Child problem gamblers surge is a generational scandal, says bishop

New statistics compiled by the Gambling Commission show the number of eleven-to-16-year-olds affected has quadrupled during two years to 55,000.

The Bishop of St Albans, Rt Rev Alan Smith said: “Today’s findings by the Gambling Commission make worrying reading and serve as a warning to parents.

“After years of progress, it seems the rates of children gambling are creeping back up.

“We need to start taking the dangers of gambling seriously – 55,000 children classed as problem gamblers is a generational scandal.”

According to an audit due to be published on Wednesday, 70,000 youngsters are considered at risk of becoming problem gamblers.

Seen by the Daily Mail, it concludes 450,000 kids are illegally using things like fruit machines, bingo and betting shops regularly – equating to one in seven aged between eleven and 16.

The audit found they spend £16 on average every week.

Bishop Alan continued: “However much the gambling industry says it is not targeting the young, it is clear that a significant minority of teenagers are still being drawn into gambling and it is no coincidence that one-in-six children have seen gambling adverts on social media.

“In-game gambling and loot-boxes are a new phenomenon and so require new answers.

“The world has changed since 2005 when the gambling sector was deregulated and so, sadly, has gambling.

“Therefore, government, local authorities,…

Church of England reveals £10,000 gender pay gap at national offices

Figures published by the Daily Mail show they typically earn £32,711 a year, compared to the £43,316 median average recorded for men.

They emerge two months after the Archbishop of Canterbury condemned the UK-wide gender pay gap of 8.6 per cent as unfair.

The statistics include almost 500 members of staff working at bodies including the Church of England’s financial wing, the Church Commissioners; and its executive body, the Archbishop’s Council.

They do not include clergy and other workers employed locally by individual dioceses.

A spokesman told the Mail that the gender pay gap had shrunk since last year but there are still fewer women holding senior posts.

Chris Radburn/PA Wire

They said: “We continue to see a large proportion of females in the lower and mid-lower quartiles compared to the UK average; this subsequently impacts on the average pay for females being lower than males.”

Carole Harden from the National Church Institutions – the collective name for seven national Church of England bodies – told the newspaper: “This year’s results are encouraging as we continue to review pay structures, addressing any imbalances and barriers to females and opportunities for advancement within the NCIs.

“We are committed to improving this further as we focus on reducing the difference in pay between men and women in more highly paid roles, and…

Christian barred from student group speaks of abuse she’s suffered on campus

Isabella Chow was dropped as a senator from the Student Action party, whom she had represented at the Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC) student senate.

Speaking to Fox News Channel, she said: “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been called the f-word in person, online, on social media or on the senate floor.

“There are other slurs which I just don’t want to repeat on-camera.”

Chow, who is also facing calls to stand down as a senator completely, abstained from a student senate vote held last month on a motion expressing support for transgender and non-binary identities.

The Queer Alliance Resource Centre started a petition demanding that she resign. It accused her of voicing “blatantly homophobic and transphobic views”.

The business and music student said discrimination was never OK but there were certain lifestyles she, as a Christian, could not endorse.

Chow claimed her words had been “twisted” to accuse her of being a “hater and a bigot”.

Speaking to Fox, she added: “I’ve gotten encouraging prayers from the Christian community. I’ve gotten encouraging support from conservative groups on campus.

“But, besides that, students are afraid to speak out, even if they support me…”

Chow also revealed she is seeking legal advice.

Joyce Meyer Devotional 21 November 2018 — Prayer Produces Peace

Topic: Prayer Produces Peace [Joyce Meyer Devotional 21 November 2018]

In this passage, the apostle Paul does not say, “Pray and worry.” Instead, he is saying “Pray and don’t worry.” Why are we to pray and not worry? Because prayer is an important way we cast our care upon the Lord. Prayer is what opens the door for God to work in our lives and the lives of other people.

When Satan tries to give us something to worry about, we can turn and give that care to God. If we pray about something and then keep on worrying about it, we are mixing a positive and a negative. The two cancel each other out so that we end up right back where we started—at zero.

Prayer is a positive force; worry is a negative force. The Lord has shown me the reason many people operate at zero power spiritually is that they cancel out their positive prayer power by giving in to the negative power of worry.

As long as we are worrying, we are not trusting God. It is only by trusting, by having faith and confidence in the Lord, that we are able to enter into His rest and enjoy the peace that transcends all understanding.

Prayer Starter: Father, I take a moment right now to lift up my needs to You. Help me with this day to trust You completely and receive Your peace, knowing You have everything under control. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Knowing God Personally by David Ibiyeomie

Knowing God Personally by David Ibiyeomie

Topic: Knowing God Personally

How do “you” see God?

Daniel 11:32b (KJV) but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

When you know God personally by having a cordial relationship with Him, you do exploits because you know what your father is capable of. It is your personal revelation that determines your exploits. Apostle Paul was already doing signs and wonders but he still prayed to know God more.

Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.

Paul prayed to have a deeper revelation of who God is. Many know God is powerful but they do not know him personally. See God from the eyes of the scriptures. When you worry, it is a sign that you don’t know God because if you know God, you will know what His word says and stop worrying.

