Billy Graham 7 September 2018 – The Mystery of Heaven

Topic: The Mystery of Heaven [Billy Graham Daily Devotional 7 September 2018]

I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. — Psalm 23:6

What will heaven be like? Just as there is a mystery to hell, so there is a mystery to heaven. Yet I believe the Bible teaches that heaven is a literal place. Is it one of the stars? I don’t know, I can’t even speculate. The Bible doesn’t inform us. I believe that out there in space where there are one thousand million galaxies, each a hundred thousand light years or more in diameter, God can find some place to put us in heaven. I’m not worried about where it is. I know it will be where Jesus is. Christians don’t have to go around discouraged and despondent, with their shoulders bent. Think of it-the joy, the peace, the sense of forgiveness that He gives you, and then heaven, too.

Prayer for the day: Whatever I face, Lord, my heart rejoices in the knowledge of my ultimate destination—heaven— where I will live with You for eternity!

Jordin Sparks Shares How Birth of Son Re-inspired Her Christian Faith

Jordin Sparks Shares How Birth of Son Re-inspired Her Christian Faith

Singer and Actress Jordin Sparks sat down with the Christian Post to talk about her faith and relationship with Jesus in light of her upcoming film “God Bless the Broken Road.”

Sparks told the media outlet about how the birth of her 4-month-old son, DJ, has deepened her faith in Jesus, noting that she prays over her son every night.

She said, “Having my son completely changed my perspective on everything.”

“Every time I rock him to sleep, I start drifting into prayer over the choices he makes, the people he meets, and everything that’s going to happen in his life. I pray, ‘Lord, let him be strong when he needs to be, let him be kind in certain moments, let him be soft in certain moments, let him be compassionate, let him be passionate about other things and other people,'” she continued.

Sparks said while laughing, “That prayer usually trails into a whole bunch of other prayers, depending on how long it takes him to get to sleep.”

The singer and her husband, Dana Isaiah Thomas, welcomed DJ into the world on May 2.

When speaking about the birth of her son, Sparks, 28, said, “My faith became so much deeper because I caught a glimpse of the love the Father has for us.”

She continued, “I wasn’t prepared for the level of love I felt and the feelings that I never could’ve imagined before. I just look at DJ and I smile and I just want to cry because he’s…

Study Finds Religious People Less Likely than Atheists to Be Depressed When Lonely

Study Finds Religious People Less Likely than Atheists to Be Depressed When Lonely

Religious people are less likely than atheists to be depressed when they are lonely, according to a new study by psychologists at the University of Michigan.

Those who believe in God are also more likely to maintain their will to live, the study found. It involved interviews with 19,775 people and was published in the Journal of Personality.

“For the socially disconnected, God may serve as a substitutive relationship that compensates for some of the purpose that human relationships would normally provide,” doctoral student Todd Chan, the lead author in the study, said, according to the Daily Mail

Subjects were asked about their religious beliefs, friendships, feelings of loneliness and sense of purpose, according to the newspaper.

“Our research suggests, given two people who feel equally disconnected, the individual who feels more connected to God will have a better sense of purpose in life,” co-author Nicholas Michalak added.

But God doesn’t serve as a substitute for all human interaction, the study found.

“Quality human connections still remain a primary and enduring source of purpose in life,” it said.

The study seems to support the biblical teaching of God creating man to be relational. Echoing the Bible, the study shows the importance of serving one another and rejoicing and weeping with one…

Open Heavens 7 September 2018 – Do You Know Jesus?

Open Heavens 7 September 2018 Friday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – Do You Know Jesus?

Topic: Do You Know Jesus?

Memorise: “And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.”Matthew 26:72

Read: Matthew 16:13-16, Mark 10:35-40 (KJV)

Matthew 16:13-16:
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Mark 10:35-40:
35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.

36 And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?

37 They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

38 But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

39 And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:

40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 132-138, Mark 3:31-4:20

Open Heavens 7 September 2018 Friday MESSAGE:

As a believer in Christ who has obtained the saving knowledge of the Lord, you might consider the question we are reflecting on today to be elementary or irrelevant, but I encourage you to wisely give it some thought. This becomes even more necessary when you consider the fact that after months of being with Jesus day and night, He still turned around to His disciples and asked them in Matthew 16:15b:

“But whom say ye that I am?”

