Text: 1 Chronicles 11:26-47 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Also the valiant men of the armies were, Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem” (1 Chronicles 11:26).

MESSAGE:

Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) is generally acknowledged to be one of the strongest and most vigorous president in the United States’ history. His brave and irrepressible disposition is quite evidenced in his following notable quote: “Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they lie in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” A brave spirit like this if found in any army could be the determinant of victory, if God is in it.

This, then, was the privilege of David as God prepared him to be king over all Israel. Great men came over to him and held a meeting with him to make his kingdom strong. The list is long but they are all referred to as valiant men in our text. They were tough and no seekers of pleasure. They preferred rejection and hardship of life to living under the oppressive hands of King Saul. They fought alongside David until he was made king and the kingdom was established under him.

True Christians are not only followers but also soldiers of Christ. We are to be brave and steadfast in our faith and service to the Lord. A steadfast Christian soldier is never a deserter. He endures hardness and he is never a lover of the world or the attraction it holds. He loves the Lord.

As David’s great men individually distinguished themselves in battle, and in their own right qualified to be included in the list of great men by their deeds of bravery, so must we fight the good fight of faith and overcome sin, Satan and self to stand out as soldiers of Christ.

MESSAGE:

Are you taking the path of self-government? It is far too dangerous! Your understanding, knowledge and wisdom can fail you at any time like it failed the prodigal son. He wanted to be free to do whatever he liked. Because he had lots of money to spend, it thought that he would be fine by himself, only for him to be led into destruction by that self-government. Maybe you have a lot of money in your hands even as a teenager, or maybe it is your intelligence or parents’ connections that make you feel on top of the world. You must never feel on top of the world to the extent of wanting to stop being under authority. You must remain under the authority of your parents or guardians, your teachers and especially God.

If you run away from those who will tell you the truth and correct you, you will fall into the hand of those who will lead you into destruction. If you say that the gospel is too restrictive and you want to be free, that freedom will come with sorrow from the devil. Don’t mind those that live in self-government and make it look good, they are hiding a lot of pain and depression with their fine cloths and make-up. Stay under the authority.

Key Point:

A child that will not listen to correction will fall into destruction

Topic: Going All The Way With God [Seeds of Destiny 16 January 2019 Devotional]

Scripture: And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came. Genesis 12:5.

Thought For The Day: To go all the way with God is to refuse to look back from following God.

Dedicated people exist in the realm of enviable authority, dominion and prominence. God differentiates and distinguishes those who are dedicated to Him from the rest. Therefore, it is very important to look at what dedication is all about.

Dedication means going all the way with God. Now, what does it mean to go all the way with God?

It means:
i. Going full length with God
To go all the way with God is to go full length with God; it is being committed to God wholeheartedly. Going all the way with God is not half-hearted commitment to God but the total commitment of your heart to God. It is the commitment of no return; that is, you are willing to go with God and you refuse to turn back from following Him. That is to say, there is no possibility of a reconsideration of your decision to serve God.

ii. Refusal to look back
To go all the way with God is to refuse to look back from following God; it is refusing to envy your former friends who are unbelievers (Genesis 12:5). When God called Abraham, Abraham took his wife, Lot, his nephew and all that he had and set out for Canaan; they did not stop on the way until they reached their destination.

Paul the Apostle also made up his mind that nothing would stop him from reaching his God-ordained destination for his life (Philippians 3:13-14). There are people who have stopped following God because of the pressures of life; they stopped their journey with God half-way, it ought not to be so.
Beloved, make up your mind to go full length with God and refuse to look back or go back.

Remember this: To go all the way with God is to refuse to look back from following God.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the grace to go full length with You. Help me not to look back from following You, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

Today’s Scripture & Insight: Hosea 11:8-11

“What’s one thing you can’t give up?” the radio host asked. Listeners called in with some interesting answers. Some mentioned their families, including a husband who shared memories of a deceased wife. Others shared they can’t give up on their dreams, such as making a living in music or becoming a mother. All of us have something we treasure dearly—a person, a passion, a possession—something we can’t give up.

In the book of Hosea, God tells us that He won’t give up on His chosen people Israel, His treasured possession. As Israel’s loving husband, God provided her with everything she needed: land, food, drink, clothing, and security. Yet like an adulterous spouse, Israel rejected God and sought her happiness and security elsewhere. The more God pursued her, the further she drifted away (Hosea 11:2). However, though she had hurt Him deeply, He would not give her up (v. 8). He would discipline Israel so as to redeem her; His desire was to re-establish His relationship with her (v. 11).

Today, all God’s children can have the same assurance: His love for us is a love that will never let us go (Romans 8:37–39). If we’ve wandered from Him, He yearns for us to return. When God disciplines us, we can be comforted that it’s a sign of His pursuit, not of His rejection. We are His treasure; He won’t give up on us.

Today’s Reflection:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love that never gives up on me. Help me to love You wholeheartedly.

Topic: Revelation Knowledge [Andrew Wommack Devotional 16 January 2019]

Luke 2:26, “And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.”

Text: Luke 2:25-35

Simeon didn’t receive this knowledge through the normal method of learning. This knowledge was revealed to him directly from the Holy Spirit. This revelation knowledge which comes only from God is distinctly different than knowledge acquired through study. Man’s knowledge is based on observation. It cannot give perfect instruction about the future. God’s knowledge can. Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit we can know things to come (Jn. 16:13).

When dealing with God, revelation knowledge is essential. The Lord’s ways are not always our ways (Isa. 55:8). A fear of trusting the intuitive knowledge that God gives us will cause us to miss many blessings of God.

If he hadn’t received it and anticipated its fulfillment, what a blessing he would have missed! He would not have been led into the temple at exactly the right moment to see the salvation of the Lord.

We need to ask for and expect to receive revelation knowledge from the Lord. God desires to impart it more than we desire to receive it. Great blessings await those who will not depend solely on their own understanding (Prov. 3:5).

Topic: Rejoice in Him [Billy Graham Devotional 16 January 2019]

I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. — Habakkuk 3:18

Christians are supposed to be happy persons! Our generation has become well versed in Christian terminology, but is remiss in the actual practice of Christ’s principles and teachings. Hence, our greatest need today is not more Christianity but more true Christians. The world can argue against Christianity as an institution, but there is no convincing argument against a person who, through the Spirit of God, has been made Christlike.

Such a person is a living rebuke to the selfishness, rationalism, and materialism of the day. Jesus said to the woman at Jacob’s well, “Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.” This sin-sick, disillusioned woman was the symbol of the whole race. Her longings were our longings! Her heart-cry was our heart-cry! Her disillusionment was our disillusionment! Her sin was our sin! But her Savior can be our Savior! Her forgiveness can be our forgiveness! Her joy can be our joy!

Prayer for the day: My soul delights in You, my God, and my Redeemer.
