‘King David’ Movie in the Works

Warner Bros. is launching development on a “King David” project, setting up the Biblical story with Gulfstream Pictures’ producers Mike Karz and Bill Bindley.

It’s the second David project in the works in Hollywood. Variety reported in July that Fox, Chernin Entertainment and Ridley Scott were developing a movie focusing on the King of Israel following the battle of David and Goliath.

The studio has optioned movie rights to the recently published book “David: The Divided Heart” by Rabbi David Wolpe. Warner Bros. and Gulfstream are co-financing the project’s development.

The script is being written by Nick Schoenfeld. Owen Stanley is executive producing.

Obtaining Extraordinary Power in Prayer

You can live a life of extraordinary, supernatural power! The secret is actually quite simple. God’s power is obtained through a lifestyle of intimacy with Him.

Jesus understood the connection between power and intimacy. Luke 5:15-16 says: “Great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed” (NKJV). Jesus was constantly flowing in the power of God and releasing it through His life to others. The level of His anointing was in direct proportion to His prayer life.

Everything Jesus accomplished in His earthly ministry was birthed out of the time He spent with the Father in prayer. In John 5:19 He declares, “‘Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.'” The mighty power that flowed through Jesus’ life to work miracles was a direct result of His communion with God. God taught me this truth early in my walk with Him. Both before and during my years in pastoral ministry I would spend hours a day waiting in His presence.

At that time I had no idea how God would use me to bring His love and power to thousands. I would often walk into my office at the church as a young pastor to find the manifest presence of the Holy Spirit waiting there for me. Periodically I would spend all day and night locked in my office basking in the radiance of His glory.

One day I felt guilty for spending so much time in prayer. I knew there were practical things that needed to be done. But God said to me, “Matt, if you do not have this time with Me now, you will not be able to walk in what I have for you in the future.”

Instantly all the guilt was gone. I knew that my future ministry would be released out of the time I was spending with God. And, of course, the tasks I had to do always got done.

After five years of pastoral ministry, during which the anointing of God increased on my life, I suddenly found myself being launched by Him into a worldwide, prophetic healing ministry. During the last several years we have seen thousands saved, healed and delivered by God’s power.

I attribute the anointing I have today to the years of hidden devotion I had with God as both a young person and a pastor.

I could write pages of accounts of divine encounters in which the power of God has been released as a result of my cultivating a relationship with the Holy Spirit in my life. One particularly memorable event occurred during a church service in West Virginia. It was 8:30 p.m., and we had already been worshiping for an hour and a half. Suddenly God said to me, “At 9 p.m. My power will hit this place.”

I knew something extraordinary was about to happen. I stood at the pulpit and encouraged those in attendance to continue worshiping. Then I instructed the ushers to close off all the air vents. I didn’t want anyone to mistake the air conditioning for the wind of God.

The members of the congregation lifted their hands and began to worship with a new fervor. The atmosphere became electrified with a supernatural faith.

At precisely 9 p.m. I could feel a surge of power hit my body as the person of the Holy Spirit swept across the sanctuary. Some could feel a physical wind blowing over their bodies, while others felt a tangible fire. God had invaded the meeting!

People ran forward testifying of God’s healing power. Many were instantly healed of fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, chronic back pain, chest pain, shoulder conditions, knee injuries, pneumonia and rheumatoid arthritis.

As we have allowed the Holy Spirit to move in our meetings since that incident, we have also witnessed the healing of cancer, the opening of deaf ears, the restoration of sight to blind eyes and the ability to walk to the lame, as well as the healing of deep emotions. Glory to God!

Let me encourage you to continually develop a lifestyle of intimacy with God. Not only will you experience His tremendous power, but you will also enjoy getting to know Him, walking closely with Him and learning the secrets of His heart. You will discover that fellowship with Him is the greatest joy a person can experience.

You can walk intimately with God and live in the reality of His presence every day of your life. You can be a releaser of His glory in a hurting and lost world. Whether to the woman in the grocery store who needs healing from arthritis or to the multitudes in Africa and India who are starving and lost in spiritual darkness, you can carry God’s power and love as you intimately walk with God each day.

If your growing kid cannot think beyond junk food like burgers or pizza to satiate his/her hunger pangs, blame Facebook.

According to a study, social media websites are significantly contributing towards marketing junk food to teenagers.

Researchers from the University of Sydney in Australia analysed how food that was nutritionally poor was marketed on social media sites and focused on the audience that was most likely to be engaged with marketing of this kind.

They looked at the Facebook pages of 27 high-ranked food and beverage brands.

They found that companies that sold foods that are poor in nutrients and energy-dense, attracted young adults and teenagers on social media sites.

The study also revealed that company content was being shared increasingly by those Facebook users who had high engagement with unhealthy food firms.

“The engagement from Facebook users was high when these food companies ran contests or competitions or associated their products with positive events,” said lead researcher Becky Freeman.

