Failed asylum seeker who killed wife when she converted to Christianity jailed for life

Dana Abdullah stabbed Avan Najmadiein 50 times last October.

Before the attack, he discovered the 32-year-old mother-of-four children under the age of eight, had refused to support his application to remain in the UK.

Wilson Chowdhry, chairman of the British Pakistani Christian Association told Premier there are countless people in the UK who can relate with this story.

Speaking during Premier’s News Hour, he said: “We recently wrote a report for the hate crime inquiry on Islamophobia so that we could show the other side of the coin, where much of the persecution of apostates in this country is based on a real hatred for those who quit Islam.

“And if you think of Nissar Hussain who suffered 17 years of persecution, where he had his car smashed at least six times a year, which amounted to thousands of pounds.

“The house next door to him burned down in an attempt to burn him out of his house also. And also he was beaten so badly that he was hospitalised for 14 days.

“The poor man had to escape with a four police car entourage away from Bradford to a place of safety. It really is an atrocious situation.

Abdullah had previously been deported after being convicted for a child sex offence.

After killing his estranged wife, he handed himself into a police station after the attack, but only to admit being a “failed asylum seeker”.

Stafford Crown Court heard Abdullah had…

Nine Thoughts on Church Splits – Rainer on Leadership #525

Podcast Episode #525

Church splits aren’t quite as prominent as they used to be, but they can still be a problem for some churches. Today, we discuss nine reasons for them.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • Churches that split are more likely to die than those who don’t because of the negativity that comes along with the split.
  • If someone has been part of several church splits, it’s likely they could be part of the problem.
  • “Inactive church member” is an oxymoron.
  • An entitlement mentality is almost always found in churches that split.

The nine points we discuss are:

  1. A church that has split is likely to die.
  2. The negative community impact of a church split is great and enduring.
  3. The majority of church splits focus on the pastor.
  4. Church splits typically originate from power groups in the church.
  5. Some church members have actually been a part of several church splits.
  6. Church splits are typically preceded by inactive church members becoming active members.
  7. Church splits are more likely to occur in “country club” churches.
  8. Some churches still split over doctrinal issues.
  9. Some churches still split over financial issues.

Atheist Group Threatens Suit over Mississippi ‘In God We Trust’ License Plates

Atheist Group Threatens Suit over Mississippi ‘In God We Trust’ License Plates

A national atheist group is threatening to sue the state of Mississippi over a new law that makes license plates declaring “In God We Trust” the default plates in the state.

The American Humanist Association’s legal center sent a letter April 4 to the attorney general and the commissioner of the department of revenue, saying atheists and humanists should not have to purchase a specialty plate in order to avoid conveying the message.

Unlike other states which offer only a specialty “In God We Trust” license plate, Mississippi’s plate is standard and issued to every driver.

“We hereby demand written assurances that steps will be taken so that Mississippi drivers can, without paying any additional charge, display a state-issued license plate that does not make a theistic affirmation,” the letter says.

Ideally, the letter says, that would include a new plate design for the entire state. Alternatively, though, a neutral plate should be made available to those who desire it.

“Mississippi’s law violates the First Amendment rights of atheists in accordance with firmly settled Supreme Court precedent,” said Monica Miller, American Humanist Association senior counsel. “The Supreme Court has made clear that the state cannot force motorists to display an ideological message they deem unacceptable on their license…

Israeli Archaeologists Uncover Town Connected to Abraham – Urban Christian News

Israeli Archaeologists have uncovered an ancient Second Temple-period settlement linked to Abraham. The find, in the city of Beersheva, revealed a rare lamp chard with a nine-branch menorah, one of the earliest ever discovered. Other artifacts include limestone vessels used for purity rituals, bronze coins, a watchtower, and underground tunnels used by Jewish rebels.

The site was uncovered while construction was underway for a new neighborhood in the southern border of what was the Kingdom of Judah.

Archaeologists are particularly interested in the remnants of the oil lamp.

“This is probably one of the earliest artistic depictions of a nine-branched menorah yet discovered,” excavators Dr. Peter Fabian of the Ben-Gurion University in the Negev and Dr. Daniel Varga of the Israel Antiquities Authority, said.

According to Israel Today, the archaeologists noted that of the few lamps found featuring a menorah none are seven-branched, likely in keeping with a Babylonian Talmud ruling that only the menorah in the Temple could have seven branches. Lamps for domestic use have between eight to eleven branches.

Two new TV series about Jesus: Why is Christ more popular than the church?

STILL: THE CHOSEN

Jesus is a television star once again.

Jesus: His Life is airing on the History Channel through Easter. According to the show’s website, “the series interviews and consulted with a diverse group of scholars, faith leaders and theologians from across the ideological spectrum.” It views Jesus “through a unique lens: the people in his life who were closest to him.”

Meanwhile, The Chosen will debut online April 15. According to Christianity Today, it “will reimagine the radical ministry of Christ upending societal norms in a multi-season show.” The series is intended to be “faithful to the biblical text while gritty in tone.”

