Chicago Cubs MLB 2015 News, Rumors: Cubs Have Lots of Young Talent

Kris Bryant is the young star for the Chicago Cubs that most sports fans have already heard of. However, the Cubs are rich in young talent as Theo Epstein since taking over the reigns has invested a lot of time and even a little bit of money into finding young talent foe the Cubs. That is a big reason why Joe Maddon was such a good fit there and explains away why he so suddenly left his last job with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Christian Post Report – The Chicago Cubs have a ton of young talent they hope to build around.

Beyond Bryant, who will begin the year at Triple A Iowa, the Cubs have Mike Olt who is 26 and who has had a great spring after tearing up the Arizona Fall League three years ago. Albert Almora has had a great spring as well, hitting .34 in 15 games and making himself look like a sure thing to make the 25-man active roster.

Everywhere one looks in the Cubs’ Sloan Park Complex one sees a top prospect that led MLB.com to rank their minor league system the best in baseball this year. Maddon is excited and impressed with his collection of young talent.

“Personality-wise, I have really been impressed with them as people, and their work has been great. As baseball players, you all knew how good they are. I’m getting to see it for the first time,” he said.

While Bryant is getting all of the attention, Maddon doesn’t see a big difference between him and Cuban Right Fielder Jorge Soler, who impressed the Cubs last spring and will get his first crack at a major league job.

“Coming into it, I had heard about him. To get the opportunity to work with somebody like that, as managers and coaches, it’s somewhat unique. He’s really that impressive, offensively and defensively, [and I] think he can be a good base runner also. He’s just a great guy. He smiles easily. He listens well. He’s the kind of guy you want to grow with,” he said.

The Dallas Cowboys have restructured the contract of Tony Romo again. While this saves them money in the short term, it adds significant salary to later years of the contract and more importantly increases his cap hit as he gets older.

Christian Post Report – Romo, set to turn 35 in a few weeks, will certainly decline in skill and he gets older as all NFL QBs do. This could create an interesting problem down the road for the team when it becomes necessary to cut Romo and eat the cap hit on the dead money all of this restructuring has created.

The Dallas Cowboys restructured the contract of QB Tony Romo freeing up enough cap space for a potential run at Adrian Peterson.

“The Cowboys have restructured Romo’s deal yet again, creating $12.8 million in cap space this year,” Pro Football Talk reported. “A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that it wasn’t a negotiated restructuring, but an automatic conversion of $16 million of Romo’s base salary to a signing bonus. His salary for 2015 becomes $1 million.”

Signed until 2019, the Cowboys have added $3.2 million of cap charge to the remaining years of the deal. However, the $12.8 million in cap space may become very significant as the team searches for a replacement for the departed Demarco Murray.

Adrian Peterson has a 2015 $12.75 million dollar cap hit, and has long been rumored to be interested in playing for the Dallas Cowboys. The running back wants out of Minnesota and fresh start somewhere else, and now the Cowboys have the cap room to absorb his contract. They would still need to trade for the talented running back and that cost is likely to be high.

“We might add that Peterson and Jerry Jones once had a conversation that skirted the lines of tampering, a conversation in which Peterson reportedly told Jones he wanted to retire a Cowboy,” Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports added. “This is, after all, a kid who grew up a Cowboys fan, went to their games (and in their locker room) as a high-school player in Texas and who wants no part of his current team.”

Android 5.0 Lollipop is considered as the cleanest and fastest Android version in history. Unfortunately, even version 5.0 has its flaws, problems and issues.

Christian Post Report – Google has developed the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, which has already rolled out in selected Nexus devices.

However, the newest major update would reportedly bring in new TouchWiz UI features to one of the most popular devices to launch in 2014 – the Galaxy Note 4.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the latest update for Android could potentially include the latest version of TouchWiz UI for the Galaxy phablet.

Samsung’s latest OS creation is the TouchWiz UX, which made its debut with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

TouchWiz UX will provide a number of new features, such as the appearance of dialer and camera shortcuts on the phone’s lockscreen.

The new Samsung UI would also include SmartLock, a feature that will prevent the device from “locking” whenever the smartphone is connected to a “trusted” network.

The brand new Galaxy Apps Store will also be able to offer various themes and designs to choose from.

On the other hand, the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop would fix some bugs and errors, while improving overall performance and security.

For people who have their own Galaxy Note 4 from Samsung, you just wait and see until the latest Lollipop version and TouchWiz UX becomes available.

Christian Post Report – Throughout the past week, Christians around the world have contemplated Jesus’ final steps as He made His way to the cross. His humiliation and suffering have broken our hearts, but just beneath the surface lay the expectation of what we knew was coming: He is risen!

The resurrection was the Savior’s destiny—but so was the cross. Jesus came as the Lamb of God to take away the sin of the world (John 1:29). But did you know that the cross is also God’s ordained destiny for believers? It’s the only way to deal with sin. When Jesus died at Calvary, He bore the punishment for our sins so that everyone who believes in Him can be forgiven and declared “Not Guilty!” From God’s judicial standpoint, we have already been crucified with Christ because the penalty for our sin has been paid. However, salvation doesn’t remove our old sinful thought patterns and desires.

What Christ did in removing the penalty of sin, we must each do personally to overcome the power of sin in our lives. But the cross is the last place we want to go. It not only brings pain, but the road leads through Gethsemane, where we have to say to God, “Not My will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42).

