Sri Lankan Catholics watch mass on TV for second week following Easter Sunday bombings

Cardinal Malcom Ranjith, the archbishop of Colombo, offered a televised Mass from his residence that was attended mostly by priests and nuns.

A letter from Pope Francis addressed to him was read out at the end of the service in which the pontiff said he prayed that “hearts hardened by hatred may yield to His will for peace and reconciliation among all his children”.

At St Anthony’s Shrine in Colombo, one of the sites targeted by Easter suicide bombings that killed 257 people, a Mass was celebrated for a small group of children and youth as a means for inner healing.

Almost all churches remained closed with armed soldiers and police guarding them.

Authorities cancelled Sunday services after reports emerged that a Catholic church and lay institution could be targeted this weekend.

Catholic schools have also been closed until further notice.

However, all government schools are to reopen Monday for grade six and up.

Police have announced they will search the premises of all schools on Sunday.

Joyce Meyer Devotional 5 May 2019 — Let Go of All Anger

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. — Ephesians 4:26-27

Everyone has anger from time to time, and understanding it and knowing how to handle it properly is important. Anger begins as a feeling and then manifests itself in words and actions.

You feel something, and it causes you to do or say something. Anger is not necessarily always sin; however, what you choose to do with anger directly determines your quality of life.

All anger has the same effect on your life. It upsets you, causing you to feel pressure. Keeping anger locked inside can even be dangerous to your health. So, you must take responsibility for your anger and learn to deal with it.

If you struggle with anger, ask God to help you process it and bring it to closure. You can be bitter or better—the choice is yours!

Prayer Starter: Father, You know everything about me. I ask for Your help to recognize and deal with any unresolved anger in my life. Help me to get to the root of the issues and learn to deal with my emotions in a godly way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

From Joyce Meyer’s Ministries.

Topic: You Are Destined For Supernatural Exploits!

Welcome to the month of May! I believe we all had an awesome time in the school of faith all through the month of April, 2019, and I am persuaded that everyone is sure to begin to manifest the same Spirit of faith at work in Jesus all through our adventure in life, in the name of Jesus Christ! Amen! This week, we shall focus on the topic: You Are Destined for Supernatural Exploits!

We understand from scriptures that, everyone born of God is destined for a life of exploits and extraordinary accomplishments. We must understand that living a life of exploits is not the exclusive right of some individuals. We don’t have to be white to experience it as our skin colour is irrelevant to our breakthroughs in life. As long as we are children of God, we are candidates for supernatural exploits! The scripture gives a graphic picture of our glorious destiny in Daniel 11:32: …But the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits. Moreover, we have an extraordinary Father, and as such we are ordained for extraordinary accomplishments. Essentially, we live in a world of times and seasons; our understanding of the times is what keeps us in command (Ecclesiastics 3:1-11; 1 Chronicles 12:32).

Also Read: What is in The Word that Endangers Dominion? By David Oyedepo

We also discover from scriptures that extraordinary exploit is God’s agenda for His people in these end-times, which implies that today, we are in the era of exploits and global impacts in the body of Christ (Isaiah2:1-3; Act 2:17). Therefore, we must make the most of the season. On the other hand, it may interest us to know that our exploits are scripturally rooted in a threefold cord that cannot be easily broken. These are:

1. Our Redemptive Root: We must remind ourselves that supernatural exploit is one of our redemptive rights in Christ and as such this makes us men and women of value. Jesus clearly describes the redeemed as …the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? …Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, …Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven(Mathew 5:13-16). As we all know, salt is always required by men and always sought after because it is a preserver and a sweetener. For the redeemed, we are to operate as the salt of the earth, light of the world and a city set on the hill that cannot be hid. Also, concerning the believer, the Bible says: And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth (Revelation 5:10). This implies that we are redeemed from the back group to the front group, from the valley to the mountaintop, from poverty to plenty, from shame to glory and from slavery to royalty.

2. The Abrahamic Covenant: The second powerful part of the threefold cord for our greatness is rooted in our connection to Abraham. But, what does that covenant entail? In Genesis 17:6-7, God said to Abraham: …I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant. God is saying He will ensure that we become nations or kings because of the Abrahamic blood flowing in us. Thus, it is our covenant right to be kings and this covenant makes us an envy to our world.

