Theologian and author John Piper is blaming what he calls the 50 years of the “egalitarian myth” that men and women are basically the same for the rampant sex abuse now coming to light.
In a Friday edition of “Ask Pastor John” on the Desiring God podcast the former pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church and Reformed scholar commented on the series of high-profile sexual misconduct cases that have emerged in the past several months in many realms of society.
“[E]galitarian assumptions in our culture, and to a huge degree in the Church, have muted — silenced, nullified — one of the means that God has designed for the protection and the flourishing of women,” Piper said.
“It has silenced the idea that men as men — by virtue of their created, God-given maleness, apart from any practical competencies that they have or don’t have — have special responsibilities to care for and protect and honor women. This call is different from the care and protection and honor that women owe men.”

Craig Johnson, the director of ministries at Pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, clearly remembers the day his 5-year-old son, Connor, spoke for the first time in three years.
“My wife came called me from upstairs, sobbing, and said, ‘Craig, get up here! I was just reading the Bible and praying with Connor, and he started speaking,'” he told The Christian Post. “I looked at her and said, ‘What do you mean? Our son hasn’t talked in years.’ She said, ‘Just come listen.'”
Leaning over Connor’s crib with tears running down their cheeks, Johnson and his wife waited for their son, who had been diagnosed with Autism several years earlier, to speak.
What happened next was nothing short of miraculous.

Safe Families for Children, which aims to prevent children from needlessly having to go into the care system, has been working in England since 2013.
Keith Danby, chief executive of the charity said in a statement: “The increase in children becoming ‘looked after’ is recognised as a growing crisis by many in the care sector. It’s generally agreed that some urgent action must be taken.
“We believe that volunteer support from the community can go a long way to stabilising family situations in times of acute stress or dysfunction. We’ve seen so many families benefit from having community support and respite when they are at their wits end.”
Government statistics reveal that as of March 2017, over 25 per cent of children in need were assessed as being in a family in acute stress or dysfunction.
The charity recruits and trains volunteers who support children and their parents/carers.
Rev Amanda Digman of The Churches of St John the Baptist, Carlton and Colwick said: “We decided to get involved with Safe Families because we live in an area where there are people with needs. It’s difficult to know how to access those who need the help and Safe Families helps us find them.
