U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar Calls Trump’s Jewish Advisor a ‘White Nationalist’

U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar Calls Trump’s Jewish Advisor a ‘White Nationalist’

U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar is under fire again, this time for calling President Trump’s adviser Stephen Miller – a Jewish man – a “white nationalist.”

According to USA Today, Omar took to Twitter on Monday to voice her opinion on if Miller should have a say in regard to policy.

Omar wrote, “Stephen Miller is a white nationalist. The fact that he still has influence on policy and political appointments is an outrage.”

The freshman representative also attached an article from SplinterNews.com to her tweet which outrightly calls Miller a “white nationalist.” The article blames Miller for President Trump withdrawing Ronald Vitiello’s nomination for the head of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency so that the administration could take ICE in a “tougher direction.”

Omar’s tweet was not on the internet long before attracting the attention of news outlets, constituents, and fellow legislators.

Kyle Morris of Breitbart News commented on the Tweet noting, “You do know he’s Jewish, right?”

Donald Trump, Jr. also chimed in writing,…

2020 declared ‘Year of Youth’ in Pakistan Catholic Church

Pakistan is regularly criticised for high levels of persecution against believers and was recently the centre of the Asia Bibi case, where a Catholic woman remains in the country after being acquitted of blasphemy.

Sebastian Francis Shah, Catholic Archbishop of Lahore in Pakistan, told Premier the Church realised last year that it was important to concentrate on the future generation.

Speaking during News Hour, he said: “A big need was felt to listen to them so that we may understand our youth, their ideas, their thoughts and also understand their feelings.”

The Youth Commission of the Pakistan Catholic Bishops held a meeting in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Karachi, on 4th April to decide upon the theme.

The bishops have formed an ad hoc committee to plan and oversee the various initiatives of the ‘Year of Youth’, which will begin with the feast of Christ the King in 2019 and will close on the same feast day in 2020.

Bishop Samson Shukardin of Hyderabad said in a statement: “The Year of Youth in Pakistan will be a time to nourish our future, to take care of young people, to listen to them and to accompany them on their journey of faith and to grow in holiness.”

Listen to Premier’s Alex Williams speaking with the Archbishop of Lahore in Pakistan:

Virginia’s Tony Bennett Says Christian Song ‘Hills and Valleys’ Inspired Team’s Title Run

Virginia’s Tony Bennett Says Christian Song ‘Hills and Valleys’ Inspired Team’s Title Run

Virginia coach Tony Bennett led the school to its first-ever national championship Monday night, but he didn’t want the credit.

He thanked his players. He thanked his family. And he thanked God. He even credited a contemporary Christian song for inspiring the team.

The Cavaliers defeated Texas Tech 85-77 in overtime in the NCAA men’s basketball championship, completing an improbable run that saw them win their last three games in nail-biting fashion.

“I played a song for them today called Hills and Valleys by Tauren Wells, and it just means that you’re never alone in the hills or the valleys,” Bennett said during a post-game CBS interview. “And we’ve faced those from last year to this year, but the credit goes to these young men. And I can’t wait to celebrate with my wife and my kids and my parents. I do want to thank the Lord and my Savior.”

Bennett is an outspoken Christian who nearly became a pastor before going into coaching. He has built Virginia into a national powerhouse, although the Cavaliers needed near-miraculous finishes in their last three games. On Monday, a late three-pointer by De’Andre Hunter forced overtime. In the semifinals, they needed three free throws by Kyle Guy with less than one second left to edge Auburn. In the Elite Eight, Virginia would have lost if not for a buzzer-beating shot by Mamadi…

Pastor and leaders of pro-democracy protests found guilty

Those convicted on Tuesday included pastor Chu Yiu-ming, law professor Benny Tai, and retired sociology professor Chan Kin-man.

Two current lawmakers, one former lawmaker, two student leaders and a political activist were also found guilty.

They were leaders of the “Occupy Central” campaign to demand the right of the semi-autonomous Chinese city’s population to choose its own leader.

“Hong Kong courts, by labelling peaceful protests in pursuit of rights as public nuisance, are sending a terrible message that will likely embolden the government to prosecute more peaceful activists, further chilling free expression in Hong Kong,” Maya Wang, senior China researcher at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement.

Prior to the verdict’s announcement, Mr Chan said he and the others had no regrets for their actions but were chiefly concerned with the movement’s legacy.

While the verdicts will have an impact on the individuals, “we are more concerned about how this movement will be recognised by the people of Hong Kong,” Mr Chan said.

Hong Kong’s biggest popular protest in recent years, also known as the Umbrella Movement, laid siege to government headquarters and paralysed the financial district for 79 days.

Thousands staked out encampments on major thoroughfares. Several hundred were arrested.

The movement fizzled without…

A Lesson for Conservatives and .tics

Is a Picture Worth a Thousand Words?: A Lesson for Conservatives and .tics

I was recently asked for my take on the controversy surrounding Francis Chan speaking at what some call “questionable events.” I took time to pray while driving three hours to one of these events to meet Francis and hear him speak. When I posted the picture on my Facebook page, it created quite a firestorm, branding me as heretical, ecumenical, and part of the NAR (I don’t even know what that is unless they meant the NRA). The irony is that nothing could be further from the truth; listen to the controversial sermon here beginning at the 18-minute mark and judge for yourself.

