Archbishop of Washington resigns over Catholic Church abuse

The Vatican announced it on Friday. The Cardinal, 77, has been under scrutiny because of his handling of historic sexual abuse allegations during his time as the bishop of Pittsburgh between 1988 and 2006.

A grand jury report into the Catholic church said there were more than 300 ‘predator priests’ who could have abused 1000 children across six dioceses, including the diocese of Pittsburgh and Fr Ernest Paone.

It says: “despite Wuerl’s summary of the serious and criminal nature of the problem to the Vatican, Diocesan records revealed that Wuerl granted Paone’s request to be reassigned again on October 22, 1991.”

It continues: “Wuerl noted that Paone has most recently served on a high school faculty in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Wuerl’ s continued approval permitted Paone to enjoy all the faculties of the Diocese. On November 20, 1991, Zubik wrote to Paone to confirm that Wuerl had approved his new assignment.”

Before it was published, he said the report “will be a reminder of the grave failings that the church must acknowledge and for which it must seek forgiveness.”

He was accused of covering up his predecessor and faced increasing pressure to step down.

The Archdiocese of Washington previously defended Wuerl, sending detailed explanations of his actions to clergy and pushing back against accusations that he failed to appropriately deal with paedophile…

Hurricane Michael: Finding hope in disaster

Last weekend, Michael was a tropical storm in the Atlantic Ocean. It was barely a hurricane Tuesday morning, with winds of ninety miles per hour. As the Associated Press reports, “a little over a day later, it had transformed into a monster.” Its wind speed increased 72 percent in less than thirty-three hours.

“Storms are known to do this, but normally we see this happening when it’s away from land,” according to a University of Florida climatologist. “What’s unusual is that it’s happening so close to land.”

The Atlantic now ranks it as “among the most ferocious land-falling hurricanes in American history.” The Washington Post agreed, describing Michael as “one of the most intense hurricanes to ever hit the United States.” It moved toward Georgia and Alabama by evening, becoming the first Category 3 storm to hit Georgia since 1898.

We have developed the most advanced meteorological technology known to humanity. Hurricane experts use satellites, buoys, and aircraft flown into the developing storm. They combine data from various predictive models.

But our best scientific instruments are no match for nature. This week’s devastation is another reminder that our world is more unpredictable and ungovernable than we wish to admit.

It is human nature to believe in the permanence of the present and to assume an even better future. But there’s only one way to face tomorrow with guaranteed hope.

Why did the religious authorities reject Jesus?

Have you ever wondered how the religious authorities could reject the teachings of the Son of God? Or how such astute theological minds could miss the truth of his revelation, while Galilean fishermen and common crowds heard him with grateful appreciation?

The answer is that we cannot fully understand God’s word until we choose to obey it.

Psalm 112:1 assures us: “Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!” “Greatly delights” translates Hebrew…

Who is the Dean of Windsor, David Conner, who’s preaching at the royal wedding?

The Dean of Windsor also conducted Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May, although it was the Archbishop of Canterbury who married them and Bishop Michael Curry who delivered the address.

The reading just before his address is Colossians 3:12-16, which urges Christians do clothe themselves with compassion, bear with one another and be quick to forgive. Following his short talk, the congregation will sign the hymn ‘Immortal, Invisible’.

Rt Rev Conner was the former Bishop to the Armed Forces but has been the Dean of Windsor since 1998, his role there also makes him one of the domestic chaplains to the Queen.

Previously, he studied at Oxford and he was the vicar at Great St Mary’s Church in Cambridge and then became a suffragan Bishop in the Diocese of Norwich, consecrated by Lord George Carey, the then Archbishop of Canterbury.

In 2010 he was on the New Years Honours list and awarded Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO).

Like Westminster Abbey, Windsor chapel is known as a Royal Peculiar, with the Dean of Windsor responsible only to the sovereign.

The church – a place of worship for the Queen and her family – is often at the heart of royal events, with the Windsors gathering there each year for Easter services, and in the past for occasions such as the service to mark the Duke of Edinburgh’s 90th birthday.

MFM Daily Devotional 12 October 2018 – Your Attitude and Your Victory

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 12 October 2018 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Your Attitude and Your Victory

TOPIC: Your Attitude and Your Victory (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 12 October 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Judges 19:22-25

MEMORY VERSE: “I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.” – Psalms 101:2

The MESSAGE:

In the book of Judges chapters 19 and 20, the Israelites fought the children of Benjamin because of the activities of the sons of Belial, which included corruption, sodomy, violence and immortality. The Benjamites defeated them twice, and before they went for the third battle, they went up to the house of the Lord, as usual, but this time they added fasting which they did until evening and offered burnt offering and peace offering before the Lord. They also inquired of the Lord, and the Lord asked them to go up, that He Will deliver the children of Benjamin into their hands. God did it, but remember that before this happened, they had to change their attitude. Victory means success and achievement. However, for victory to be achieved there must be war or conflict. As Christians, we are just like the Israelites; in fact, we are the spiritual Israelites. We fight on daily basis, and we all expect victory because we need to possess our Promised Lands. God in his words promised us victory, but it does not come in every war. There were times Israelites lost, and times they won. Looking critically into the Bible therefore, we discovered that one of the major reasons that gave them victory was their attitude towards God, especially at the time of war. Attitude means dispositions to act in certain ways. Whenever they went the wrong way or disobey God, negative things happen to them. Whenever they did not do what they knew they were supposed to do, even when their opponents were enemies of God, they lost the battles. This means that, even today, God is interested in our attitude before He goes forth to fight our battles for us.

