Joyce Meyer Devotional 24 January 2019 — Greater Things

Topic: Greater Things [Joyce Meyer Devotional 24 January 2019]

“Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.” — Jeremiah 33:3 (AMP)

Satan is constantly waging war on the battlefield of the mind.

Our soul is the tangible area between our spirit—the place where God Himself lives—and our physical body. It is made up of our mind, will, and emotions—it tells us what we think, what we want, and how we feel.

When our mind is constantly stirred up with concern, worry, and anxiety, our God-given inner voice of insight and understanding becomes drowned out. In this unstable state, we no longer know what God’s will is regarding what we should and shouldn’t do.

When we allow the enemy to overtake our mind with worry and anxiety instead of following God’s Spirit, we are living the life of the flesh, and it keeps us out of God’s will.

Romans 8:8 says that . . . those who are living the life of the flesh [catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature] cannot please or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him (AMPC).

This does not mean that God doesn’t love us. It simply means that He is not satisfied with, nor will He accept, fleshly behavior.

God cares about us and about our needs. He wants greater things for us than we want for ourselves. We must fight hard to resist the temptation to accept the devil’s endless lies.

When I finally got fed up with not having any peace in my life, I made a decision to do whatever I needed to do to get it. I asked God what I should do. His response was clear:

“Joyce, you need to begin living on a deeper level.” Eventually, the Lord made it apparent to me that the deeper level on which I needed to live was the level of the Spirit.

In order for us to truly enjoy the abundant life Jesus died to give us, we need to stop worrying about what we think we want and need, and start following the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

That’s the message against worry. It doesn’t matter if your need is food, a job, the right clothing, the best schools for your children, your future, or the future of your family—God knows and God cares. The trick of Satan is to whisper, “God doesn’t care about you. If God truly cared, you wouldn’t be in this mess.”

When we focus on ourselves—what we don’t have—we have little energy left to focus on others and reaching out to help them. We don’t give money freely when we’re afraid or worried that we’ll lose our job or not have enough to pay our own bills. But when we trust God to provide for every need, we are free to share what we have.

Let me encourage you to stop worrying about your own needs and instead focus on the Word of God. You might even need to say to yourself out loud, “God does love me, and nothing can separate me from His love. He has heard my confession of sin, and He has forgiven and cleansed me. God has a positive plan for my future because His Word says so” (see Romans 8:38-39; 1 John 1:9; Jeremiah 29:11).

Every time worry and anxiety come up to try and steal your righteousness, peace, and joy, find out what the Word of God says, and then open your mouth and speak the Word.

God’s ultimate goal is to get us to the point where no matter what is going on, we remain calm. Who is going to keep us calm? The answer to that question is the power of the Holy Spirit working on the inside of us. God wants us to develop the habit of running to Him for the grace to resist the lies of the devil. Eventually the truth will win out and change our life!

Prayer Starter: My heavenly Father, thank You for caring for me and for assuring me that You will provide for every need I have. Too often, I’ve allowed worry to creep in and steal my joy or my peace. Because of worries over little things, sometimes I’ve been unable to focus on the greater things in this life You do for me. In the name of Jesus Christ, free me from the things that bind me so I can be totally free to worship and serve You. Amen.

MFM Daily Devotional 24 January 2019 – Not God’s Idea (I)

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 24 January 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Not God’s Idea (I)

TOPIC: Not God’s Idea (I) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 24 January 2019)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Genesis 2:21-25

Bible In One Year: Exodus 9-11; Matthew 15:21-39

MEMORY VERSE: “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach.” – 1 Timothy 3:2

The MESSAGE:

Christian marriage originated from God, it is God’s idea and the foundation of social structure called family. Man is redefining so many things God has created and made beautiful from the beginning. Sometimes, people attribute it to modernisation; some attribute it to lack of contentment and inquisitiveness on the part of man. Christian marriage is one of the institution man is erroneously redefining. God is the originator and founder of the institution of marriage. It is solely His idea. He has plan, purpose and blueprint on how it should be constituted, those who are supposed to come together in the conjugal union, the roles of each party in the covenant partnership, the benefits of partners fulfilling their parts of the covenant and the consequences of not doing so.