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

That you do not sin does not mean that you know God; that you have been a Christian for years does not mean that you know God. The prodigal son who was seen as a sinner knew his father more than the good son that was with his father.

Also Read: Use The Available by David Ibiyeomie

Luke 15:17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger.

That you made mistakes does not mean you are not a child of God. The prodigal son realized his mistakes and decided to go back to his father. His father did not condemn him as he thought he would but embraced him and threw a party to celebrate his homecoming.

Some believers underestimate God with the kind of things they ask for because they do not know God personally. They just hear people say He is the owner of heaven and earth but have not experienced Him.

God has prepared the best for you and me; not for outsiders nor sinners. So ask for the best. Think big, talk big because your father is big. You can start small but you are not permitted to remain small.

To Moses, God revealed Himself as the ‘I am that I am’. To David, He revealed Himself as a conqueror; He never lost any battle. To Abraham, He revealed Himself as a provider – Jehovah Jireh.

He is God of all and reveals each side to any man as you seek Him. Never use another man’s revelation of God for yourself, who is God to you?

God bless you

Love: Foundation For A Healthy Family Relationship (Part 3) By Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Love: Foundation For A Healthy Family Relationship (Part 3) By Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic — Love: Foundation For A Healthy Family Relationship (Part 3)

Dear Reader,

Peace and blessings in the precious Name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. I welcome you to another interesting edition of these teaching series. Last week, I started with some practical ways that a man can express love to his wife has a husband and function as a father, husband and spiritual head in his home.

We saw how that God’s love is unconditional and expressive and that the man is to love his wife and family members, not because of what they do or do not do, but because it was commanded and not optional; love is not real until it is expressed and demonstrated.

Today I shall be showing you the love role of the woman and the practical ways she can demonstrate her love to her husband and every member of the family in thoughts, words and actions.

The woman just like the man has roles to play in the home, if it must be successful. These roles can be categorized into three aspects:

A WIFE
As a woman, your first assignment in the home is to your husband. It is your ministry to meet his emotional and psychological needs. What God did at creation, clearly reflects the position of the woman as a wife. She is not to lord over him, neither is she to be trodden upon, but she is to provide support and help to her husband (Genesis 2:21-24).

God expects that just as the Church is subject to Jesus, the woman should in turn be subject to her husband. When a woman allows her husband to fulfil his covenant role of headship, she has automatically given him room to play his messianic role over her.

Every wife should make her husband feel comfortable by continually showing him love through submission.

Woman, it is your responsibility to love, care, respect and honour your husband; you should also ensure to use words to exalt him thereby bringing out the king in him. The Bible says: A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones (Proverbs 12:4).

Another area is that wives should be submissive to her husband even as Christ commands, is in the area of giving him the reverence that he deserves as the head of the home. Ephesians 5:22 says: Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

A MOTHER
The second dimension of the woman is being a mother. Motherhood is a call to be a homemaker; having the responsibility to take care of the House and everyone living in it. Someone said, a man can build a house but it takes a woman to make a home.

A mother is usually the foundation that a home is built upon. Her primary role as a mother is to provide a home firstly for her husband, in which to build a nest and start a family and then to provide the safe and secure environment in which her children can grow, flourish, develop their personalities, talent and then move out into the world where they proceed to blossom into manifesting their own potentials.

Mothers play a responsibility role in children’s education, health and complete well being. She also has the responsibility of cooking, taking care of the house and the children.

A MINISTER
The woman in every home should have a praying ministry as the home maker of the family. She should ensure she prays for the well being of every member of the family. It has been said that women in the home has the ability to discern spiritual family matters faster than the man. Every woman should ensure she prays for her husband, her children and for peace in the home.

This has worked for me severally. When I tell my husband about a decision I intend to make and he says No, I don’t argue with him. All I do is to go on my knees and commit his decisions to God. Days or weeks after, I usually get a favourable response from him.

Therefore, I charge every woman to develop a walk with God on the altar of prayer so you can experience Heaven on earth in your home. I pray that grace to be an award winning wife, mother and a minister is released on you in Jesus name. Note that these three dimensions are to be expressed and demonstrated in love, so as to enjoy a healthy family relationship.

You cannot function fully in your three-fold capacity as a wife, mother and minister, without the help of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is only available to those who are born again – who have received Christ as Lord and Saviour of their life.

You can be a child of God by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour. If you have not asked Jesus to come into your life or may have neglected your initial love for Him, then you should say this prayer in faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today, teach me to love even has You loved us. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ Name! Call or write to share your testimonies with me through [email protected], 07026385437 OR 08141320204.

TREM Devotional 21 November 2018 – You Are Not A Failure

Topic: You Are Not A Failure [TREM Devotional 21 November 2018]

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5 KJV

The Bible is not a religious book; it is a book of pictures. It shows you your picture. You are not a failure. The problem is that you have not seen your picture yet. Who told you that sickness will kill you? Who told you that you will be stranded? Who told you that you won’t have your baby? Go and look at your picture. The real issue is that you are not looking at your picture.