My ministry allows me to meet many different Christians. Last week I attended the National Religious Broadcasters event, was invited to Fox News studios in Los Angeles just days later, and worked with Pure Flix’s Billy Hallowell on the new series After Columbine earlier in the month and was able to chat with Ray Comfort before filming. My schedule provides many opportunities for me to observe what’s going on in American Christianity.

When I met Francis backstage, I found him to be very humble and eager to listen as we talked about these issues. True to form, he also delivered a powerful message on repentance. Isn’t that our goal as preachers? The event moved me deeply during worship, and I had the opportunity to meet some of the other speakers such as Corey Russell and…

Christian groups attack ‘no-reason’ divorces, accused ministers of undermining marriage

Under proposed new divorce legislation unveiled by Justice Secretary David Gauke, a husband or wife only needs to declare that a relationship is irretrievably breakdown. They would not need to provide evidence.

The right of a spouse to contest a divorce would be removed. It has been used in approximately two per cent of cases.

Jonathan Williams from Christian Action, Research and Education (CARE) said: “The Government’s proposals to make divorce easier are incredibly misguided and will undermine marriage.

“If you make it easier to get a divorce, it is inevitable that the divorce rate will go up.

“Today, the Government is putting forward a view of marriage that prioritises individual freedom, rather than encouraging sacrifice and commitment.”

Under the current Matrimonial Causes Act 1973, couples seeking a divorce could seek one if one partner is shown to be at fault through adultery, desertion or unreasonable behaviour.

Alternatively, if both parties agree to divorce but blame is not apportioned, a divorce could be granted after they…

Instagram Account Calls Out Pastors Who Wear Expensive Shoes

Instagram Account Calls Out Pastors Who Wear Expensive Shoes

Should pastors wear expensive clothing? A new Instagram account has brought national attention to the question, ruffling the feathers of high-profile pastors along the way.

A man who identifies himself as Tyler started the account, PreachersNSneakers two weeks ago. In each post, he pairs a picture of a pastor posted on social media with a screenshot of the price of the shoes he is wearing. Some of the price tags have topped out over $1,000, igniting a debate about pastors’ pay and whether a pastor should dress in clothes members could never afford.

The account created a stir, amassing over 80,000 followers in the first two weeks and has been featured in stories on Buzzfeed and Fashionista.

Tyler told Fashionista about the origin of the account. He explained that he is an evangelical Christian whose wife works for a church and that he has also been “really into buying and reselling sneakers.” He said he was looking for a song by Elevation Worship one Sunday and a noticed the lead singer was wearing a pair of Yeezy 750s, which go for around $800 on resell sites.

This led him to look at photos of Elevation’s pastor, Steven Furtick. He found a picture of Furtick wearing a rare pair of Jordans that resell for $900. Then he looked up other influential pastors and noticing that they were wearing high-end clothing and “the highest resell kicks in the game.” He made…

Six Risks I Took As a Pastor (Including Some That Failed Miserably)

Podcast Episode #526

Taking risks is part of leadership. Today we discuss a few risks taken during my ministry and how some worked and how some didn’t.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • Even if an idea is good, if it’s an unfamiliar idea to a church it may not gain support because “we’ve never done it that way before.”
  • When the newness of something wears off, the challenge of “making it work” begins.
  • Don’t just fill staff vacancies like they’ve always been filled. Staff to the current and future needs of the church when an opening comes.
  • Sometimes risks are steps of faith. Sometimes they are acts of stupidity.

The six risks we discuss are:

  1. Hiring a staff pastor without the funds
  2. Attempting to buy an entire church facility from another church.
  3. Going multi-site before multi-site was cool.
  4. Having a combination meal and worship service.
  5. Hiring a staff member with dual responsibilities of groups and evangelism.
  6. Getting a new Christian to lead the welcome ministry.

The elections in Israel: Why don’t the Jews accept Jesus as their Messiah?

In America, many of us are sleep deprived after watching Virginia defeat Texas Tech in overtime last night. Meanwhile, much of the world is focused on Israel, where one of the most significant elections in years is taking place.

I have led approximately thirty study tours to Israel over the years. Each time, the two most common questions I’m asked are: “Why don’t the Jews accept Jesus as their Messiah?” and “How does the Israeli government work?”

The two questions are more related than one might think.

Since Israelis are voting today in parliamentary elections, we’ll address the second question first. Here’s the process:

Fourteen parties are vying for votes. Citizens vote for parties, not people. At stake is control of the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament) and its 120 seats. The more votes a party receives, the more seats it wins.

No party has ever won a sixty-one-seat majority. After today’s vote, the president of Israel (a largely ceremonial position) will invite one party’s leader to form a governing coalition with other parties. That person will have twenty-eight days to form a government, with a possible fourteen-day extension.

The president selects the leader who, in his opinion, has the best chance of forming a multi-party coalition to reach sixty-one Knesset seats. This is usually the leader of the party that received the most votes in the election, but not always.

If that leader is successful, he or she becomes the prime minister of the country. If not, the president invites a different candidate to form a governing coalition.

Making history in three ways

Today’s election is historic for three reasons.

One: If Benjamin Netanyahu is reelected, he will become the longest-serving prime minister in Israeli history.

Two: Mr. Netanyahu is facing the possibility of indictment later this year on corruption charges. He would be the first prime minister to face trial while in office. He…