Jesus is clearly popular in our culture. Barna research reports that 73 percent of Americans identify as Christians. According to Gallup, that’s far higher than the percentage of Americans who identify as Republicans (26 percent) or Democrats (30 percent). Census data shows that Christians outnumber any racial demographic in our country.

However, while nearly three in four Americans say they are Christians, Barna reports that only 55 percent attended a church service in the last six months. Other studies show that only 23 to 25 percent of us attend three Sundays out of eight.

Clearly, Jesus is more popular than the church today. What can you and I do about this?

Why do we need bold humility?

As I noted yesterday, the need of our day is for Christians to manifest boldness with humility. Why are both essential in our post-Christian (or at least post-church) culture?

The more people reject Christian truth, the more they need to hear it. The sicker the patient, the more he or she needs a doctor.

That’s why we must use our influence to speak biblical truth in every way we can. Every non-Christian we meet is someone whose soul is in eternal peril. Many Americans have not heard biblical answers to cultural…

Pope hails Morocco’s work on religious tolerance during visit

King Mohamed VI welcomed Francis as he arrived in Rabat during an unusual rainstorm and began a 27-hour visit aimed at boosting Christian-Muslim ties and showing solidarity with Morocco’s ever-growing migrant community.

Morocco last year became the main destination for sub-Saharan African migrants seeking to reach Europe via Spain. The influx has strained the kingdom’s resources and fuelled anti-migrant sentiment in Spain.

After an airport greeting, the two leaders took separate vehicles – Francis in his pope-mobile and the king in a Mercedes with a retracted roof – and paraded in tandem into town for a formal welcome ceremony at the Hassan Tower complex, where two of Morocco’s past monarchs are buried.

Francis told the king that he hopes Morocco will continue to be a model of humanity, welcome and protection for migrants.

He said: “The issue of migration will never be resolved by raising barriers, fomenting fear of others or denying assistance to those who legitimately aspire to a better life for themselves and their families.”

He called for a change of attitude towards migrants that respects them as people, worthy of dignity and rights, and not just statistics.

He said world leaders must address the economic imbalances and unrest on Earth that fuel conflicts and migration flows.

“Today’s grave migration crisis…

Faith and Civil Rights Groups Ask for FBI Meeting on White Nationalism

Faith and Civil Rights Groups Ask for FBI Meeting on White Nationalism

(RNS) — A coalition of faith groups and civil rights organizations is asking to meet with the director of the FBI, arguing that after a string of attacks on houses of worship in recent years, the agency should focus on the threat of white nationalism.

The coalition, which includes Muslim Advocates, the Union for Reform Judaism, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and the Sikh Coalition, sent a letter March 19 to FBI Director Christopher Wray requesting a meeting on the topic.

“We, the undersigned national civil rights and faith-based leaders, write to express our deep concern regarding recent attacks against our houses of worship and communities,” they wrote. “We request an urgent meeting with you to discuss the role of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in addressing the threat to public safety and our communities by white nationalist violence.”

The authors referenced several mass shootings recently perpetrated in houses of worship. The suspects in those attacks — or those convicted in the attacks — are believed to have either espoused or been associated with white nationalist ideology. These attacks include the 2012 shooting at a Sikh gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wis., that left six dead; the 2015 shooting deaths of nine black worshippers at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C.; the 2018…

DCLM Daily Manna 1 April 2019 – Wisdom in Reverence for God

Topic: Wisdom in Reverence for God [DCLM Daily Manna 1 April 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Psalms 111:1-10 (KJV)

Key Verse: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever” (Psalms 111:10).

MESSAGE:

Many people assume they can become wise by experiences, academic attainment and acquisition of riches without admitting God as their Guide. This however, is mere folly and futility.

The Psalmist declares his own intention to acknowledge and praise the Lord with the whole of his heart, considering the works of His hands, His righteousness, covenant, power, compassion, judgment and commandment. His ways are so great, glorious, wonderful, everlasting, sure and upright. He sent redemption to the Israelites from the slavery of Egypt and the captivity of Babylon as well as to all humanity from the slavery of sin through His Son Jesus Christ.

The works of the Lord for His children have always been wondrous and unfathomable. Many of such works are recorded in the Scriptures: the creation of heaven and earth, the parting of the Red Sea and river Jordan, the collapse of Jericho wall, the supernatural miracle working power of Christ, to mention a few. So many have been wrought in our dispensation to inspire us to praise the Lord and reverence His great name. This culminated in the conclusion drawn by the psalmist that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

As Christians, how do you measure wisdom? Is it by worldly standards that result in foolish choices? To attain wisdom is by no other means but by the fear of the Lord. And this demands that we honour God in all humility and worship Him for His wondrous works. We must always remember that the foundation for true wisdom is to recognise God as the Source of wisdom. Ask God for grace to always reverence and praise Him as you behold the glory and splendour of His wonder.

Thought For The Day: Reverence for God is the path to wisdom.