Many have been expecting victories in some areas of their lives, but it seems nothing is happening. Many will win today and lose tomorrow. Many born again Christians have never won any spiritual war even in their dreams. Many even believe today that in this dispensation God does not fight for Christians anymore and that it all ended with the Jews before the coming of Christ. Of course, this is not true. The right attitude towards divine victory include: obedience, faith in God, spiritual activities (fasting and praying), burnt and peace offerings (i.e. sacrificial offerings) like first fruits, covenant seed, seed offerings, addiction to the word and total obedience, quality service unto the Lord, praising God always, and showing love to others. Beloved, begin to examine your attitude towards God and His instructions today. You must be a victorious Christian for you to possess your Promised Land and your victory is not negotiable. With the right attitude, I can assure you of victory over sin and iniquity, over enemies of your destiny, over affliction and sickness, over poverty, barreness, spirit of death and hell, over foundational powers, satanic dreams. Above all, you must be a friend of God.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
YOUR ATTITUDE TODAY DETERMINES YOUR SUCCESS TOMORROW.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Ladder of negative attitude preventing your testimonies from manifesting shall break down.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Father, I thank You for giving us the power to sow and to reap, in the name of Jesus.
2. Amy power in the heaviness saying ‘NO’ to my victory, die by fire, in the name of Jesus.
3. Iniquity of my father’s house assigned to damage my seeds before harvest, die, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Every wrong attitude in me delaying my victory, die, in the name of Jesus.
5. Inherited evil character that is making people to mock my God and causing lack of testimony in my life, die, in Jesus’ name.
6. I jump out of every wrong attitude of my father’s house, in the name of Jesus.
7. I plug myself into the socket of holiness and righteousness, and I claim my victory, in the name of Jesus.

Joyce Meyer Devotional 12 October 2018 — Retire from Self-Care

Topic: Retire from Self-Care [Joyce Meyer Devotional 12 October 2018]

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation. — Psalm 42:5

God wants to take care of you, and He can do a much better job of it if you will avoid a problem called independence, which is really self-care.

The desire to take care of yourself is based on fear. You are afraid of what might happen if you entrust yourself totally to God and He doesn’t come through for you. The root problem of independence is you trust yourself more than you trust God.

People love to have a back-up plan. You may ask God to get involved in your life, but if He doesn’t respond as quickly as you’d like, you take control back into your own hands.

But God has a plan for you—and His plan is much better than yours. So, give yourself to Him and see what happens. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Prayer Starter: Father, I can’t do it on my own. Help me to place my trust in You and turn over complete control. I want Your plan for my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Kenneth & Gloria Copeland Devotional 12 October 2018 – Tune In to the Spirit of Grace

Topic: Tune In to the Spirit of Grace [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland Devotional 12 October 2018]

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. Titus 2:11-12

Grace teaches us! The “Spirit of grace” instructs us from the inside. Let the Holy Spirit of God counsel you and teach you how to live in this present world.

If you listen to the voice of the world, you will be worldly minded, or carnally minded, which is death. But, if you tune in to the voice of the Spirit of grace, you can become spiritually minded. And, according to the Word, that is life and peace. So, when the Spirit of God speaks to you through that still, small voice inside your heart, listen and obey Him. His way works! Trust Him and remember that He’s got your well-being in mind.

Maybe He’s asking you to eliminate some activity that’s consuming too much of your time and attention. Or maybe He’s prompting you to get up a little earlier and spend more time in the Word and in prayer. Whatever it is He is telling you to do, if you’ll do it, you’ll be stronger in the grace of God, and consequently, in the blessing of God.

Don’t hesitate another moment. Do it! If you want a change, make a change.

Wait On The Lord by David Ibiyeomie

Wait On The Lord by David Ibiyeomie

Topic: Wait On The Lord

Isaiah 40:31 -But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

The secret to power is waiting upon the Lord. If you really want to have power in your life, that is how it starts. It is difficult for most people because the flesh hates to be disciplined.

Psalm 62:1 -Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.

It is as the school of waiting on the Lord that the flesh loses its force.

Psalm 130:5 -I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

Psalm 25:5 -Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

Also Read: Created For The Top By David Ibiyeomie

Do you want to renew your strength? Do you want the power of God? Then, wait on Him. The flesh will fight and scream for attention but wait on the Lord until the flesh vanishes. Without waiting, there is no power in your mouth and when you lack power, angels will have no assignment to carry out on your behalf; and satan and his agents will then have opportunity to carry out their ministries but that will not be your portion in the name of Jesus!

