FIRE SCRIPTURE: Psalm 29:3-11

MEMORY VERSE: “But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.” – Exodus 23:22

The MESSAGE:

There are different voices that speak to human beings. The devil tries to confuse believers by sending voices from the pit of hell to them. It is the work of believers to try to distinguish between the voices they hear as the ability to distinguish between these voices makes one a true Christian. Also, God speaks in different ways. He may decide to speak through the prophets, through the reading of His words and most importantly, through the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Two salient things you need the most to make it in life are your ability to recognise the voice of God from any other voice when He speaks to you and your ability to obey Him. A lot of believers actually hear the voice of God but disregard it because it is not what their itching ears want to hear or because most of the time, what God is saying goes against the gains of their personal agenda. It is, however, dangerous to pretend that God has not been speaking to you because it is only the power of that voice that can turn your situation around.

In Exodus 23:20-21, God says: “Behold, I send an Angel before you, to keep you in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.” The truth is that, once you listen to Him and obey His voice, He will keep you in the way until you come to your Promised Land. As believers, God is always, God is always interested in speaking to us but it is our inability to listen to Him when He speaks that is the problem. To hear from God, we must always be in the spirit. The Bible says: “God is Spirit and they that worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:24). John the beloved said: “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day” (Revelation 1:10a). It then means that to hear from God, we must be in the spirit.

Come closer to Him today by reading His word, and you will hear that voice, that still small voice meant to comfort you.

5. Every stubborn longtime problem that has refused to let me rest, by the voice of the LORD, be cursed now to your root, in the name of Jesus.
6. By the power in the voice of the LORD, I reject failure, in the name of Jesus.
7. Thou power of the voice of the LORD, liberate me completely from every entanglement of darkness, in the name of Jesus.

Topic: You Are Precious To God [TREM Devotional 5 December 2018]

“Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.” Isaiah 43:4

Don’t ever look down on yourself. One very potent tool in the hands of the devil is self-doubt. When people don’t believe in you, it is one thing, but when you do not believe in yourself, it is quite another and indeed the latter is worse than the former. If no one believes in you and you believe in yourself, God can turn things around in your favour, but when you do not believe in yourself, it is like calling God a liar. Wow! That is strong you may say, but that is the truth. When you don’t believe in yourself, when God believes in you, you cannot walk in the newness of life He has made available to you through His blood.

In our text today, God says you are precious in His sight. Stop and think about it; if God calls you precious, how then should you carry yourself? He did not say you are precious in the sight of man, but precious in His own sight. He saw you in your mess and still chose to pay the price for your redemption, because you are precious to Him. Yes, you may have missed it repeatedly, but that has not diminished your importance in the Kingdom, He still says you are precious. Even when you think you are down and out and like Naomi, when she was returning from the land of Moab told the people, call me not Naomi (which means pleasant) but call me Mara (which means bitterness), God still looked at her and from her daughter-in-law, God raised Obed the grandfather of David of the lineage of Jesus. Can you see that? What can be worse than that. She looked at herself and wrote herself off, but mercy reached out to her and God restored her.

If that happened to Naomi under the Old Covenant, how much more you, under the New Covenant! You are precious to God. He shed His blood just because of you. Don’t give up, don’t give in, don’t lose hope. Look up, it is a new dawn for you.

If we all live by this charge, by and by, the world would be reached or Christ.

Now, what is prayer?
Prayer is a platform for communion between God and man; it is the platform for the building, strengthening, and development of relationship between God and man. Relationship must precede request. To request for things from someone you have no relationship with makes one a beggar.

Every relationship must be serviced by communication. Communication breakdown equals relationship breakdown. A person’s relationship with God is confirmed by the buoyancy, vibrancy and liveliness of their prayer life.

Now, as a person communicates with God at the place of prayer, he has the opportunity to really know the God he is serving. Prayer brings you to a point where you are no longer a stranger to God, and thus, positions you for exploits.

