DCLM Daily Manna 7 March 2019 – Conquering The Mighty

Topic: Conquering The Mighty [DCLM Daily Manna 7 March 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Judges 8:4-21 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host” (Judges 8:12).

MESSAGE:

The children of Israel, in their usual manner, had sinned against God and He sold them into the hands of the Midianites who mightily oppressed them for seven years. But when they repented and cried unto the Lord, He raised up Gideon as a leader and judge to destroy the Midianites. And to make it clear that the battle was God’s, He gave him only 300 men to go to that battle. In our text, we see Gideon and his men in hot pursuit of the fleeing Midianites; “faint, yet pursuing them”.

Even the refusal of the men of Succoth and Penuel to give assistance of food to his hungry soldiers could not deter him from pursuing the two kings of Midian until they were captured and executed in addition to over one hundred and twenty thousand Midianites earlier destroyed.

The Christian life is full of battles. Satan had drawn his sword against the children of Adam especially those who have pledged their loyalty to the second Adam. His relentless onslaught against the Church of Christ is a reality that no true Christian should take for granted. As soon as someone renounce his sins and turns his life to Christ, he becomes a primary target of the enemy. But the truth is that the Christian needs not panic because Christ, “the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed…” Like Gideon, the believer must continue in the good fight of faith “till every foe is vanquished”. To retreat or surrender can never be an option, as he keeps pressing “toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”.

There is the need to stand on God’s unfailing promises in the face of all odds. Having received the authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, the Christian must live his life in daily victory over sin, Satan and the world.

Thought For The Day: Calvary guarantees the believer’s victory.

Our Daily Bread 7 March 2019 Devotional – Escaping the Noise

Topic: Escaping the Noise [Our Daily Bread 7 March 2019 Devotional]

Bible in a Year: Deuteronomy 3–4; Mark 10:32–52

After the fire came a gentle whisper. – 1 Kings 19:12

Today’s Scripture & Insight: 1 Kings 19:9-13

Several years ago, the president of a college suggested that students join her in “powering down” for an evening. Although the students agreed, it was with great reluctance that they laid aside their cell phones and entered the chapel. For the next hour, they sat quietly in a service of music and prayer. Afterward, one participant described the experience as “a wonderful opportunity to calm down . . . a place to just tune out all of the extra noise.”

Sometimes, it’s difficult to escape “extra noise.” The clamor of both our external and internal worlds can be deafening. But when we’re willing to “power down,” we begin to understand the psalmist’s reminder of the necessity to be still so we can know God (Psalm 46:10). In 1 Kings 19, we discover as well that when the prophet Elijah looked for the Lord, he didn’t find Him in the pandemonium of the wind or the earthquake or the fire (vv. 9–13). Instead, Elijah heard God’s gentle whisper (v. 12).

Extra noise is practically guaranteed during celebrations. When families and friends come together, it’s likely a time of animated conversations, excess food, boisterous laughter, and sweet expressions of love. But when we quietly open our hearts, we find that time with God is even sweeter. Like Elijah, we’re more likely to encounter God in the stillness. And sometimes, if we listen, we too will hear that gentle whisper.

Today’s Reflection
What will help you draw close to God in silence and solitude? How can you regularly “power down” both your devices and your busy mind?

Seeds of Destiny 7 March 2019 Devotional – The Dedication of David

Topic: The Dedication of David [Seeds of Destiny 7 March 2019 Devotional]

Dedicated people have a rigid schedule of prayer with God which cannot be broken.

SCRIPTURE: As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? Psalm 42:1-2.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Dedicated people have a rigid schedule of prayer with God which cannot be broken.

David was a man unusually dedicated to God. The Scriptures make it clear that David was brutally dedicated to God (Psalms 63:1-2). He operated in the realm of die-less passion for God to the point that the yearning of his soul for God was compared with how the hart pants after the water brook (Psalm 42:1-2). His thirst for God made him to seek God early even in a dry and thirsty land (Psalm 63:1-3).

The outcome of that passion for God was that he was a man of prayer and the Word of God.

David prayed effortlessly. David had a schedule of prayer; he prayed three times a day (Psalms 55:17). The proof of being dedicated to God is having a schedule of prayer times with God which you are committed to. Dedicated people value their time of prayer with God. They are practically useless if they have not communicated with God. For a person to proceed through life in comfortability without times of prayer and communion with God places a question mark on their dedication to God.

Apart from prayer, David was a man of God’s Word; he studied and meditated on God’s Word consistently (Psalm 119:97, Psalm 119:113, and Psalm 119:163).