By using the interactive and social aspects of Facebook to market products, energy-dense and nutrient-poor food brands capitalise on users’ social networks and magnify the reach and personal relevance of their marketing messages, the researchers concluded.

iPhone 6 Plus Pre-Orders Top Galaxy Note 4 On Home Turf

There’s bad news for Samsung as it looks set to cede ground to Apple on its home turf of Korea.

According to WSJ’s Korea Realtime blog, analysts estimate that pre-orders for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have reached roughly 100,000 units, which is over three times the estimated 30,000 units that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 received over a similar time frame.

The pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus began in Korea on Friday. The three mobile carriers reportedly received “tens of thousands” pre-orders in less than an hour. The report notes that KT Corp., the first telecom company to introduce the iPhone in the Korean market, claimed that it racked up 10,000 orders in one minute of the sale, and 50,000 in thirty minutes for both the iPhone models.

On the other hand, LG Uplus Corp., which is selling the iPhone for the first time, claimed that it received 20,000 orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus within 20 minutes. The largest mobile carrier in Korean market, SK Telecom Co., also claimed that its first and second batch of pre-sale quota for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been fully booked, but it didn’t reveal the numbers.

The numbers are likely to go higher as the pre-sale will continue till the smartphones hit store shelves on Friday, October 31.

The report notes that Apple has traditionally enjoyed very little success in Korea, with just 6 percent handset marketshare compared to Samsung’s 63 percent, according to Counterpoint Research.

“But with Apple piggybacking on Samsung’s large-screen strategy, there are concerns that Samsung will lose its only advantage, which has been its large screen sizes,” Lee Seung-woo, an analyst with IBK Securities in Seoul told WSJ’s Korea Realtime.
Earlier this month, reports emerging from China had claimed that retailers and telecom operators had collectively received 2 million reservations in first 6 hours for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus booking, with reports later claiming the total pre-orders had reached about 20 million.

The Archbishop of Canterbury says child abuse is “rampant” in many UK institutions – including the Church.

Most Revd Justin Welby made the comments in a private letter to a mother who’s three sons were abused at their CofE school.

He was responding to the concerns of Marilyn Hawes who had written several times to senior church officials and only received a generic response.

Her three sons suffered abuse at the hands of a head teacher who was later sentenced to 15 months in prison.

The churchgoer said despite her children going on to achieve ‘great things’ they didn’t receive any support from the Church.

In his response, Archbishop Justin said: “I read your story with the same deep sense of sadness and dismay that I have felt on far too many other, similar accounts.

“The betrayal of Christ in such behaviour is complete; the church’s failure to face the misdeeds of those in its service is inexcusable.

“I can only apologise for what happened then, and for what has happened now, most sincerely and with deep sorrow.

“It is now clear that in a huge number of institutions and localities, the abuse of children and vulnerable adults has been rampant.”

His letter comes just weeks after the Church announced clergy would be given more training on safeguarding to combat child sex abuse.

The mother told the Daily Mail newspaper she was ‘delighted’ an archbishop was finally dealing with the issue of abuse.

A vicar who was accused of conducting hundreds of bogus weddings has thanked parishioners on his return to work.

Revd Nathan Ntege, 55, walked free after a judge said immigration officers had lied on oath.

He was investigated over his work at St Jude’s with St Aidan Church in Thornton Heath in South London and worshipped there on Sunday after his trial collapsed.

He was joined by the Bishop of Croydon, Rt Revd Jonathan Clark who asked the congregation to not focus on what happened in court but instead focus on God.

Speaking about his return to work the Diocese of Southwark said: “As the case has been stayed Revd Nathan Ntege is free to return to work. The Bishop of Southwark has already met with him to discuss supervision, oversight and support in the light of the issues raised by this matter.

“The Diocese takes seriously its obligation to ensure the clergy are regularly offered up to date advice and training in both their legal and financial responsibilities. Revd Nathan Ntege has been offered such training in the past and the Diocese hopes that the renewed offer will be accepted.”

During Sunday’s morning service Revd Ntege received a blessing and went on to thank parishioners for their support and prayers.

He also said he wouldn’t be doing any interviews on the matter.

The vicar was on trial last week at Inner London Crown Court on 14 counts of breaching immigration law and fraud.

However Judge Nic Madge ruled a number of witnesses acted unlawfully.

According to the BBC, he said: “I am satisfied that this is a case in which there has been both bad faith and serious misconduct on the part of the prosecution.

“I am satisfied that officers at the heart of this prosecution have deliberately concealed important evidence and lied on oath.”

The case against six people accused alongside Mr Ntege has also collapsed.

The Crown Prosecution Service says it accepts the judge’s ruling while the Home Office says it’s disappointed: “The collapse of this trial is an extremely disappointing end to a long investigation.

“We expect the highest standards from all our staff, and clearly we are treating the judge’s ruling that our officers acted in bad faith with the utmost seriousness.

The Christian Police Association is calling for moral and ethical training, after a compensation pay-out by the Met over an undercover operation.

The Metropolitan Police is expected to pay £425,000 to a woman who had a baby with a man she didn’t know was an undercover police officer.

