More Than 3,000 Evangelicals, Churches Join John MacArthur in Statement Against ‘Nebulous’ Social Justice

(Photo: Rocket Republic via Flicker)MLK50 Conference hosted by the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention and The Gospel Coalition in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 2018.

More than 3,000 evangelical Christians and organizations have joined well-known theologian and pastor, John MacArthur, in endorsing a statement on social justice and the purported dangers the concept poses to the Gospel.

The statement comes in the wake of MacArthur’s recent controversial series that brands social justice as a real threat to the Gospel.

“Clarity on these issues will fortify believers and churches to withstand an onslaught of dangerous and false teachings that threaten the gospel, misrepresent Scripture, and lead people away from the grace of God in Jesus Christ,” the statement explains in an introduction.

“Specifically, we are deeply concerned that values borrowed from secular culture are currently undermining Scripture in the areas of race and ethnicity, manhood and womanhood, and human sexuality. The Bible’s teaching on each of these subjects is being challenged under the broad and somewhat nebulous rubric of concern for ‘social justice,'” it continued. “If the doctrines of God’s Word are not uncompromisingly reasserted and defended at these points,…

Stop Telling Gay People They’ll Become Straight If They Become Christian

(Photo: CBN video)This video still from a CBN feature shows Jackie Hill-Perry and husband, Preston Perry, with their daughter, Eden.

Rapper, writer, preacher and poet Jackie Hill Perry, who once identified as a lesbian, says churches should stop telling gays that they will become heterosexual if they become Christian.

In her newly released book, Gay Girl, Good God, a part of which was published on DesiringGod.org, Perry speaks about what she described as “the heterosexual gospel.”

“The heterosexual gospel is one that encourages SSA men and women to come to Jesus so that they can be straight, or it says that coming to Jesus ensures that they will be sexually attracted to the opposite sex,” explains Perry.

“It usually sounds like, ‘I know you’re struggling with being gay. I can promise you, if you give your life to Jesus, he will completely deliver you from those desires because he loves you.’ Or, ‘I know a guy that used to be gay and now he’s married. Jesus will do the same for you if you trust him.'”

Perry, who used to be a lesbian but is now married to a man and has two daughters, warns that the “heterosexual gospel” is problematic because it “tends to put more emphasis on marriage as the goal of the Christian life than on knowing Jesus.”

“What the gay community needs to hear is not that God will make them straight, but that Christ can make them his,” she continues.

“Someone trying to pursue heterosexuality and not Christ is just as far from a right standing with God as someone actively pursuing homosexuality. They have put their faith in a new ‘orientation’ rather than in knowing the…

Israeli Minister Denies Claims that He Knew Trump Ordered Assad Killed

Israeli Minister Denies Claims that He Knew Trump Ordered Assad Killed

Israel’s intelligence minister said this week he was not aware of a claim that President Donald Trump ordered the killing of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

“I do not know of any such instruction. He (Trump) is also denying it, by the way,” Israeli Intelligence Minister Israel Katz told Tel Aviv radio station 103 FM.

According to a new book by Watergate reporter Bob Woodward, Fear: Trump in the White House, Trump told his defense secretary that he wanted to have Assad assassinated in response to a chemical attack on Syrian civilians in April 2017.

James Mattis, the defense secretary, told Trump he would “get right on it” but he then created a plan for a limited air strike.

“We’re not going to do any of that,” Mattis told an aide. “We’re going to be much more measured.”

Mattis dismissed the book as “a uniquely Washington brand of literature.”

Trump, meanwhile, tweeted that quotes attributed to Mattis were “made up frauds, a con on the public.”

Press secretary Sarah Sanders said the book is “nothing more than fabricated stories, many by former disgruntled employees, told to make the president look bad.”

Woodward also said in the book that former top economic adviser Gary Cohn allegedly stole a letter off Trump’s desk that would have withdrawn the United States from a trade agreement with South Korea. Allegedly, the president…

Turkey indicates release of detained US pastor Brunson unlikely

Mr Brunson is standing trial in Turkey over terrorism charges, which lies at the heart of a diplomatic crisis between Ankara and Washington and has prompted a crash of Turkey’s lira currency.

According to the Hurriyet newspaper, which published Mr Erdogan’s comments, the president told reporters that Turkey followed the rule of law and the US would not be able to make progress in the case by using threats.

Brunson who was working as a missionary, was arrested in October 2016 and later charged with links to a failed plot to overthrow the Turkish government in July 2016. Prosecutors are calling for a 35-year prison sentence in his case.

Supporters claim he is effectively a political prisoner being held as a bargaining chip by Turkey as it seeks the extradition of preacher Fethullah Gülen, which it blames for the failed coup.

Tens of thousands of people have been arrested and lost their jobs following the failed coup attempt.

Franklin Graham Speaks Out Against Democrat’s Comparison of Abortion to a Tonsillectomy

Franklin Graham Speaks Out Against Democrat’s Comparison of Abortion to a Tonsillectomy

In an interview with The Weekly Standard, Dr. Tony Evers, the Democratic candidate running for governor of Wisconsin, compared having an abortion to having a tonsillectomy.

The news outlet asked the candidate if he was in favor of funding for abortions to come from Medicaid.

Evers replied saying, “We need to have the Medicaid money be available for all people and restricting it because of a certain procedure, whether it’s a tonsillectomy or any other procedure, seems to me a foolhardy thing to do.”

When evangelist Franklin Graham got wind of this comparison he decided to speak out about it.

Graham took to Facebook writing, “What does it say about our culture when it is acceptable to compare an abortion to a tonsillectomy? That’s pretty unbelievable.”

He continued, “An abortion is the killing of a child in the womb, intentionally ending a life. Taxpayers paying for tonsil removal is not at all the same as paying for an abortion.”