Beloved, your love for God’s Word is a proof of your dedication to Him. Dedicated people are lovers of God’s Word. They meditate on God’s Word; they do not allow vain thoughts to take the place of the Word of God in their hearts. To be dedicated to God, you must make a habitual practice of studying the Word and praying consistently. My counsel is, follow the dedication path of David.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Take a closer study of the life and dedication of David.
  2. Ask God to baptize you with an unconquerable passion for His Presence.

PRAYER: O Lord, I ask for an unconquerable passion for You and Your purpose for my life. Help me to seek You at all times, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

Kenneth Copeland Devotional 7 March 2019 – Expect to Hear His Voice

Topic: Expect to Hear His Voice [Kenneth Copeland Devotional 7 March 2019]

The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me. – John 10:27, The Amplified Bible

So many believers are unsure of their ability to hear God or know His voice. They’re always afraid that they won’t be able to tell when the Spirit of God is talking to them.

What they don’t realize is this: Hearing the voice of the Spirit is a privilege that the Bible says belongs to every believer (Romans 8:14). All we have to do to exercise that privilege is to receive it by faith and put ourselves in a position to hear.

Next time the devil tries to tell you that you can’t hear God’s voice, remember that.

Jesus said His sheep will know His voice and a stranger’s voice they will not follow. That is a promise of God to you today. You see, the Spirit of God will never guide you in opposition to the written Word of God (John 16:13). So, if you’re not familiar with what the Word says, you’ll find it more difficult to discern His leading.

Get familiar with God’s voice by meditating and studying the Word of God. Follow God’s instruction to Joshua and meditate on it day and night. Act on what you find in the Word, not just when it’s easy but every time. Be obedient even in the slightest things.

That continual obedience to the written Word will bring you into maturity and tune your inward ear to the voice of the Spirit. You’ll soon be able to recognize it as easily as you recognize the voice of your dearest friend.

So, instead of wondering about it, start expecting to hear from Him.

Then start sharpening your spiritual ears by spending time in the Word.

Billy Graham Devotional 7 March 2019 – The Divine Standard

Topic: The Divine Standard [Billy Graham Devotional 7 March 2019]

For salvation that comes from trusting Christ . . . is already within easy reach of each of us . . . — Romans 10:8 (TLB)

Christ said there is a happiness in that acknowledgment of spiritual poverty which lets God come into our souls. Now, the Bible teaches that our souls have a disease. It causes all the troubles and difficulties in the world. It causes all the troubles, confusions, and disillusionments in your own life. The name of the disease is an ugly word. We don’t like to use it. It is “sin.” All of us have pride. We do not like to confess that we are wrong or that we have failed. But God says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” We have failed to live up to the divine standard. We must confess our sin as the first step to happiness, peace, and contentment.

Prayer for the day: Pride kept me so long from acknowledging my need of You, Lord. Each day, help me to realize I am nothing without You.

Open Heavens for Teens 7 March 2019 – Good Neighbourliness I

Topic: Good Neighbourliness I [Open Heavens for Teens 7 March 2019]

Memorise: “For better is a neighbor that is near than a brother far off.” – Proverbs 27:10b

Read: Proverbs 18:24

24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Bible In One Year: Deuteronomy 3-4, Mark 11:20-33

MESSAGE:

When you need urgent help, the closest people to you are usually your neigbours, if you have been nice to them, then it will be easy for them to come to your aid, but if you have been cruel to them, then God help you.

The widow of Zarephath was able to get many empty vessels because her neigbours did not hesitate to lend her their vessels. This shows that she had been nice to them earlier. Imagine if she had been cruel to them before, they would have refused to lend her their vessels and she would have lost her miracle. It is also worthy of note that the neigbours had empty vessels to lend to her because they were poor themselves, otherwise, the vessels wouldn’t have been empty. Some teenagers are only nice to the rich children around. This is wrong and dangerous, you may find yourself in a position where you need help one day and the only person that can help you is one of those that you have been looking down on. Be kind to everyone, especially your neigbours, your miracle may just be dependent on that.

Key Point:

What you sow is what you will reap.

Hymn 13

1.Is your life a channel of blessing?
Is the love of God flowing through you?
Are you telling the lost of the Savior?
Are you ready His service to do?

Chorus:
Make me a channel of blessing today,
Make me a channel of blessing, I pray;
My life possessing, my service blessing,
Make me a channel of blessing today.

2.Is your life a channel of blessing?
Are you burdened for those that are lost?
Have you urged upon those who are straying
The Savior who does on the cross

3.Is your life a channel of blessing?
Is it a daily telling for Him?
Have you spoken the word of salvation?
To those who are dying in sin?

