Christian doctor swaps beach break for a leprosy hospital

Whilst her friends headed for the beaches of New Zealand, 24 year old Jess Perry felt called to treat sufferers of the disease at the Nepalese Hospital Anandaban.

Perry said “Currently, one person every two minutes is diagnosed with leprosy. That needs to change.”

Left untreated, leprosy causes progressive and permanent damage to the skin, nerves, limbs and even blindness.

As part of The Leprosy Mission’s ‘Heal Nepal’ campaign, Doctor Perry, currently a junior doctor at Glangwili General Hospital in Carmarthen, south Wales, ran free clinics for sufferers of the bacterial infection.

“The prejudice, myths and fears surrounding leprosy are truly heart-breaking. The stigma is so great that people with symptoms tend to avoid seeking treatment because they don’t want to be diagnosed.

“It’s frustrating because it is easily treatable with a course of antibiotics – and the earlier you come, the better the outcome.”

She said: “God clearly told me he wanted me to be a doctor but not coming from an affluent area and from a family where nobody had been to university before, it seemed quite an ambition. There were many times when I doubted I could or should continue with medicine.

“My faith also helped me through medical school when you see, for the first time, so many patients getting horrible diagnoses. The world is really rubbish sometimes but it’s a temporary thing. We…

Matthew 9:38, ‘Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.’

Matthew 9:35-38, 13:53-58, Mark 6:1-6

People are born again through the power of the Word of God, not through prayer. Prayer is very important, but it is not a substitute for the Gospel.

Many people petition God for someone to be saved and can’t understand why it hasn’t happened yet. We don’t have to ask the Lord to save anyone. He isn’t willing that anyone should perish. He has already made provision for everyone’s salvation.

So what do we pray concerning someone coming to the Lord? Jesus said to pray that the Lord send laborers across their path. They need to hear the Word. Also, we should bind the influence of the god of this world (Satan) who tries to blind them to spiritual truth (II Cor. 4:4).

God is more motivated to save our loved ones than we are. We don’t need to plead with Him, but rather we need to become a channel for Him to flow through to reach that person. We do that by sharing the good news (Gospel) with them and/or praying that others will come across their path who will do the same.

The Gospel is the power of God that releases the effects of salvation in our lives (Rom. 1:16). If a person needs healing, it’s in the Gospel. If deliverance is needed, it’s in the Gospel. Prosperity, answered prayer, joy, peace, love – they are all found through understanding and believing the Gospel.

The Gospel is the good news that although we are sinners and worthy of God’s wrath, God, in love, sent His Son to be our substitute, bearing our punishment, so that we could be made completely righteous in His sight. It’s based only on our faith in this completed work of Christ and not our own performance. Now that’s GOOD NEWS!

We . . . offer our sacrifice of praise to God by telling others of the glory of his name. — Hebrews 13:15 (TLB)

Jesus knew that one of the real tests of our yieldedness to God is our willingness to share with others. If we have no mercy toward others that is one proof that we have never experienced God’s mercy. Emerson must have been reading the gauge of human mercy when he said, “What you are speaks so loud that I cannot hear what you say.” Satan does not care how much you theorize about Christianity, or how much you profess to know Christ. What he opposes vigorously is the way you live Christ.

Some time ago a lady wrote and said, “I am 65 years old. My children are all married, my husband is dead, and I am one of the loneliest people in all the world.” It was suggested to her that she find a way of sharing her religious faith and her material goods with those around her. She wrote a few weeks later and said, “I am the happiest woman in town. I have found a new joy and happiness in sharing with others.” That’s exactly what Jesus promised!

Prayer for the day: There is no greater joy, Father, than sharing Your love. Help me to convey this in all my dealings with others.

Written by Billy Graham, Founder of Billy Graham Evangelistic Association(BGEA). BGEA exists to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ by every effective means and to equip the church and others to do the same.

Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu Wants to Name Golan Heights Settlement to Honor Donald Trump

Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu Wants to Name Golan Heights Settlement to Honor Donald Trump

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he wants to name a new settlement in Golan Heights in honor of President Donald Trump to thank the U.S. for its support.

Netanyahu was touring the settlement this week when he said he would propose a resolution to name a new community after Trump.

