Topic: Be Faithful With A Little [Andrew Wommack 28 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Luke 19:12-13 “He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.”

Text: Luke 19:11-27

The main purpose of this parable is to show that there would be a long period when Jesus would go away before returning to fulfill the prophecy about a physical kingdom on earth.

The nobleman’s servants were called to give an account for what they had done with their lord’s money that was delivered unto them. The servants were commanded to “occupy till I come.” These servants represent the followers of Jesus. However, being a follower of Jesus is more than simply not rejecting Him. It is an active commitment to serve Him. One of the ten servants had served himself and not His master. He did nothing with what his lord had given him. This wicked servant was stripped of what he had and it was given to the servant who had used his lord’s money wisely.

This illustrates that the Lord expects us to grow. This is made very clear in the parables of the kingdom which Jesus taught. In nearly every parable, growth or increase is expected. This servant who did nothing with what his lord gave him represents a believer who never grows or brings increase to God’s kingdom.

What was it that this wicked servant didn’t have that caused his master to take back the money he had given him? It wasn’t the tangible money that he received. He had kept that laid up in a napkin and still possessed it. What he was missing and what the other servant had that caused the lord to give this pound to him was faithfulness. Those who are faithful with what God has given them will be given more, and those who are wasteful will have what God has given them taken away and given to another. Use wisely what God has given to you.

Billy Graham 28 August 2018 – Grace and Peace

Topic: Grace and Peace [Billy Graham Daily Devotional 28 August 2018]

Unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. — Ephesians 4:7

The Christian life is never spoken of in the Bible as a bed of roses. It is uphill, because society is coming one way and the Christian is going the opposite way. But Jesus said that in the midst of your problems, in the midst of your difficulties, He will be there to give you grace and peace. Underneath all the troubles, will be the “still waters” that the Great Shepherd can provide. Many people are trying to steady themselves by taking tranquilizers. Jesus is the greatest tranquilizer of all. He can straighten out your life and put you back on center. Let Him take full control. You’ll go on your way rejoicing, as did those in the New Testament who met Jesus.

Prayer for the day: I need Your calmness and strength, for there are many trials to face, Lord Jesus. By faith I reach out to You, and receive the gift of Your peace in my life.

DCLM Daily Manna 28 August 2018 – Escape From His Coming Wrath

Topic: Escape From His Coming Wrath [DCLM Daily Manna 28 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: Isaiah 26:12-21 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast” (Isaiah 26:20).

MESSAGE:

The entire world is presently passing through a period of pain, agony and anguish, and the Church of Christ is not left out. In fact, the Church suffers much both from the hands of Satan and his cohorts that are daily inflicting all sorts of wicked devices against her with the expectation of wanting her to surrender. This could be likened to a period of pain and anguish that a pregnant woman passes through before delivery. The closer that day, the greater her pains become. But there is joy and happiness after the delivery and the period of agony will be completely forgotten.

The Bible says there is no peace for the wicked. Judgment is coming upon the world and every wicked being will be thrown into the lake of fire. Before that time comes, God will unleash sorrows and pains upon the entire world. Nobody living at that period will be able to escape the wrath of the Almighty. However, God’s elects will be taken away so as not to partake in the suffering. But, provision will be made for the retreat and safety of the righteous during the storm.

The Lord is a Strong Tower in the time of trouble. The safety place is in Christ Jesus and His blood. He is a Stronghold for prisoners; the Hope, Peace and Safety in the midst of this present troublous world. Enter into His closet therefore, and be delivered from the tribulations which are slowly but assuredly gathering momentum.

Thought For The Day: Christ’s righteousness secures one from condemnation and wrath.

Seeds of Destiny 28 August 2018 – The Dangers of the Lifestyle of Pride and Arrogance

Topic: The Dangers of the Lifestyle of Pride and Arrogance [Seeds of Destiny 28 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Scripture: Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

Thought For The Day: Arriving at a place of self-satisfaction leads to stagnation in life.

Pride is the undoing of many great destinies. satan lost his glorious place in heaven by the lifestyle of pride and arrogance (Isaiah 14:12). Pride also destroyed the destiny of Queen Vashti (Esther 1:10-22). It was pride that drove King Nebuchadnezzar from being a king to becoming a beast that ate grass for seven years in the wild (Daniel 4:14-16).

Now, what does pride do to a person?
1. Pride makes a person become a god to himself
Pride makes one arrogant, peackockish and ostentatious; it makes a person behave as if he does not need God. Pride is the worship of self. Those who consider themselves beautiful worship their beauty, some of those who have certificate worship their certificate.

2. Pride makes a man’s life to revolve around himself
Just like Lucifer who said, ‘I will ascend, I will…’ (Isaiah 14:12-14), a proud fellow is full of I’s. That is what fills his vocabulary. A proud person would say, ‘I just bought this, I just moved in, I just did…’
When a man’s life revolves around himself, he becomes empty of people and when you are empty of people, you cannot make impact on earth.

3. Pride makes a person too arrogant to be instructed
A proud person is too arrogant to learn; and his arrogance gives rise to his ignorance and so, he has no future.

4. Pride makes one arrive at a place of self-satisfaction
Arriving at a place of self-satisfaction leads to stagnation in life; it makes one not to see the need for progress.

5. Pride blinds people to reality
Pride makes people live in the realm of fantasy and fallacy; so, calamity often becomes their portion. They do not see things as they are.

Beloved, I counsel you to shun the lifestyle of pride and arrogance.