3. God’s Prophetic Agenda: Also by prophetic agenda, we are redeemed for the topmost top. In Revelation 22:16, the scripture describes Jesus as the bright and Morning Star. Furthermore, Jesus said: …as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you (John 20:21). This implies that redemption has made us a bright and morning star. By this, we are a born star after the order of Christ. In essence, in these last days, the redeemed of the Lord will be the custodians of the finance, economy as well as science and technology of the world. There will be so much demand on them across nations of the earth because their work will announce them to their world. Thus, they will fulfil God’s prophetic agenda in these last days such that: …ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you (Zechariah 8:23).

In conclusion, having the correct mental picture of our redemption is key to accessing our actual future. If the picture of our heritage of supernatural exploits dawns on us and becomes a way of life, we will become envy to our world. This is why we must be awake to the demands of this great hour of opportunities so as to take full delivery of our greatness. In other words, we must be sensitive to the times and seasons and walk in the understanding of the time set by God. It is only then we can enjoy unusual divine backings, command strange results and become the envy of those who have pitied us in the past. However, to experience a lifestyle of exploits, you need to be born again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again! TOPIC — Jesus: The Good Shepherd

READ: John 10:7-16 New King James Version (NKJV)

7 Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.

9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

12 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them.

13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep.

14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.

15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.

16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.

THE MESSAGE:

Our society today is filled with many hirelings who move about as shepherds; however, they are wolves in sheep’s clothing that devour mercilessly. They own and run Churches and prayer houses in almost every street. However, the foundations of such Churches are very occultic, diabolical and deceptive.

In order to get members, some of them perform fake miracles and do horrible things that are inimical to our faith such as burying human beings at their altars and consulting witches and wizards, magicians and native doctors. Regrettably, some Christians secretly go to them and ultimately get enslaved through false dreams, visions and prophecies that create fears, hatred, and enmity among friends and family members. Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd, the Way, the Truth, the Life and the Resurrection.

He redeemed mankind with His Blood; He knows the sheep and the sheep know Him. He came to give us life, and that, more abundantly (John10:10b). He gave His life for us and He is the only name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12). Therefore, we should not give Satan and his agents any chance to steal, kill and destroy our faith.

Jesus is our Life, chief Shepherd, Shield, Provider, Protector and Shelter; in Him we have our being and lack nothing (Psalm 23:1-2).

Prayer: Dear God, please deliver us from today’s hirelings and wolves in sheep’s clothing in Jesus’ Name.

Take Him At His Word – Rhapsody of Realities 5 May 2019

Rhapsody of Realities 5 May 2019 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome – Take Him At His Word

Topic: Take Him At His Word

As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him (Psalm 18:30).

One of the things that you have to learn to do, as a Christian, is to take God at His Word and act on His Word. There’re lots of Christians who probably have never been taught to do this. Many, somehow, have learnt to disbelieve God from the experience of their environment. We live in a world where we’re exposed to all kinds of materials and information that tend to instill doubt, fear and unbelief.

For example, when children grow up in an environment where people generally don’t keep to their word, it affects their mentality. Imagine a society where politicians are known to make promises which they never keep; such an environment will breed people who find it difficult to trust, and believe anything. People have increasingly lost faith in words; words have increasingly lost meaning, because not many understand the integrity of words.

But it’s not so with God. His Word has integrity. His Word is infallible; you can stake your life on it. He said in Isaiah 55:10-11, “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. ” It makes no difference the crisis you might be facing in life; trust, and act on the Word.

Maybe it’s a health situation; the Word guarantees your divine health. There’s no need to cry and beg God for healing; He already gave you something better than healing—His life in you; Christ in you. That’s your right and assurance for divine health. Romans 8:10 says, “…if Christ is in you, although your body be dead because of sin, the Spirit gives it life because of righteousness.”

Train your spirit to trust God and take Him at His Word. Culture yourself to trust and have faith in God’s Word. Accept that whatever He says is true, and then act accordingly. His Word is tried and absolutely dependable. Heaven and earth shall pass away but no Word from God shall be void of power. So, if you want to enjoy a struggle-free life, learn to trust and take God at His Word.

CONFESSION
The Word of God is my confidence and final authority; therefore, I refuse to be moved by circumstances of life. I have the results that I desire as the Word of God is mixed with faith in my heart and spoken out of my mouth with authority and boldness. Hallelujah!

Matthew 14:29, ‘And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.’

