Seeds of Destiny 25 December 2018 Devotional – The Power of Christmas

Topic: The Power of Christmas [Seeds of Destiny 25 December 2018 Devotional]

Scripture: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Thought For The Day: Jesus is the Maker, the Changer and Re-writer of history.

The most powerful and mysterious event in the history of mankind was the birth of Jesus Christ. The Christmas season is a time set aside by Christians to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is, therefore, important to know that there is a power surrounding the birth of Christ.

Now, what is the power of Christmas?

  1. The Power of Unnatural Conception
The conception of Jesus took place without the biological process of conception. It was the demonstration of the supremacy of Divinity.
This implies that every time you are at a junction of your life and a natural law is trying to clash with a spiritual law, the natural must give way for the spiritual. The physical must give way for the Divine.
  2. The Power that Changed History
The birth of Christ became the demarcation point of history. Every event before the birth of Christ is termed, “BC”, that is, before Christ. And every subsequent event, that is, event after the birth of Christ is termed: “AD”, that is, Anno Domini, Latin for, In the Year of our Lord. Thus Jesus Christ became the central part of history. If Jesus Christ is removed from history, the arrangement of history will scatter. Jesus is the Maker, the Changer and the Re-writer of history.

Beloved, if Jesus is the Lord of your life, He has the capacity to re-write the history of your life and give you a desired future.

Remember This: Jesus is the Maker, the Changer and the Re-writer of history.

Assignments:

  1. Appreciate God for the benefits of redemption and the power of Christmas.
  2. Ask God on this day to change and re-write the history of your life if you do not like the direction your life is headed.

Prayer: O Lord, I thank You for the benefits of redemption. I ask that You change every negative history in my life and grant me my desired future, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 25 December 2018 – Wise Men Indeed

Open Heaven 25 December 2018 Tuesday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Wise Men Indeed

Topic: Wise Men Indeed (Open Heaven 25 December 2018)

Memorise: “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.”- Proverbs 9:9

Read: Matthew 2:9-15 (KJV)

9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

Open Heaven 25 December 2018 Tuesday MESSAGE:

One proof that a man is wise is that he listens to instruction and takes to correction. In this regard, Proverbs 10:8 says:

“The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.”

Wisdom is considered to be the correct application of knowledge; it is therefore a wise thing to seek knowledge. The wise men from the east demonstrated their wisdom by applying their knowledge of stars to seek after the new-born King Jesus. Wisdom is not determined by the number of academic qualifications gathered but by the products of the quest for knowledge. These wise men saw a unique star, and they sought after its meaning until it led them to the Bright and Morning Star. For two years, they were resolute in finding the new-born King. The learned rabbis in Israel did not see what the wise men saw, even though it was happening in their own backyard. How amazing! Of course, this is why these men from the east were considered to be wise. Although only God knows what these wise men did with their discovery of the Kings of the Jews, also born to be the King of the world, their wisdom would have been in doubt if they had not heeded the Lord’s instruction that they should not return to King Herod. Their efforts would have been wasted and they would have gone back to their country frustrated and in sorrow, because the wicked King Herod would have slaughtered the Holy Child right before them. Thank God they were not just philosopher and theologians, but also men who heard from God. They were not carried away by the allure of gifts they would have received from the king for their great discovery; rather, they heeded the voice of the Lord. This world would have been a better place if our philosophers and theologians were also prophets.

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7

The wisdom of God in the above scripture recommends that we deploy everything we have in the quest for understanding the surest way of getting understanding is through the scriptures. Unfortunately, some foolish people who think they are wise are always undermining the Bible, which is the true source of knowledge and understanding (Psalm 119:104). Beloved, ensure that your knowledge is based on the word of God, and that your understanding of things is influenced by the mind of God as revealed in his word. Merry Christmas!

Open Heaven 25 December 2018 Tuesday Key Point:

Always seeking after the interest of God’s Kingdom, which Jesus Christ came to establish in this world, makes you wise indeed.

Open Heaven 25 December 2018 Tuesday Hymn 4: Trust and Obey

1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4. But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

Welby should keep political views to himself say Brits

Welfare, tax and inequality are just some of the things Justin Welby has spoken out against this year.

A YouGov poll for the Times asked whether his interventions were appropriate following criticism from politicians.

44 per cent said they weren’t, 35 per cent said they were with 21 per cent saying they didn’t know.

When asked specifically about what he had said this year, the majority of people sided with him.

Earlier this month, the archbishop denied he had gone too far in his political statements.

BBC

Defending himself on the Andrew Marr show on BBC One, he said: “If I really want to read the Bible and what the prophets and what Jesus said – then I haven’t gone too far.

“I’m not party political, i’m not a member of any political party…I simply try to speak from the Christian scriptures about the values Jesus put forward himself.”

In response to the YouGov poll, Lambeth Palace said staying silent would be like ripping out whole sections of the Bible: “The archbishop has been asked by some to stay out of politics.

“His response is that is not what Jesus did. No wing of party politics, left or right, can claim God as being on its side.

“But Jesus was highly political and if we are to follow him then we must share his concern for justice, and for the poorest and most vulnerable.”

Church facing costly repairs and closure after thieves start blaze

Greater Manchester Police is investigating the blaze at Heaton Park Methodist Church on Bury Old Road, at around 8pm on Saturday.

The building was severely damaged in the fire, while several computer items were also stolen.

Rev Jez Hackett told the Press Association: “Thankfully the fire seems to have been contained to just one room, the prayer room, but this is obviously a pretty nasty thing to happen, particularly at this time of year.

“We have had to cancel services at this church, although thankfully the Prestwich Methodist Church is just down the road so we will be moving services there.