The woman, known only as Jacqui, met Bob Lambert in the 1980s and gave birth to their son in 1985, but only discovered his true identity in 2012.

Scotland Yard says the force “unreservedly apologises for any pain and suffering that the relationship had on this woman”.

Although this is the first settlement by the Met of its kind, there are other women who claim to have suffered emotional trauma, after discovering that previous relationships were with undercover officers.

The Executive Director of Christian Police Association, Don Axcell, told Premier’s News Hour the situation is a difficult one and not morally ‘clear-cut’.

He said: “Officers who do go undercover are under extreme stress, in case they are found out and violence is exhibited towards them. That is a danger they take on willingly.

“And so if you are in the middle of building a relationship and sexual encounter offers itself, the officer then has to balance: ‘Do I engage in that? Or if I refuse that, would it jeopardise the whole operation?'”

He argued that more could be done to improve the moral and ethical guidance and training given to police officers:

“Anyone involved in this sort of work needs to have a strong moral compass.

“Whether it’s done with a religious background or not, officers need to know where they get their standards from and be encouraged to uphold them.”

Although they get little attention from candidates, white evangelical Christian voters are likely to be fundamental to any Republican victories in the key Senate races, especially in the South.

Reuters/Ipsos polling data shows evangelicals are more enthusiastic than the general population about the midterms.

The religious right’s influence may be much reduced since the days of Moral Majority leader Jerry Falwell’s alliances with Republican presidents.

But Christian conservatives will probably vote in greater numbers on November 4 than others, giving them an outsized say in who runs Congress. Forty-nine per cent of evangelicals say they have a great deal of interest or quite a bit of interest in news about the elections, compared to 38 per cent of non-evangelicals.

“It strongly shows that the evangelical population is very engaged, very interested in what’s happening and much easier to turn out for an election than the population as a whole,” said Ipsos pollster Chris Jackson.

Almost 40 per cent of Republicans said they were born-again or evangelical Christians, according to the online survey.

In his homily for Mass at the Santa Marta residence on Oct. 24, Pope Francis reflected on the call of Christians to perpetuate unity in the Church by being “living stones” built upon the “cornerstone of Christ.”

This creating of unity in the Church, the Pope said, recounting the reading from Saint Paul to the Philippians, “is the work of the Church and of every Christian throughout history.”

In addition, the Holy Father cited the Apostle Peter, who contrasts the Church – “a temple made of living stone” – with the Tower of Babel, which he described as the “temple of pride.” The first temple creates “unity,” he said, whereas the second symbolizes disunity and misunderstanding.

The task of every Christian, Pope Francis said, is “to create unity in the Church,” the temple built upon Jesus, who is the “cornerstone”.

Jesus is the “rock upon which the Church’s unity” is built, the Pope said, adding that “there is no unity without Jesus Christ at its base: He is our certainty.”

It is the Holy Spirit who creates this unity, the Holy Father said. “For this reason, Jesus sent Him: to make the Church grow, to make it strong, to make it one.”

In order to be strong “bricks” of the Temple, Pope Francis said the faithful must first become “weak” through the virtues of humility, kindness, and generosity. The weaker we become through these virtues which seemingly serve no purpose, the Pope said, the stronger we become as “living stones” of the Temple.

Just as Jesus “was made weak” even unto the Cross, the Pope said, “He became strong.” On the other hand, “Pride [and] conceit are useless.”

In creating this Temple, Pope Francis said, the architect must lay out a ground plan. This plan is “the hope to which we are called: the hope of going towards the Lord, the hope of living in a living Church, made with living stones, with the strength of the Holy Spirit.” It is only with this hope as the “ground plan” that it is possible “to move forward in the unity of the Church.”

“We are called to a great hope,” he said. “Let us go there! But with the strength which Jesus’ prayer for unity gives us; with the gentleness of the Holy Spirit, who is able to make living stones from bricks; and with the hope of finding the Lord who has called us to encounter him in the fullness of time!”

One church is offering frosty beers to those who would like to worship with hymns this upcoming Sunday.

East Side Christian Church in Tulsa is going to offer beer and hymns Sunday night as part of a weekend-long discussion about the future of the Christian church around the world.

“I think it’s a little surprise for some people here in Oklahoma, but we like to rattle the cage a little bit,” Evan Taylor, outreach pastor at East Side Christian Church, told KOKI.

The event taking place at the church is also a part of a weekend of beer sipping and theological discussion.

“It’s a chance to reach a wide demographic of people to ask the questions of what’s happening in our Christian world, what’s happening in our churches, and what’s happening in our community,” Michael Riggs, senior pastor at First Christian Church of Downtown Tulsa, shared with KOKI.

Three events will be hosted over the upcoming weekend with First Christian Church of Downtown Tulsa, East Side Christian Church, Harvard Avenue Christian Church, Phillips Theological Seminary, and Oklahoma Disciples Foundation. Portland-based religious author Christian Piatt will also participate in the events and will be discussing his book which focuses on the future of the Christian church as a whole in the world.