Not all marriages are Godly. They are not Godly because they are not following the blueprint and divine manual enshrined in God’s word (the Bible). Today, divorce and separation rates have reached an alarming height. Couples run their marriages based on human ideas and wisdom rather than God’s idea. Some are even using the devil’s idea and methods to run their marriages, neglecting the word of God. Beloved, this is the main reason the world records thousands of cases of failed marriages on a daily basis.

Marriages that are established on ungodly and sinful foundations are bound to fail and collapse. What are these kinds of marriages that we find in the world today? First, it is not God’s idea that a man should get married to another man or a woman to another woman. God’s standard and idea is marriage between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:21-25).

Second, it is not God’s idea that a man or woman should get married to his blood relation (brother, sister, cousin, nephew, niece, step brother, step sister, step mother and step father, etc.) as is the practice in some parts of the world today. Incest is a great sin in the sight of the Lord (Leviticus 18:1-18; Deuteronomy 20:11-21).

In addition, it is not God’s idea that a Christian get married to an unconverted pagan. Abraham stressed this point to Eliazar, his servant, when he sent Eliazar to go and get a wife for Isaac (Genesis 24). The patriarch knew the implication of a circumcised person getting married to an uncircumcised person. Besides, God Himself acknowledged that Abraham would obey Him and ensure that his household does so too. Conversely, the Bible records that Solomon did not end as well as he started with God (1 Kings 11:1-8). Beloved, to obey is better than sacrifice. Be wise!

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
A GODLY MARRIAGE PRODUCES GODLY CHILDREN WHO ARE ASSETS TO THE SOCIETY AT LARGE.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Your marriages shall experience the peace of God.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. I remove my marriage from the dominion of the powers of darkness, in the name of Jesus.
  2. I reject every spirit of financial embarrassment in my marriage, in the name of Jesus.
  3. I kick out every spirit of error in my marriage, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. O God my Father, give me the power to do Your will in my marriage, in the name of Jesus.
  5. I cancel every evil vow affecting me negatively, in the name of Jesus.
  6. I destroy the time table of the enemy for my life, in the name of Jesus.
  7. I remove my name and my family’s name from the register of untimely death, in the name of Jesus.

DCLM Daily Manna 24 January 2019 – Shine the Light

Topic: Shine the Light [DCLM Daily Manna 24 January 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Exodus 27:9-21 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always(Exodus 27:20).

MESSAGE:

One of the most difficult things for believers is not to profess faith in God, but to live a shining and sparking life. Yet, this is what makes the difference between those who love Jesus Christ and those who do not.

Moses had been receiving instructions from God on how to construct the tabernacle in the wilderness. Here, the Lord explained to him how to make the courtyard of the tabernacle. He was told of the curtains to adorn various sides of the tabernacle, their lengths and quality. He was to make pillars and sockets and hooks and fillets for the tabernacle; some of brass work and others of silver. The gate of the courtyard was to be draped in blue, purple and scarlet curtains, made of fine needlework. The curtains were to be made to measure a hundred cubits in length, fifty cubits in breadth and five cubits in height. All the vessels of the tabernacle, including the pins were to be made of brass. It was to be an imposing edifice that should be made of brass. It was to be an imposing edifice that should be made of brass. It was to be an imposing edifice that should command the awe and reverence of God. The work done, Moses was to instruct the Israelites to offer pure olive oil to serve as fuel for the tabernacle lamp which must burn perpetually.

As Christians, we are the tabernacle of God today. He has made us to a specification of righteousness and holiness. But the beauty of the Christian life is in the quality of God’s grace that we possess. Grace is the oil that makes our lives to shine. It produces in us works of love, compassion and patience. When we possess the grace of God, our lives will positively impact others. Our lives will lead people to Christ and not repel them. Is your life a shining and burning light? Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

Thought For The Day: A life full of grace is a continual praise to God.

Seeds of Destiny 24 January 2019 Devotional – Making the Choice to Stand with God

Topic: Making the Choice to Stand with God [Seeds of Destiny 24 January 2019 Devotional]

Scripture: And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15.

Thought For The Day: To take a stand for God is to become a standard in life.

Life is a product of choice; what or where you would be in life is a product of your decision. People remain where they are in life because of indecision.

