Trailblazing Pope Francis to visit Abu Dhabi

He will embark on a three-day trip to Abu Dhabi on 3rd February 2018 to attend an interfaith meeting, the Vatican announced.

The news was welcomed in a statement released by Bishop Paul Hinder, a leader of the Catholic Church in UAE, Oman and Yemen.

He said: “I wish that the short visit be a moment of deepening our faith and our adherence to the bishop of Rome who is the head of the college of all bishops.

“Please pray that the visit will be a spiritual event. Pray for the rulers of this country who make the visit possible.”

Francis has promoted inter-religious dialogue during previous visits to other Muslim-majority nations – including Turkey, Jordan and Egypt.

He was invited to the UAE by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Catholic Church in UAE.

Greg Burke from the Holy See Press Office said the theme of the visit will be ‘make…

Five Types of Interventions for Churches Needing Revitalization

Podcast Episode #491

Interventions can meet a great need in churches—and many churches need them. Today we discuss five types of interventions, and I tell the story of my strangest church consultation moment.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • Online coaching has the potential to help pastors and churches in a way we’ve never seen before.
  • One of the greatest encouragements to pastors is them knowing they are not going through something alone.
  • Revitalization requires a decision to stop doing what a church has been doing to decline and start doing something else in order to grow.
  • Knowing when it’s time to pass the baton to the next leader is a difficult decision for a leader to make.

The five intervention types we cover are:

  1. Coaching intervention
  2. Consulting intervention
  3. Community intervention
  4. Relaunching intervention
  5. Leadership intervention

TREM Devotional 7 December 2018 – Your Sacrifice Will Announce You

Topic: Your Sacrifice Will Announce You [TREM Devotional 7 December 2018]

“There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. Matthew 26:7

Jesus visit to the house of Simon the leper would have passed like one of those visits if not for the action of a woman. Jesus was obviously not visiting this house for the first time. But this time there was a difference. A woman did something out of the ordinary. She broke an Alabaster Box of ointment and everything changed. Her sacrifice brought about two very different reactions: some were upset that she could go all out for Jesus. They were filled with indignation and began to murmur. Interestingly, one of the disciples of Jesus also murmured. You would have thought that if everyone else murmured, not a member of the inner caucus, Jesus’ immediate constituency, the disciples. Is that not like today? Rather than encourage someone who is labouring in the Kingdom, some people sit back and just grumble. But like the woman, don’t be discouraged. She did not look for the applause of man, she broke the Alabaster Box and let out the rich fragrance that changed the entire environment.

Then there was the second group of people, and this is where Jesus was. Like the popular saying, one with God is majority. It is not about the number, if God applauds you, no one can put you down. While the murmuring was going on and probably growing louder, Jesus shut them up. In verse 10, He said “Let her alone…”. Are you there sacrificing for the Kingdom and it appears that no one is encouraging you? You are not alone, it happened to Mary. But be encouraged, that singular act gave her a place in the scriptures. In the same way, your act, though it looks insignificant to man, is recognized by God. Stay consistent. It may be cleaning the restroom, keep at it. God will visit you in the place of service. Today, wherever the gospel is preached, Mary’s name is mentioned, just like Jesus said. In the same way, your service will announce you in Jesus’ name.

Preparation for Greatness by David Ibiyeomie

Preparation for Greatness by David Ibiyeomie

Topic: Preparation for Greatness

Preparation is becoming ready for what is desired. Adequate preparation will always receive glorious manifestations. You can’t receive from God until you are prepared.

2 Chronicles 27:6 (KJV) So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God.

It is those who prepare their ways that will make waves and those who cause waves bring news. If you don’t want to be dethroned, prepare your throne. In life, you don’t get ready; you live ready. Poor preparation will deliver poor results because anything you do not take seriously will not produce serious results. No matter your goal, you must make personal preparations. You become a champion by preparation. Talent is worthless without preparations. The future belongs to only those who prepare adequately. Spiritual preparation determines the results you get in the physical because the physical is controlled by the spiritual.

Galatians 2:21 (KJV) I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

When you do nothing about Grace, you frustrate it. God gives you divine ability but you must take the responsibility. Most people who sit down to analyze occurrences in life don’t go far.

How to prepare for greatness:

1. Be focused – Once you are specific, things will go dynamic. Distractions are side attractions wanting to get your attention to keep you in detention. Fix your eyes on the goal you intend to achieve and understand that distractions are only temporal. The greatest enemy of focus is distraction.

2. Be persistentMatthew 24:13 (KJV) But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Have a never give-up mentality.

3. Prepare your heartJeremiah 29:12-13 (KJV) Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Heart preparation determines earth manifestations.

4. Have faith – Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

To be great, you have to have faith in God that He is able to help you achieve greatness. God is not moved by your emotions but by your faith so commit Him to perform by having unflinching faith in Him.

5. Make sacrifices – Luke 9:23 (KJV) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
You must pay the price to obtain the prize. Your preparation should be at the expense of your pleasure.