So, when you wait on the Lord, God empowers you because the fullness of the spirit and your waiting are linked together; they are inseparable. When you wait on the Lord, self is emptied and you will be able to receive God’s fullness. It gives the Holy Spirit full access to touch your depth.

Psalm 42:7-8 -Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. 8 Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

This means that when you wait on the Lord, God brings His presence which is like a water sprout that will lift you into another realm of power and strength. God empowers your spirit man for dominion and your soul is empowered for social revolution. Even your body will not be left out because it will be empowered for exploits.

Dan. 11:32b – …but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

You are empowered from the altar of prayers and fasting because empowerment answers to demand. Fasting is primarily ordained for spiritual empowerment.

Isaiah 58:6 -Is not this the fast that I have chosen? To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

You can never come across a man/woman working in power that does not subscribe to fasting. Don’t be careless with your spiritual life; discipline yourself. You can pray to be empowered but it takes fasting to walk in power. It is not enough to be empowered; you need to walk in power because you don’t know when the next challenge of life will come.

Apostle Paul was a man giving to prayer and fasting; and he was endued with unusual dimension of power that made the people in Acts 14:11 describe him as a goD.

Acts 14:11 -And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

You cannot walk in power without engaging in fasting. Revelation becomes stale until it is empowered. Therefore, wake up from your slumber and fight your way up and you will get there in Jesus name –Amen!

God bless you

TREM 12 October 2018 Daily Devotional – Your Redeemer Will Do It

Topic: Your Redeemer Will Do It [TREM 12 October 2018 Daily Devotional]

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly”. – Psalms 84:11

Looking at today’s scriptural text, my mind goes to a poor and weak young lady in the Bible by the name Ruth. Ruth was powerless. When she got to the land of Bethlehem-Judah, she did not know any person. She just went with Naomi. In Ruth chapter 1, she had said to Naomi; where you go I will go, where you lodge I will lodge, your people shall be my people, your God my God and where you die that’s where I want to be buried. And the bible tells us that when she got to Bethlehem-Judah, the first farmland she went into to look for food was the farmland of a rich man called Boaz. She got in there and found favour in the eyes of Boaz. Boaz was her kinsman redeemer.

When she came back from the farmland of Boaz, her mother in law told her what to do in other to obtain rest on every side. She said, dress up, look good, apply good oil and use good perfume, go and stay at the feet of Boaz. Many immoral minds misinterpret that scripture. They don’t understand that according to Jewish tradition in those days; staying at the feet of Boaz simply meant she was saying to Boaz, redeem me. I cannot help myself but I know you can redeem me.

According to Ruth 3:11, Boaz said to her: “And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.” The Redeemer says: “I will do it for you. I will do for you what you have requested”. There is so much I can tell you about your Redeemer. Your Redeemer will always treat you with grace. The unmerited, undeserved and unearned favour of God. His grace has kept you. His Grace will exceed your expectations.

Andrew Wommack Devotional 12 October 2018 – Communion Is Sacred

Topic: Communion Is Sacred [Andrew Wommack Devotional 12 October 2018]

Luke 22:19 “And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

The bread of communion symbolizes the body of Jesus which was broken for us through His sufferings. He not only died for us on the cross but also bore 39 stripes on His back by which we are healed. Partaking of communion should remind us of the emotional and physical salvation that Jesus provided for us.

The Lord’s Supper comes from a part of the Passover meal that was celebrated only once a year. However, the early Christian church took Communion weekly and sometimes daily. There is no specific frequency of the Lord’s Supper prescribed in scripture.

As we take Communion, we are solemnly proclaiming the Lord’s death, and our union with Him and with others through that death. This is a profession of our faith and therefore, there are serious consequences for those who profess something they don’t possess.

It is most likely that what makes a person worthy or unworthy is whether or not he is born again. This is also totally consistent with the doctrine of grace that Paul constantly preached. There were unbelievers among the true Christians just as Jesus prophesied, and this still exists today. It is a dangerous offense for an unbeliever to take the Lord’s Supper. When taking Communion, each person should examine himself to see whether or not he is in the faith (2 Cor. 13:5).

Billy Graham Devotional 12 October 2018 — Christianity Is Serious

Topic: Christianity Is Serious [Billy Graham Devotional 12 October 2018]

Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only . . . — James 1:22

Jesus indicated that there will be a permissive society just before He comes back. “As in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the coming of the Son of man.” The world today is on an immoral binge that has not been known since the days of Rome. We are in a hedonistic society, and what we are seeing is human nature expressing itself without God.

Many have fallen into an antinomianism in which they believe intellectually and then go out and live like the devil, imagining that God will forgive them and take them to heaven. I believe there is an obedience to the Gospel, there is a self-denial and a bearing of the cross, if you are to be a follower of Christ. Being a Christian is serious business.

Prayer for the day: Teach me to deny my selfish desires and obey Your commandments, Lord Jesus. Cleanse me so that I might be used to penetrate society deeply for You.
