God Is Still Good, Jo Dee Messina Says of Cancer Battle

Country music singer Jo Dee Messina says she’s drawing strength from her Christian faith during her battle with cancer.

“I’m leaning on God,” she told People. “I’m letting Him take charge. It’s what’s best for my soul right now. Every biopsy and every result … it feels like an eternity goes by. I know that God has me. I’m filled with gratitude and joy.”

Messina, who has had six No. 1 songs on the Billboard chart, was taking classes at The King’s University, an evangelical school, when she learned last year she has cancer. She withdrew for the semester.

Messina, 48, has not disclosed what type of cancer she has.

“After being diagnosed, I was playing at a winery in Missouri and I basically said ‘FYI, this is what’s going on,’” Messina told People. “It doesn’t change the fact that God is good.”

She has two children, ages 9 and 6.

“Sometimes I need help getting dishes down from the shelf,” she told People. “I let my kids see my weakness as much as I let them see my joy of life.”

She recorded a new single, Reckless Love, following the diagnosis.

“On certain days, it was hard to breathe, and I was barely able to stand up at the microphone,” she said.

The song, she said, “tells the news that people need to know, that God provides a love that we will never understand.”

Man admits setting fire to doors of church

Paul Johnson used petrol to ignite the doors of Edinburgh’s Guru Nanak Sikh Temple and Leith Methodist Church this summer because he wanted to make a “political statement”.

He told police he wanted to watch the premises burn down and hoped to be arrested.

Johnson, 49, admitted two charges of willful fireraising, aggravated by religious prejudice, on August 28 when he appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh on Thursday. He will be sentenced next month.

The court heard the attack on the Sikh temple, to the danger of life of a family inside, was unplanned and was only carried out when unemployed Johnson came across the building.

The court heard how, on the evening of August 27, Johnson bought a container and, later, fuel worth £3.51 from a local petrol station.

Shortly before 5am on August 28, a man heading to the temple to pray spotted that fire had taken hold on one side of one of the doors and immediately raised the alarm with a man sleeping inside in the family quarters.

The fire service was then alerted and used two engines, two high reach vehicles and 11 firefighters to bring the blaze under control.

Around a couple of hours later, the caretaker at Leith Methodist Church noticed a smell of petrol and burning and cleaned up the area around the front door after realising there was no fire damage of note.

He later contact police after hearing about the incident at…

President Trump Threatens to Close Southern Border as 4,000 Person Caravan Continues North

President Trump Threatens to Close Southern Border as 4,000 Person Caravan Continues North

A caravan of some 4,000 immigrants is headed toward the United States from Honduras and President Trump is threatening to close the southern border if the Mexican government fails to stop them.

According to the Associated Press, the Mexican government deployed additional police to its shared border with Guatemala on Thursday after the Casa del Migrante shelter in Guatemala reported that hundreds of Hondurans had already arrived there.

AP reports that Mexican officials will not let the Hondurans enter as a group and that they will need to have official documentation to enter into Mexico from Guatemala.

If the Hondurans, who are reportedly fleeing violence and poverty in their country, do not have a passport or visa, Mexico’s ambassador to Guatemala has said that they will be deported.

Mexican officials have also said that the migrants could also have the option to apply for refugee status, but this would require a 90-day approval process.

As the caravan nears the United States, President Trump has fired off several warnings on Twitter.

The President wrote, “I am watching the Democrat Party led (because they want Open Borders and existing weak laws) assault on our country by Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, whose leaders are doing little to stop this large flow of people, INCLUDING MANY CRIMINALS, from entering Mexico to the…

Canadian Pro-Life Group Says Facebook & Twitter Are Censoring Them & Labeling Their Posts as ‘Hate Speech’ – Urban Christian News

A pro-life group in Canada that earlier this year had a YouTube video go viral has accused Facebook and Twitter of censoring recent posts on their social media accounts.

Choice42, an Ajax, Ontario-based organization, told the pro-life news website Life News in an interview published Wednesday that they recently had a video censored by Facebook.

“Many of our pro-life posts have been taken down lately and yesterday Facebook actually sent me a message saying it was because my post was ‘hate speech,’” explained Choice42 Director Laura Klassen.

“Our CHOICE42 video, ‘Louise’s Story’ was blocked by Facebook when we originally uploaded it because it ‘violated Facebook community standards.’ It’s the personal story of a young woman who was raped and became pregnant and decided to choose life. There is nothing graphic or disturbing in the video.”

