Religious Education should be broadened to Religion and Worldviews, commission finds

Agnosticism, atheism, humanism and secularism or incorporated into teaching, the Commission on Religious Education document recommends.

The body – which comprises 14 top academics, advisers and teachers – warns RE is not good enough in helping youngsters engage with different beliefs.

Chair, the Dean of Westminster Very Rev Dr John Hall said: “Life in Britain, indeed life in our world, is very different from life in the 1970s when religious education began to include other world religions and beliefs besides Christianity.

“At present, the quality of religious education in too many schools is inadequate in enabling pupils to engage deeply with the worldviews they will encounter.

“Many structural changes in education in the past 20 years have unintentionally undermined the integrity of RE in the school curriculum.

“The commission is proposing a fresh start for the subject with a vision for the teaching of Religion and Worldviews in every school.”

Following a two year consultation, the Commission proposes a new National Entitlement setting out a minimum level of teaching students in all schools can expect.

Rev Stephen Terry from the Accord Coalition for Inclusive Education said the Commission had shown insight to recognise Religious Education must be updated.

He told Premier: “Religious Education is governed by structures…

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 9 September 2018 – Love Is Sacrificial

TOPIC: Love Is Sacrificial (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries Sunday, 9 September 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: John 15:8-14

MEMORY VERSE: Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.”1 Corinthians 13:4

The MESSAGE:

Romans 12:10 gives a charge that we should have kind affection for one another with brotherly love, in honour, preferring one another. If you love your brother in Christ you will give of your life to accommodate him. You will not find it difficult to tolerate his weaknesses while interceding for him to come out of the situation he or she is facing. You will show kindness to others even when they do not deserve it or request for it. Envy is not a fruit of the Spirit but the work of the flesh. If you love your brother, you will identify with his successes and praise the Lord for His goodness upon his life. The situation of the Corinthians addressed by Paul is still dominant among believers today. They lack the knowledge and meaning of real love, and therefore, behave in a manner that is not pleasing to the Lord. Like the Corinthians, believers take vengeance against one another and even sue one another. They keep record of wrongs committed against them and spread it among other brethren to enlist support against the one that offended them. They bear grudges and harbour bitterness without any regard for the preaching on forgiveness. Love does not rejoice in iniquity, but we see believers today rejoicing over the sad news of a brother or sister who had fallen into fornication or adultery. What makes good news to them is not that the fire of regeneration and sanctification has evidently touched a believer, but that people have fallen from grace. We should learn from Noah’s sons and seek to prayerfully restore the fallen brethren rather than broadcast their sins to the whole congregation. Engage love to help them make things right and put the shame on the devil rather than expose your brother to ridicule and shame. Failure to apply love will drive people away from the church. Be careful.

The commandment of the Lord is that we love one another as He loved us. His love is sacrificial. He took our sins that we may be free. He laid down His life that we may live. He became poor that we may be rich. He took away our infirmities that we may be healed. He became a man of sorrows and afflicted of men that we may have everlasting joy and peace. Unless you are ready to make sacrifices, forego your pride, your rights, your status, your wealth and your position for Christ’s sake, you may not be able to fulfill the commandment of love. This is a failure you will not allow in your life because of the consequences of inability to love. May the Lord help you to love sacrificially, in the mighty name of Jesus.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
ENVY IS NOT A FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT, BUT WORK OF THE FLESH.

PROPHETIC WORD:
The power to love as Jesus loves is released upon you now!

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Let the love of Christ fill my heart, in the name of Jesus.
2. Holy Spirit, give me the fruit of love, in the name of Jesus.
3. Lord Jesus, unite Your church with agape love, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. O Lord, let Your love bind us together as a church, in the name of Jesus.
5. Satanic attacks against the true love of Christ in the church, be arrested and die, in the name of Jesus.
6. Agents of darkness working against believers, be exposed and be disgraced, in the name of Jesus.
7. O Lord, help me to love my brethren the way I love myself, in the name of Jesus.

