Veteran Team USA Hockey Player Gigi Marvin Wants Gold and God


Gearing up with pads and helmets at both the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics, Team USA hockey player Gigi Marvin girded herself with her favorite Bible verse, too.


“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding,” Proverbs 3 reads. “(I)n all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”


With two Olympic silver medals, Marvin hopes her pucks will go straight, too — straight into the goal for a team gold medal.


Marvin, who is 30, remembers watching the USA women’s ice hockey team at the 1998 Nagano Olympics and dreaming about making the team.


“My parents also helped me understand at a young age that God had given me this amazing talent to play hockey,” she told FCA magazine, published by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. “It was so natural for me, and it was evident it was a gift from Him.”


Marvin played hockey for the University of Minnesota and went to both the 2010 Vancouver and 2014 Sochi games, where the Team USA women took hockey silvers. She plays forward for the team in Pyeongchang.

Two separate studies have revealed that not everything about a person dies even is he is already declared clinically dead.

A team of scientists examined 36 different types of tissue from 540 corpses, and it was revealed that the RNA continues to transcribe the DNA’s instructions even after a person has been declared dead. According to lead researcher Roderic Guigó, they discovered that some genes are activated upon death, and it can simply mean that there is still a certain level of activity as far as RNA transcription is concerned.

Despite the discovery, though, science still cannot offer a concrete explanation, and the results of the research can only be based on guesses.

“I would guess that one of the major changes is due to the cessation of flow of blood, therefore I would say probably the main environmental change is hypoxia, the lack of oxygen, but I don’t have the proof for this,”Guigó said.

Apart from discovery of Guigó’s team, a separate study has also revealed that a person’s brain cells may continue to function even days after a person has died. While this is not to be interpreted that a person is still alive or his brain is still functional, the results of the study challenge the common notion that everything about a person dies along with the death of his body.

    GOP Presents 4 Immigration Proposals for Senate to Vote On


    Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has asked the Senate to consider voting on four immigration proposals.


    According to the Washington Examiner, none of the proposals are guaranteed to win the 60 votes needed to pass in the Senate.


    McConnell ended debate on the four proposals this week and that means the Senate can finally vote.


    In one proposal, from Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the amendment would fund a border wall and protect Dreamers. It would end chain migration and cut the Diversity Immigrant Visa program, which is a lottery system for receiving a U.S. resident card.


    Grassley’s proposal is preferred by the Trump administration, according to the Examiner.


    The second proposal, from Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., requires state and federal jurisdictions to comply with federal immigration laws. This amendment would eliminate sanctuary cities.


    The third amendment, from Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, would protect Dreamers, but it would not cut visa lottery and chain migration.


    The final proposal, from Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Chris Coons, D-Del., would help Dreamers but also earmarks less money for border security.


    Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Wednesdaythat the Senate is “closer than we have ever been” to passing a bill to help Dreamers.

    A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Canning Town, east London on Wednesday evening.

    Police believe he may have been the victim of what they’re describing as a ‘sustained and possibly targeted attack’.

      

    He’s the third teenager to die as a result of knife crime in the capital so far in 2018.

    Michael Smith, CEO of the Christian group Word 4 Weapons tells Premier youngsters need scripture to stay on the straight and narrow.

    “Whether the school likes it or not, I quote the Bible. I tell [students] what it says Jesus says,” he said.

    “We make it absolutely clear that in Matthew 26 verse 52, the Lord said to Peter ‘put up your knife in this place because he who lives by the sword, dies by the sword’.”

    In 2017, there were 80 fatal stabbings in London.

    The latest killing comes as both the Mayor of London and Scotland Yard face mounting pressure to bring the city’s knife crime problem under control.

    Theresa May drew an angry response from Sadiq Khan earlier this month when she suggested that the surge in deaths came after Labour took charge of the capital.

    Mr Khan, who succeeded Conservative Boris Johnson to the role, wrote on Twitter: “The PM simply can’t be allowed to get away with misleading information.

    “Knife crime is rising across Britain – not just London – & started going up well before May 2016. 8 years of Tory cuts to police & preventative services must urgently be reversed.”

    Former megachurch pastor Perry Noble said 47 people received Jesus Christ during his last Second Chance Church service this past Sunday, despite what he admitted was his “stupidity” and struggles.

    Noble, who has been preaching sermons to an online audience and friends and family at home in Anderson, South Carolina, said in a Facebook video on Sunday that he is “in awe of what God did at Second Chance Church today.”

    He explained that the broadcast had some issues as he messed up with the camera angle settings, but that did not stop people from reaching out to God.

    As London Fashion Week approaches, statistics suggest the average man spends £115 a month on clothes and the average woman £81. 

    The average UK adult spends over £1000 a year on clothes. 

    Speaking on whether Christians should follow fashion, Simon Ward, who is a Christian and ran London Fashion Week for 30 years, told Premier: “I normally just give a quick guided tour of the Bible and say ‘look, in the beginning God created seasons’ – so don’t argue about the seasons.”

    “He created infinite variety – He was the first fashion designer, He ran up leather togs for Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and so on. It goes all the way through the Bible, the sort of imagery of fashion. The first Christian in Europe was Lydia who was in the fashion industry in Phillippi so I think the idea that God and the fashion industry have nothing to do with each other ain’t right.”

    But Simon Ward added that it can’t be allowed to take over: “Clearly if you’re spending the food budget just so you can get the latest pair of jeans that’s not good stewardship of your resources.”