“All Israelis were deeply moved when President Trump made his historic decision to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights,” Netanyahu said in a video released this week.

The announcement comes after Trump officially recognized Israeli sovereignty over the territory the country captured from Syria in 1967.

“Any possible future peace agreement in the region must account for Israel’s need to protect itself from Syria and other regional threats,” the Trump’s proclamation said. “Based on these unique circumstances, it is therefore appropriate to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.”

According to the Christian Post, at the signing of the proclamation in March Netanyahu said that Israel has “never had a better friend” than Trump.

The regional council governing Golan Heights also released a statement to the New York Times about Netanyahu’s proposal, saying the naming “complements the aspiration and the goal we have set to double the number of residents of the Golan with a decade.”

Police urge as many churches as possible to take offer of free terrorist response training

Counter terrorism policing are urging as many places of worship as possible to sign up to a free online course about terrorism safety called ‘ACT awareness’ (Action Counters Terrorism).

Nick Aldworth, a Chief Super Intendent and the National Coordinator for the ‘Protect and Prepare’ programme, told Premier: “We now have an opportunity to broaden our reach and to provide a service to faith establishments that perhaps we haven’t necessarily been able to push before.

“ACT awareness e-learning is an online product that we can make available to faith establishments to help both those who run the establishment but also those who worship at them, to understand what terrorism is and how to prepare for it and, I hope it doesn’t happen, but how to respond to it if it does happen.”

“I think it’s very important for me to say that, you know, there is no reason to believe that a faith community in the UK will be attacked but, you know what, it’s really important in this day and age that everybody understands what they need to be prepared for.”

The course teaches those who sign up about current methodology of terrorism, how to mitigate against it and to understand how terrorists often operate.

The modules available are:

  1. Introduction to Terrorism
  2. Identifying Security Vulnerabilities
  3. How to Identify and Respond to Suspicious Behaviour
  4. How to Identify and Deal with a Suspicious…

Forever In His Presence – Rhapsody of Realities 25 April 2019

Topic: Forever In His Presence

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16).

Oftentimes, there’re Christians who, when they come to church, would say, “Lord, we’ve come into your presence today.” And when they leave, they feel they’ve left the presence of God. Some even pray for the presence of God to come down or follow them everywhere. But as a child of God, you don’t “come” into God’s presence nor go from it; you’re forever in His presence.

When you come into a place, no matter where it is, you come in, and with, God’s presence. You bear His presence. You’re the temple of the living God, who dwells in you by the Holy Spirit. When you were born again, Christ took up His abode in the quarters of your heart. He’s in you now, and you’re in Him. He didn’t come into you to leave again after some time; He’s forever in you.

Read the words of Jesus in Matthew 28:20; He said, “…lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” This was before the Holy Spirit came to take up His abode in the quarters of our hearts. He had said concerning the Holy Spirit in John 14:17, “…ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” It’s an everlasting indwelling. The Spirit of God dwells in you, and He’s the conveyor of the presence and blessings of God, and all that’s been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Have the consciousness that you’re a God-carrying vessel, and you live in His presence every day. This is what it means to be in Christ. You’re in the divine environment; the environment of His glory and divine essence. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION
I’m in Christ, and Christ is in me; what a union; and what a place to be! He’s graced my life with His glory, with His presence, and with Himself! In Him I live, and move, and have my being. What a blessing to be, not just a God-carrying vessel, but also the conveyor and dispenser of His divine presence. Hallelujah!

Mick Mulvaney: Faith Is Driving Many Trump Administration Policies

Mick Mulvaney: Faith Is Driving Many Trump Administration Policies

WASHINGTON (RNS) — White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney declared at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast on Tuesday (April 23) that faith drives the Trump administration’s policy proposals, arguing that “the principles of our faith (are) being manifest” under the president’s watch.

Also in attendance at the breakfast — a largely conservative religious gathering that meets annually in Washington — were two deputy assistants to President Trump, United States Ambassador for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback and Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey.

