Notre Dame work resumes with new anti-contamination measures in place

This time the workers were wearing disposable underwear and other protective gear after a delay prompted by fears of lead contamination.

Activity resumed under strict lead-protection measures for the stonemasons, clean-up workers and scientists working on the site, according to the Culture Ministry.

They include throwaway full-body clothing, obligatory showers and a new decontamination zone to ensure that they do not track pollution outside the site.

The workers are clearing out hazardous debris and studying and consolidating the medieval monument – a crucial first step to prepare the fragile cathedral for a long, multimillion-pound reconstruction effort.

But even this first step is taking longer than expected because of lead worries.

Hundreds of tons of lead melted in the April 15 fire that decimated Notre Dame’s roof and toppled its spire, spewing toxic dust into the air.

Some environmental activists and residents say French authorities underplayed the lead poisoning risks in the aftermath of the blaze.

Under pressure from labour inspectors, the Paris regional administration ordered the consolidation work to be halted in July pending new worker-protection measures.

Now multiple lead-prevention operations are under way in the area around Notre Dame. Experts are carrying out a deep clean of neighbourhood schools and are spraying chemical agents and vacuuming surrounding streets to remove any residual lead.

The regional health authority said last month that…

Trump DOJ: Transgender Employees not Protected by Civil Rights Act of 1964

Trump DOJ: Transgender Employees not Protected by Civil Rights Act of 1964

The Trump Justice Department is siding with a Christian-owned funeral home against a fired transgender employee in a major Supreme Court case that will determine whether federal law bans employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The high court will hear oral arguments Oct. 8 to decide if Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 – which bars discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin – also bans discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Lower courts have split on the issue. The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals – which heard the funeral home case – ruled that the definition of “sex” within the Civil Rights Act encompasses sexual orientation and gender identity.

The Trump Justice Department, in a new brief, sides with R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes, a Michigan business which dismissed a biological male employee who came out as a transgender female and began dressing like a woman. The ex-employee is Aimee Stephens, formerly known as Anthony Stephens.

The funeral home’s owner is a Christian who has a sex-specific dress code requiring “male employees to wear suits and ties and female employees to wear skirts and business jackets,” the brief notes.

The question of whether transgender employees should be protected within the Civil Rights Act, the Justice…

BBC’s Songs of Praise faces criticism for first same-sex wedding

The wedding ceremony of Jamie Wallace and Ian McDowall at the Rutherglen United Reformed Church in Glasgow was filmed as part of an episode on faith and marriage.

It also included a couple where the husband was an atheist and the wife was a Christian.

The episode has been praised by websites such as pink news and stonewall, with one author saying: “Places of worship should be safe spaces where we can bring every part of ourselves, but the exclusion I’ve felt in the past made me reluctant to bring my whole self to church.”

However, many have expressed disappointment in what they see as the increased liberalism within the church and willingness to accept culture’s norms.

Graham Nicholls from the Affinity network of evangelical churches in the UK told Premier his problem with churches, like the URC congregation showed, was that it epitomised what he sees as a departure from God’s word: “It’s normally not just the one thing. It’s not like in all other areas they’re very orthodox and Bible-believing and teaching the gospel and in this one area they happen to think differently…it’s more like this is a part of a sort of continuum of probably moving away from biblical Christianity and moving to a kind of religiosity which says ‘we won’t really define the terms, but we’ll say love is good and justice is good and inclusivity is good and that kind of means we…

Founder of Auntie Anne’s Shares Purpose after Sexual Abuse, Personal Loss and Suicide

Founder of Auntie Anne’s Shares Purpose after Sexual Abuse, Personal Loss and Suicide

Auntie Anne’s Pretzels have been a mall staple for years, dishing out buttery, salty soft pretzels to shoppers around the world. But behind the scenes of the booming business, founder Anne Beiler wrestled through guilt, shame, sexual abuse, and devastating loss.

“Without God, there would be no Auntie Anne’s today. I can say that with confidence,” Beiler said in an interview with the Christian Post. “I would’ve died. I was about to run away and start a new life. Instead, God said, ‘Get up off your knees.’ What I know now is that all of the things I’ve experienced have been for a purpose; out of my pain, purpose was born.”

Beiler’s earliest understanding of theology began in a small Amish community in Pennsylvania. She had been taught to believe that “life is good, and God is harsh.” When she married at the age of 19, she continued to carry this belief with her.

With her high school sweetheart, Jonas, Beiler gave birth to her daughter Angela. But tragedy struck when Angela was 18 months old, dying in a tragic farming accident.

“I struggled so much and blamed God for allowing Angela to die,” she said. “I couldn’t stop grieving; I couldn’t stop crying. I began to feel guilty as a Christian because I believed that I was a conqueror and able to overcome and be victorious through Christ. But I couldn’t get over that…

Police ask for help to find body of girl murdered by church member

The 20 year old midwifery student was murdered by Shofah El-Israel, whose birth name is Ajibola Shogbamimu, and he has been sentenced to 17 years.

He also attended the closed and strict community at Israel United in Christ Church, where they believe that black people are the natural 12 tribes of Israel.

He was convicted of murder despite Joy’s body never being found.

In a video appealing to anyone who might know or stumble across information, Detective Superintendent Jo Walker, Head of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, explained the unique challenges of investigating cases where the absence of a body means that forensic opportunity is reduced.

Det Supt Walker said: “She had a life with the church, she had friends, she had family and there were events that Joy had planned.

“If she were alive there are things that she would still be doing.”

She added: “We really would like to find Joy’s body – somebody out there, somewhere, we hope has some information, however small that may be, that could help lead us to Joy’s body. I would urge anyone who has information or thinks they remember anything back from those dates that would help us, please contact us.”

“We’ve got a family that are without their daughter’s body. I would urge anyone that’s got any information to please come forward and help us find Joy’s body and get her back to her…

IDF Attacks Underground Terror Structures after Hamas Fires Rockets into Israel over the Weekend

IDF Attacks Underground Terror Structures after Hamas Fires Rockets into Israel over the Weekend

After Palestinian terror groups fired several rockets into Israel on Friday, the Israel Defense Forces struck back, attacking “two underground terror structures,” the Times of Israel reports.

“A short time ago, IDF warplanes and aircraft attacked two underground terror structures of the Hamas terror group in the north and center of the Gaza Strip,” the IDF said in a statement.

“The attack was carried out in response to the rocket that was launched from Gaza earlier tonight. The IDF will continue to act against attempts to harm Israeli civilians and sees the Hamas terror group as responsible for all that is done in the Gaza strip,” the group wrote in a statement regarding Friday night’s attack. Reportedly, the rocket fired on Friday was intercepted by Israel’s missile defense system – the Iron Dome.

According to CBN News, the Hamas terror group is believed to have fired three more rockets into southern Israel on Saturday. Of the three rockets fired into Israel, two were intercepted by the Iron Dome. The third rocket – a Qassem rocket – reportedly struck the yard of a home in Sderot.

No one was directly injured by the rockets, though two people were injured while trying to run to shelter. According to the Jerusalem Post, a 30-year-old woman fainted while running toward a bomb shelter and a 76-year-old woman suffered…
