What Happened to National Youth Ministries and Conferences?

(Photo: CIY)High school students at a Christ in Youth “Move” conference at Chapman University in Southern California raise their hands in worship.

The movers and shakers of national youth ministry in America look a little different than they did 10 years ago.

While legacy organizations that have traditionally been relied on for providing curricula, resources and training to churches and youth ministers (such as Youth Specialties or Group Publishing) are still around today, they exist in somewhat diminished forms as challenges and new organizations have emerged on the scene.

Likewise, some national organizations like Dare 2 Share or Teen Mania that have been known for hosting national conferences and revival-like events attended by thousands of teens and pre-teens nationwide have either had to “reinvent” themselves or shut down entirely.

What is happening is what one expert in the field is calling the “tectonic plate shifting” in the world of youth ministry development and training.

“We saw just a plunge in national events in every industry with the recession that took place in 2008, 2009, 2010,” Mark Oestreicher, a partner with Youth Cartel, a San Diego-based organization that has trained hundreds of youth ministers since its founding in 2010, told The Christian Post. “In…

Pope honours victims of Soviet and Nazi crimes in Lithuania

Francis began his second day in the Baltics in Lithuania’s second city, Kaunas, where an estimated 3,000 Jews survived out of a community of 37,000 during the 1941-1944 Nazi occupation.

During Mass in the lush Santakos Park under a brilliant autumn sun, Francis honoured both Jewish victims of Nazi-era executions and the Lithuanians who were deported to Siberian gulags or were tortured and oppressed at home during five decades of Soviet occupation.

“Earlier generations still bear the scars of the period of the occupation, anguish at those who were deported, uncertainty about those who never returned, shame for those who were informers and traitors,” Francis told the crowd.

“Kaunas knows about this. Lithuania as a whole can testify to it, still shuddering at the mention of Siberia, or the ghettos of Vilnius and Kaunas, among others.”

He denounced those who get caught up in debating who was more virtuous in the past and fail to address the tasks of the present – an apparently veiled reference to historic revisionism that is afflicting much of Eastern Europe as it comes to terms with the Holocaust.

The issue is acute in Lithuania, where ordinary Lithuanians executed Jews alongside the Nazi occupiers, wiping out the Jewish population of the capital of Vilnius that was known for centuries as the “the Jerusalem of the North”…

Be the girl that God uniquely made you

In a video testimonial as part of the White Chair Film series, the 25-year-old American artist explained how growing up being told she was an “amazing singer” eventually damaged her.

Aged 12, she was dropped from a record label company and struggled with her identity.

“Every executive that I would talk to, there was always some reason they didn’t want to sign me,” she said during the 6-minute video.

“They wanted me to be this outgoing, bubbly personality, which I didn’t have, and that’s when I really started comparing myself to other people.

She explained how she found her true identity in Christ, sharing a message to her 12-year-old self and anyone else struggling with finding their true identity.

“One day you’re going to grow into your own skin and be the girl that God uniquely made as you,” she said close to tears.

“And you don’t have to compare yourself to anybody. I didn’t have to change myself; I can just be myself.”

Marriott to put Bible and Book of Mormon in 300,000 rooms

Sheraton, Westin and other Starwood hotels are expected to have the religious texts placed in the rooms by the end of the year.

Marriot’s founding family is active in the Mormon Church and has been putting both the Bible and the Book of Mormon in its rooms since opening its first hotel in the late 1950s.

Explaining the move, Marriot said in a statement sent to the Associated: “There are many guests who are not digitally connected who appreciate having one or both of these books available.

“It’s a tradition appreciated by many, objected to by few.”

The Bibles will be provided by Gideons International, which is a group that already donates Bibles free of charge to hotels, prisons, hospitals and other public places.

The costs for the Books of Mormon will be shared by the Marriott Foundation and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Service held to honour ancestors of African and Caribbean communities in Britain

Rev Canon Pitts – who is one of the first black women to be ordained as a Parish Priest in the Church of England in 1994, will host a Day of Remembrance on Sunday at Holy Trinity Church, Birchfield, in Birmingham.