It is important to note that dedication is critical to becoming great in life. One implication of taking sides with God is making the choice to take a stand for God; a public stand for God. There must be a choice if a person must stand and remain with God. It is taking a public stand with God like Elijah who said, ‘…before God whom I stand…’ (1 Kings 17:1). When you take a stand with God, people will know you with God. Those who are not dedicated cannot take a stand for God; they cannot tolerate what is not pleasant on behalf of God and the Kingdom; they are allergic to controversy and addicted to convenience. If becoming a Christian would make them look controversial, they would not take a spiritual stand with God. They are married to what is convenient. No one goes far with God who refuses to make the choice to stand with God. To take a stand for God is to become a standard in life.

Beloved, as a Christian, you must make up your mind to stand out for God and speak against the ungodly work of darkness wherever you find yourself. Make the choice to stand for God.

Remember this: To take a stand for God is to become a standard in life.

Assignments:

  1. Make the choice to take a stand for God even if it means to stand alone.
  2. Make the principles of God’s Word your standard for living.

Prayer: Father, I ask that You give me the grace to take a stand for You even if it means to stand alone, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

Our Daily Bread 24 January 2019 Devotional – The Wide Shot

Topic: The Wide Shot [Our Daily Bread 24 January 2019 Devotional]

Bible in a Year: Exodus 12–13; Matthew 16

You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation . . . that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.1 Peter 2:9

Today’s Scripture & Insight: 1 Peter 2:1-10

During the television coverage of the inauguration of the first African-American president of the US, the camera showed a panoramic view of the enormous crowd of the nearly two million people who had gathered to witness the historic event. CBS News correspondent Bob Schieffer remarked, “The star of this show is the wide shot.” Nothing else could capture the multitude stretching from the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol.

Scripture gives us a glimpse of an even larger throng, united by their faith in Jesus Christ: “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation . . . that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9).

This is not an image of the privileged few, but of the ransomed many from “every tribe and language and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9). Today we are scattered across the globe, where many feel isolated and suffer for their allegiance to Jesus. But through the lens of God’s Word we see the wide shot of our brothers and sisters in faith standing together to honor the One who redeemed us and made us His own.

Let’s join together in praise to the One who brought us out of the darkness and into the light!

Today’s Reflection
We are in agreement, Lord, that You are worthy of all praise! We, Your people, are in awe of You.

TREM Devotional 24 January 2019 – You Need The Holy Spirit

Topic: You Need The Holy Spirit [TREM Devotional 24 January 2019]

“Then Manoah intreated the Lord, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born”. Judges 13:8, KJV

I love what Samson’s father did which should be the position of any man of God. When I use the word ‘man’, I am using it generically for any person who is a Christian. Know this, the wife came and told him what God said to her and the man went into prayers. He didn’t say ‘get out of here.’ He went into prayers and he was sensitive and open to the Holy Ghost. According to our Bible text today, what Manoah was saying is that ‘let the messenger come back and teach us again. I also want to learn from the instruction.’ And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah. God listened to him!

When you ask God for direction, He will always give you. It is our right and it is our privilege as God’s children to receive direction from Him. So, don’t feel intimidated when asking from God or making enquiries from God. The Holy Spirit dwells in you. He is in you to give you direction and guide you into all truth. It is not only when you speak in tongues that you know that the Holy Spirit dwells in you. As many that are led by the Spirit, they are the sons of God. You must begin to live your life supernaturally and refuse to be limited by the natural environment that you are living in. Jesus Christ never was limited.

In the book of Judges 15:15, we are told that Samson, by the Spirit, picked an unnatural thing and was able to produce a thousand result. The purpose of the Holy Spirit is to improve your life, improve your productivity and ensure that you go beyond yourself. And when you hear the word ‘anointing’, it means God coming upon flesh to do what flesh could not have done. That is what you need.

Kenneth Copeland Devotional 24 January 2019 – Do Your Own Praying

Topic: Do Your Own Praying [Kenneth Copeland Devotional 24 January 2019]

Is anyone among you afflicted (ill-treated, suffering evil)? He should pray. – James 5:13, The Amplified Bible

The Greek word translated afflicted doesn’t mean the result of sickness and disease. It means “troubled.”

