U.S. Missionary Could Face Genocide Charge for Entering Tribal Land

A U.S. missionary to indigenous people in Brazil could be charged with genocide after entering the land of an isolated tribe and potentially breaking the law.

Missionary Steve Campbell and his family have worked among the Jamamadí people in Brazil for more than 50 years, but Campbell could be in trouble for entering into the territory of another tribe, the Himarimã, Christianity Today reported.

The Himarimã are among the last uncontacted tribes and are protected by laws that prevent contact from outside groups. Those laws are intended, in part, to guard the tribe from diseases.

Campbell is affiliated with Baptist Bible Fellowship International. A church in Maine, Greene Baptist Church, helps support him.

“If it is configured, in the investigation, that there was interest to make contact [with Himarimã], to use his relationship with other Indians to approach the isolated ones, he can be accused of a crime of genocide by deliberately exposing the safety and life of the Himarimã,” said Bruno Pereira, coordinator of a government body, FUNAI, that protects indigenous tribes.

Campbell has lived in the area since he was a toddler. His parents moved to Brazil as translators through Wycliffe Global Alliance, Christianity Today reported.

He reportedly entered into Himarimã land while teaching the Jamamadí how to use GPS.

“He is committed to the…

Court Orders Planned Parenthood to Answer Questions about Sale of Fetal Tissue, Organs

Court Orders Planned Parenthood to Answer Questions about Sale of Fetal Tissue, Organs

A court has ordered four Planned Parenthood affiliates to answer questions regarding the profits they earned from the procurement and sale of fetal tissue.

According to Life Legal Defense Foundation, Planned Parenthood along with several of its affiliates filed suit against the Center for Medical Progress some three years ago claiming that CMP had lied about Planned Parenthood’s involvement in the sale of organs and tissue from aborted babies. CMP had sent investigators into various Planned Parenthood clinics and events to investigate the organization’s involvement with fetal tissue sale and procurement, where they caught several high-level Planned Parenthood employees on tape discussing the illegal sales.

Planned Parenthood has continuously claimed that CMP altered the video recordings to fit their narrative saying they were “misleadingly edited” to implicate Planned Parenthood in the illegal sale of fetal tissue. The organization stated that they filed the lawsuit to “expose the falsity” of CMP’s videos and to help them “recover millions of dollars in damages for the alleged harm the videos caused,” the Life Legal Defense Foundation writes.

The videos have since been ruled “not deceptive” by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, WND reports.

Throughout the course of the lawsuit, investigators have also found more evidence…

Welsh govt launch consultation on Religious Education

The consultation is open for the next eight weeks, until the 25th March, as part of a wider shake-up of the Welsh curriculum unveiled by the Minister for Education Kirsty Williams on Monday.

One of the proposed changes to RE in the government’s White Paper reads: “It is our intention also that RE reflects our historical and contemporary relationship in Wales to philosophy and religious views, including non-religious beliefs.

“Therefore the current legislation will be amended to ensure the agreed syllabus for RE takes account of non-religious world views which are analogous to religions (e.g. humanism).

Humanists UK, who campaigned on the inclusion of non-religious views, said this was a ‘great advance for children and famiies’.

Other potential changes include no longer making RE compulsory for sixth-form students and asking parents whether they still agree that there should remain an option to withdraw a pupil from RE or Relationships and Sex Education classes.

The opposite has been proposed for early year learners – the White Paper suggests that children should no longer be allowed to be taken out of Religious Education in school nursery classes “to ensure parity for all subjects”.

They say: “We believe learners of all ages can benefit from knowledge of the broad spectrum of religious, philosophical and cultural traditions held by people in Wales.”

God Will Make a Way by Don Moen mp3

Lyrics

God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me

He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

Oh, God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me

He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

By a roadway in the wilderness, He’ll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and Earth will fade but His Word will still remain
And He will do something new today

Oh, God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me

He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

By a roadway in the wilderness, He’ll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and Earth will fade but His Word will still remain
And He will do something new today

Oh, God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me

He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

CNBC’s ‘Children Cost Too Much’ Story Sparks Major Backlash

CNBC’s ‘Children Cost Too Much’ Story Sparks Major Backlash

A CNBC story touting the cost savings of not having children sparked a major backlash over the weekend, with parents on Facebook and Twitter writing personals testimonies about the blessings of childrearing.

The story’s original title read, “You can save half a million dollars if you don’t have kids,” although it eventually was changed to a slightly less offensive, “Here’s how much you save when you don’t have kids.”

The story’s arguments reflected the headline.

“Your friends may tell you having kids has made them happier,” it read. “They’re probably lying. Research shows that parenthood leads to a happiness gap. Maybe that’s because the pleasures of parenthood are outweighed by all the extra responsibilities, housework and, of course, the costs. Maybe that’s why Americans are having fewer children than ever before. Just how much can you expect to save if you don’t have kids?”

The story asserted that in the years between a child’s birth and his or her 18th birthday, parents will spend $467,000.

