words of the apostle Paul. He exhorted us not to grow weary, or as another translation says it, “not to lose heart.” He’s saying, “Don’t quit. Keep fighting.”

Life is a struggle, and Satan is determined to defeat and destroy us. We don’t ever reach the place where we never have to fight. But it’s not just our fight. Jesus is not only with us, but He is for us. He’s at our side to strengthen us and to urge us onward.

My friend kept remembering the times she had failed, but I reminded her of the times she had succeeded. “You think the enemy is in control, but that’s not true. You have failed, but you have also succeeded. You have stood your ground and you have made progress.”

“Don’t quit. Don’t give up.” That’s the message we need to hear. I think of the words of Isaiah: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you…; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you” (Isaiah 43:1b–2).

This is God’s promise. He doesn’t promise to take us completely out of troubles or hardships, but He does promise to be with us as we go through them. “Fear not,” He says. That’s the message we need to ponder. We don’t need to fear because God is with us. And when God is with us, what is there to worry about?

Prayer Starter: God, despite my failures, I know You are with me, encouraging me to never give up. Please help me to focus on how far I have come and strengthen me to keep moving forward and make progress, even in the tough times. Thank you for never giving up on me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional Friday, 13 April 2018 – The Geography Of Destiny Seed

TOPIC: The Geography Of Destiny Seed (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Friday, 13 April 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 13:3-8

MEMORY VERSE:

“And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.” – Matthew 2:13

The MESSAGE:

Your destiny is the reason you were born. It is what is recorded in the book of heaven for you. The greatest enemy is that one that does not want you to fulfil your destiny. Destiny is like a seed. It does not thrive on every soil. If Esther was in another country, there would have been no story to tell about her. Jesus told His disciples to tarry in Jerusalem. God is everywhere but does not do certain things in certain locations. He told Abraham to get out of his father’s house. There is a connection between destiny and location. Several seeds from the same pack fell on different soil. The location each seed fell determined whether it survived or died.

The seeds that fell along the way were crushed by feet and eaten up by birds. This location represents the place of destiny crushers and destiny eaters. In this location, destiny appear and disappear. The birds of the air represents the activities of witchcraft. The birds converted the destiny food and ate them. The second location, the seed managed to germinate but could not endure the scorching of the sun and had no root. This location is symbolic of a place of constant bombardment by the devil. The location did not kill the destiny immediately, but as soon as it shows up, it dies because of the troubles of life. Joseph was warned by an angel to take Jesus out of Israel to Egypt because the king Herod sought to kill Him as a young child. The third location is a place where the destiny will grow but will not be allowed to bear fruits. Trials and persecutions will not kill this destiny but the pleasure of life. The fourth location is the place of destiny fulfilment. *I pray for you that you will locate your place of destiny fulfilment, in Jesus’ name.* All fishes are fishes but not all fishes survive in the same water. If your divine location to fulfil destiny is here in Nigeria and you go elsewhere, you may have to come back to fulfil your destiny. Ask yourself this morning if you are in the right location where your destiny can flourish.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Until you are divinely located, your divine allocation will not locate you.

PROPHETIC WORD:
You will fulfill destiny.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. My Father, thank You for revealing the seed of divine location to me, in the name of Jesus.
2. My Father, if I have been wrongly located, please relocate me, in the name of Jesus.
3. Powers assigned against my destiny fulfilment, die, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Thank You Holy Spirit for this great revelation of the geography of destiny location, in the name of Jesus.
5. The sun will not smite me by day nor the moon by night, in the name of Jesus.
6. Evil destiny birds, my life is not your candidate, die, in the name of Jesus.
7. My destiny, arise and shine, in Jesus’ name.

RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual April 15th, 2018 Lesson 33 — Conflict Management In The Family

TOPIC: Conflict Management In The Family [Sunday, 15th April 2018]

MEMORY VERSE: ‘’Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men” – Romans 12:17 (scroll down for SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 13:7-9

7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.

8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.

9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

INTRODUCTION:
A family is defined as a group of people related by blood, marriage, law (e.g adoption) or custom. Generally, conflict can be defined as strong disagreement between people, groups, etc, that results in often angry argument. Conflict management is the practice of being able to identify and handle conflicts sensibly, fairly and efficiently. Conflict is inevitable. No relationship is perfect or conflict free, but conflict when managed biblically can serve as a catalyst for change and opportunity for a good family growth.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. Conflict in the family and its causes
2. Biblical ways of managing conflicts within the family.

CONFLICT IN THE FAMILY AND ITS CAUSES
Conflict in the family may arise from misunderstandings among members of the family that is parent-children, spouse-in-law, etc. Contradictory interest among members of the family can also be another factor. Other causes of conflict in the family may include:
1. Incompatibility (Amos 3:3)
2. Unresolved disagreement (Ephesians 4:26-27)
3. Lack of trust (Proverbs 31:11)
4. Unforgiveness (2Corinthians 2:10-11).
5. Communication gap (Hebrews 13:16)
6. Unfaithfulness (Genesis 39:7-12).
7. Financial challenges (1 Timothy 6:8-10)
8. Lack of genuine love (Colossians 3:19; 1Peter 1:22).

BIBLICAL WAYS OF MANAGING CONFLICTS WITHIN THE FAMILY
1. Examine yourselves (Psalm 26:2; 2 Corinthians 13:5).
2. Love God and put Him at the centre of your family (Deuteronomy 6:4-5).
3. Forgive one another (Luke 17:3; Ephesians 4:26).
4. Communication effectively and resolve all conflicts as fast as possible (Romans 12:17-18).
5. Maintain openness and sincerity with one another (Genesis 2:25).
6. Live a life of humility (Proverbs 29:23; Jeremiah 13:18).
7. Love one another (1Peter 1:22).
8. Revenge not yourself for wrongs done against you (Romans 12:19).
9. Commit your ways to the Lord (Psalm 37:5).
10. Take every matter to God in prayers (James 5:16).

CONCLUSION:
Conflict is inevitable in the family. However, every conflict should be resolved in the fear and love of God.

QUESTIONS:
1. Mention 5 causes of conflicts in the family?
2. What are the biblical ways of managing conflicts within the family?
