After the release of the iOS 11 was plagued by performance issues, it was revealed that Apple is looking to make reliability the primary focus of the iOS 12. Now, the Cupertino giant is also looking to integrate Animoji in FaceTime as well as deeper Siri integration.
According to Bloomberg, Apple will be bringing its Animoji characters to FaceTime allowing iOS users to put virtual emoji over their faces similar to the filters found in Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram. This is just one of the many features set to arrive on the company’s new iOS release codenamed “Peace.”
Other features include deeper Siri integration with in the iPhone’s search view, Do Not Disturb improvements that will give users more options to automatically reject phone calls or silence notifications, version of its Stocks app, and a multiplayer mode for augmented reality games.
iOS 12 will also reportedly include universal apps that work across iPhones, iPads, and Macs, similar to what Microsoft did with Windows Universal Apps. While the mechanics are still to be announced, developers will be able to design a single third-party app that works using a touchscreen, a mouse, or a trackpad, depending on whether it’s running on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
It is currently unknown if Apple will release a new SDK with new APIs to provide the required infrastructure for cross platform play. Right now the UIKit and AppKit softwares provide required infrastructure for iOS and macOS app user…

Responding to claims that some of the charity’s workers hired prostitutes during a mission to the Caribbean country in 2011, Lord Leslie Griffiths said he repeatedly came across similar accusations during his 40 years’ experience in humanitarian work.
The House of Lords member – and Baptist minister – said: “I’m very, very angry and I just hope that the situation now unfolding would lead to a proper investigation, more transparency and a greater sense of moral leadership.”
“I think it’s the tip of the iceberg; I’ve been aware of such incidents for the 40 and more years that I’ve been working in these sorts of areas…”
Meanwhile, International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt said on Tuesday that a decision on whether to withdraw public funding from Oxfam over the aid worker sex scandal will not be taken “hastily”.
The charity has issued an “unreserved apology” to the Government, donors, supporters and the people of Haiti over its handling of the allegations.
Ms Mordaunt said she would take the issue “very seriously” but stressed she would be guided by a Charity Commission inquiry into Oxfam while deciding whether to pull funding.
The charity received £31.7 million from the Government in 2016/17, but the support has been put at risk by the scandal, which led to the resignation of its deputy chief executive Penny Lawrence.

In happier news, the most popular class at Yale University may surprise you. The course is titled “Psychology and the Good Life.” About 1,200 students, one-fourth of Yale undergraduates, enrolled in the course.
Their interest is understandable: a 2013 report by the Yale College Council found that more than half of undergraduates sought mental health care from the university during their time on campus. A freshman agreed: “In reality, a lot of us are anxious, stressed, unhappy, numb.”

Scientists have invented a so-called electronic skin that can heal itself and allow amputees to feel touch and temperature on their prosthetic limbs.
According to Science Advances, scientists from University of Colorado Boulder created the electronic skin, or e-skin, a thin semi-transparent thermoset-based material that acts like a real skin that can sense temperature, pressuse, humidity and air flow.
The research should help advance the prosthetics industry. “By doping the dynamic covalent thermoset with conductive silver nanoparticles, we demonstrate a robust, yet rehealable, fully recyclable and malleable e-skin,” the abstract said.
The e-skin could be recycled at room temperature, a rare feat for e-skins. After rehealing and recycling, the e-skin should be able to regain its original mechanical and electrical properties.
Because it is malleable, the e-skin efficiently conforms to “complex, curved surfaces” without getting interfacial stresses.
“These properties of the e-skin yield an economical and eco-friendly technology that can find broad applications in robotics, prosthetics, health care, and human-computer interface,” the abstract added.
Boulder mechanical engineer Jianliang Xiao, who led the study, told Newsweek that the e-skin would have broad applications and would “enable sensation of otherwise passive systems.”
Its key feature is the ability to sense pressure, the highlight of improving prosthetic limbs. Xiao explained that this should help amputees know how much pressure to put on the objects they are holding, and not accidentally…