God showed up to Jeremiah and said: “Before I formed you, I knew you”. While you were still inside your mother’s womb, I ordained you as a prophet to the nations. So, God has perfected everything about you before you were born. How then can you fail? Jeremiah, just like many believers, said Oh Lord, I am a child. The Lord said shut your mouth. When you are in the presence of Jehovah, don’t ever say I cannot. He said Jeremiah, whether you like it or not, you are going to fulfil everything I said. Then God touched his mouth and sanctified it. He said what is killing you people is your mouth.

Don’t you understand that the Bible says that He has made you a god and god speaks? That is why you must watch what you say. You are not a failure. God concluded your matter before you were born. Wake up in the morning and chart the cause of your life with your mouth. That is what I do! When I wake up in the morning I declare: this is the day the Lord has made. I will be glad and rejoice in it. This is my day of breakthrough, open doors, increase, abundance, my day of opportunity and enlargement. I chart the course of my life and I leave my house with expectation because I know I am a god to my day.

Memorise: But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. – 1 Corinthians 1:24

Read: 1 Corinthians 1:21-24 (KJV)

Bible In One Year: Ezekiel 24-26, James 3

MESSAGE:

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are to be used to bring profit to the Kingdom of God by those who have them. They also make the lives of those who possess them profitable. One thing we can learn from the life of Joseph is that the gifts helped him to fulfil his destiny. He was able to interpret the dreams which moved him from prison to the throne.

As a child of God who wants to fulfil destiny, there is something you need to see in order to positively affect your destiny. Until you see it, you may remain on the same spot for long.

Isaiah 40:31 says those who wait on the Lord will not only exchange their weakness for His strength, but also soar like eagles. But with what does eagles fly? They soar with two wings, not one. Any eagle that folds one wing and tries to fly with the other one will lose control of its motion. In the same way, we need two wings to soar: we need signs and wonders, power and glory, gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer Point: Father, fully equip me to fulfill my destiny in Jesus’ name.

1. Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home:

2. Under the shadow of your throne
Your saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is your arm alone,
And our defense is sure

3. Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received its frame,
From everlasting you are God,
To endless years the same.

4. A thousand ages in your sight
Are like an evening gone
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Soon bears us all away;
We fly forgotten, as a dream
Does at the opening day.

6. Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Still be our guard while troubles last,
And our eternal home!

DCLM Daily Manna 21 November 2018 – Shun Rebellion

Topic: Shun Rebellion [DCLM Daily Manna 21 November 2018 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Isaiah 30:1-17 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin (Isaiah 30:1).

MESSAGE:

Not long ago, there was a case of mutiny in a country’s armed forces in Africa. Some aggrieved soldiers raised their voices on the quality of food and poor maintenance services rendered to them. What started as a mere complaint soon snowballed into a large scale mutiny resulting in the death sentence on scores of the servicemen. The situation moved the nation and the citizens to cry out in unison for leniency on the erring soldiers.

Rebellion often starts imperceptibly with one or few people, and becomes epidemic, if not checked. The nation of Israel and their leaders – both spiritual and secular – had had repeated records of rebelling against God, His word and will.

The passage today is a divine pronouncement of judgment against the rebellious children, who counsel themselves deceitfully against God and His revealed will for the holy nation. Judgment is against those who would add sin to sin that they may reap iniquity and damnation. The rebellion of the people of Israel attracted severe woes on the rebels.

It is unimaginable that Israel would ever desire to go down to Egypt for help. They established a military alliance with the army of Pharaoh without consultation with the God of Israel who had dealt severely with Egypt and assured them that they would see these Egyptians no more forever. Presumption, self-management and unbelief are the actual causes of rebelling against God and His word.

To shun rebellion, we must guide our hearts with all diligence and ensure that no root of bitterness against God or His servants springs up from within us.

Thought For The Day: Rebellion is the product of unbelief, pride and presumption: Shun it!

Seeds of Destiny 21 November 2018 Devotional – Blessed By Being A Blessing

Topic: Blessed By Being A Blessing [Seeds of Destiny 21 November 2018 Devotional]

Scripture: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Genesis 12:2

Thought For The Day: The extent you are willing to be a blessing is the extent to which you will be blessed by God.

It is true that no one can be blessed by God until he is or can be a blessing to others. This is why God told Abraham, ‘I will bless you and thou shall be a blessing…’ (Genesis 12:2). When you make up your mind to live as a blessing to others, especially to the less privileged, then you trigger the release of the Blessing of God upon your life (Psalm 41:1-3). This is another activation key to the blessing; it is the willingness to be a channel of blessing to other people.

God blesses us to the extent in which we agree to be a blessing to others. The extent you are willing to be a blessing is the extent to which you will be blessed by God. This entails being a blessing to the Kingdom of God and to humanity especially the less privileged. When your life is flowing like a river reaching out to the poor, the kingdom, family members, etc., it cannot dry.

In Psalm 132:1-5, we see how David decided to be a blessing to the Kingdom of God and that decision brought him to a realm of irrecoverable blessing (1 Chronicles 21:1-3).

Beloved, it is a new day for you. The Blessing of God is coming on you as you make yourself a blessing to others, in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this: The extent you are willing to be a blessing is the extent to which you will be blessed by God.