4.We cannot be channels of blessing
If our lives are not free from sin;
We will barriers be and a hindrance
To those we are trying to win.

U.S. Missile Defense System Deployed to Israel

U.S. Missile Defense System Deployed to Israel

The U.S. military announced earlier this week that for the first time in history, it has deployed its most advanced air and missile defense system to Israel.

The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) will be used for an exercise with the Israel Defense Forces to determine just how quickly the U.S. can deploy its missiles worldwide.

“THAAD is the most advanced integrated air and missile defense system in the world, and this deployment readiness exercise demonstrates that U.S. forces are agile and can respond quickly and unpredictably to any threat, anywhere, at any time,” U.S. European Command said in a statement.

According to CBN News, this is not the first time Israel and the U.S. have worked together on military drills, but the two nations hope that this joint effort will strengthen collaborative efforts between them.

The effort with the IDF is expected to “enhance coordination” between the two military forces and “strengthen the ability to defend Israeli airspace.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said of the missile system, “The American THAAD system is considered among the most advanced systems in the world, and together with our defense systems, we are stronger in dealing with threats, close or distant, emanating from all areas of the Middle East.”

The missile system defends against incoming threats, such as ballistic missiles. It can intercept missiles…

President Trump to Sign Executive Order Demanding Colleges Protect Free Speech

President Trump to Sign Executive Order Demanding Colleges Protect Free Speech

Just days after a conservative man was punched in the face on the University of California Berkley campus, President Trump announced that he will be signing an executive order, demanding colleges protect free speech.

During his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, President Trump ensured the people in the room that he was in the business of protecting people’s constitutional rights. He said, “Today I’m proud to announce that I will be very soon signing an executive order requiring colleges and universities to support free speech if they want federal research funding.”

He continued as the crowd erupted with applause, “If they want our dollars, and we give it to them by the billions, they’ve got to allow people like Hayden and many other great young people and old people to speak.”

During his speech, President Trump invited Hayden Williams – the victim of the assault on the U.C. Berkeley campus last week – to join him on stage.

Trump said, “I turned on my television the other day and I saw somebody that was violently punched in the face, and I said that’s disgusting.”

He continued, “The man’s name is Hayden Williams.”

Trump welcomed Williams to the stage where he applauded his ability to “take a punch.”

Trump said, “Ladies and gentlemen, he took a hard punch in the face for all of us. And we can…

Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh Calls New Jersey Law ‘Religious Discrimination’

Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh Calls New Jersey Law ‘Religious Discrimination’

A case concerning whether the government can lawfully bar religious buildings from receiving historic preservation funds was declined for review by the Supreme Court on Monday.

The case rose from a decision made last year by the New Jersey Supreme Court that ruled a grant program unlawfully used state funds to make repairs to churches.

CNBC writes that the decision will stand since the Supreme Court will not review the case.

Petitioners against the law that now prohibits preservation funds from being distributed to religious buildings argued that the exclusions are unconstitutional discrimination against religion and violate the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution.

The new Supreme Court Justice, Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in this weekend, appointed to the court by President Donald Trump, and made a statement, in which he suggested that the issue will not remain closed.

The new Court Justice voted to deny the case on “technical grounds,” wrote CNBC, but said that the nature of the prevention of the funds raised “serious questions.”

“At some point, this Court will need to decide whether governments that distribute historic preservation funds may deny funds to religious organizations simply because the organizations are religious,” wrote Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“Barring religious…

West African Court Faults Government of Nigeria for Failing to Stop Killings in Benue State

West African Court Faults Government of Nigeria for Failing to Stop Killings in Benue State

JOSNigeria, March 6, 2019 (Morning Star News) – The government of Nigeria failed to protect people massacred by Muslim Fulani herdsmen in predominantly Christian areas of Benue state in 2016 and should prosecute those responsible, a West African court has ruled.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court of Justice on Feb. 26 ordered the government to investigate the attacks that killed more than 300 Christians and destroyed property in the Agatu area, identify and prosecute the perpetrators and redress victims.

“The Nigerian government was in violation of its obligation to protect the human rights of these communities,” the three judges stated in their unanimous verdict.

The court also ordered Nigeria’s government to take urgent measures to protect Christians in the area by deployment of soldiers and police personnel to the affected communities. The suit states that in the past three years, Muslim Fulani attacks have killed 1,000 people and destroyed property in 15 counties, including the Agatu area.

The Rev. Solomon Mfa, a Catholic priest, along with 10 other Christian leaders in the area had filed suit against the Nigerian government at the court, which has jurisdiction over human rights issues for West Africa, as its companion courts, the European Court of Human Rights and the East African Court of…