Matthew 14:29

This one word ‘come’ was spoken by the one who made all things (Jn. 1:3) and it had just as much power in it as the words that were spoken at creation. This is where the power came from for Peter to walk on the water. Likewise, any word spoken to us by God carries in itself the anointing and power it takes to fulfill that word, if we will release it by believing it and acting on it.

We need to not only know God’s power, but the greatness of God’s power, and then the exceeding greatness of God’s power. This exceeding greatness of God’s power is towards us. That means that it is for us and our benefit. Some people get glimpses of God’s power, but very few have the revelation that it is for us and at our disposal. It doesn’t do us any good to believe that God has power if we don’t believe that it will work for us. This great power of God is effectual only for those who believe. We must believe to receive, or if we doubt, we do without.

Despite all the criticism that might be leveled at Peter in this instance, he did walk on the water. There were eleven other disciples in the boat and although they clearly saw Jesus and Peter walking on the water, they still did not participate. One of the important steps in receiving a miracle from God is to leave the security of your natural resources (get out of your boat) and put yourself in the position where there has to be a miracle from God to hold you up. God is no respecter of persons (Rom. 2:11). Any of the disciples could have walked on the water, if they would have asked and gotten out of the boat.

TOPIC: Evangelism Best Practices (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 5 May 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 19-20; Luke 23:1-25

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Mark 16:15-18

MEMORY VERSE: “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” – Romans 10:15

The MESSAGE:

Christ’s final instructions before He returned to heaven was the commission for all Christians to go into the world and spread His gospel; teaching men to fear and obey God, healing the sick, bringing men to salvation and preparing all men for His second coming and the kingdom of God. Every Christian knows that it is his duty to evangelise the world. But how successful are you in bringing people to Christ? It is crystal clear that not everybody can be professional evangelists, missionaries or pastors. It is however said that the life of a Christian does a lot more to win or lose people for Christ than anything else; and this applies also to evangelists, missionaries and pastors, because those who cannot read the Bible to learn about Christ should be able to read about Christ through the life of a Christian.

However, if your success rate in attracting non-believers to Christ is unimpressive, then It is time to review your life and see if you are actually putting people off.

Let us look at some of the things that put non-Christians off Christians:

  1. Hypocrisy: Does your life reflect what you teach about Christ? Are you a forgiving person? Does your heart reflect your external ‘holy’ look? Does your dressing show that you belong to Christ? Do you treat your spouse and children, your tenants, your employees with respect?
  2. Judgemental: Non-Christians detest the way Christians treat them with disdain and are so quick to judge. Christ died for them too! The only way you can attract people to God is through showing love and understanding.
  3. Charity: What is your attitude to the less privileged people around – at church, at home, in your place of work or business, on the streets? Christian charity expects that you share what God has given you with those who do not have and extend a helping hand to those who are less able.
  4. The Golden Rule: Do you do unto others how you would want them to do unto you? Christ says we must love our fellow men as ourselves.
  5. Temperamental: Many Christians are short tempered, moody and grumpy, all in an attempt at displaying their ‘holiness’. What does it cost to be respectful and friendly to all?

Beloved, the world is hurting; Jesus depends on you to humbly lead people to Him so that He can give them rest.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
JESUS SAYS HE IS WITH YOU, EVEN TO THE END OF THE WORLD. REJOICE!

PROPHETIC WORD:
Let the power from on high fall on you to do exploits for your God.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. Saviour of the world, I thank You for Your grace upon my life and the salvation of my soul, in the name of Jesus.
  2. My Saviour and Master, help me to be a living example of Your child, in the name of Jesus.
  3. I refuse to be a deficit to heaven, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. Lord Jesus, help me to trustingly lay my burdens (name them) at Your feet, so that my life can be an inspiration to others, in the name of Jesus.
  5. I cling to the cross of Jesus and wash myself in the blood of the Lamb, so that my life can be pure within and without, in the name of Jesus.
  6. Lord Jesus, be my Model in life, so that I may not compromise no matter the cost, in the name of Jesus.
  7. O Lord, make me a source of blessing to my fellow men, in the name of Jesus.

Seeds of Destiny 5 May 2019 Devotional – The Products of God’s Anointing and Power

Topic: The Products of God’s Anointing and Power [Seeds of Destiny 5 May 2019 Devotional]

Click HERE for Previous MESSAGES by Pastor Paul Enenche

The degree of the manifestation of your potential is a function of the level of the anointing on your life.