David Ibiyeomie: Effective Prayer

Effective Prayer -By David Ibiyeomie

Topic: Effective Prayer

Not every prayer produces result; many people pray but few obtain answers. There are factors that can help you to pray in a way that it can produce the intended result. When you pray, you are giving earthly approval for heavenly involvement.

Matt.18:18 -Verily I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Prayer is communicating with God on the basis of His word and our relationship with Him. There are certain ingredients that can produce result when applied during prayer. Effectiveness in prayer is not measured by your acrobatic display or by the extent of noise you make while praying. Effective prayer is not measured by the volume of tears you shed; it is not also measured by your complaints.

Heb.4:12 – For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

God’s word reveals His will, His ways and His promises to you. God’s word is a very vital instrument during prayer because it communicates God’s desires and His ways to us. When you know His words, you know what He actually wants and expects from you. Knowledge of God’s word will also help you to know the capacity of what He can do. A good knowledge of God’s ways will grant quick answers to prayer.

Dan.11:32b – … but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

God’s word reveals His person, His abilities and capabilities; thus, if you know God’s words, it then means that you know God. You cannot do exploit without the knowledge of God’s word.

James 4:3 – Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Knowledge of God’s word will also enable you not to ask amiss. It is not every request made in prayer is granted because some people ask amiss in prayer. When you know God’s word, you will ask in line with His word and not deviate.

To win a case in court, a lawyer must cite relevant laws and references applicable to that situation. With that, the judgement will be delivered on his behalf. So also, when you appear before the supreme court of the entire universe, you ought to refer to the constitution which is the word of God and cite scriptures relevant to your request. God is always looking for opportunities to honour His word.

Isaiah 43:26 -Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.

God’s word guides us to the use of scriptural language in prayer. When you speak scriptural language in prayer, God’s response will be favourable because you are speaking His language. Therefore, speedy delivery of answers to your prayer is tied to your correct use of scriptural language because God cannot break His word or that which has come out of His lips.

You can obtain wisdom on how to approach prayer in various dimensions from God’s word. There is a dimension of talking with God and another dimension of addressing the devil.

Learn to adequately prepare before praying. Prayer is dynamic; so, at every situation, you should go and strategize. Locate appropriate scripture applicable to the area of need, meditate on them and war with the word accordingly. Have faith that your prayer is answered and continuously thank God for the answered prayer and the answers will manifest speedily in the name of Jesus! Your desires will surely be granted and victory will be guaranteed in the name of Jesus the Christ –Amen!!!

God bless you

TREM 9 September 2018 Daily Devotional – Enter Your Rest

Topic: Enter Your Rest [TREM 9 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

“There remaineth therefore a rest for the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” – Hebrews 4:9-11 (KJV)

Our labour as God’s people is not the labour to get. If you labour to get, then you’ve got it backwards. If you are labouring for what to eat, what to drink, what to wear, shelter over your head, money in your pocket, how to get healed, how to get a husband, wife or how to be pregnant; you’ve got it backwards. Because the impression you are giving, is as though God is in trouble. However, when God finished His work after creation, He rested. Since then, He has continued to rest.

Beloved God rested, not because He was tired, but because He had finished all the work; there was nothing remaining that needed to be done. You will find out by the law of first mention that God’s intention for us His children is to rest. It was after God had completed His work, that He introduced man. Man was not introduced until God finished. Genesis 1:26-27 says, “Let us make man in our image and after our likeness; … in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” He created them in his own image. In His nature, character and in the likeness of His functioning we were made.

With this understanding, what does it then mean to rest? Resting means to believe in the immutability and infallibility of that which God has already done for you. You believe with all your heart that, irrespective of what you’re faced with, God’s counsel must stand. It cannot fail. The rest zone is a “struggle-free zone”. I’m not advising you to be lazy and throw your feet up, expecting miracles – no! God is not a magician. Rather, let everything you do, be done in the light of what He has done for you; with the understanding that the matter has been decided in your favour, and you are victorious. It is your season of Rest!