6. Be expectant – Proverbs 23:18 (KJV) For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
If you expect nothing, you will get nothing.

As you prepare adequately to achieve greatness, the divine ability of God answers to you in Jesus name. Amen.

God bless you.

MFM Daily Devotional 7 December 2018 – Wait On The Lord For His Manifestation

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 7 December 2018 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Wait On The Lord For His Manifestation

TOPIC: Wait On The Lord For His Manifestation (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 7 December 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 40:28-31

MEMORY VERSE: “The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.” – Nahum 1:7

The MESSAGE:

Patiently waiting on the Lord always ends up with a pleasing outcome. The end results are always very rewarding but most of the time, the cost of waiting is the problem. The cost of waiting on the Lord is all about the willingness to trust Him and the ability to endure.

In Isaiah 40:31, the Bible says: “…Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength, they will mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall run and not faint.”

Waiting on the LORD entails a lot of things, but not limited to the following:
1. It is to have strong belief in the Lord without wavering.
2. It is all about being focused.
3. It is to determine that your obedience to the Lord will be complete: which means that you will hold on to Him until He accomplishes that thing you are expecting from Him.
4. It is to trust Him to the end without doubting His ability to give you what you are expecting from Him.

The Bible says those that wait on the LORD shall renew their strength. This implies that because of your complete trust in Him, He will keep nurturing you until the time or day of your fulfilment. He will keep sustaining you until the BIG or REAL thing comes through.

The fact that you are waiting for your BIG request or testimony from God to materialise will not stop Him from nurturing you on the basis of your daily needs. He will keep nurturing and sustaining you until those GREAT demands of yours come to reality.

When you find yourself in the category of people waiting on the LORD, you would realise that there are times you will be thinking of how to meet immediate needs perhaps, the time to pay house rent has come or may be payment of school fees or meeting some other financial obligations. You would soon come to realise that, God, Jehovah El-Rohi, the one who sees the end from the beginning, would orchestrate help and you will definitely meet those needs, no matter how tough the situation may be. Sometimes, it may even seem as if you and your family will not be able to feed in the days ahead, but suddenly, help comes from seemingly nowhere but from above. Therefore, be encouraged, O child of God, for He who has promised has not forgotten you; He will surely renew you in strength. As He renews you in strength at the right time, He said, you would mount up with wings like eagles, taking you higher and higher to an unexpected height because of your endurance. Wait, therefore on Him today and if nothing seems to be happening, just keep waiting.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
THOSE WHO TRUST IN HIM ARE NEVER DISAPPOINTED. HOLD FAST TO HIM, HE WILL NOT FORGET YOU BUT WILL KEEP SUSTAINING AND NURTURING YOU.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Your enemies shall not rejoice over you.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Power to make it in life, locate me by fire, in the name of Jesus.
2. Any power that says: “You will never make it in life”, you are a liar, die, in the name of Jesus.
3. The position that none of my family members has occupied before, I take it by fire, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Every book of failure that has been opened for my destiny, catch fire, in the name of Jesus.
5. Thou Goliath of my destiny, your time is up, fall down and die, in the name of Jesus.
6. I declare that I am not a ground person, I belong to the eagle’s club. By the power in the blood of Jesus, I move higher, in the name of Jesus.
7. Star of my destiny, keep shining from now on, in the name of Jesus.

DCLM Daily Manna 7 December 2018 – Serve Him Unconditionally

Topic: Serve Him Unconditionally [DCLM Daily Manna 7 December 2018 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Luke 9:52-62 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God (Luke 9:62).

MESSAGE:

In pursuing a course of action, many will opt for the path of least resistance. Very few will plod daunting avenues laden with thorns and thistles. Besides, partners in a venture want to undertake such strictly on the terms that appeal to individual whims. Even so, adhering to strict, altruistic convictions is not easy to come by.

Our text captures the experience of the Lord Jesus Christ as He charted the daunting course to Jerusalem, where He paid the supreme price for man’s sin. He had set His face as a flint on this journey and nothing, not even the agony of death, could alter this course. As He proceeded, there emerged diverse responses from His disciples and other allies. An acquaintance wanted to follow the Lord, without a thorough knowledge of its implications. Another wanted to bury the dead before becoming a real disciple, while another requested a ceremonial goodbye before accepting the call to follow the Lord. Evidently, these men did not comprehend the demands of discipleship. To them, following Jesus was conditional and for reasons that oddly verged between the violent and the permissive.

God’s call to all is lofty and holy. Those with discernment accept the call with sobriety, without the usual recourse to a pleasurable and a compromising existence. They understand that the call is laden with suffering, persecution and tribulation but the aftermath is always glorious and rewarding. Christ’s call to all requires unswerving conviction and focused commitment. The call, once accepted, is on His terms only. Only those who gratefully accept the call and submit to the majesty of God’s will despite the odds that will eventually receive His crown and enjoy His eternal fellowship.