SCRIPTURE: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Acts 10:38

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The degree of the manifestation of your potential is a function of the level of the anointing on your life.

The Presence of God with a man is called the anointing. An anointed man or woman, therefore, carries the palpable and feelable presence of God.

Also Read: EL-SHADDAI By Pastor Paul Enenche

The anointing of God is a difference maker in life and destiny. The anointing of God is what makes a person to matter on the earth; the anointing is responsible for the colouring of life and destiny. The anointing of God on a person is not for show, but for the manifestations of potentials and gifts (Acts 10:38).

Now, why is it important to understand the products of the anointing? It is because understanding determines manifestation; where your understanding stops, there your manifestation ends.

What are the products of the anointing of God?

Let me give you two of them:

i. The Unveiling of Hidden Gifts and Potentials (Luke 3:21-23).

Jesus Christ had great potentials to perform diverse miracles but for thirty years, the potentials could not see the light of day, until the anointing came upon Him (Luke 3:21-23). Beloved, the degree of the manifestation of your potential is a function of the level of the anointing on your life. Higher anointing will produce higher potential.

ii. The Transformation of Life (1 Samuel 10:6).

The anointing brings about a total transformation of life and destiny. When the anointing came upon Saul for instance, he was transformed into another man and began to prophesy. (1 Samuel 10:6).

Now, what is the secret of experiencing and manifesting the anointing?

One of the secrets is total devotion to God (Mark 12:30). Your love for both God and man must be intact if you must experience and manifest the anointing of God. Your heart for God will give you your part in life.

Therefore, make up your mind to love both God and man unconditionally.

REMEMBER THIS: the degree of the manifestation of your potential is a function of the level of the anointing on your life.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Develop a deep sense of devotion for God and love for mankind.
  2. Ask God to anoint you afresh at the place of prayer

PRAYER: O Lord, I ask that You lay Your Hands upon me. Anoint me afresh for Your glory, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

FOR FURTHER UNDERSTANDING, GET THIS MESSAGE: THE PRODUCTS OF GOD’S ANOINTING AND POWER

QUOTE: If you will do for God what you can do for Him, then He will do for you what you cannot do for yourself. Culled from ALABASTER BOX by Dr Becky Paul-Enenche

DAILY READING: Judges 21:1 to Ruth 1:22, John 4:4 to 42, Psalm 105:1 to 15, Proverbs 14:25

AMAZING FACT: Approximately, one person in every three people has an ‘A positive’ blood type.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION/WORD: I prophesy the release of fresh oil upon your life today in Jesus’ Name.

Today’s devotional was written by Pastor Paul Enenche of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC), headquartered at Abuja, Nigeria, with Pastor Paul and Becky Enenche, as the Senior Pastors. Topic: Watch That Greed! [DCLM Daily Manna 5 May 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Luke 12:13-31 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of coveteousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12:15).

MESSAGE:

Have you ever seen a bird worry about who would pay the rent or mortgage on its nest? Birds do not worry or fret because they have absolute trust in God for their safety and survival. When some concerned persons declare these days that the world has taken hold of the church, they simply mean that such traits as greed and rabid pursuit of fame and wealth, practices of the unregenerate, are now identified with many so-called believers.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the text describes these evils as covetousness and says we should “Take heed” and shun them because “man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”

The Lord firmly denounced covetous living. Many in the church today ask for the shadow instead of the substance in the quest for God’s blessings. Christ illustrated the foolish man who laboured much for earthly inheritance without giving much time for God, only to lose his life and the materials heaped up. Consider the plight of ravens and lilies that God readily provides for and take it to heart that those who are God’s crown of creation are of greater value than ravens or lilies. He therefore urged us to reorder our priorities: the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness first and the appropriation of other things will then follow.

Many people are willing to die to attain fame, success and power. In their imagination, success is defined in terms of material acquisition. They eventually die leaving whatever they gained behind and needlessly fall into the inferno of eternal horror. Believers should take a cue from the Lord’s admonition. If you have ruined your life because of the frenetic greed for material acquisition, retrace your steps and make the pursuit of the kingdom of God and His righteousness your utmost priority.

Thought For The Day: Foolishness is contained in making money an idol.
