Our Daily Bread 22 February 2019 Devotional – He Holds Our Hand

Topic: He Holds Our Hand [Our Daily Bread 22 February 2019 Devotional]

Bible in a Year: Numbers 4–6; Mark 4:1–20

I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10

Today’s Scripture & Insight: Isaiah 41:8-13

The little girl who navigated the stairway one Sunday at church was cute, spunky, and independent. One by one the child—who appeared to be not much older than two years—took the steps down to the lower level. Descending the stairs was her mission and she accomplished it. I smiled to myself as I pondered the daring independence of this courageous toddler. The child wasn’t afraid because she knew her caring mother’s watchful eye was always on her and her loving hand was extended to help her. This aptly pictures the Lord’s readiness to help His children as they make their way through life with its varied uncertainties.

Today’s Scripture includes two “hand” references. After cautioning His ancient people not to fear or be dismayed, the Lord told them, “I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). Many anxious and fearful children have been steadied by the strength of a parent. Here God’s power comes into view. In the second “hand” reference, once again it’s the Lord who acted to secure the safety of His own. “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand” (v. 13). While life situations and times have changed, the Lord hasn’t. We need not despair (v. 10) because the Lord still assures us with the promise of His support and with the words we desperately need to hear: “Do not fear” (vv. 10, 13).

Today’s Reflection
Father, thank You for always watching over me.

DCLM Daily Manna 22 February 2019 – Futility of Worldly Wisdom

Topic: Futility of Worldly Wisdom [DCLM Daily Manna 22 February 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: John 9:39-41 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind” (John 9:39).

MESSAGE:

History is replete with men of great wisdom and knowledge. Some have written volumes of books in an attempt to share their knowledge and thinking. Others have propounded theories, which today, are foundational to many erroneous beliefs. In an attempt to be “wise” in human philosophy and ideas, many have ruined their lives and become entangled in the complex web of philosophy.

The pharisees saw themselves as wise men. Their great knowledge in the Jewish law and tradition completely blinded their eyes to the depth of their sins: self righteousness, sectarian practices and religious bigotry. In their pride, they said, “…Are we blind also?” The Saviour, in His answer, told them that if they had acknowledged their ignorance, the grace of God would have brought pardon to them. But since they claimed they were wise and rejected the Saviour, there was no hope that their sins could be washed.

Many there are today who reject the word of God and the Saviour Himself. To do this means to reject life, and remain in sin. There cannot be hope of eternal life when someone rejects the Saviour. The only true wisdom is knowledge of the most High. Man’s wisdom will fail and bring about judgment; but God’s wisdom will keep us safe and secure from all evil. It takes much more than the human mind to comprehend the infinite God. It takes abiding faith and real trust to know and to walk with Him. Appreciating God with the carnal sense will lead to utter confusion; it will attract God’s anger. Step out in faith today and believe with all your heart all that God has proclaimed. And you will live a life that truly pleases Him.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The wisdom of this world is foolishness before God.

Open Heavens for Teens 22 February 2019 – Use The Silent Treatment

Topic: Use The Silent Treatment [Open Heavens for Teens 22 February 2019]

Memorise: “Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” – Proverbs 17:28

Read: Proverbs 17:27-28

27 He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding has a cool spirit.

28 Even a fool when he holds his peace is considered wise; when he closes his lips he is esteemed a man of understanding.

Bible In One Year: Numbers 7, Mark 4:21-41

MESSAGE:

Asides giving your parents joy, a wise fellow is known by his or her ability to control the tongue. Proverbs 10:19 says

“In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.”

A talkative is never far from sin. A person that does not have control over his tongue reveals his secret to his enemies without even realizing it.

Ask yourself, why do I talk too much? Some people talk because the like noise; they cannot stay quiet. Some talk in order to impress the person they are with, some talk to show that they are arguers, some talk to show how current they are. When you identify the reason why you talk too much, put a control over your tongue whenever you are beginning to feel the need to talk. When you are unavoidably in the midst of lousy people, let them say all they want to say without you saying a word, when you leave, leave. When you do that, they will begin to suspect you and will not come around you to gossip or talk aimlessly anymore.

Action Point:

Being silent saves you from a lot of trouble and sins.

Hymn 16

  1. Christian, seek not yet repose
    Hear thy gracious Savior say;
Thou art in the midst of foes:
    Watch and pray.
  2. Principalities and power
    Mustering their unseen array
    Wait for the unguarded hours:
    Watch and pray
  3. Gird the heavenly armor on,
    Wear it ever night and day;
    Ambushed lies the evil one:
    Watch and pray.
  4. Hear the victors who o’ercame,
    Still they mark each warrior’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
    Watch and pray.
  5. Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
    Him thou loves to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word:
    Watch and pray.
  6. Watch, as if on that alone
    Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
    Watch and pray.

Open Heaven 22 February 2019 – The Blessedness of being Forgiven

Open Heaven 22 February 2019 Friday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – The Blessedness of being Forgiven

Topic: The Blessedness of being Forgiven (Open Heaven 22 February 2019)

Memorise:1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.”- Psalm 32:1-2

Read: Luke 23:39-43 (KJV)

39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Bible in One Year: Acts 5-6, Isaiah 44:21-45:13

Open Heaven 22 February 2019 Friday MESSAGE:

If you never faced the punishment of death, bogged down with the weight of your sins, you might not fully understand how sweet it is to receive the forgiveness Christ gives. If you have never been condemned to die with no tomorrow to look forward to, you might not fully appreciate what it means to have the assurance of waking up in Paradise. How sweet and marvelous it is to have your sins washed away, never to be remembered again! How glorious it is to have a new beginning where the past is all forgotten! How great it is to have the hope of a glorious tomorrow after living today in shame! These all describe the experience of the thief in today’s Bible reading who received mercy and forgiveness from the Lord. He is an example of what true blessedness means. While hanging and dying on the cross, this robber suddenly realized that though he and his colleague in crime were justifiably condemned by the law, he could still be redeemed. While the other robber was busy mocking Jesus, he was busy pleading for mercy. At the end of all, he received the blessing described in today’s memory verse.