Speaking to Premier ahead of the service, she told Premier why the day was so important.

“Four years ago I felt strongly that God was saying, ‘stop and let’s remember’. ‘And what is it we’re remembering?’ said one person.

“We’re remembering where we came from because unless you can remember where you’ve come from then it’s highly likely you won’t know where you’re going.”

The commemoration will be the second of its kind at the church.

Explaining why these victims should never be forgotten, she added: “It is about pausing to say, ‘we are here because they were there and we’ve arrived here because they were who they were’.

“A group of people – from whom I have descended died, were enslaved and it is my duty to remember that.”

The transatlantic slave trade was the largest enforced movement of people in history. It is estimated that 15-20 million men, women and children, were extracted from their homes and sold as slaves.

For more than 200 years Britain was at the heart of this lucrative transatlantic slave trade. Enslaved Africans and their descendants were central to the rise of it as an industrial power.

Representatives from the Anglican and Pentecostal…

‘I am the devil’ next to John Paul, jokes Pope Francis

As he greeted journalists en route to Lithuania, Francis was given a book about the former pope by Polish photographer Grzegorz Galazka.

Receiving the large book which features a beaming John Paul on the cover, Francis quipped: “(Pope John Paul II) was a saint, I am the devil.”

Laughing, Mr Galazka immediately corrected him: “No, you are both saints, you are both saints.”

Francis’s quip appeared to acknowledge that he has his detractors, particularly among conservative Catholics who long for the more doctrinaire papacies of John Paul and Benedict XVI.

The criticism of Francis by conservatives has grown more vocal recently amid the church’s sex abuse scandals and the distress over his opening to letting divorced and civilly remarried Catholics receive Communion.

Pray for Central Baptist Church

Location: Lawrenceville, Georgia

Pastor: Steven Greene

Weekly Worship: 10:45 AM, Eastern

Fast Facts: Central Baptist was founded 60 years ago with the vision to be a church where everyone was welcome. They wanted to reach the average person in their community for Christ. As the community grew and changed, the church strayed from that vision. Currently, Central is undergoing a revitalization under Pastor Greene’s leadership with the goal of reclaiming that original vision to be a church for everyone in their community. Central is celebrating her 60th anniversary on October 7th with a special service to “relaunch” the church. Please pray for the relaunch and for new laborers in the ministry.

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 23 September 2018 Devotional — On-Purpose Thinking

Topic: On-Purpose Thinking [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Sunday September 23, 2018]

Be devoted to one another with [authentic] brotherly affection [as members of one family], give preference to one another in honor. — Romans 12:10 (AMP)

The Bible teaches us that our words have power and we get exactly what we speak. Along with that, our thoughts affect our moods and attitudes. In other words, your attitude in life affects your altitude in life, meaning your attitude determines how far you can go in life—how far you can go in pursuing your dreams, relationships, business, etc.

Your thoughts and my thoughts will determine the kind of lives we will have in the future. And you don’t have to think about and focus on whatever falls into your head. You can think things on purpose. Sometimes, it is good to just sit down and have a think session. And then it’s good to have a confession session. After almost 40 years of knowing these things, I still have to practice them daily. Be determined to maintain good thoughts.

