China orders towns to monitor and count Christians

The Communist Party of China has been cracking down on religion in recent months and has intensified its measures by ordering local governments to closely supervise and monitor its residents who believe in God.

Officials are expected to report to the government on a regular basis. The consequences are severe if the numbers appear to have been doctored.

A local official from Henan province told Bitter Winter, a magazine on religious freedom and human rights in China, “the government is taking the matter of religion very seriously now. Every day, they ask us how many people in our village believe in God.

“If we say there aren’t any believers, they claim that we’re concealing what we know and failing to report it. If it is determined that we didn’t report the situation truthfully, we will be punished.”

Local officials are expected to report back to local government twice a day. Another local official said: “It’s like our lives are being threatened. After reporting someone, we have to restrict their movements and report their situation every day.”

Mother Whose Child was Given ‘Gender Transition Care’ without Parental Consent Appeals to Supreme Court

Mother Whose Child was Given ‘Gender Transition Care’ without Parental Consent Appeals to Supreme Court

A Minnesota mother is asking the Supreme Court to hear a case involving the decision of Minnesota officials to provide gender transition treatments for her son without her consent. The child in question was a minor when the decision was made, the Christian Post reports.

The Thomas More Society will be representing Anmarie Calgaro, who went through what Thomas More Society Special Counsel Erick Kaardal called, “A parent’s worst nightmare.”

The case began when Calgaro’s son, only identified as E.J.K.. moved out of the house and was declared to be legally emancipated. This allowed E.J.K. to receive “gender transition care.” The Thomas More Society’s petition for a writ of certiorari said the “care” involved” life-altering elective medical services for gender transformation, including potential surgery.”

Even though E.J.K. was a minor at the time of emancipation, Calgaro was barred from stopping the treatments by medical providers and prohibited from obtaining records from E.J.K.’s school. Karrdal said the actions of medical providers and the school were unbelievable. “Minnesota statutes authorize a county to deem a minor ‘emancipated’ to receive welfare payments to live on their own and allow medical providers to void parental input if it determines the minor is living apart from the parents and is managing…

YouTube bans using word ‘Christian’ in targeted ads

Chad Robichaux, founder of the Mighty Oaks Foundation – a charity providing support and discipleship to those suffering from wartime trauma, was told he could not use the label ‘Christian’ to boost his advert on the Google owned platform as it violated the site’s advertising policy.

Mr Robichaux posted about the incident on twitter, claiming not allowing the word Christian was discriminating:

“We ran a YouTube ad for our veterans ministry outreach for those in need & it was denied for the word “Christian”. Insane! #Censorship should terrify every American; conservative or liberal, Christian or Muslim. This bias is a dangerous course for America.” @MightyOaksFDN

The YouTube team responded to Mr Robichaux’s tweets, maintaining that targeting users based on their religion was in breach of their advertising policy but that adverts can include the term ‘Christian’ in them and still hope to reach a Christian audience.

“We know that religious beliefs are personal, so we don’t allow advertisers to target users on the basis…

Six Reasons a Healthy Culture Is Imperative for Inviting Others to Church

Podcast Episode #557

Church culture is important to the outreach of a church, and subsequently, how much members will invite others. Today we discuss how inviting can create and improve the church culture.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • Church culture is important because it is to be a reflection of the gospel in a local church.
  • If you provide invitation cards to church members, they are more likely to invite others to church than if they don’t have something to hand to others.
  • Having a healthy church culture has much more to do than the worship style of the church being “cool.”
  • A welcome team is a worthless team if it is not a joyous team.

The six reasons we discuss are:

  1. Invitations are natural and desired.
  2. The first-time guest becomes an inviter.
  3. The welcome team loves their ministry.
  4. The pastor is naturally inclined to encourage invitations to church.
  5. The worship spirit is strong.
  6. Energy and time are expended on those things that really matter.

Poll suggests climate change is more important to Christians than Brexit in long term

73 per cent of Christians polled said they think climate change will be more important than the leaving the European Union in the long-term and 65 per cent said they don’t think the Government is doing enough to prioritise climate change.

Amongst all those polled, 71 per cent considered climate change more pressing than Brexit long-term and just over half said they cared more about climate change than Brexit.

ComRes interviewed 2,072 UK adults online last weekend who were representative of all UK adults by age, gender, region and social grade.

Laura Taylor, director of advocacy for Christian Aid, said: “As Prime Minister Boris Johnson gets his feet under the table at Number 10, there are a large number of urgent priorities. However, it is clear that beyond the present political turmoil, UK adults know there is a bigger crisis which is potentially catastrophic for the whole of humanity – particularly some of the world’s poorest people, who are more vulnerable to the effects of this climate emergency.

“I hope the Prime Minister will hear the challenge from the majority of the UK public to do more to tackle this climate emergency. We need a rapid and radical shift to reduce emissions in the UK and we need global action for climate justice in which the most vulnerable communities are supported to not only survive but to thrive.”

Nearly three quarters of Christians…

South Carolina city removes monument to fallen officers: How vocal should Christians be?

Note from Dr. Denison: While my wife and I are on vacation, our oldest son, Ryan, is writing The Daily Article. Ryan is an MDiv graduate of Truett Seminary currently completing his PhD in Church History. He has written The Daily Article in my absence in the past and was the co-author of our latest publication, How Does God See America? I am honored to share this ministry with him.

A monument donated to the local police department of Tega Cay, South Carolina, is making headlines today after the City Council chose to remove it only a few weeks after it was put in place.

The monument contained a reference to Matthew 5:9, in which Jesus stated, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God,” as well as a prayer asking the Lord for courage, strength, and compassion, among other qualities.

After complaints began to come into the City Council, officials decided to scrub the word Lord from the prayer, before recently deciding to simply remove the monument for the time being.

While officials may have hoped that removing the monument would end the argument, that’s not what has happened in the days since. Rather, complaints have continued to file into the office, this time from those angered that the memorial is no longer present.

As Tega Cay City Manager Charlie Funderburk described it, “There’s no win here at all,” which is probably the only aspect of this controversy everyone can agree on.

How to know when to speak—and when to wait

In yesterday’s article on the Mueller hearing and nonpartisanship, we discussed some of the reasons why we need to be cognizant of not only the views we take but also about how we express them if we want to be faithful to the gospel calling each of us has received. Stories like the situation emerging in South Carolina highlight why that can be so difficult.

The basic reality is that, in today’s world, the quickest results often come from the loudest…