Thought For The Day: Following Christ entails a complete emptiness of self.

Open Heavens for Teens 7 December 2018 – Sick and Sickness

Topic: Sick and Sickness [Open Heavens for Teens 7 December 2018]

Memorise: Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. John 5:14

Read: John 5:14-16 (KJV)

Bible In One Year: Daniel 9-10, 2 John 1

MESSAGE:

One major cause of sickness is sin. if you live a holy life, sin-induced ailments may never be able to penetrate your body, in Psalm 119:67, the Psalmist observed that before afflictions came to him, he had veered off the path of righteousness. If you are toying with sin, you are sending an invitation to sickness. If you want to live healthy, keep away from sin and obey God’s Word.

Another cause of sickness is defying God’s order on Holy Communion. 1 Corinthians 11:27-30 says whenever you take the Holy Communion unworthily, you send and invitation to weakness. If this trend continues, your invitation will extend to sickness and thereafter death. Are you always feeling weak, tired and always wanting to rest even when you have not done any strenuous work? Examine yourself! Are you sick? Is the sickness as a result of sin or violation of the Holy Communion? Repent today and turn a new leaf.

Key Point: Sin and sickness are related. Wherever you find one, you will most likely find the other.

Hymn 7:

1. I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

George H.W. Bush’s ‘Quiet Faith’ Remembered at Cathedral Funeral

WASHINGTON (RNS) — Former President George H.W. Bush was recalled as a man of “quiet faith” during a state funeral at Washington National Cathedral, a fitting site to memorialize the longtime Episcopalian.

“With faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the body of our brother George for burial,” intoned Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry at the start of the Wednesday (Dec. 5) ceremony as the 41st president’s casket was carried by military members into the cathedral.

All of the living former and current presidents — Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Donald Trump — joined the 3,000 dignitaries, family and friends at the invitation-only ceremony.

The senior Bush’s eldest child, former President George W. Bush, gave an emotional tribute to his father, highlighting his service to country and his focus on giving back to others.

“Dad taught us that public service is noble and necessary, that one can serve with integrity and hold true to the important values like faith and family,” the 43rd president said. “To us, his was the brightest of a thousand points of light.”

Other family members took turns reading Scripture, including Jenna Bush Hager — daughter of the 43rd president — who touched her grandfather’s flag-draped casket before she read from Revelation 21, whose first verse begins: “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth.”

The Rev. Russell Levenson Jr., rector of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, said the elder Bush made Levenson’s job as his pastor for almost a dozen years…

Most Transgender Kids Will Change Back When Older, Studies Show

Most Transgender Kids Will Change Back When Older, Studies Show

Experts in the field are urging caution for parents of transgender children and teens, citing studies that show minors often change their minds about transitioning when they’re adults.

The phenomenon of kids and teens changing their minds about their transgender status once they grow older is called “desistance,” according to KQED, a public radio station in San Francisco. This happens — for example — when a child who is born male identifies as a girl during the child or teens years but then changes back to a male identity when an adult.

Studies show that anywhere from 63 to 94 percent of self-identified transgender children and teens change their minds, KQED reported.

“Problem is, nobody can tell the difference between the kids who will continue to have gender dysphoria and those who will not,” Dr. Jack Drescher, a Columbia University professor, told KQED.

Drescher urges caution on the use of surgery, which can be difficult to “undo.” Surgery isn’t available until age 18 for transgender teens.

In 2013, Amsterdam researcher Thomas Steensma released a study showing that 63 percent of transgender teens he studied had desisted by the ages of 15-16. Drescher works at the Center of Expertise on Gender Dysphoria.

Despite criticism of the study, Steensma said, “the only evidence I have from studies and reports in the literature … is that not…

Virginia High School Teacher Faces Possible Termination after Declining to Use Transgender Student’s Preferred Pronouns

Virginia High School Teacher Faces Possible Termination after Declining to Use Transgender Student’s Preferred Pronouns

A Virginia teacher was put on administrative leave after using feminine pronouns while addressing a student who was born female, but chooses to identify as male.

Peter Vlaming, the teacher in question, stated: “I won’t use male pronouns with a female student that now identifies as a male though I did agree to use the new masculine name but avoid female pronouns.”

“Administration is requiring that I use masculine pronouns in any and every context at school. I was informed that any further instances of using female pronouns would be grounds for termination.”

Vlaming, who teaches French at West Point High School, is currently on paid administrative leave awaiting a public hearing by the school board that’s set to take place later in the week.

An online petition was created by those in support of the teacher requesting that he not be fired, and received over 1,100 signatures by Wednesday morning.

ABC news affiliate WRIC in Richmond contacted a few of Vlaming’s students regarding the controversy. One of the students that spoke with the news outlet declared that he was “outraged” over the teacher possibly facing termination.

“He’s a really nice guy, he wanted to do everything about his students. He really does care about his students,” the student stated. “The thing he will not do is change his…
