The Word says that Jesus had a habit of going up the mountain to spend time with God. Luke 22:39 says, And He came out and went, as was His habit, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed Him (AMPC).

Jesus formed a habit of communicating with God every morning.

It has been said that if you do something consistently for 30 days, it will become a habit. You can either make or break a habit by consistently doing the same thing. Follow Jesus, and form a habit of starting your day with prayer.

Prayer Starter: Father, I want to make a habit of spending time with You. You are my Source of help and strength, and I can’t have any real success in life without You. Help me to today to begin spending regular time with You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Topic: Do The Word [TREM Devotional 7 January 2019]

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22 KJV

Yesterday, I talked to you about taking responsibility. Today I am taking it a little farther to dare you to obey the Word to the letter.

Every day you encounter the Word, either in your personal devotion, family altar or in church, don’t just rush through it. Listen for instructions. Be open to hear what the Lord will want you to do. Don’t listen with a mindset of going to talk to someone else; first of all, receive the Word for yourself. Are you a leader, at any level, either at home, in the workplace or in the church? Don’t reduce the study of the Word to the time you are on the roaster to exhort. No! Read the Bible for yourself. It is the manual for your life, not to teach others, but to apply to yourself. It is only when you are a doer of the Word that you qualify to teach others too; otherwise, you will be passing head-knowledge that only excites and does not transform.

When the Word is going out, ask yourself: what adjustments do I need to make in my life to align with the Word? As you listen with a mindset to apply the Word, you will see the Holy Spirit opening your heart to various areas of the Word and showing you the steps to take and as you take those steps, you will enjoy incredible testimonies.

The truth is that God is ever ready to bless His children. All that He will do, He has done. He has perfected the work since eternity, but He is waiting for His children to walk in it.

No matter how God loves you, there are some things He cannot do for you. He has empowered you to do them and the ball is in your court. Don’t try to ‘second-guess’ God; once you receive instructions from His mouth, be quick to obey and watch God perfect all that concerns you.

Text: Psalm 12:1-8 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men“ (Psalm 12:1).

MESSAGE:

The United States Marine Corp clearly states that they want “a few good men.” Honestly, only the best of the bests make it through the training. We have heard a song written by Bill Gaither, stating that Jesus needs a few good men. God wants men who are good and godly as well. Not all men are necessarily godly.

The psalmist lamented the scarcity of godly men on earth. He observed that the world was full of lies and deceit. Many people cannot be trusted because they lie one to another. Despite the apparent drop in trust due to double dealing, the Word of God remains pure as silver; purified and clean. The difference between the Word and the deeds of men is as far as the East from the West and as clear as the day is from the night.

It is a paradox when the system punishes someone who is righteous and upholds the truth and equity. Deceit has become the order of the day in some places. Faithfulness is no longer rewarded and cherished as it should be. In some corrupt countries today, people who get rich through unlawful means are celebrated rather than investigated and put in jail.

That does not mean the whole world is corrupt and ungodly. There are a few godly men and women today who model righteousness through the transformation that has taken place in their lives when they made Jesus Christ their Lord and Saviour. They hold the fort, and shine the light in their work places, homes and the communities where they live. A great reward awaits all who live godly and faithful in the world to come. Such must be the examples of God’s saints who radiate as lights in a depraved world.

Thought For The Day: It is wisdom to be a beacon of light in a world steeped in darkness.

TOPIC: Who Is The Greatest? (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 7 January 2019)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Luke 22:24-30

MEMORY VERSE: “And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.” – Luke 9:48

The MESSAGE:

The dispute as to who was the greatest arose among Jesus Christ’s disciples. It was to the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry. He nipped the matter in the bud because He adjudged strife as counter-productive. It would destroy their assignment rather than help fulfil it. Though He was about to eat His last Passover on earth with them and what preoccupied His mind at that time was how to accomplish and complete His mission; however, the strife among His disciples was an issue He would not allow to take root at all.

First, He noted that the disciples’ attitude was a selfish one (seeking position of honour). It reeked of covetousness. Jesus corrected them by saying that their thinking was that of pagans. As for Heaven-bound followers of His that they were, the Bible says, “And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But he shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.”

