Tunisia nearing spiritual tipping point says pastor in beach massacre city

Raphaël Stice said acts of terrorism linked to radical Islam and disillusionment following political upheaval in 2011 have left young Tunisians remarkably open to learning about Jesus Christ.

The leader of the Sousse Christian Church spoke with Premier as two British package holiday operators announced they were resuming flights to the North African nation for the first time since the massacre in Sousse.

He said: “I have found Tunisians to often be very open to talking about faith matters and I would love for many British tourists to come here and gain a prayer burden for this country, because we want to see God be some great things among the people here.”

Thirty British people were among the victims when Seifeddine Rezgui stormed a beach popular with tourists in Sousse in June 2015 and began firing shots from an AK-47 assault rifle.

Mr Stice, who has lived in Sousse for 18 months, said Tunisia is not only a much safer country today but it is also on the cusp of a “huge wave” in church growth.

The pastor said he was praying for an “explosion” in the number of new Christians, similar to neighbouring Algeria – but he warned stigmatism from older generations remained a factor in stopping young Tunisians publicly professing their faith.

Trump Administration Says it Will No Longer Investigate Complaints from Transgender Students

Trump Administration Says it Will No Longer Investigate Complaints from Transgender Students

The US Department of Education has announced that they will not be investigating complaints brought by transgender students who claim they were not allowed to use the bathroom of their choice in public schools.

Department of Education spokeswoman Liz Hill outlined the new policy and said it will specifically apply to transgender students who complain about bathroom laws, although other transgender complaints may still be reviewed, reports TheHill.com.

“Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, not gender identity,” said Hill.

Sarah Warbelow, the Legal Director of the Human Rights Campaign, condemned the new policy:

“The department’s failure to act conflicts with the law in multiple jurisdictions, including federal circuits, and further emboldens those who seek to discriminate against transgender students. Once again, Secretary DeVos proves she is not interested in protecting transgender students and instead is choosing to advance the dangerous Trump-Pence anti-LGBTQ agenda.”

The Trump administration has changed other transgender policies as well. They previously announced an end to the Obama administration’s guidance which stated that public school transgender students could use the bathroom that corresponded to their gender identity.

The administration also attempted to prevent transgender individuals from serving…

International Mission Board President David Platt Announces Resignation

International Mission Board President David Platt Announces Resignation

International Mission Board President David Platt said he would be stepping down from his post at the mission agency.

Platt asked the IMB trustees to start looking for a successor.

The search for a new president will start immediately but Platt will stay on as president until the new leader is in place.

A presidential search committee will be made up of IMB trustees selected by trustee chairman Dr. Rick Dunbar, a member of First Baptist Church Madison, Mississippi.

“I am more passionate today than I have ever been about getting the gospel to the nations, and I want to spend what little time I have left on this earth with urgency toward that end,” he said in his announcement. “This passion is what drove me to become IMB president, and I have sought to honor Him and you in this role over the last four years.”

Platt said he loves the IMB community and will always be willing to help the mission agency.

“I love this IMB family, and I want to encourage you continually with God’s Word, I want to mobilize limitless missionaries to join you, and I want to work with you overseas in any ways I can help you,” he said. “In short, I want to do anything I can to see missions succeed across and beyond the IMB and the SBC for the glory of God.”

“I have come to the realization that it is not viable long-term for me to lead as president of the IMB while…

David Platt to Step Down as Southern Baptist International Mission Board President

(Photo: Courtesy of Bill Bangham)David Platt, president of the International Mission Board, closes the Pastors’ Conference on June 15, 2015, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio, with a sermon on Revelation 1.

President of the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board, David Platt, announced Monday that he intends to step down from the role as soon as the trustees of the organization find someone to replace him.

The announcement comes just four months after IMB trustees gave him permission to test a new role as teaching pastor at McLean Bible Church in Virginia while leading the organization. The trustees were expected to review the arrangement to determine if it was viable this month.

Platt explained in an announcement to IMB staff that after discussions with trustees in recent weeks, he made the decision that the arrangement wasn’t viable.

“I have come to the realization that it is not viable long-term for me to lead as president of the IMB while serving as teaching pastor in a church,” Platt said in his statement. “This realization has been sobering, for I don’t believe I can choose between preaching and leading in the local church, and mobilizing and shepherding people in global missions. Therefore, I have come to the…

Vicar flushed with complaints over toilet plan

The proposed unisex toilets could become part of a refurbishment of St Mary the Virgin in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, which some church members deem as following a “current fad”.

Pauline Jones opposes the plan and told The Telegraph: “Some people believe that it is the thing to do without giving it any serious thought. When there is a reasonable alternative, why have anything as undignified as a lavatory in a church?”

Currently those needing a lavatory break are forced to travel 30 metres to a nearby building.

Alicia Collinson, deputy chancellor of the diocese of Gloucester highlighted in a Church of England Consistory Court judgement that the toilets are not accessible to disabled people.

However, in a letter opposing the idea, church member Brian Jones told the court: “There is no compelling need to have them in the church since there are already two in the Parish Room which is no more than thirty yards from the North Door.

“Lavatories in a church is a current fad, but I see no reason why we should blindly follow it. The expense is quite unjustified.”

The letter also points out a list of objections to the toilet plan including noise disturbance and distraction during services, smells, as well as the concern that “toilets attract children”.

Pat Robertson Returns to TV 10 Days After Stroke, Reflects on ‘Miraculous Healing’

(Screenshot: CBN)CBN founder Pat Robertson appears on the “700 Club” just ten days after suffering a stroke.

Ten days after suffering a stroke, televangelist Pat Robertson returned to TV and thanked God for turning what could have been a “crippling illness” into a “miraculous healing.”

On Monday, Robertson, the 87-year-old founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network, appeared on “The 700 Club” for the first time since suffering an embolic stroke on Feb. 2.

“I’m back,” he said. “I’m back on television!”

Robertson revealed that his daughter-in-law noticed he was having trouble speaking and keeping his balance and alerted medical professionals.

“You know, I had a stroke and I wasn’t even aware of it,” he said.

After being transferred to the hospital, the televangelist immediately received a clot-busting medication, called tissue plasminogen activator. According to CBN, within minutes of receiving tPA, Robertson was awake and responsive and able to move all of his limbs.

“It was a miracle,” he said. “It was amazing … For every minute that you have a stroke without being treated, you lose two million cells in your brain. So mine was just starting … it’s terrible.”