“If you don’t have kids, in short, you’ll save a lot of money,” the author, Yoni Blumberg, wrote.

It ended with a nod to the other side of the argument: Childless parents may spend all their money in the nursing home when “there is no around to take care of you.” Still, parents on social media felt the story was over the top…

Christian Aid calls for more help for Yemen

An estimated 85,000 children have already died from extreme hunger and the charities say more than 14 million people are now facing starvation.

They say it is the worst humanitarian crisis in the world and are urging all parties to the conflict to put the country’s people first.

Deborah Hyams, Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy Advisor for Christian Aid told Premier:

“This is not a natural disaster. This is happening because of the war and all the different parties that are contributing to that fighting and we’re asking everyone, all the leaders of all the different countries involved to put people first.”

Hopes were raised in December 2018 when a ceasefire was agreed between the Iranian backed-Houthi forces and the Saudi coalition in the port of Hodeida.

But Deborah Hyams told Premier that this has not yet brought the relief that was hoped.

“Neither the Houthi forces, nor the Saudi coalition have withdrawn their troops and agreed on those troops’ withdrawals and how to implement that.”

The charities welcomed the UK government’s announcement last week that it will be increasing its funding to the UN Peace process in Yemen by £2.5 million, but said the situation is so desperate that much more needs to be done.

Christian Aid encourages those who would like to pray to be guided by the following prayer points:

For peace for the people of Yemen
For wisdom for those involved…

20 Killed, 111 Wounded in ISIS Bombing at Catholic Cathedral

20 Killed, 111 Wounded in ISIS Bombing at Catholic Cathedral

A Roman Catholic Cathedral was struck by horror and tragedy during Sunday Mass this weekend when two bombs exploded killing at least 20 people and wounding over 100.

According to the Associated Press, congregants stampeded out of the Philippines based Jolo Cathedral following the first explosion. About one minute after the first explosion, military personnel and police officers began to rush into the building when a second bomb, located near the church’s entrance, went off.

According to police reports, at least 20 people were killed in the blasts and 111 people were wounded. Of the 20 fatalities, 15 were civilians and five were military troops. Of those wounded, the AP reports that 17 troops, two police officers, 2 coast guard members and 90 civilians were injured.

The office of President Rodrigo Duterte released a statement following the attack ensuring citizens that no measure would be spared to catch the bomber(s). The statement said, “We will pursue to the ends of the earth the ruthless perpetrators behind this dastardly crime until every killer is brought to justice and put behind bars.” The statement added, “The law will give them no mercy.”

Since the president released this statement, the ISIS terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack through their Amaq propaganda agency, Fox News reports.

Asia Bibi’s lawyer returns to Pakistan ahead of appeal decision

Saif ul-Malook flew from Amsterdam in the Netherlands at the weekend, according to a tweet published by the Dutch politician Joël Voordewind.

The message, translated by the AFP news agency, said: “This afternoon [Saturday], I escorted Asia Bibi’s lawyer, Mr Malook to Schipol Airport.

“He’s going back to Pakistan to hopefully represent Asia for the last time in her case.”

Mr ul-Malook was granted temporary stay in the Netherlands last year after fleeing for his life from Pakistan in the wake of Asia Bibi’s acquittal.

The lawyer claimed he had been inundated with threats. Ms Bibi’s acquittal prompted demonstrations by hard-line Islamists who said she ought to be publicly executed.

According to lawyers, a court will decide on Tuesday whether to allow an appeal against the Supreme Court’s decision to clear the Christian mother-of-five.

Bibi spent eight years on death row after being convicted in 2010 of insulting the Islamic prophet Mohammad. She was then acquitted in October but has not been able to leave the country.

Speaking in London in November 2018, Mr ul-Malooksaid he had no regrets about representing Ms Bibi.

Christian venue defends refusal to host gay weddings

Christian staff at The Venue at Waterstone in Celina, northern Texas insisted they “love all people” after they cancelled an enquiry made by Aaron Lucero and Jeff Cannon.

In a statement seen by NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, they said: “We are a family of believers. We love all people because Christ first loved us; Jeffrey and Aaron included.

“We cannot violate the convictions God has placed within us. In love, we would never affirm anyone in something that was to their detriment.”

Publishing a lengthy post on Facebook, Mr Lucero said The Venue at Waterstone had “tried to disguise its discrimination” by not making its stance of same-sex weddings visible on its website.

He claimed the couple were not informed about the unavailability of the venue until the night before they were due to visit on 20th January.

Mr Lucero added: “The reason we are sharing this is not because The Venue at Waterstone refuses to host same-sex weddings; it is because they refuse to publicize their discriminatory policy on their website.

“They want to discriminate against the LGBTQ+ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, plus] community in private.”

It is currently legal to discriminate against people on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, according to the American Civil Liberties Union.

Mr Lucero, who became engaged to Mr Cannon last November, said they had got “very…