It is clear that the disciples missed the point on how one could become great in the kingdom of God. Many of us are also guilty of this. We seek greatness in God’s kingdom, in the church, the society and our workplaces the wrong way. The Bible says that by knowledge shall the just be delivered (Proverbs 11:9).

Let us note that Jesus had previously promised that His faithful disciples would be honoured along with Him, but their positions would be determined by their genuine, godly and faithful service, not by their covetousness. In John 13, Jesus gave His disciples a good example of how to serve. He washed their feet. Though there were servants assigned to perform that task, He chose to serve His disciples. Today’s society encourages us to strive to be great at all costs, seek and get to the top by hook or by crook, vie for highest position in the organisation we work and the church we worship with the motive of lording it over others. Jesus said all these are ways of the unbelievers. Whatever position you seek or are in already, you should learn from Jesus Christ to serve. Servanthood in the position of leadership is the right kingdom attitude!

Topic: God Has Something to Say [Kenneth Copeland Devotional 7 January 2019]

The sheep listen to [the Shepherd’s] voice and heed it; and he calls his own sheep by name and brings (leads) them out. – John 10:3, The Amplified Bible

Don’t ever be so afraid of making a mistake you miss out on the joy of acting on the voice of the Lord. Instead, trust the leadership of the Holy Spirit and let Him show you how. He’ll begin by speaking to you about the little things in your life, and as you grow accustomed to hearing and obeying, He’ll speak to you about weightier things.

That’s how it happened with Gloria and me. When we first accepted Jesus as Lord, we didn’t have any idea how to hear God. Our spirits weren’t yet trained to distinguish His leading. But since the Bible promised we could do it, we began to approach our prayer time and Bible study time expecting to hear God’s direction and He began to give it.

I’ll never forget the first time it happened to Gloria. She’d been reading the Bible and she just stopped for a few minutes to see if God would say something to her. Right down on the inside of her, she heard the Lord say, The light is on in your car.

It didn’t occur to her that God would speak to her about something so trivial, so she just brushed that thought aside and went on listening. Pretty soon, He said the same thing again. He kept on repeating it until finally, she got up and walked out to the car. Sure enough, the light was on.

Why would God bother with something as insignificant as a car light? Because He cares! He knew Gloria was home alone that night with two small children, and if that battery had run down, she’d have been stuck there. God was watching out for her, and He told her just exactly what she needed to know right then.

Yet, at the same time, He knew she was a beginner where listening to His voice was concerned, so He gave her an instruction she could follow without much risk. I mean, what if she had gone out there and the light hadn’t been on? What if she’d missed it? She would have felt foolish but that wouldn’t have hurt anything.

If you’ll trust Him, the Holy Spirit will do the same thing for you that He did for Gloria and me. He’ll bring you along one step at a time in a way that will help you, not hurt you.

The biggest mistake you can make is to be afraid to follow that inward witness which is the No. 1 way God leads all His children (Romans 8:14). So don’t be afraid. Take time to listen today. Expect to hear in your spirit. God has something to say to you.

Luke 1:41, “And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost.”

Text: Luke 1:39-56

Upon hearing the greeting of Mary, John the Baptist leaped for joy inside his mother’s womb (v. 44). A six month old fetus experienced unbridled emotion, voluntarily leaped for joy and was actually filled with the Holy Spirit.

It is no coincidence that the man Jesus called the greatest of all Old Testament prophets, was the only man in the Bible to be filled with the Holy Ghost from his mother’s womb (Lk. 7:28).

The anointing of God that breaks every yoke is simply the manifest presence and working of the Holy Spirit (Isa. 10:27). The Holy Spirit is the part of the Godhead that empowers us for service.

God is not asking us to live for Him. He is asking us to let Him live through us (Gal. 2:20). The Christian life is not a changed life but an exchanged life. This can only be accomplished when the Holy Spirit is leading and empowering us.

Even Jesus didn’t begin His ministry until he was anointed with the Holy Spirit and He was the sinless Son of God. How much more do we need to depend on the power of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. Today, be conscious of the presence of the Holy Spirit in you and expect Him to supernaturally guide and empower you.
