Open Heavens 27 August 2018 – Eating Your Parent’s Sour Grapes?

Open Heavens 27 August 2018 Monday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – Eating Your Parent’s Sour Grapes?

Topic: Eating Your Parent’s Sour Grapes?

Memorise: “The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.”- Ezekiel 18:20

Read: Jeremiah 31:29:33 (KJV)

29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.

30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.

31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:

33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 73-77, Matthew 26:26-46

Open Heavens 27 August 2018 Monday MESSAGE:

One of the blessings of the cross of Jesus Christ is the removal of generational curses that have been the bane of mankind since the great fall of Adam and Eve. The Holy Spirit reveals this to us in Colossians 2:14, saying:

“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;”

The work Jesus did on the cross of Calvary brought about the fulfilment of the prophecies that came through Ezekiel and Jeremiah in today’s memory verse and Bible reading. These prophecies foretold the nature and character of the New Covenant under which we are now operating. I encourage you to take out time to read these prophesies in full, so that you will have a full understanding of your place in the New Testament under the Blood of Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit through Prophet Jeremiah prophesied that a time would come when everyone living under a new covenant would be responsible for their own actions and inactions. The good news is that we live in that time. Through the new covenant in the Blood of Jesus, we are empowered to individually live our lives to the glory of God and be accountable for the way we live our lives. Speaking on this new covenant in Hebrew 8:10, the Holy Spirit says:

“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:”

Through this verse of Scripture, we understand that it is the Almighty God who helps us keep His new covenant through the Holy Spirit. This is an awesome provision which you must key into. With God’s help, we are also able to escape the impact of divine judgement invoked by parental sins. Nevertheless, we will not escape the consequences of our own sins if we continue in them. The new covenant however opens the door of opportunity for God to wipe away and forget our sins as we confess and forsake them. Hebrews 8:12 says:

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”

Even if some people are still experiencing the destructive power of generational curses, its evil effects can be rendered powerless over you by the new covenant. The Blood of the new covenant makes all the difference. Are you a partaker of the new covenant?

Action Point: Open Heavens 27 August 2018 Monday

Confess and believe that you are now under the new covenant in the Blood of Jesus, for which reason no ancestral covenant can work against you or hold you bound.

‘This man gave so much for our nation’, Franklin Graham leads tributes to Senator John McCain

Mr McCain’s office said he died on Saturday following his battle with brain cancer.

His family had previously said he had ended medical treatment for the condition, revealing that “the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict”.

Tributes have poured in from across the world,

Evangelist Franklin Graham said on Twitter: “Our deepest sympathy and prayers for the family of @SenJohnMcCain. This man gave so much for our nation and will be greatly missed.”

President Donald Trump, who once criticised Mr McCain for being taken prisoner during the Vietnam War, said his “deepest sympathies and respect” went out to Mr McCain’s family.

Mr McCain’s wife Cindy said she was heartbroken by the death of an “incredible man”.

In a post on Twitter, she said: “My heart is broken. I am so lucky to have lived the adventure of loving this incredible man for 38 years. He passed the way he lived, on his own terms, surrounded by the people he loved, in the the place he loved best.”

John McCain has been described as a man with a quiet faith.

In an interview with megachurch pastor Rick Warren he was asked what it meant to be a Christian. He said: “It means I’m saved and forgiven.”

McCain also revealed in his memoirs how prayer sustained him while he was a prisoner of war.

History and Architecture, Not Wings Await in Buffalo

(PHOTO: DENNIS LENNOX)Hotel Henry is housed in a former mental asylum designed by famed architect Henry Hobson Richardson.

It’s okay to admit that the first thing you associate with Buffalo are its namesake chicken wings. Fairly or not, Buffalo wings have become synonymous with this Rust Belt city in western New York state.

Yet, Buffalo has more to offer visitors on a citycation than its contribution to bar food fayre.

I was pleasantly surprised during my visit a couple of weeks ago, not least because there is a tremendous amount of history and architecture to discover, including several examples of Richardsonian Romanesque.

The style, inspired by the work of Henry Hobson Richardson, was fashionable in the late 19th century. Surviving examples are often churches (almost always Protestant), train depots and city halls.

Considered one of the finest all-time American architects, Richardson’s adaptions of the broader Romanesque Revival style featured, among other things, bold arches at central doorways.

His work is best seen at Hotel Henry Urban Resort Conference Center, a Richardson masterpiece that was originally a mental asylum and is today located within the State University of New York at Buffalo campus. The hotel, open since 2017, is a good example of historic preservation, though many outer buildings are still empty and await redevelopment.

Throughout Buffalo are other notable examples of Romanesque Revival buildings that compliment Richardson’s work. Among them are First Presbyterian Church — the soaring tower is truly…

Over 750 Faith Groups, Leaders Say Trump Must Allow More Refugees in the US

(PHOTO: REUTERS/ALKIS KONSTANTINIDIS)Refugees wait to be transferred to the Moria registration center after arriving at the port of Mytilene on the Greek island of Lesbos, following a rescue operation by the Greek Coast Guard at open sea, on March 22, 2016.

