Parents who object to their daughter’s abortion would be required to pay for it and could be held liable under a pro-choice bill that passed the Illinois House Wednesday.

The bill, H.B. 25, liberalizes the state’s abortion laws and declares abortion a “fundamental right, as Christian Headlines previously reported.

But the bill also repeals language that explicitly protected parents from being forced to pay for their daughter’s abortion if they didn’t give consent.

Current law states: “No parent shall be liable for any expense incurred by his or her minor child when an abortion is performed on such minor child without the consent of both parents of such child.” The bill – which passed, 64-50 – deletes that section of law.

Republican Rep. Avery Bourne, who voted against the bill, said during floor debate the bill targets parental rights.

“It takes out measures that we have legislated over the years, because we think it’s important to stand up for the people who are impacted,” she said.

A Greenville, SC couple is suing both the state and the Trump Administration after a Christian foster care agency rejected their application to become foster parents. Eden Rogers and Brandy Welch, who have been married for three years and have two children of their own, applied to become foster parents through Miracle Hill Ministries, but the agency turned down their application because they feel “a religious obligation to partner with foster parents who share our beliefs and who are active in a Christian church.”

In January, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued a waiver that allowed foster care agencies who receive federal funds in South Carolina to refuse to offer services that come into conflict with their religious convictions. The lawsuit alleges that the HHS and South Carolina are guilty of “unlawfully authorizing state-contracted, government-funded foster care agencies to use religious eligibility criteria to exclude qualified families from fostering children in the public child welfare system.” They further claim the waivers violate the establishment, equal protection, and due process clauses of the United States Constitution.

A leading Christian abolitionist has said that the number one way to effectively battle the modern-day sex trafficking trade is to stop watching pornography.

Christine Caine, an international evangelist, leads global anti-trafficking organization A21, which helps police prosecute traffickers and offers care to the victims of sex slavery.

Famed hip-hop artist Chance the Rapper has said that he is trusting God after revealing that his aunt is in “dire need” of a kidney transplant.

The “Ultralight Beam” singer announced the concerning news on Twitter May 23 and pleaded with his 8.2 million followers for assistance. “I really need help,” he wrote. “My Auntie Toni is one of the strongest forces in my life, and she is in dire need of a #kidney. We have exhausted all options and have been wait listed for years.”

A record-setting baby girl born at 23 weeks of gestation and weighing barely half a pound left a San Diego hospital this month – and just might lead a few people to rethink their position on abortion. 

Nicknamed Saybie, she went home five months after being born weighing only 8.6 ounces. It is believed to be a record for the smallest-ever surviving baby. 

“For comparison, at birth she was roughly the same weight as a large apple or a child’s juice box,” said Trisha Khaleghi, the senior vice president and chief executive at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns, where Saybie was born. The parents chose not to reveal Saybie’s real name. 

Saybie was born in December 2018 and discharged in early May as a “healthy 5-pound infant,” according to a press release.

She was born at 23 weeks, 3 days gestation. A pregnancy typically lasts 40 weeks. (The record for earliest baby to survive is 21 weeks, 4 days.) 

Saybie was delivered after the mother developed preeclampsia. 

The survival rate for babies born at 23 weeks is about 20 percent, a doctor told the Washington Post. 

“She’s a miracle,” Kim Norby, a nurse who cared for Saybie, said in a video released by the hospital.
