DCLM Daily Manna 25 September 2018 – Prayer, The Master Key

Topic: Prayer, The Master Key [DCLM Daily Manna 25 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: John 16:23-33 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full (John 16:24)

MESSAGE:

The Bible says a lot about prayers and people who prayed. Abraham prayed and so did Jacob. Many people prayed in the Bible and they received answers to their prayers. The Bible even detailed notable prayers like that of Solomon at the dedication of the temple or the quick one that David prayed to God to turn the counsel of Ahitophel to foolishness. Women, like Hannah, prayed too and received miracle children. Even unbelievers like the sailors in Jonah’s day knew how to pray. Prayer is the believer’s heart-cry to the Almighty.

Jesus also prayed. The passage above shows us the master key Jesus gave His disciples. Four times, He told them to ask again and again from the Father so that their joy would be full. He then took them to the school of prayer. He lectured them on the why, what and how of prayer. Prayer must be in His name to be answered. He also taught them to be steadfast in prayer. The world is evil and troublous times are inescapable for the saints. But when such times come, we should pray because He has overcome for us already.

The Church needs the master key of prayer today more than any other time. The key will open any door for the Church, families and the individual. Societal pressures are snuffing prayer times out of the daily schedules of many people. But how can you open doors of success if you abandon the passkey? There is an urgent call to prayer today for all and sundry. You must join them and use the key to make yourself relevant in time and eternity by opening every door blocking your progress. Remember God heareth not the sinners. He desires that sinners first pray for their salvation before He begins to add other blessings to them.

Thought For The Day: Prayer is the master key that opens all locked doors.

Seeds of Destiny 25 September 2018: A Clear Conscience – Your Ticket to Eternity with God

Topic: A Clear Conscience – Your Ticket to Eternity with God [Seeds of Destiny 25 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

Scripture: And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men. Acts 24:16

Thought For The Day: A clear conscience is crucial for eternity readiness.

Sometime ago, a young man testified in our church of a night vision he had about rapture. He said that he saw how rapture took place and people were being lifted off the ground but he was not. Then he began to cry, ‘Jesus would you leave me after all these years of going to church, will I miss the rapture?’

As if God wanted to show him why he was not raptured, He allowed him to be taken up but while he was in the air, he said a negative thought that was on his mind before he slept surfaced in his heart and he became too heavy to fly, and immediately, he fell to the ground. He said he fell with so much force that the ground got cracked by the impact of his weight. He also saw people helplessly running in different directions.

The young man said he realised from the vision that sin weighs heavier than any weight imaginable.

Beloved, a clear conscience is crucial for eternity readiness. A young woman who is still a virgin but has a heart infested with hate and bitterness is playing with hellfire. What would be the gain for a man who abandons night clubs, tobacco smoking and other sinful acts in order to be dedicated to God in church if he still nurses bitterness in his heart? He will end in the same hellfire with killers, sorcerers, adulterers and other terrible sinners.

Whatever makes you to have a heart that is filled with offence towards man and God is jeopardising your destiny on earth and in eternity in Heaven.

Remember this: A clear conscience is crucial for eternity readiness.

Assignments:
1. Forgive everyone who hurt you in time past and even those who will hurt you tomorrow.
2. Ask God for the grace to maintain a clear conscience.
3. Live a life that is devoid of sin.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask that You purge me from every impure lifestyle that will rob me of eternity with You. Give me the grace to maintain an upright lifestyle constantly, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Topic: Seek God’s Wisdom [Andrew Wommack 25 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

Matthew 23:1 “Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,”

Text: Matthew 23:1-9

This rebuke by Jesus to the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy was the harshest treatment that He ever gave to any group. He did this publicly before the multitude, the people the hypocrites most wanted to impress.

Jesus had faced many prior battles with the scribes and Pharisees. On this particular day, the encounter started with the chief priests and elders challenging Jesus’ authority. Jesus stunned them by replying with a question that challenged their authority. He then used three parables to illustrate that the leaders of the Jews had rejected the rule of God in their lives, despite their pious religious acts. They “perceived that he spake of them.”

The Pharisees countered by tempting Jesus with a question about paying taxes to the Roman government. Then the Sadducees tried to stop Jesus with a question about the resurrection, and finally, a lawyer tried to snare Him with a question about the greatest commandment. Jesus did so well in each test that “no man after that durst ask him any question.” Jesus then asked the leaders who were supposed to know it all, a question that none of them could answer. These Jews, who prided themselves on having superior knowledge, were totally humiliated by a man who had never been through their religious “seminary.” This resulted in them being afraid to ever try to trap Jesus again, by questioning Him.