Klassen also told Life News that Choice42 has experienced similar problems with Twitter, drawing parallels to complaints made by the U.S.-based pro-life group Live Action.

“Twitter has done to us what they’ve done to Live Action, making our entire account ineligible for promotion unless we delete all of our ‘anti-abortion tweets,’” continued Klassen.

“Live Action has been quite successful about making it known that they are being censored. I find it interesting that Facebook/Twitter cares enough about our little Canadian org to do the same to us.”

Identifying itself as a grassroots organization that is “pro-woman, pro-baby, and pro-life,” Choice42 gained much attention in June when its YouTube video “The…

Open Heaven 19 October 2018 – Jesus: The Way

Open Heaven 19 October 2018 Friday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – Jesus: The Way

Topic — Jesus: The Way (Open Heaven 19 October 2018)

Memorise: “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”- John 14:6

Read: Matthew 7:13-14 (KJV)

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Bible in One Year: Jeremiah 7-8, Luke 8:22-39

Open Heaven 19 October 2018 Friday MESSAGE:

In John 14:6, the Lord Jesus Christ made a declarative statement to Thomas, which even today some archbishops cannot fathom. He said:

“…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

What did Jesus mean when He called Himself the Way? After Adam and Eve fell in the Garden of Eden, there was a break in connection that existed between God and man. From that moment, mankind has continually made efforts to find God because of the emptiness that exists in us without God. Revealing this emptiness and the resulting search for God, in Acts 17:26-27, the Holy Spirit said:

26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:”

The drive to fill this void is seen in the abundance of different religions in the world today, with each one recommending its own way to God. Having seen the end from the beginning, Jesus knew that this time would come, and so He said very clearly to all who will listen, “I am the Way.” He is the only Way to God, and there is no other way to get to God except through Him.

Because of the diverse doctrines around, you need to be careful and ensure that you have found the true God. You need to be sure that you are not just deluded into thinking you have obtained salvation and that you are on your way to heaven. Any other way to God that is not through the Lord Jesus is counterfeit. Are you in any religion that doesn’t recognize Jesus Christ as the way to God? Are you in any church that glorifies her General Overseers or Leader rather than the Lord Jesus Christ? Does your church propagate its own doctrines rather than the word of God as written in the Bible? It is time to come out of such an assembly and seek the one true God through Jesus Christ.

Another thing Jesus meant when He said He is the Way is that He is the perfect example to follow if you want to please God. Don’t make any man your standard because man will disappoint you. Our standard is Jesus Christ and Him alone. It is possible to attain Christ’s level of perfection here on earth, and this is why He gave us the Holy Spirit when He was leaving the earth. Are you going to heaven through The Way, and are you walking in His footsteps?

Open Heaven 19 October 2018 Friday Key Point:

There is only one way to God; if you are not going through that Way, then you cannot reign with Christ in paradise.

Christian Police Association respond to latest crime stats

Official figures show forces in England and Wales registered a total of 5.6 million offences in the year to June.

This was a rise of nine per cent compared with the previous twelve months.

The stats include a 14 percent rise in murders and a twelve percent jump in offences involving a knife.

Labour described the ONS statistics as “truly shocking” and accused the Tories of “failing in their duty to protect the public and keep our citizens safe” but policing minister Nick Hurd said: “This government is determined to tackle all types of crime – and although the chance of being a victim remains low, we are taking decisive action in a number of areas.

“To combat serious violence our strategy addresses the root causes of crime, with a focus on early intervention and we have announced a new £200m Youth Endowment Fund to support young people at risk of involvement in crime.

“On top of this, we are consulting on a public health approach to serious violence and giving police extra powers to tackle knife crime through our Offensive Weapons Bill.

“We also recognise the demand on police, which is why the Home Secretary has said he will prioritise police funding in the Spending Review.”

While acknowledging the difficulties currently facing police officers, Lee Russell, executive director of the Christian Police Association told Premier believers across the country have a role to…

Christian Woman Should Not Marry Father of Her Child If He’s a Nonbeliever, Theologian Says

(Photo: Unsplash/Heather Mount)An expecting mother caresses the child in her womb

If an unmarried couple have a child together, should they be encouraged to marry even if one is a nonbeliever?

No, largely because they would be “unequally yoked,” according to John Piper, chancellor of Bethlehem College & Seminary and founder of DesiringGod.org.

On a recent episode of the podcast “Ask Pastor John,” a listener named Patrick asked Piper about what he should do regarding a couple at his church.