An interfaith coalition of more than 750 religious groups and leaders have demanded that the Trump administration allow for more refugees to settle in the United States.

The Trump administration has garnered controversy for its reduction in the number of refugees being allowed to resettle in the United States.

In a letter addressed to President Donald Trump and officially dated Aug. 21, the religious groups declared that “people of faith will not stand by idly as the United States turns its back on these individuals.”

“Refugee resettlement is a critical tool our nation can use to relieve human suffering, and we urge the administration to fully utilize it,” stated the letter.

“We pray that in your process of discernment, compassion for the plight of refugees will touch your hearts. We urge you to be bold in choosing moral, just policies that provide refuge for vulnerable individuals seeking protection.”

Apology after worshippers filmed entering church during dispute

According to the Telegraph, Jeremy Bedford and Sam Spreadbury were unhappy at proposed building works to St Peter and St Paul in Bassingbourn and wanted to prove the plans were excessive considering the number of worshippers.

The 14th century church is going through an £800,000 revamp which includes removing pews, improving kitchen and installing meeting rooms and a creche.

The vicar had claimed the church has a regular congrehation but the pair claimed it was much lower.

A diocesoson court has ruled there is a clear and convincing justification for carrying out the work.

They’ve now said sorry for any distress caused and have destroyed the tapes.

Pray for Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church

Location: Dayton, Ohio

Pastor: Pastor Gerard Seldon

Weekly Worship: 11:00 AM, Eastern

Fast Facts: Eleven years ago when Pastor Seldon was called as pastor, the church was more than $200,000 in debt and had fewer than 15 members. Two years ago the debt was completely paid off without any loan by God’s grace and through a loving committed, determined membership. Ministries at the church include Loving Our Unborn Neighbor which hosts baby showers for young women who have courageously decided not to abort their children. Also, the church is located across the street from an apartment complex. Four times a year, the church serves its neighbors a lunch, passes out free CSB Bibles from its local LifeWay, and prays for the people of the apartment complex. The church’s school ministry sends members into elementary schools to assist children daily with reading comprehension as well.

Please pray for this Sunday, August 26th, as they hold their inaugural Invite Your One event. The mayor of Dayton Ohio has committed to attending along with a host of others. For months they have been preparing for this day through our prayer ministry, hospitality ministry, sermons, and meetings. Please keep this day and also the follow up in deep prayer that souls may be won to the Lord.

“Pray for . . .” is the Sunday blog series at ThomRainer.com. We encourage you to pray for these churches noted every Sunday. Please feel free to comment that you are praying as well.

If you would like to have your church featured in…

Pope begs god’s forgiveness for ‘scandal and betrayal felt by so many’

On the second day of his historic Irish visit, Francis said the crimes committed by members of the church had left an “open wound”.

At an address at the holy shrine of Knock, in Co Mayo, the pontiff said no-one could fail to be moved by stories of young abuse victims who were “robbed of their innocence” and left with “painful memories”.

Thousands of pilgrims who braved the rain to see the Pope at a site revered by Irish Catholics applauded as he urged decisive steps to bring truth to the victims.

“None of us can fail to be moved by the stories of young people who suffered abuse, were robbed of their innocence and left scarred, distanced from mothers, abandoned, and left with painful memories,” he said.

“This open wound challenges us to be firm and decisive in the pursuit of truth and justice.

“I beg the Lord’s forgiveness for these sins and for the scandal and betrayal felt by so many others in God’s family.

The engagement at Knock came ahead of a huge outdoor Mass in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, for which half a million people have tickets.

The first day of the papal visit on Saturday was dominated by the bitter legacy of historical scandals linked to church abuse and mistreatment.

On Saturday evening, the Pope met a number of victims of criminality and cruelty inflicted by church members.

Creationists more likely to believe in conspiracy theories

A new study by the University of Fribourg found a the belief that God created the Earth less than ten thousand years ago was linked to beliefs in things like faked moon landings.

The team at the University conducted a number of different experiments through questionnaires with over 800 people.

The link between the two was attributed to teleological thinking where a person doesn’t question certain facts.

Researcher Sebastian Dieguez said: “We find a previously unnoticed common thread between believing in creationism and believing in conspiracy theories.

“Although very different at first glance, both these belief systems are associated with a single and powerful cognitive bias named teleological thinking, which entails the perception of final causes and overriding purpose in naturally occurring events and entities.”

Briton caught with drugs in children’s Bible

Sixty one year old Terence Smith along with another man were carrying 10 kilograms of the drug in a number of books when they were stopped by police.

The men have pleaded not guilty but could face up to eight years in prison.

Reports suggest they were caught in a scam in which they thought they had won the lottery.

In comments in the Mail of Sunday, Colonel Alfredo Velarde, chief investigations officer of the Peruvian Anti-Drug Police in Lima, said: “Drug gangs are now using elderly people and fooling them into carrying loads of cocaine. When they are caught they are very surprised and we can tell they are very confused about what they are carrying.

“We have reasons to believe the men didn’t know they were really carrying drugs. Both of them will come out of this as elderly men because they both face a maximum of eight years behind bars.”

The Foreign Office is said to be in contact with the men.