These were the events of the day that led up to Jesus’ stinging public rebuke of these hypocrites. Jesus gave this rebuke knowing full well that they were planning to kill Him. Jesus was totally fearless in the face of their threats. All of these questions were intended to snare Jesus, but in His infinite superior wisdom, He evaded their traps. Ask God for His wisdom, He will also help you evade traps.

Billy Graham 25 September 2018 — Symptoms of Guilt

Topic: Symptoms of Guilt [Billy Graham Daily Devotional 25 September 2018]

Cleanse me from this guilt. Let me be pure again. — Psalm 51:2 (TLB)

Guilt is a prominent word among psychoanalysts, psychiatrists, and ministers too. The dictionary calls guilt “the act or state of having done a wrong or committed an offense.” The symptoms of guilt are many, but the root cause is one.

We have broken the moral law of the universe as expressed in the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount. So we have a sense of guilt.

This guilt causes a variety of psychological problems such as insecurity, tension, hunger for approval, struggles for recognition. A sense of guilt, some psychiatrists point out, is as necessary as a sense of pain. We need both in order to keep us from getting hurt.

Prayer for the day: Your Holy Spirit touches my heart and makes me conscious of my guilt. Forgive me, Lord.

Rebel Force Attacks Churches in Burma

Rebel Force Attacks Churches in Burma

YANGON, Burma, September 24, 2018 (Morning Star News) – Ethnic Wa rebels this month shut down churches or destroyed their buildings and temporarily detained several clergymen in eastern Burma (Myanmar), sources said.

On the border with China, soldiers of Myanmar’s largest ethnic rebel group, the United Wa State Army (UWSA), attacked the churches in the rebel’s autonomous region in Shan state, according to Christian leaders.

“We confirmed that at least 12 churches have been destroyed or closed as of Sept. 20,” a Christian leader who has lived in the Wa region for several decades told Morning Star News. The Wa people worship ancestral spirits, and the move by the UWSA was meant to hamper Christian missionary activity, said the leader on condition of anonymity.

Most of the targets were Baptist churches in Panghsang, where Wa soldiers destroyed crosses, the source said. The headquarters of the UWSA is located in Panhsang, on Burma’s border with China.

A video showing UWSA soldiers damaging a church building in Mong Maw town on Sept. 19 was widely circulated by Myanmar Facebook users. Local sources said schools built by Christian organizations in Panghsand town also have been shut down.

“Not only churches in Panghsang city were shut down, but churches in Mong Maw town were also destroyed,” said Ah Kar, a local resident in Mong Maw town. “Some religious…

Dallas Church Intent on Seeking Justice in Botham Jean’s Death

Dallas Church Intent on Seeking Justice in Botham Jean’s Death

DALLAS — The preacher stood wearily on stage, wiping tears from his eyes.

The mayor, working to bring healing to a city of 1.3 million, sought solace on a front pew.

Allison Jean, mourning the fatal shooting of her son Botham Shem Jean by a police officer, wailed as the 250-member, predominantly black congregation sang hymns such as “Trouble in My Way.”

“I know that Jesus — Jesus— he will fix it after a while,” the church sang.

Television and newspaper cameras captured the emotion — and the heartbreak — as the Dallas West Church of Christ gathered to worship just days after the inexplicable killing of 26-year-old Botham Jean in his own apartment.

The recent Sunday was no ordinary Lord’s Day for the congregation, which was grieving the sudden loss of a beloved song leader and Bible class teacher — and doing so under an immense media spotlight stretching from Texas all the way to the Caribbean island nation of St. Lucia.

“Somebody like Bo — why?” church member Sherron Rodgers said, uttering the question on everybody’s mind. “Why did it happen to somebody like him? I’m just sad.

“He was a special, kind person who would never mess with anybody,” she added. “He’d take off his jacket and give it to you. That’s the kind of person he was.”

According to those who knew him, Botham Jean was a devoted man of faith with a…

School District May Boot Church That Opposes Gay Marriage

School District May Boot Church That Opposes Gay Marriage

Controversy involving a church that opposes same-sex marriage and uses a school district’s performing arts center apparently has led the Austin, Texas, school district to reconsider its policies on facility rentals.