“A young couple at my church is unmarried, and they have a child together. They are now living in a state of chastity, apart. The man is not a believer. She is,” explained Patrick.

“They plan to marry, though I have advised her not to marry him unless he becomes a believer (based on 2 Corinthians 6:14–18). Categorically speaking, am I correct here? Or does the bringing of a child together into the world override Paul’s ‘unequally yoked’ principle?”

Piper responded that he agreed with the reasoning, stating that “sex before marriage or even giving birth to a child before marriage does not change Paul’s instructions for Christian marriage.”

Piper referenced 2 Corinthians 6:14, in which the Apostle Paul says believers cannot be “unequally yoked” with nonbelievers, and 1 Corinthians 7:39, which reads: “A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.”

“Of course, behind these two commands for believers to marry only believers is the wisdom that marriage ought to be built on the foundation of faith in Christ with all…

Turkey Arrests Another Pastor Just Days after Pastor Brunson is Released

Turkey Arrests Another Pastor Just Days after Pastor Brunson is Released

After releasing pastor Andrew Brunson just days ago, Turkish authorities detained another U.S. missionary.

According to Middle East Concern, missionary David Byle, who has been preaching in Turkey for 18 years, was arrested in Ankara on Saturday by the Anti-Terror Police Department.

Byle was reportedly released Sunday afternoon, soon after he was interrogated. The missionary was then ordered to leave the country within the next 15 days.

“[We] have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support, not only from believers here in Turkey, but from literally all around the world. It means a lot to us and encourages us greatly to know we’re not alone, that we’re a part of such a great family, God’s family,” Byle and his family shared in a message.

The Christian Post reports that Byle has been arrested several times while he has been a missionary in Turkey.

In 2007, Byle was arrested and held for three days by Turkish authorities for carrying Christian literature, but since the literature did not insult Islam, he was let go.

Byle was arrested for a second time in 2016, this time he was detained for eight days and told that he would be deported.

Byle’s deportation order was soon temporarily blocked in February 2017, because officials could not prove that he was a “director, member or supporter of ‘terrorist organizations’” as they…

Call for churches to be open to teenagers suffering mental health issues.

Lily Jo who runs the Lily Jo project based in Manchester and goes into schools to talk about mental health says it’s a case of being willing to listen to the young person.

She told Premier’s News hour:

“I think it’s definitely about having that open dialogue, that open conversation making sure that those young people know actually, if you’re struggling, I’m the person to speak to, like, come and talk to me and we’ll work through it together.

The charity, Action for Children surveyed 5,000 teenagers and found a third were feeling depressed and unable to shake off negative feelings, even with the help of friends and family.

Common issues were feeling depressed, restless sleep and struggling to focus their minds.

The charity offered those in need of support a place on its Blues Programme – the first nationwide programme of its kind to deliver early help for depression in secondary schools.

Since the programme started last October, 620 15 to 18-year-olds have taken part, with 420 completing a questionnaire at the end.

According to the charity 70% had showed an improvement by July this year, with a specific decrease in depression.

The Blues Programme is part of Action for Children’s Build Sound Minds campaign which encourages positive conversation and good mental health.

It is based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy methods and helps young people understand the connection…

Another Church Building Sealed Shut in Algeria

Another Church Building Sealed Shut in Algeria

TIZI-OUZOUAlgeria, October 18, 2018 (Morning Star News) – Authorities in Algeria sealed shut a church site on Tuesday (Oct. 16) even after Christian leaders complied with orders to meet building codes, sources said.

In Azaghar village near Akbou, about 185 kilometers (114 miles) east of Algiers in Bejaia Province, Kabylie Region, eight policemen sealed shut the doors of the Church of Jesus Christ, pastor Ali Benkhelat told Morning Star News.

Government officials had ordered the closure in February after local administrators visited the 300-member church’s worship site in December 2017 and January, he said.

“After their visit to our place of worship, they asked us to provide another emergency exit door and fire extinguishers, which we have done,” Pastor Benkhelat said. “We even had to close the premises for three weeks for different development work. If they let us work until today, it’s because they had nothing to reproach us for.”

The five-year-old church is a legal entity by virtue of its affiliation with the Protestant Church of Algeria (EPA), but the government order stated that its building was originally meant to be used for a poultry business. Christian leaders said it was clean and never had chickens in it.

Police first went to the building owner, Da Amar, at 4 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 15) and asked him to go to the police station at 5 p.m., which he did, Pastor…