Prayer Starter: Lord, I want to be more purposeful with my thoughts and words. Holy Spirit, please help me today and every day to be more conscious about what I choose to think and say. Help me to line up my thoughts with Your Word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

MFM Daily Devotional 23 September 2018 – From Pain to Gain

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 23 September 2018 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – From Pain to Gain

TOPIC: From Pain to Gain (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 23 September 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Luke 8:43-48

MEMORY VERSE: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.Psalms 34:19

The MESSAGE:

The greatest motivation in taking actions that can bring about a drastic change is pain. Severe pain and hunger can push one into looking for what to eat; experiencing the pains of lack could motivate one to get a job. The pains from sickness could move one to see a doctor. Pain from unpleasant situations is a strong motivator and call for action. The Scripture says in 1 Peter 4:12: “Beloved, don’t be dismayed at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange has happened to you”. Pains and suffering are normal situations that will provoke you to seek positive actions. The Scripture says in James 1 verse 2: “Count it pure joy brethren when you are faced with trails of many kind.” In Luke 8:43-48, pain moved the woman with an issue of blood to meet Jesus. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all her money, but the situation remained the same. Twelve years of suffering and agony pushed her into looking for a solution desperately. The pain caused her to take a chance and activated the faith that was lying dormant in her heart into action.

Jeremiah 29 verse 13 says, “When you seek me you will find me.” Pain can either defeat you or develop you. It might move you to Jesus or move you away from God. No one has truly increased his or her strength without pain. After the pain comes the gain. You have to pass through the wilderness to get to Canaan. You must run the race of life with perseverance, get excuses off your path, obstacles must come but they must also be removed. “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus the Author and Perfecter of our faith.” Pains come to train us, they teach us what really matters, and to grow us in areas we are not fit. During the time of pain, develop strong faith because faith will encourage you to look beyond the pain. You will always gain after every pain with God by your side, in Jesus’ name.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
LIFE IS FILLED WITH PEAKS, VALLEYS AND CHALLENGES TO TEST OUR RESILIENCE. THE LESSONS WE LEARN ON OUR WAY TO THE TOP ARE DESIGNED TO MAKE US STRONGER.

PROPHETIC WORD:
The Lord shall turn your sorrow to laughter.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Powers assigned to celebrate my pains, die, in the name of Jesus.
2. Decree of sorrow and pain upon my life, scatter, in the name of Jesus.
3. Power to endure to the end, possess me now, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. My Father, convert my pains to gain, in the name of Jesus.
5. Satanic embargo of affliction and pain upon my life, die, in the name of Jesus.
6. Arrow of failure fired into my life, backfire, in the name of Jesus.
7. I shall not die in the wilderness of life, in the name of Jesus.

TREM 23 September 2018 Daily Devotional – Grace Teaches

Topic: Grace Teaches [TREM 23 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world”; Titus 2:11-12 (KJV)

I have heard some people say because there is grace now, I don’t have to obey anything. I don’t have to do anything, grace has covered me. No! In fact, grace teaches you. It teaches you to do right. Grace teaches you to love spouse. Grace teaches you to live right without struggle. If your experience with grace is not one where you are taught how to live for God, then it is not grace. 1 John 2:27 says “you would not need any man to teach you…” In other words, I will teach you myself. No one will need to teach you, because the Lord Himself, Who is Grace-personified, will teach you all truth, so that you abide in Him.

Grace teaches you to give without any struggle because you realize that God is your source. Grace makes you understand that your giving is not a case of “I must”, or out of compulsion; rather, it is because you want to, in response to what God has done for you. You give and make sacrifices because you trust Him. You recognize Him as your source. You don’t have to be supervised to give it. You know that He paid the price for you.

Grace doesn’t tell you: “Now that you are under grace, don’t give again”. Mind you, this is not in reference to financial giving alone – it covers all aspects of our lives – time, gifts, resources, skills, expertise, etc. Grace teaches that much more than anything else, you give more than you have ever given in time past, because you realise that you are saved to serve. God requires your talent. As a matter of fact, they are all His investments in your life. Why then, wouldn’t you use them to His glory? Everything belongs to Him.

Beloved, there is nothing that you own or you have achieved that should take the place of God in your life. God alone is your source. As He is your source, then you must learn to trust Him. Don’t play games with Him. He has done it all. He has blessed you with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places. The least you can do is to respond by what you do for Him in appreciation. That is all! You don’t do anything to make Him do anything. He has already done everything, with or without you.