In spite of their closeness to Him, the Lord did not assume that His disciples really knew Him. Knowing Jesus is more than knowing Him as Savior, Master or even Lord. After years of walking with the Lord, Paul still wrote in Philippians 3:10:

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;”

As I was growing up in faith, I wondered what else Paul wanted to know about Jesus that he had not known already. Now I know better that we might not be able to know Jesus to His fullness until we see Him in glory (1 Corinthians 13:12). My prayer is that the measure of knowledge that will enable you to be with Him eternally will be given to you today in Jesus’ Name. Beloved, how much of the power of Jesus’ resurrection do you know? To what extent do you think the power that resurrected Jesus Christ can work for, in and through you? How much of His suffering can you share and endure? Are you ready to be conformable to his death?

If Peter really knew Jesus, he would not have argued with Him when He told him that he would deny Him thrice (Matthew 26:34-35). Do you now see the wisdom of Paul’s longing and prayer to know the Lord? It was their lack of a deep knowledge of Jesus that made two of His closest disciples make the demand that they made in today’s Bible reading. No wonder Jesus said to them in Mark 10:38b:

“Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”

When Peter came face to face with the reality of what Jesus Christ told him, he realized how little he knew the Master (Matthew 26:75). I pray for you today that the grace to know Jesus the way you should know Him will be bestowed upon you today. To know Christ is to know victory, and it is to know the resurrection, the truth and the life. Come to Him in humility today if you really want to know Him, as He invites you to come and learn of Him (Matthew 11:28-30).

Open Heavens 7 September 2018 Friday Prayer Point:

Father, help me to know Jesus and His power of resurrection, and as I get to know Him, let me be conformed to his image.

Open Heavens 7 September 2018 Friday Hymn 15: Nearer My God To Thee

1. Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

2. Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me, my rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

3. There let me see the sight, an open Heaven;
All that Thou sendest me, in mercy given;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

4. Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

California Senator Diane Feinstein Falsely Claims 1.2 Million Women Died from Illegal Abortions

California Senator Diane Feinstein Falsely Claims 1.2 Million Women Died from Illegal Abortions

This week, during the Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh hearings, California Senator Dianne Feinstein said that she has sentenced women to jail for illegal abortions.

Feinstein is not a judge or attorney, but she says she was an appointee of Governor Edmund Gerald Brown in the 1960s and helped set terms and parole requirements for women in California, according to LifeNews.com.

“And so I sentenced women who had committed abortions to state prison and granted them paroles, and so came to see both sides— the terrible side and the human and vulnerable side,” she said.

This isn’t the first time Feinstein has claimed to make those types of sentences. In January 2017, she said, “As you know, the constitution protects woman’s right to access to health care. I’m old enough to remember what it was like before.

“When I was a student at Stanford and thereafter and the early 1960s, I actually sentenced women in California convicted of felony abortion to state prison for a maximum sentences of up to 10 years and they still went back to it because the need was so great.”

According to LifeNews.com, Feinstein is neither a judge nor attorney.

Ed Whelan, with the National Review, said Feinstein did serve on the California Parole Board in the 1960s, however, no women were ever prosecuted for obtaining abortions in California prior…

Christians in Egypt Jailed for Worshipping in Unlicensed House

Christians in Egypt Jailed for Worshipping in Unlicensed House

September 6, 2018 (Morning Star News) – Authorities yesterday ordered 15 more days of jail for Christians arrested on Aug. 22 in Egypt for worshipping in a house without a permit, rights activists said.

After Muslim mobs demonstrated against the Virgin Mary and St. Mahrael church in Luxor Governorate, 435 miles south of Cairo, police accused the Coptic Catholics of worshipping without a permit, according to Coptic rights activist Safwat Samaan.

Police closed the church in Al-Zeneeqa village, in Esna, which has been holding worship services at the site for 18 years, according to Samaan. Five Muslims were also arrested, with another 10 arrested on Aug. 24 as they prepared another demonstration against the church, according to U.S.-based Catholic publications The Tablet.

The Copts were arrested even though they did not take any action against the demonstrators, the Catholic outlet reported. Besides charging the Christians with worshipping in an unlicensed venue, they charged them and the Muslims with illegal gathering, disrupting public peace and inciting sectarian strife, according to local media.

The church was the third one in Luxor closed in four months after Muslim extremists protested their existence, giving police the pretext of “security” threats for shuttering them. Hundreds of churches have submitted applications for legalization under a…

Why Don’t Protestants Talk More About Demons, Exorcism, Spiritual World?

(Screenshot: Q Ideas)Adam Blai (L), peritus of religious demonology and exorcism for the diocese of Pittsburgh, speaks at a Q conference in April 2018 while Q founder Gabe Lyons (R) looks on.