Beloved, as you stand before God at the place of prayer consistently, may He open your eyes to see clearly the plans He has for you, in Jesus’ Name.

Remember This: A person’s relationship with God is confirmed by the buoyancy, vibrancy and liveliness of their prayer life.

1. Decide to make praying and studying of the Word of God part of your daily schedule.
2. Pray as often as you breathe.

Text: Exodus 2:23-25; 3:1-10 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows“ (Exodus 3:7).

MESSAGE:

The following statement was found penned on the wall of a prison cell in Europe: “I believe in love even when I don’t feel it. I believe in God even when He is silent.” Someone asked C.S. Lewis, “Why do the righteous suffer?” “Why not?” He replied; “they’re the only ones who can take it.”

From our text, the Israelites grew in number after the death of Joseph. The new Pharaoh that emerged at the time conveniently chose to forget Joseph’s contributions to the Egyptian economy and his good legacy, deciding rather to punish Israel with a view to breaking their will and reducing them to slaves in the process. Israelites, now facing pain and agony under the Egyptian oppressors, cried out to God who responded by assuring them that He hears, He sees and understands the sorrows of men. He sent Moses as a deliverer because He remembered His promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Many want to know why God allows suffering today. ‘If God is a loving God’, they say, ‘He would not allow natural disasters and wars that claim the lives of thousands’. The answers are not hard to find. God told Israel in Isaiah 59:1,2 that their iniquities had separated them from Him and made Him hide his face from attending to their cry. When Israel abandoned God and turned to idolatry in Egypt, the Lord allowed them to suffer at the hands of the Egyptian taskmasters, until they cried to the Lord in repentance.

Whatever we face today, we must understand that God sees, hears, knows and understands. He knows the oppressors and what they do to us. When we repent and turn away from our sins, He will protect and deliver us from all evils and make everything work out for our good and His glory.

My children have enjoyed the thrill of a backyard ice-skating rink during our cold Idaho winters. When they were young, learning to skate was challenging: persuading them to deliberately set foot on the hard, icy surface proved difficult because they knew the pain of falling. Each time their feet slid out from under them, my husband or I would reach out to pull them again to their feet, setting them upright and steadying their frames.

Having someone there to help us up when we fall is the gift of a helping hand depicted in Ecclesiastes. Working with another makes our work sweeter and more effective (4:9), and a friend brings warmth to our lives. When we encounter challenges, it helps to have someone come alongside with practical and emotional support. These relationships can give us strength, purpose, and comfort.

When we find ourselves flattened on the cold ice of life’s hardships, is there a helping hand nearby? If so, it might be from God. Or when someone else needs a friend, could we be God’s answer to lift them up? In being a companion, we often find one. If it appears that no one is nearby to lift us to our feet again, we can find comfort in knowing that God is our ever-present help (Psalm 46:1). As we reach out to Him, He’s ready to steady us with His firm grip.

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for helping me up when life knocks me down. Thank You for the people You’ve used to encourage and strengthen me. Yours is the most faithful friendship I have.

How can you open yourself more fully to God’s presence in your life?

INSIGHT:
The author of Ecclesiastes (“the Teacher,” 1:1–2) is in the midst of a long lament about the meaninglessness of living for this world only. This particular section concerns a lonely rich man the Teacher has observed. Perhaps he has trampled all others on his way to the top. (Think of Charles Dickens’s Ebenezer Scrooge.) Regardless of how the man got there, the author recognizes the futility of such efforts and concludes, “Two are better than one” (4:9).

Throughout Ecclesiastes, the Teacher’s larger point is that living with an earthbound view is cruelly dissatisfying. We toil and strive, yet we remain haunted by a vague sense that we’re missing something. As with all Scripture, Ecclesiastes must be understood within the context of the entire Bible. The early church fathers Jerome (ad 347–420) and Ambrose (ad 340–397) were among the first to note that the companion we’re missing is Christ Himself.