“But we also run a night shelter for refugees and offer food for children on free school meals, so we don’t know what is going to happen with that now.”

He said insurers were due to visit the church in the coming days, but did not expect the church to re-open until at least mid-January.

Chief Inspector Jamie Collins, of GMP’s Bury borough, said: “There’s no way to describe the offenders’ actions, other than to say they were disgusting.

“To break into a church, set a fire and then steal valuables would be bad enough any other time of the year but to do it a few days before Christmas, which is a time when many people turn to their church, is nothing short of disgusting.

“I know this incident will cause a lot of upset locally but I want to reassure the people of Bury that we are…

One of the world’s biggest Christian bands asks for prayer as guitarist battles cancer

In a long statement on the band’s website, front man Jon Foreman announced the “sobering news”.

He said: “I got a call from Jerome a few weeks ago. He was calling with sobering news: he has cancer.

“One of Jerome’s kidneys has a large mass on it that has been growing for quite some time.

“The good news is that the cancer has not spread to his other organs. Removing one of his kidneys will hopefully be the first and final cure for Jerome’s fight with cancer.

“The surgeons and the medical team have been incredibly accommodating, making sure that the surgery was scheduled as soon as possible.”

Fontamillas, 51, joined the band back in 2003.

In a note to fans, he said: “We’ve been through so much as a band. This is just one more mountain to climb, one more storm to weather. I know we’ll get to the other side.

“And I look forward to having more reasons to be thankful when all of this is behind us. We will give you an update when we have news to tell you.

“Thanks again for years of love and support. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you, we look forward to telling you some good news in the near future.”

Christmas pushed out as China’s leaders emphasise tradition

Even the giant teddy bear at the entrance was not spared, said Ma Jun, who works at a tutoring company in the building.

“Everything is gone and cleaned,” she said.

Christmas continues to be a shopping festival across most of China, with huge trees adorning shopping centres in Shanghai and Beijing.

But a growing emphasis on traditional culture by the ruling Communist Party, and the systematic suppression of religion under President Xi Jinping are imperilling Father Christmas’s position.

At least four Chinese cities and one county have banned Christmas decorations this year, according to official notices and interviews.

Students, teachers and parents from schools around China told The Associated Press that Christmas celebrations have been curtailed.

“The ongoing local reaction against Christmas is part of the wider sentiment since Xi took power,” said Zi Yang, from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore.

Xi is trying to broaden the appeal of the Communist Party by casting it as a crusader for Chinese tradition in a fast-changing world, he said.

“Therefore, foreign cultural elements such as Christmas are placed on the chopping block.”

It appears not to be centrally organised, but rather a spreading resistance to foreign festivals by local authorities seeking to align themselves with the growing tide of cultural nationalism.

The squeeze on Christmas…

Quit Wishing “Merry Christmas” to Fight Bigotry, Columnist Challenges

Quit Wishing “Merry Christmas” to Fight Bigotry, Columnist Challenges

Approaching a stranger with a warm greeting of “Merry Christmas” is a declaration of ignorance, and replacing it with “Happy Holidays” would do wonders in aiding the battle against prejudice, explains an opinion writer published in The Star this week.

As a section of a “Big Debate” feature on the legitimacy of the Christmas greeting, the Toronto newspaper printed a piece by Sadie-Rae Werner, a senior economics student at the Minerva Schools at KGI and founder and editor-in-chief of the school’s independent student news outlet The Minerva Quest. Her response is an emphatic “no,” opening with discontent that Starbucks backtracked after its 2015 move to eliminate Christmas-specific imagery from its holiday cups.

“When 500 Starbucks cups going walking down the street covered in Christmas trees and reindeer they are sending a definite message about the reigning position of Christianity in our purportedly secular society,” Werner declared. “The red cup was a step toward atoning for the overt lack of inclusion of other religions in corporate holiday celebrations.”

Although the elimination of Christmas-specific language and imagery is a cause of controversy each year, few (if any) Christians challenge businesses that recognize the holidays of different faiths.

Werner, however, laments the “open disregard and, at times, disdain” she claims…

2018: Reflections from the editor

While the rest of the media was getting caught up in the Brexit chaos, here at Premier we were at the Supreme Court as Belfast based Ashers Bakery won the right to refuse to make cakes promoting gay marriage.

While the rest of the media were monitoring every word which left the mouth of President Trump, here at Premier we were hearing from Christians in Pakistan celebrating the release of Asia Bibi.

While the rest of the media were caught up in the mocking of Theresa May’s dancing, here at Premier we were speaking to guests attending the funeral of Billy Graham.

I say that, not to belittle the important news (dancing aside!) from what has been a year dominated by politics, but to showcase the very different product that we offer here at Premier to other news outlets.

The team works very hard to ensure we cover the issues directly affecting Christians around the world, enabling you to be informed but also showing how you can be praying into these stories.

Across the year, we’ve covered close to 3,000 stories. Some will have inspired you, some will have angered you, some of them will have made you smile – as long as they’re creating some form of response we’re doing something right!

We were really interested to see the ten most popular articles of the year and surprised not see some of the stories you may have expected to be there.

We often predict which stories will…

What Apollo 8 told the Earth 50 years ago today

On Christmas Eve in 1968, as the astronauts of Apollo 8 circled the moon, they broadcast a message back to Earth. They were told that they would have the largest audience that had ever heard a human voice.

What would they choose to say?

Lunar Module Pilot William Anders began: “For all the people on Earth the crew of Apollo 8 has a message we would like to send you:

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.”

Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell continued:

“And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.”

Commander Frank Borman ended their Christmas Eve broadcast:

“And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth: and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.”

Borman then added: “And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you–all of you on the good Earth.”