When you take a look at God’s dealings with mankind all through history, you will realize the true blessedness that lies in divine forgiveness, without which no man can escape the judgment of the Holy God. One man realized this truth and he said in Psalm 130:3-4:

3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? 4 But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.”

King David is an example of someone who received pardon for sin from God, and this was the reason why he could appreciate what it is to receive forgiveness. Receiving forgiveness of sins is the foundation of all blessedness and a catalyst to being blessed as well. Jesus Christ demonstrated this in His response to the request to heal a man sick with palsy in Matthew 9:2. Although Jesus wanted to heal him, He knew that the barrier of sin must first be removed before the sick man could enjoy the benefit of divine healing, and so, when he saw the sick fellow, Jesus declared in Matthew 9:2c:

“…Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.”

Beloved, true blessedness is founded on the forgiveness we received for our sins; it is upon this foundation that all other blessing rest. For this reason, if you have not repented of your sin, I implore you to do so without further delay today. Are you weighed down with the burden of the evil acts you have perpetrated? The mercy of God is available for you today, only if you will ask for it like the thief on the cross did. Jesus will forgive you as He forgave him, following which He will also grant you access to the paradise of His blessings here on earth.

Open Heaven 22 February 2019 Friday Action Point:

Take the weight of sins upon you to the foot of Jesus’ cross, asking for His mercy and forgiveness.

Open Heaven 22 February 2019 Friday Hymn 6: Have You Been To Jesus For The Cleansing Power?

1. Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Chorus:
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

2. Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

3. When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white!
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Will your soul be ready for His presence bright,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?

4. Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
O be washed in the blood of the Lamb.

Rhapsody of Realities 22 February 2019 – Endless Prosperity

Rhapsody of Realities 22 February 2019 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome – Endless Prosperity

Topic: Endless Prosperity

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed (Genesis 12:2-3).

From the Bible, we see that even at old age, Abraham was very rich, because God blessed Him in all things. He was rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold (Genesis 13:2). The word translated, “cattle” is actually “livestock”; he had herds of cattle, sheep, goats, etc.

Then in Genesis 24:1, we yet read something beautiful about Abraham; it says, “And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.” Abraham’s life progressed from glory to glory; no downtimes. This is God’s plan for your life; upward and forward only. He doesn’t want a situation where, somewhere along the course of your life, you’ll be regarded as one who used to be rich; He’s ordained your prosperity to be for eternity.

You’re God’s just and righteous one, and the Bible says, “…the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day” (Proverbs 4:18). That’s the story and progression of the life of the one in Christ.

Thus, just because you’re retired doesn’t mean you should go broke; the Bible says, “So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham” (Galatians 3:9). You’re blessed with faithful Abraham, and of the increase of your wealth and prosperity, there shall be no end! Blessed be God!

CONFESSION
I’m an heir of God and a joint-heir with Christ; the world belongs to me. I’m the seed of Abraham; therefore, I’m blessed with faithful Abraham; I’m blessed with the dew of heaven, with the fatness of the earth, and with plenty of corn and wine. My prosperity is endless.

C of E votes to end Sunday services obligation

The original amendment, which was part of canon law, obliged all parish churches to hold a Sunday service.

During a meeting of the General Synod on Thursday the change to Church law was approved by a vote of 20 bishops to zero, 92 clergy to zero and 118 laity in favour, two against and one abstention.

The proposal was first made by the Bishop of Willesden, the Rt Rev Pete Broadbent in 2016.

He argued changing the law would reflect the practice of priests who look after multiple churches in their parish and are unable to hold a Sunday service in each one.

Speaking in 2016 he said: “Most churches can’t manage that and if you’re a priest that looks after about 10 churches you can only do two or three on a Sunday.

“For 20-30 years the Church of England has basically operated on a kind of rota basis.

“For years people have been breaking the law because you have to make those arrangements but actually the law hasn’t caught up with what’s actually happening.

“It (the change) will make no actual difference to what’s going on but it clears the way for people to be honest.”

Church Leaders give blessing to plastic free Easter Egg

The Meaningful Chocolate Company are well known for making chocolate products for Christian celebrations which highlight the Biblical narratives behind the festivals, such as making advent calendars that tell the gospel narrative of the Christmas story.

At Easter, their eggs include a 24 page copy of the story of Jesus’ last days, death and ascension.

In November 2018 1,000 Christians responded to a Survey Monkey asking them to rate how important it was for the Easter eggs the were to buy in 2019 to be plastic free 3.3% said not important, 33.28% Important, 63.58% very important.

David Marshall from the Meaningful Chocolate Company, who make the Real Easter Egg, said: “Easter eggs don’t have to cost the earth. We have replaced plastic bags, tamper-seals and Best Before stickers with paper versions.

“There is still the same amount of chocolate in the Real Easter Egg and the box sizes are the same but the redesign means our Dark and Original Egg will save at least 5 tonnes of plastic and 175 tonnes of card in the next five years.”

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, said; “I am delighted that an Easter Egg, which…