Though we long to overcome sin in our life, many of us are unwilling to do what’s required. Yet if we try to avoid the cross, we’ll miss the abundant life God wants to give us. Instead of living in consistent triumph over temptation, we will be on a roller coaster of ups and downs. Each time we fail, we’ll try harder, but there is no way to improve or reform our sinful tendencies. They have to be put to death.

The cross is not the end point. God’s goal is that we “walk in newness of life” (Rom. 6:4). Once we nail those old fleshly cravings to the cross, they’ll start to lose their appeal, and our hearts will begin to find delight in obeying the Lord. Just as Christ was raised from the dead, we, too, will find vibrant life and victory beyond our Golgotha.

Ask yourself these questions: What is at the center of my life? What drives me and gives me a sense of purpose? Does anything other than the Holy Spirit have control over me? What am I unwilling to surrender to the Lord? If anything or anyone in your life has priority over Christ, it’s idolatry. Whatever you are holding onto or whatever is holding onto you needs to be taken to the cross. A new life of freedom and power is waiting on the other side of the grave.

The conventional wisdom amongst NFL fans and pundits is a team that has multiple picks in the first round of the NFL draft should use those picks to move up and get one of the highly touted prospects. This usually means a trade into the top 10 and often into the top five.

Christian Post Report – This year the Cleveland Browns and the New Orleans Saints each have two picks in the first round. The decisions those front offices have to make is if they should package those picks to move up or simply use the picks they have to acquire two premiere players.

Gil Brandt over at NFL.com has a story that looks at the last five drafts and the times teams had more than one first round pick. In those five drafts, teams selected twice in round one 16 times, so this is a fairly common occurrence. Be they extra draft picks from off season dealings or trades made during the draft, teams having more than one first round selection happen often.

In the case of the Browns, who have twice over the last five drafts taken two players, both decisions led to pretty big draft busts. They picked twice in 2014 and came away with QB Johnny Manziel and CB Justin Gilbert. That doesn’t look good right now but it is far too early to call either player a definite bust. In 2012, the Browns selected twice in the first round and came away with QB Brandon Weedon and RB Trent Richardson, and they most certainly whiffed on both picks. Neither player still plays for Cleveland and that makes their 2015 that much more desperate.

In 2010 the Seattle Seahawks picked twice in the first round and those were the first two picks of the Pete Carroll era. They came away with OT Russell Okung and S Earl Thomas. Those two, along with a stellar 2010 draft class, became the foundation of the an eventual Super Bowl Championship team.

The lesson here is picking twice in the first round gives a franchise a chance to add two solid pieces, but good decisions have to be made with both picks and picking two players seems a far better way to go then trading up for one.

A lot of people were surprised when the Consumer Electronics Show and the Mobile World Congress passed without Sony announcing any flagships. In comparison, the Japanese manufacturer was more aggressive last year, announcing the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 only months apart.

Christian Post Report – Fortunately, a new leak suggests that the upcoming Sony Xperia Z4 is already on its way.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Android-powered smartphone recently showed up in a benchmarking app, GFXBench.

In the details that followed, the alleged Sony Xperia Z4 will potentially boast a 5.1-inch display, the company’s Triluminous technology and Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution.

The alleged Xperia Z4 continues to follow the HTC One M9’s footsteps with a Snapdragon 810 chipset, 3GB of RAM and a 32GB built-in memory, of which 23GB will be user-accessible.

Other features and specs include an Adreno 430 GPU, a 19MP (probably 20.7MP) back camera that can shoot 1080p clips. The phone runs on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box.

While the report did not specify whether the Xperia Z4 would get water and dust resistance, it may just be a given for any Sony flagship.

In the report, the mysterious Sony device has a model number E6553. Based on the Japanese manufacturer’s previous naming schemes, the report claims that this could in fact be the Xperia Z4.

Other brands who have not announced any high-end devices yet include Motorola. LG has already unveiled a high-end smartphone, the G Flex 2, but that was during the first week of January.

Christian Post Report – Memphis are currently second in the Western Conference with a 51-24 record and are trying to hold off teams like the Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers as the regular season comes to a close.

Zach Randolph of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies gives a special needs fan his shirt on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Thunder are holding on to the eighth spot, with only a few games as cushion over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Memphis recently broke their three-game losing streak with a 97-83 win over the Sacramento Kings. In their first of four straight home games, Memphis won behind 18 points from Mike Conley and 16 from Jeff Green. Marc Gasol struggled from the field and only scored eight points but also grabbed 11 rebounds. Kostas Koufos also had similar stats off the bench with eight points and 12 rebounds in less than 25 minutes on the court.

On the other hand, the Thunder lost 135-131 to the Dallas Mavericks and have now lost three of their last four matches.

Russell Westbrook had another big game with 31 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists to help the team. However, his 10th triple-double this season was not enough as Oklahoma City could not stop Dallas’ hot shooting. Anthony Morrow also had a breakout game in the loss, scoring 32 points and draining six of his nine three point attempts, while Enes Kanter notched 30 markers and 16 rebounds.

As far as their head-to-head battle this season, Memphis leads the series 2-1 heading into their final meeting.

Memphis won the first two games 91-89 and 85-74, before the Thunder bounced back with a big 105-89 win at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

In their last meeting, Kevin Durant was still available and the current MVP scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the win.

For Memphis, Zach Randolph scored a team high 16 points and 11 rebounds.