Our Daily Bread 9 September 2018 Devotional – They Smelled Like Christ

Topic: They Smelled Like Christ [Our Daily Bread 9 September 2018 Devotional]

Read: 2 Corinthians 2:14–17, Bible in a Year: Proverbs 6–7; 2 Corinthians 2

For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved. – 2 Corinthians 2:15

Hot and dusty, Bob dismounted from the bus he had ridden to a city far from home. He was tired from a long day of travel and grateful that he would be able to have dinner with friends of friends who lived in the area. They welcomed him in, and he immediately felt a sense of peace. He felt at home, comfortable, safe, and valued.

Later, wondering why he had felt such peace in an unfamiliar place, Bob found an answer in 2 Corinthians. The apostle Paul describes people who follow God as having the “pleasing aroma of Christ.” “That’s exactly it!” Bob said to himself. His hosts had “smelled like” Christ.

When Paul says that God leads His people in Christ’s “triumphal procession” spreading the fragrance of His truth, he’s referring to a practice in the ancient world. Victorious armies would burn incense as they marched through the streets. For their supporters, the smell brought joy. In the same way, Paul says the people of God carry a pleasing fragrance to those who believe. It isn’t something we create on our own but something God gives as He leads us in spreading the knowledge of Him.

Bob is my dad, and that trip to a faraway town took place more than forty years ago, but he’s never forgotten it. He’s still telling the story of the people who smelled like Christ.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for leading Your people in triumph and spreading the fragrance of Your truth through us.

Who smells like Christ to you?

Kenneth & Gloria Copeland 9 September 2018 – Exercise Your Rights

Topic: Exercise Your Rights [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland 9 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. – Isaiah 53:5

Jesus came to earth and gave Himself as a sacrifice for sin in order to buy back for you everything that Adam lost. He came to destroy all the works of the devil…sickness and disease included. Once you receive Him as Lord of your life, all the rights and privileges God originally intended you to have (the right to things like fellowship with God, health and prosperity) are restored.

But you are the one who has to exercise those rights!

You see, the devil is an outlaw and even though Jesus has taken away his authority in the earth, even though he has no legal right to kill or steal from the children of God, he’ll do it anyway…as long as you’ll let him get away with it.

You must enforce his defeat by speaking the Word of God in faith. Act on His Word now. Demand that sickness and disease leave you in the Name of Jesus. Then refuse to back off that demand. Resist the devil with all you’ve got. He might fight you for a while, but sooner or later, he will have to flee from you!

DCLM Daily Manna 9 September 2018 – Submit Fully To Him

Topic: Submit Fully To Him [DCLM Daily Manna 9 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: Numbers 16:12-32 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation? (Numbers 16:22).

MESSAGE:

The responsibility of spiritual leadership often goes hand-in- hand with some challenges that prove overwhelming and at times, unbearable. These may include fiery opposition from certain influential members of the assembly one leads.

Moses, the man of God, was faced with opposition to his spiritual authority over the children of Israel through the action of Dathan and Abiram who showed disregard to his call: “And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up” (Numbers 16:12). This was a follow-up to an earlier gang up, which included Korah and two hundred and fifty (250) princes, “famous in the congregation, men of renown” (Numbers 16:1,2). Dathan and Abiram accused Moses of purposeless leadership with empty promises of blessing. What complicated the matter was the fact that the rebels were “sons of Levi”, from a tribe called of the Lord to serve God.

Satan can use anybody for his evil purpose. God’s judgment was about to fall upon the whole congregation because of the sin of a few. This was reduced through the intercession of Moses and Aaron. Despite this, the Lord still punished them with a destruction that had never been heard of (Numbers 16:30-32). God is to be feared and every act of sin that is not repented of will be judged. Pride and vainglory destroyed Dathan and his co-travellers. Greed ended the life and ministry of Judas. Determine fully today to set your affections on Christ and turn away from every appearance of evil.

Thought For The Day: God’s judgment has no respect for class or persons.

Seeds of Destiny 9 September 2018 – Further Keys to Activating Faith

Topic: Further Keys to Activating Faith [Seeds of Destiny 9 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

Scripture: By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. Hebrews 11:8

Thought For The Day: Until thought changes, actions and results can never change.

Yesterday, we looked at four ways in which faith can be activated: we saw that receiving faith instructions, accessing Word revelations, possessing heart conviction and releasing faith declarations are keys to the activation of faith.