Christians from Protestant denominations rarely, if ever, hear about demons or the spiritual world in their churches. So when a Catholic expert in demonology provided somewhat of a crash course at a Q conference on how demons behave and how exorcisms work, it was all people could talk about.

Gabe Lyons, founder of Q, recently revealed that the discussion in April on the spiritual world ended up being one of their “top talks” that people were most challenged by and raving about. And Adam Blai, peritus of religious demonology and exorcism for the diocese of Pittsburgh who trains priests in exorcism, wasn’t surprised.

“There’s an inherent interest in these matters,” he told Lyons during a follow-up Q&A last month. “I’m not sure why that is except that perhaps it’s one of the places where the spiritual world really becomes physical. I think on a basic human level, that is inherently interesting to us. It’s the reason they make movies about it.”

Moreover, exorcisms and dealing with demons constitute about a third of Jesus’ miracles in the gospels, Blai noted. “You’re not only talking…

New virtual reality tour shows Jerusalem in Bible times

The Tower of David Museum and the ToD Innovation Lab partnered with Lithodomos VR to create Jerusalem VR Tours: Step into History.

It’s the first mobile VR walking tour in Israel and takes tourists through the Old City as it was during the time of King Herod, about 2000 years ago.

Eilat Lieber, Director of the Tower of David Museum said: “The best view of Jerusalem is still from the top of King Herod’s tower built at the Tower of David Museum. However, until now, it took a distinguishing eye and a creative mind to really imagine the city that was.

‘I am excited that today with VR technology, the Tower of David Museum is enabling visitors to Jerusalem to explore the city of today … and step into history, exploring the city as it was two millennia ago.”

The VR headset allows tourists to explore different aspects of ancient Jerusalem including religious life and commercial activities.

The two and a half hour guided tour is available in English and Hebrew. I begins at Tower of David Museum and ending in the Jewish Quarter.

Anne Graham Lotz Opens Up about Having Breast Cancer

Anne Graham Lotz Opens Up about Having Breast Cancer

On Monday, Evangelist Anne Graham Lotz revealed on her website that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Lotz wrote in a post on her website, “On the afternoon of August 17, 2015, between 3:00 and 3:30, as you may know, I discovered my husband, Danny, unresponsive in our pool. Two days later he was Home! Three years to the day, on the afternoon of August 17, 2018, at the very same time of day…3:00 to 3:30…I was diagnosed with breast cancer.”

Lotz continued saying, “When I realized the strange ‘coincidence’ of the timing, I came to the chilling conclusion that it was an assignment from the enemy.”

But Lotz found comfort in the Lord saying, “But just as that thought was forming, I heard the soft, gentle whisper of the Spirit, reminding me that it was on a Friday, during that very same time…between 3:00 and 3:30 in the afternoon…that God’s Passover Lamb was sacrificed. Jesus died on the very same day of the week, at the very same time of the day, crushing the head of the serpent, forever defeating the devil and death.”

Lotz went on to assert that she is trusting God, “who is ultimately in control,” with her diagnosis.

The daughter of the late Billy Graham said, “Each day since the diagnosis God has given me promises and encouragement from His Word. God has been…and is…my refuge and strength, an ever-present help in this trouble. Therefore, I…

Anne Graham Lotz Announces She Has Breast Cancer; Undergoing Treatment, Surgery: ‘Please Pray for Me’

(Photo: Anne Graham Lotz Facebook)Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of evangelist Billy Graham, revealed she has cancer.

Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of the late evangelist Billy Graham and an evangelist in her own right, has announced she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Lotz, 70, discovered that she had cancer during the afternoon of Aug. 17, three years to the day, and during the same time of day, when she discovered that her now late husband was unresponsive in their pool. He died two days later.

“The Refiner has just added fuel to the fire in my life,” she wrote on her website explaining her perspective Monday on receiving this news in a post titled “My Cancer: My Fuel for the Fire.”

“When I realized the strange ‘coincidence’ of the timing, I came to the chilling conclusion that it was an assignment from the enemy. But just as that thought was forming, I heard the soft, gentle whisper of the Spirit, reminding me that it was on a Friday, during that very same time … between 3:00 and 3:30 in the afternoon … that God’s Passover Lamb was sacrificed.”

She added: “So I am left to worship and totally trust our God who is ultimately in control. Of everything.”

Lotz asked for prayers for God to heal her in “whichever way He deems would bring Him the most glory,” whether with…
