Georgia Gov. Defies Hollywood Threats, Signs Pro-Life Heartbeat Bill

Georgia Gov. Defies Hollywood Threats, Signs Pro-Life Heartbeat Bill

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp defied threats of a Hollywood boycott and pressure from pro-choice groups to sign a bill Tuesday banning abortion after a heartbeat is detected.

The Writers Guild of America had said Kemp’s signing the law would force talent “in our industry” to “leave the state or decide not to bring productions there.” Actress Alyssa Milano had released a letter of 50 actors threatening a boycott if Kemp signed it. Georgia has a thriving film and television industry.

But Kemp, during a ceremony with supporters, said the law is needed because “Georgia is a state that values life.” The bill, HB 481, is known as the Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act.

“We protect the innocent, we champion, the vulnerable. We stand up and speak for those unable to speak for themselves,” Kemp said. “… I realize that some may challenge it in the court of law, but our job is to do what is right – not what is easy. Through the Life Act, we will allow precious babies to grow up and realize their full God-given potential.”

The new law states that “no abortion is authorized or shall be performed if an unborn child has been determined … to have a detectable human heartbeat.” It makes exceptions for rape, incest, medical emergencies and if a doctor determines a “pregnancy is medically futile.” A heartbeat can be detected as early…

Christian charity backs school exclusion report, says churches have role to play

It is claimed that there is ‘too much variation’ in the system and excluding a child from a school should be a last resort.

Around 40 children a day were expelled in 2016-17.

Transforming Lives for Good (TLG) helps churches support struggling and vulnerable children. Speaking on Premier’s News Hour Its education director, Scott Halligan welcomed the findings.

“It’s clearly a very good thing,” he said. “It’s a step in the right direction – we know that many of the young people that are excluded from school are often forgotten about.”

Halligan believes churches have a role to play in supporting children in their communities who are struggling at school.

He said:”We exist at TLG to reintegrate students back into mainstream school – one of our mantras is the verse Jeremiah 29:11.

“We aim to enable the local church to bring hope and a future to struggling families.

“We really believe that can happen if young people come to us and we can work with them early enough, we can get them back into school.

“We can build them up and give them coping strategies.

“It tends to take us about two-terms working quite intensively with students for them to integrate back into mainstream education and not only to survive but to flourish.”
The report by ex-education minister Edward Timpson makes 30 recommendations which the government says it’ll adopt.

Education Secretary Damian Hinds said:…

“Do All Christians Think the Same?”: Popular YouTube Channel Asks Christians to Rate Their Beliefs on LGBT Issues, Doubt, and Music

“Do All Christians Think the Same?”: Popular YouTube Channel Asks Christians to Rate Their Beliefs on LGBT Issues, Doubt, and Music

A popular YouTube channel put Christians to the test by asking six believers if all Christians think the same.

In a nearly 12-minute video called “Do All Christians Think the Same?”, hosts from the YouTube channel Jubilee read a series of statements to six Christians and asked them to determine how much they agreed or disagreed with each statement.

Before each statement was read, the participants all stood on a center line on the floor. After the host read a statement, the participants were asked to move to the line on the floor corresponding to their level of agreement or disagreement ranging from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree.”

The hosts asked the participants to evaluate everything from their thoughts on Christian music to their thoughts on supporting the LGBT community. Not a single time did all six participants end up on the same line, and in many cases, they were split 50/50 in the room.

This was exactly the case when the participants were prompted to rate how strongly they agreed or disagreed with supporting the LGBT community.

One woman, Kytia, who “strongly disagreed” with supporting the LGBT community explained her response saying, “When we mention support, it means to accept, and I don’t accept the lifestyles within the community. But do I love them? Do I want the…

‘Nothing is impossible with God’, church leader urges prayer over NI political talks

Northern Ireland has been without a government for two years following its collapse in January 2017, due to ongoing disagreements between the Democratic Unionists and Sinn Fein.

After the death of journalist Lyra McKee, politicians have been put under increasing pressure to break their deadlock and come to an agreement in the delegation of power across the region.

President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, Rev William Davison is one of many church leaders who has sort to build unity between the parties.

Speaking on Premier’s News Hour he said: “Nothing is impossible with God and although we don’t underestimate the challenges that the political parties face, we still believe that with prayer all things are possible.

“During all the years of the dreadful troubles – sometimes we thought they would never come to an end – people persevered in prayer and eventually a breakthrough came.

“We believe that a breakthrough will eventually come and we will have these institutions up and running again.”

Rev Davison is praying that the parties will come to a compromise that prioritises the common good of the people of Northern Ireland.

Low attendance days happen in the life of every church. While they are often unavoidable, you can potentially improve them and make them fewer and farther between.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • In your new members class, you need to address the importance of regular worship attendance.
  • Unexpected low attendance days can be frustrating for church leaders.

The new royal baby and Nelson Mandela: Answering ‘the call to be selfless’

Great Britain has a new royal baby, and the world has a new celebrity.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, went into labor yesterday, delivering her first child, a boy. He is now seventh in line for the throne. The couple had previously announced that their new child would not make his or her public appearance on its first day, a departure from royal tradition.

But their son will not need to inherit the throne to change the world.

Prince Harry served in the British Army for ten years and now works to support those wounded in service. He also helps build programs to improve sports coaching and mentoring, supports children living with HIV/AIDS, and works for African conservation.

Prior to marrying Prince Harry, Meghan Markle was the United Nations Women’s Advocate and a Global Ambassador for World Vision. She now serves as a patron for charities supporting vulnerable women, education, the arts, and animal welfare.

Their son is already changing the royal family. In years to come, we will watch to see how he changes the world.