In continuation of yesterday’s message, there is a need to look at further keys to activating faith.

Now, what are the other ways of activating our faith in God?

1. Operate Faith Mind-Set
To make faith work, we must operate the faith mind-set: the faith mind-set is a victory, dominion and superiority mind-set. The faith-mind-set is very important in the activation of faith because mentality determines reality. Until thought changes, actions and results can never change; it is thought quality that determines life’s quality.

2. Maintain Faith Vision
What you see determines what you seize; what you picture determines what you capture; what crosses your mind determines what crosses your life; what is beyond your view is beyond your reach. Faith vision determines manifestations in life. Faith pictures a scripture and ventures to capture the reality of that picture.

3. Embark on Faith Actions
Identify and embark on faith actions. These are actions that line up with the Word of God; actions that confirm that you believe God’s Word, actions that portray your acceptance of scriptural responsibility.

4. Engage in Faith Praise
Faith is not in place until praise to God is expressed (Psalm 106:12). To believe God’s Word is to sing His praise. Faith praises God even when the results are not yet obvious.

Beloved, when you combine faith mind-set, faith vision, faith action with faith praise, you would see great results and manifestations in life.

Remember this: Until thought changes, actions and results can never change.

Assignments:
1. Operate the faith mind-set and cultivate faith visions for living.
2. Engage in faith actions and praise.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the grace to operate the faith mind-set, cultivate faith vision, embark on faith actions and engage in faith praise in Jesus’ Name.

Andrew Wommack 9 September 2018 Daily Devotional

Topic: Believe That You Have Received [Andrew Wommack 9 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

Matthew 21:19 “And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.”

Text: Matthew 21:18-19

The Greek word for presently means “instantly; immediately; soon.” However, the disciples didn’t realize that the fig tree had died until the next day. If the tree died instantly, why didn’t they notice it until the next morning? The answer to this question is found in Mark 11:20. The tree was dead from the roots up. The tree did die instantly just as the Word declared, but what had happened to the roots wasn’t visible until the next morning.

There is a spiritual lesson here that applies to us receiving things from God. When we ask, we do receive, but it may take a period of time before we perceive it in the natural realm. God’s answer comes before we see the manifestation of what we have believed the Lord for when we prayed. Just as with this fig tree, the answer lies beneath the surface, and therefore we don’t “see” what God is doing until the answer manifests.

Not all answers to prayer are manifested instantly. Satan can hinder God’s power even after it has been released. In Daniel 10:1-13, God answered Daniel’s prayer instantly, yet it took 21 days for Daniel to see God’s answer manifest, because the prince of Persia (a demonic power) withheld the manifestation.

Prayer that meets the requirements outlined in God’s Word is always answered.

Many times we don’t perceive the answer because it always comes in the spiritual realm first then is manifested in the physical realm. If we waver from our confident faith, then we abort the manifestation of our answer to prayer. But God did answer. Everyone that asks receives.

Billy Graham 9 September 2018 – Science & Faith

Topic: Science & Faith [Billy Graham Daily Devotional 9 September 2018]

He . . . has given you a full understanding of the truth. — 1 Corinthians 1:5 (TLB)

There is never any conflict between true science and our Christian faith. It is my own feeling that when all of the truth is known, it will be found that the Genesis story is a wonderfully accurate record of what took place when the world was created. This may be a telescoped record, giving only major points, but I believe it is scientifically accurate. To discard the Bible because we do not understand everything in it, or in the world, would be a foolish thing to do. Let me also suggest that teachers should confine themselves to those areas in which they are qualified. I have known unbelievers to attack the Christian faith through their teaching, even when they did not have the remotest idea of what true Christianity is. For instance, one does not send an art critic to write up a football game, or a sports writer to evaluate a painting. Ask God to give you the wisdom to keep things in their proper perspective, and—above all—faithfully read your Bible and pray every day. If you do, God will give you the faith and wisdom you need to meet any problem.

Prayer for the day: Father, each day as I read the Bible You reveal to me more of the reality of Your love and wisdom. I delight in Your Word!