Remember this: Arriving at a place of self-satisfaction leads to stagnation in life.

Assignments:
1. Avoid the lifestyle of pride and arrogance.
3. Always be ready to learn in order to be great in life.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask that You deliver me from the lifestyle of pride and arrogance. Help me not to miss my place in destiny due to pride, O Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Why I Am Retiring from LifeWay

Tonight, during the regularly scheduled meeting of the LifeWay board, I announced my retirement as president and CEO. I will step down when the new CEO is named, or in one year, whichever comes first.

I made this decision with the firm conviction that it was time for my departure. But I also made the decision with a plethora of mixed emotions. In fact, when I told my executive leadership team about my decision, I cried. A wave of emotions hit me unexpectedly, and I surprised myself with my tears.

You see, I really love LifeWay and the people who serve here. They are absolutely incredible men and women who serve the Lord with joy and hard work. My thirteen years at LifeWay have been blessed for many reasons, not the least of which are the 5,000+ employees who work here.

But I want to share with candor and honesty why I made this decision. I value transparency. I have tried to live and lead with transparency myself.

  • LifeWay is poised for a great future with a new leader. The past thirteen years have been some of the most blessed years of my life. I am tempted to share many of the great works God and the employees have done in that time, but it would be an act of hubris on my part. To be certain, LifeWay will have its challenges. LifeWay is a ministry funded by a business model. It does not receive any outside funds. It has to compete with the behemoths like Amazon and Walmart. The next president will lead an organization poised for a great future, but it will be a future with challenges. Such is…

War Hero and Senator John McCain Passes Away at 81

War Hero and Senator John McCain Passes Away at 81

Saturday evening, only one day after announcing his decision to discontinue medical treatment, war hero and senator John McCain succumbed to his illness. McCain, 81, had been publicly battling an aggressive brain cancer for the past year.

The senator’s wife, Cindy McCain took to twitter on Saturday writing, “My heart is broken. I am so lucky to have lived the adventure of loving this incredible man for 38 years. He passed the way he lived, on his own terms, surrounded by the people he loved, in the the place he loved best.”

McCain’s daughter Meghan McCain posted a heart felt letter to her father on twitter saying, “My father, United States Senator John Sidney McCain III, departed this life today. I was with my father at his end, as he was with me at my beginning.”

She continued, “In the thirty-three years we shared together, he raised me, taught me, corrected me, comforted me, encouraged me, and supported me in all things. He loved me, and I loved him.”

On Friday the family issued a statement on Twitter saying, “Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news our family already knew: he had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious. In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict. With his usual strength of will, he…

A Nashville, Tennessee area church has hosted a community-wide block party centered on the themes of the classic kids television series “Mister Roger’s Neighborhood.”

City Road Chapel United Methodist Church of Madison hosted the first-ever Beautiful Day Neighborhood Festival on Sunday, with hundreds attending the 3-hour event.

The Reverend Jay Voorhees, lead pastor of City Road Chapel UMC, told The Christian Post Monday that the festival came in response to a Mister Rogers-themed sermon series he oversaw titled “It’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: Being a Good Neighbor in a Divided World.”

“Our church takes seriously Christ’s call to love our neighbors, but we recognize that in our current climate neighborliness is a lost art,” explained Voorhees.

People Raised by Religious Hypocrites More Likely to Become Atheists at Younger Age

(PHOTO: UNSPLASH/DAKOTACORBIN)

A recent study has found that children of parents who less consistently model the tenets of their faith are more likely to become an atheist at a younger age.

The study, published by the journal Religion Brain & Behavior, featured data from surveys of thousands of atheists who were asked about the age they no longer believed in God or Gods.

The respondents were also asked about the “credibility-enhancing displays” (CRED) of their parents as well as other factors that might have played a role in their decisions to abandon theism.

According to PsyPost.org, the researchers found that when parents engaged in more credibility-enhancing displays of their faith — such as treating other people with kindness in accordance with a faith in Christ or feeding the homeless — their children became atheists at a higher age than parents who did provide provide as many credibility-enhancing displays to their children.

As past research has suggested that exposure to credibility-enhancing displays is an “important variable” for predicting who does and does not become a religious believer, the researchers sought to make more clear if credibility-enhancing displays impact when a person rejects religious beliefs they held during childhood.

Former Vatican Ambassador Claims the Pope Aided in McCarrick Cover-Up

Former Vatican Ambassador Claims the Pope Aided in McCarrick Cover-Up

Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, a former Vatican ambassador to the U.S., shared on Sunday that he told Pope Francis about accusations of sexual abuse made against a prominent priest in 2013. Vigano reported that despite being told about the accusations, Francis took no action. The Archbishop is now urging Francis to step down.

In a statement released by Vigano on Sunday he said, “In this extremely dramatic moment for the universal Church, he [Pope Francis] must acknowledge his mistakes and, in keeping with the proclaimed principle of zero tolerance, Pope Francis must be the first to set a good example to Cardinals and Bishops who covered up McCarrick’s abuses and resign along with all of them.”

CBS News spoke with Vigano who said, he decided to speak out now “to combat the grave situation in the church, to protect the church and also to stop future abuse.”

CBS News reports that Vigano told the producer Anna Matranga that he had no agenda in releasing this statement and that he was simply stating facts.

The Archbishop recalled a conversation he had with Francis in June 2013, shortly after Francis became pope. The pair talked about Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, who is the former archbishop of Washington, D.C. McCarrick resigned last month after claims came out that he sexually abused seminary students and an altar boy.

In his statement Vigano states that he told…