Celebration Church, a Georgetown, Texas, congregation, rents the district’s performing arts center to use for the worship services by one of its campuses. But the congregation’s affirmation of marriage as defined by Scripture sparked protests outside Sunday morning service in late August by two gay rights groups, Stonewall Militant Front-ATX and AZAAD Austin. Members of the groups chanted and waved gay pride flags and signs, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

Austin Independent School District now is considering changing the rental policy, an action that would result in the congregation being booted. Officials claim it is not in reaction to the protests.

“With the [performing arts center], we want to ensure we are keeping it open for students and schools and not eliminating their opportunity to utilize it,” district chief of staff Jacob Reach told the newspaper. “There’s also a lot of wear and tear involved, and [we’re] making sure we keep that building in good shape. We have custodial staff that actually go in there and clean. When we have events every night, it’s just not possible for them to do that. It’s the same with our other…

Lauren Daigle’s New Album Beats Out Drake and Ariana Grande

Lauren Daigle’s New Album Beats Out Drake and Ariana Grande

Christian radio listeners have been fans of Lauren Daigle for a while now. But the two-time Billboard Music Award winner is attracting even more attention with her newest album, Look Up Child.

This week the album, which sold 115,000 units, climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, surpassing popular artists like Ariana Grande, Drake, and Nicki Minaj.

“Granted, the aforementioned musicians’ records are a few weeks old while Daigle’s is brand new. The might of Look Up Child‘s release rivals that of other top artists in the past,” Rolling Stone reported.

“I’m incredibly grateful for how well people have connected with Look Up Child,” she told RollingStone.

Look Up Child is Daigle’s second studio album, and it’s broken a few records so far, according to the magazine:

  • Biggest Christian music album of 2018.

  • Biggest traditional sales frame of any Christian album in nine years.

  • Best debut sales for a Christian female artist in 20 years.

RollingStone went on to say: “The album’s success highlights something broader, however: the deep persistence of Christian music in the U.S. audience — an aspect of music consumption that has been largely skipped over by headlines proclaiming rap as the sole driver of modern music in America. While rap and R&B have indeed risen to become the leading genre of music consumption, Christian music remains a…

Atticus Shaffer of ‘The Middle’ Talks Navigating Hollywood as a Christian

Atticus Shaffer of ‘The Middle’ Talks Navigating Hollywood as a Christian

ABC’s “The Middle” star Atticus Shaffer recently sat down with Billy Hallowell from PureFlix.com as a part of their “Pure Talk” interview series, to talk about how he has kept his faith in Jesus while working in Hollywood.

The 20-year-old actor starred on the popular sitcom, “The Middle” for nine years until it went off the air earlier this year.

During his appearance on “Pure Talk,” Shaffer was asked a series of questions from fans, the first among them, “What is your favorite book of the bible?”

Shaffer shared that though he hasn’t read the entire bible yet, he has found a fondness for the book of John, his mother’s favorite book.

Shaffer said it became one of his favorites because, “it talks a lot about healing and about what we have been given – the fruits of the spirit, the gifts of the spirit – when we accept Jesus as Lord.”

Shaffer also noted that he liked the Old Testament book Isaiah calling it, “incredibly powerful.”

The actor shared with Hallowell that he and his mother do a daily bible study together alternating between old and new testament scripture noting that it helps him to fully understand the prophets with “Jesus in [his] heart.”

Another part of Shaffer’s life that he has been very open about is his battle with osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease.

Church Architecture Awards shortlists announced

There are two categories: new church buildings, re-orderings and extensions or alterations to existing church buildings feature in the 2018 Presidents’ Awards, while repairs are in the 2018 King of Prussia category.

Its shortlist of six buildings include a new chapel in the Highlands of Scotland built in Romanesque style with Celtic key patterns; the renovation of Ealing Green church – which was a response to the West London riots of 2011; St Michael & All Angels church in Summertown, Oxford, Grade II listed St Mark church in Clerkenwell, London and finally St Mary’s church, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

The 2018 King of Prussia Gold medal award is a separate category for church repair and conservation architecture.

That shortlist includes spire repairs to St Jude in Kensington (now occupied by St Mellitus Theological College) 15 tonnes of which had weathered away over the lifetime of the spire; roof repairs to St Peter, Paul and St Philomena’s church in New Brighton, Liverpool, a project which they say faced many challenges due to the then innovative use of reinforced concrete when the church was built in 1933.

Another nominee is the conservation work to St Mary Magdalene Church in Paddington in London – a project which has brought back to life the architectural and decorative quality of this Gothic Revival masterpiece.

The awards are run by the National…