Two who died so others could live

On a somber note, Riley Howell was buried last Sunday. When a gunman opened fire in Riley’s classroom at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte last week, Riley charged the shooter, saving the lives of others. A ROTC member, his memorial service was conducted with military honors.

The same day, a Russian passenger jet caught fire after an emergency landing at one of Moscow’s main airports. At least forty-one people were killed.

According to TASS, the Russian News Agency, one of the deceased was a flight attendant who died trying to save passengers. Maksim Moiseev was in the rear of the aircraft when it caught fire. After trying unsuccessfully to open an exit door, he started helping people leave the plane.

He stayed on board until everyone had evacuated, then died in the fire.

Why older people can change the world

The Power of Mercy and Grace

A Promise For You From Bible Promises: [07/MAY/2019]

Topic: The Power of Mercy and Grace

She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. – John 8:11.

Read: John 8:1-12

Someone said, it’s the mercy of the Lord that turns a mess into a message to reach the dying world. This is so true. When a man obtains the mercy of God, such a man is forgiven all his sins. When God’s mercy is in place in a man’s life, judgment has no power over such person. When mercy is in place, your rightful position is not just giving to you but sustained forever. When God’s mercy is in place, forgiveness becomes easy. The woman in our Bible reading obtained God’s mercy which set her free from the condemnation of the law of Moses. May the mercy of the Lord turn all your mess into a message to reach the world in JESUS Mighty Name.

On the other hand, grace polishes you up to attract favour from God and man. What mercy has forgiven, grace picks up for sweatless and flawless victory in life. Grace positions you for greatness. Grace opens doors of opportunities for your destiny fulfilment. When you are under God’s grace, before you knock, the door is opened. Grace moves you to the very top without much work. It is not luck but grace makes men great in life.

Do you want to enjoy God’s mercy and grace in all that you do today? Then, you must come to the real grace of God personified – Jesus Christ. One of the things the mercy and the grace of God will do in your life first is to forgive you your sins and save you from the impending judgment. Jesus the grace of God will turn you into a wonder to the world.

Bible Promises Thought:To obtain mercy and the grace of God is to turn your life to Jesus Christ the grace of God personified. Do it now.

Don’t Stop Dreaming – by Cindy Jacobs

The Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, “Many of My people feel they are stuck, like nothing’s going on in their life, nothing’s going right, it’s not going the way they want.”

And the Lord just says to you, “I am working behind the scenes, even as I worked with Abraham and Sarah. I am doing something that is gonna bring fruitfulness to your life, that is going to bring the change you want into your life. You may have had a vision for so long or been in a dreaming process for so long that you feel like nothing is going to change.”

The Lord says, “When you pray and you talk to Me about your dreams, I listen, for I’m a dreaming God. I have dreams for you. I have plans for you. I have ideas for you. I have a vision for you. And you have said to Me, ‘But Lord, doesn’t Your Word say that, without a vision, people perish?'”

But the Lord says, “I never stopped having vision for you. I never stopped having dreams for you. Just like you dream for your family, I dream for you. Do not be discouraged, and do not think it’s going to be too long. And do not think, when you dream dreams, that these dreams will never come to fruition. Don’t stop dreaming because, if you stop dreaming, you will dry up. If you just stay in the same place, you’re going to get stuck.”

So the Lord says, “I’m going to get you unstuck, and I’m going to help you move forward. Go back and take your dreams off the shelf. Go back and take those things that you put into the never-gonna-happen box, and some of you have put that in the trash bin. Don’t do that.”  … read more

Jean Vanier dies aged 90

The academic was the founder of of L’Arche, an organisation described as a revolutionary international network of communities where people with and without disabilities live and work together as peers.

“Jean has left an extraordinary legacy,” L’Arche international leader Stephan Posner said in a statement.

“His Community of Trosly, the Communities of L’Arche, Faith and Light, many other movements, and countless thousands of people have cherished his words and benefited from his vision.”

Mr Vanier, who was a Catholic, founded L’Arche in 1964 in response to the treatment that people with learning disabilities faced in institutions.

He spent a lifetime reshaping society’s views on the value of disabled people and was recognised for his work.

In 2015 he was awarded the Templeton Prize, picking up a cheque for £1.1 million.

Shortly after nomination of the prestigious prize, he told Premier how he sees Jesus in the daily life of the community he built: “It’s a question of loving people as they are.

“Not just people with disabilities but also the assistants [L’Arche’s volunteers].

“The whole vision of Jesus is just…

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. — Ephesians 4:32

Unforgiveness, bitterness, resentment, or offense of any kind can render us unable to hear from God. The Word of God is very clear on this subject. If we want God to forgive our sins and offenses against Him, we must forgive others their sins and offenses against us.

Ephesians 4:30–32, the passage that contains our verse for today, teaches that we grieve the Holy Spirit when we harbor negative emotions such as anger, resentment, and animosity in our hearts. When we hold unforgiveness against anyone for any reason, it hardens our hearts and prevents us from being sensitive to God’s leading in our lives.

I once heard someone say that holding unforgiveness is like drinking poison and hoping your enemy will die. Why spend your life being angry and bitter toward someone who is probably enjoying his or her life and does not even care that you are upset?

Do yourself a favor—forgive those who hurt you! Give yourself the gift of forgiveness. It will bring peace to your heart and enable you to hear God’s voice and follow His leading in your life.

Prayer Starter: Father, please forgive me for holding bitterness, resentment and unforgiveness in my heart toward others. Help me to truly forgive those who have hurt me or wronged me in any way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

From Joyce Meyer’s Ministries.