Graham went on to say, “Far too many people who want to be governors, legislators, professors, and teachers in this nation have fallen prey to a culture of death philosophy. They are denying the worth of millions of children made in the image of God.”

According to The Weekly Standard, Evers said the Democratic Party needs pro-life voters.

“We have a big tent here in Wisconsin. We have to in order to…

Memorial Service for Pastor Andrew Stoecklein Set for Saturday as Widow Shares More on Grief

(Photo: Facebook)

A memorial service to honor the life of the late Inland Hills Church lead pastor, Andrew Stoecklein, who died after attempting suicide at his church has been set for Saturday.

The Chino, California, church announced on Tuesday that a memorial service for the beloved pastor, who was 30, will be held at the Events Center of California Baptist University in Riverside and will start at 10 a.m.

“In stories, in video, in music, and in community, we celebrate everything we loved about Andrew as a pastor, a family member, and a friend,” the church said in a brief statement about the late pastor.

Stoecklein’s suicide, which came after a battle with depression and anxiety, has attracted international attention and sparked serious discussions about how mental health is treated in the church.

Tamrin Olden, crime prevention supervisor with the City of Chino Police Department, told The Christian Post that at about 11:08 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, they received a call from Inland Hills Church about an attempted suicide. When they arrived, they identified Pastor Stoecklein as the victim who would die hours later at a local hospital.

Nearly $300,000 has since been raised in a GoFundMe campaign to help the late pastor’s 29-year-old widow, Kayla, and their three young…

Bible reading on TV sparks call for end of religious public broadcasting

The verses from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians were broadcast on radio and Flemish TV station VRT from a Catholic mass in the town of Grimbergen.

A lay reader quoted Ephesians 5 22-33: “Women, be submissive to your husband as the husband to the Lord. For the man is the head of the woman as Christ is the head of the church.”

Sven Gatz, Flemish Minister for Culture, Youth, Media and Brussels, told newspaper Het Nieuwsblad: “The fact that they come from an old book is not an argument for letting them go to our people.

“This is not of this time, and that it is broadcast on the VRT for the whole of Flanders is already completely crazy.”

VRT has welcomed debates but in a statement pointed out that the verse that had sparked controversy had been taken out of context.

A spokesman for the Dutch Bible society told the Telegraph: “The contested statement is preceded by a very different sentence, ‘Accept each other’s authority out of respect for Christ’.

“This indicates that this is a very different matter than legitimisation of the oppression of women by men.”

Resisting Sexual Revolution Together May Be How God Unites Christians: Author

(Photo: Reuters/Brian Snyder)Valerie Marchesi, dressed as a package of birth control pills, waits for U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to be publicly endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund in Hooksett, New Hampshire, January 10, 2016.

A robust repudiation of the sexual revolution should unite Christians of every tradition, says author Jennifer Roback Morse.

And resisting this ongoing onslaught side by side just might be the very thing God does to heal the Church of the many divides that abound, she believes, because there is no choice but to stand and fight together given the present cultural landscape.

Morse, who is the founder and president of the Lake Charles, Louisiana-based Ruth Institute explained in a phone interview with The Christian Post last week that for far too long, believers in Jesus Christ have been playing footsie with the ideology of the sexual revolution. This deceptive, deadly creed and the accompanying movement is fundamentally opposed to our faith, she insists, and it has created millions upon millions of wounded people whose voices are seldom heard.

In her latest book, The Sexual State: How Elite Ideologies Are Destroying Lives and Why The Church Was Right All Along, which was released last month, Morse unpacks how the sexual revolution is an interlocking, three-pronged dogma — contraceptive ideology, divorce ideology, and gender ideology — that has ruined countless lives and has never been properly combated….

Pastor Faces Eviction for Hosting Bible Study at Apartment, Complaint Says

Pastor Faces Eviction for Hosting Bible Study at Apartment, Complaint Says

A retired pastor faces eviction from his apartment complex after hosting a nondenominational Bible study for residents, according to a religious liberty organization.

Ken Hauge, 86, and his wife moved into a Fredericksburg, Va., senior living community known as “Evergreens at Smith Run” in January 2017. Residents asked Hauge — a semi-retired Lutheran minister – to begin leading a nondenominational Bible study, and he agreed to do so.

According to First Liberty Institute, Hauge rented the Community Room at the apartment complex for the Bible study, but management insisted he call it a “book review” on notices and in the apartment’s calendar. First Liberty found that Management finally allowed it to be labeled a “Bible study” after being contacted by a friend of one of the attendees.

The study was held for several months until July 23, when religious activities were banned in the community room, First Liberty said. Further, on the same day, Hauge received a notice saying his lease would be terminated unless he “stopped leading the Bible study entirely, either in his private apartment or in the Community Room,” according to a letter of complaint from First Liberty to management.

First Liberty asserts, the actions by the apartment complex violate the Fair Housing Act.

“Evicting elderly residents from their home for holding a Bible…

Billy Graham 6 September 2018 – Born Again

Topic: Born Again [Billy Graham Daily Devotional 6 September 2018]

Clothe yourself with this new nature. — Ephesians 4:24 (TLB)

In Texas they tell a story about a man who used to hitch his horse every morning in front of the saloon. One morning the saloonkeeper came out and found that the horse was hitched in front of the Methodist church. He saw the man walking down the street and called out, “Say, why is your horse hitched in front of the Methodist church this morning?” The man turned around and said, “Well, last night I was converted in the revival meeting, and I’ve changed hitching posts.” That’s what it means to be born again. That’s what it means to be converted. It means that you changed hitching posts.

Prayer for the day: May I live in such a way that people will know that I am bound in the freedom of Your love.