If you’re in trouble, you need to pray. That’s what the Word says. Notice it didn’t say your pastor needs to pray for you or your friends need to pray for you. It says you need to pray.

Too often we try to find a quick fix to our problems by asking everyone else to pray for us. There’s nothing wrong, of course, with having others pray for you, but you’ll never get your life to a place of permanent victory until you begin to pray yourself.

The biggest church in the world is in Seoul, Korea. It’s pastored by Dr. David Cho, and the last I heard, it had more than 700,000 members. How did that church grow to be so large? According to Dr. Cho, the key is prayer. Not just his prayers but the prayers of his people. Praying is a way of life in that church. They have a place called Prayer Mountain where thousands of people come every day to pray.

I once heard Dr. Cho’s mother-in-law on television talking about the emphasis they put on prayer. She said that when their church members are in trouble, when they have marriage problems or problems in their personal lives, before anything else is done, those church members are told to go and fast and pray for 24 hours.

We need to do more of that here in our churches in the United States. We need to quit training our people to run around asking others to pray for them and train them instead to do their own praying.

You see, if I pray for God to solve one problem for you, you may enjoy success for a while, but then another problem will come along because you’ll still be making the same old mistakes that got you in trouble the first time. But if you buckle down and do that praying for yourself, if you discipline yourself to start searching out the things of the Spirit, you’ll get permanent answers. You’ll learn how to make adjustments in your life that will keep those problems from cropping up again.

If you have made Jesus your Lord, you have access to the throne of Almighty God. He has every solution to every problem you’ll ever have, and He’s just waiting for you to come to Him, so He can give you the answer. It may take some private time alone with Him for you to hear it, but He will never disappoint you.

Don’t depend on others to do your praying for you. Go personally to the throne of God today.

U.S. Supreme Court Declines to Hear Appeal from Former High School Football Coach Fired for Praying after Football Games

U.S. Supreme Court Declines to Hear Appeal from Former High School Football Coach Fired for Praying after Football Games

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from a former Washington state high school football coach who was fired for praying after football games.

According to the Christian Post, John Kennedy was the Bremerton High School football coach up until 2015 when he was placed on suspension for repeatedly praying on the high school’s football field after the games were over.

In September of 2015, Kennedy received a warning letter from the district’s Superintendent Aaron Leavell telling him that by praying he had violated the establishment clause because he was publicly demonstrating an act of faith. One month later, Kennedy was suspended and in December, he filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and began the process of suing the school district.

According to the Supreme Court statement of Justice Alito, the letter cited two different reasons for why Kennedy was being suspended and eventually fired.

“On October 23, 2015, the superintendent wrote to petitioner to explain why the district found petitioner’s conduct at the then-most recent football game to be unacceptable,” the Supreme Court decision reads.

“And in that letter, the superintendent gave two quite different reasons: first, that petitioner, in praying on the field after the game, neglected his responsibility to…

Andrew Wommack Devotional 24 January 2019 – A Greater Humility

Topic: A Greater Humility [Andrew Wommack Devotional 24 January 2019]

Matthew 3:14, “But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?”

Text: MT. 3:13-17; MK. 1:9-11; LK. 3:21-23

John the Baptist was overwhelmed that Jesus was asking to be baptized by him. John had already declared himself unworthy to unloose the latchet of the Christ’s shoes, and now the Christ was asking him to administer His baptism (Lk. 3:16).

Likewise, we are often overwhelmed by the idea that the Lord could use us. Who are we to proclaim the unsearchable riches of Christ? It is easy to disqualify ourselves and not fulfill God’s instructions. However, Jesus told John that he had to do it to fulfill all righteousness.

As wonderful as it may seem, the Lord has chosen to use us. God’s Word could not have been fulfilled without John’s cooperation. The Lord works through men.

We can do nothing by ourselves, but the Lord will do nothing by Himself (Jn. 15:5; Eph. 3:20). A lack of understanding this has caused many people to miss God’s blessings. They pray and desire God’s best, but wait on God to move independent of them. There are things that we must do to fulfill the righteousness of God in our lives.

John was not seeking to exalt himself, but his failure to baptize Jesus would not have been an act of humility. It would have been stupidity. It takes great humility to recognize the call of God on your life and let Him use you.