Mulvaney, who is Catholic, opened his talk with an anecdote about speaking several years ago at a prayer breakfast in his home state of South Carolina at the invitation of then-Sen. Jim DeMint. Mulvaney explained that as a novice to prayer breakfasts, he inadvertently chose to read a passage from the Gospel of Matthew in which Jesus encourages believers to pray in private, not in public. He said a priest later interpreted the passage for him, arguing it does not bar public prayer but is part of Jesus’ call to do “the opposite of what is popular.”

The Trump administration’s policy agenda, Mulvaney suggested, constitutes just that sort of unpopular but faithful action.

“The president has allowed us, Christians of all denominations, folks from all different faiths … to be very vocal about their…

Mountain climbers rush to protect Notre Dame from rain

The team was appointed by the man in charge of a restoration of the Paris landmark after it was ravaged by fire last Monday.

Philippe Villeneuve told the BFM television station said: “The highest priority is to protect the cathedral from the rain to come.

Work to install temporary tarpaulin over the building started on Tuesday. The Met Office has predicted heavy rainfall in the French capital during Wednesday and Thursday.

According to Patrick Chauvet, the rector of Notre Dame, the gothic attraction is not expected to reopen to visitors for five or six years.

But French president Emmanuel Macron has pledged to project to be completed sooner – within five years.

Investigators believe the blaze was an accident. One possibility is that it was linked to renovation work on the site.

Nearly £1 billion has been pledged by donors to rebuild the cathedral. Its roof was destroyed in the fire.

On Monday, approximately 50 people from a French homeless association protested outside, holding placards which read “one billion in 24 hours”.

Some chanted: “Notre Dame needs a roof, we need a roof too.”

Beauty by Joy Stephens

Topic: Beauty

We would always find it difficult to ignore beauty when we find one especially when it delights the aesthetic senses. Every time the eyes sights beauty even where it tries to ignore the amazing sight the hearts is always determined to appreciate it.

There is often a debate as to whether beauty is inward or outward. Beauty surpasses just facial appearances but also includes awesome qualities in a person, it is then save to believe that beauty is both inward and outward. Being beautiful is majorly associated with ladies however the word has over the years been abused. Every woman is beautiful, although the comparison with certain factors usually uphold the differences. Beauty must be birthed from within and spring forth to radiate on the outside. A beautiful face becomes so vain and is a mirage when accompanied with bad characters and attitudes. Proverbs 31:30.

Its popularly said that certain ladies have beauty without brains. In my opinion that situation can be compared to physical death. Its also liken to been very hungry and lifting up your head you sight a beautiful restaurant , fantastic paintings and taking a walk to the pleasant environment covered with splendid flowers entering into the restaurant you perceive stupendous aroma of a nice meal only to be served with rotten food. The disappointment of the consumer or customer would know no bounds but would be better left unsaid.

In your strife to wear nice make ups, fabulous hair and exceptional dresses acquire the relevant knowledge to stand the test of time. For every monthly visit to the saloon get a new book with a reading attitude and culture, improve on the right qualities on the inside of you. The world at large lie in wait for a different lady not necessary with a beautiful make up or a different hair style but with an amazing and exceptional quality to dazzle her world. A lady with apparently no make-up on in a particular function can become the centre of attraction after exhibiting qualities beyond her level of influence. Sometimes we have to put the wigs down, close the make-up kits and concentrate on building our minds and tasking our brains to produce a lasting solutions to world’s problems.

Facial beauty would always deteriorate rapidly as we age notwithstanding the increase in scientific technologies and advancement but the inward beauty of a woman that fears the Lord shall always be relevant at all times.

9 Encouragements for Pastors Who Want to Quit

9 Encouragements for Pastors Who Want to Quit

  1. Many storms pass quickly.
  2. It’s probably not you.
  3. The vast majority of the congregation supports you.
  4. Remember your call.
  5. Longer-term pastors see better days.
  6. Hurting church members often hurt others.
  7. It’s not better in other churches.
  8. The changing culture frustrates many church members.
  9. God is with you.

Some highlights from today’s Rainer Report:

  • It is rare that a “storm” hangs over a church indefinitely. What may seem like a storm today may be just a blip in a few weeks.
  • If you are called to vocational ministry, you need to realize it will be messy at times.
  • It is normal for pastors to want to quit at times, but remember He who called you will sustain you.
  • It takes time for fruit to grow in ministry. To see fruit, you have to stick around.
