How a Little Boy’s Brain Tumor Miracle Transformed Ben Carson’s View of God

(Photo: David Whitlow)Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson speaks at the Carolina Values Summit in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Feb. 11, 2016.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson was once one of the world’s most famous neurosurgeons, saving the lives of children with complex and deadly health conditions. With faith as his guide, the celebrated doctor took on procedures that had never been successfully performed — and helped pave new ground in neuroscience.

In a recent episode of PureFlix.com’s “Pure Talk,” Carson shared the stunning ways in which God surprised him early on in his career.

“I discovered early on in my neurosurgeon career that God was a neurosurgeon,” Carson said, going on to explain the miraculous case surrounding a little boy who had an inoperable brain stem tumor.

Watch Carson explain the miracle that transformed his views on God:

Carson said that the child’s parents had “great faith” that God had brought them to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore for a cure, but Carson had little confidence he could help.

“The parents had great faith and they said, ‘The Lord sent us here,’ ” he said. “I said, ‘There’s nothing I can do, there’s nothing anybody can do about this.'”

But Carson ended up operating anyway, removing as much of the tumor as he could. He later went to the parents and explained that he couldn’t remove the entire mass.

The parents responded by again holding out hope, believing that God would heal their son. Their unshakable faith…

Hindu Extremists in India Create Nightmare for Pastor’s Family

Hindu Extremists in India Create Nightmare for Pastor’s Family

NEW DELHIAugust 20, 2018 (Morning Star News) – When a Hindu in northern India got rid of the idols in his house after several visits to a church, Hindu nationalists found the perfect opportunity to make life a nightmare for a pastor’s family, sources said.

Since the Hindu nationalists accused pastor Avianshu Kalra of desecration of Hindu idols and forcible conversion in Ambala, Haryana state, he and his family have had to leave their home, his wife has suffered pregnancy complications, and his father has been suspended from his work as a journalist after being hit with a defamation suit.

The 32-year-old Assemblies of God pastor of Karuna House of Prayer had to keep his 4-year-old son out of preschool for a week after a Hindu extremist-led mob of 200 people on July 11 blocked the entry and exit to his home and church compound and chanted threats.

“My mother was all alone and was terrified,” Pastor Kalra said, noting that he and his wife had gone to pick up their son from school, and his father was away at work. “The mob was shouting, ‘Come out, we will not spare you, we will burn you.’”

The mob accused him of forcibly converting a Hindu family and destroying their Hindu deities and images of Sikh gurus. Pastor Kalra said he was thankful to God that he did not return home while the mob was still there or they would have attacked him, his…

Pope’s child abuse intervention too little too late

Pope Francis said the church had delayed action and urged a culture of care at present and in the future as he published a strongly-worded letter on the subject.

He arrives in Ireland this weekend, a country where the Catholic church has been rocked by a series of sex abuse scandals involving members of religious orders.

Margaret McGuckin, leader of SAVIA (Survivors & Victims of Institutional Abuse), a charity set up to give a voice to victims of historic abuse in Northern Ireland, said: “It is a last-ditch attempt to see what he can do.

“It is too little too late, nothing will change.”

A Pennsylvania grand jury report published recently in the US found more than 300 priests abused more than 1,000 children.

The Pope expressed “shame and repentance”.

He added: “We acknowledge as an ecclesial community that we were not where we should have been, that we did not act in a timely manner, realising the magnitude and the gravity of the damage done to so many lives.

“We showed no care for the little ones; we abandoned them.”

The Pope is due to spend two days visiting Dublin and the Knock shrine in the West of Ireland this weekend.

He will meet Ireland’s President Michael D Higgins and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, address a session of the World Meeting of Families and celebrate mass for half a million people at Phoenix Park.

Referring to the US abuse report, the pontiff noted that at…

Turkey Economy ‘Tanking’ amid Trump Sanctions over Jailed U.S. Pastor Andrew Brunson

Turkey Economy ‘Tanking’ amid Trump Sanctions over Jailed U.S. Pastor Andrew Brunson

Shots were fired at the U.S. embassy in Turkey Monday amid escalating tensions between the two countries over an American pastor.

The six shots from an unidentified car hit a window but did not injure anyone, The Washington Post reported.

American pastor Andrew Brunson was arrested in 2016 on charges that he supported an attempted coup against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Brunson and the Trump administration say the charges are baseless.

Brunson, under house arrest, leads a Protestant congregation in the predominantly Islamic nation.

After Trump imposed sanctions on Turkey earlier this month, prices on basic goods skyrocketed, NBC’s Richard Engel reported. Eggs cost 20 percent more. Bottled water has doubled in price. The local economy is “tanking,” Engel said.

“Customers aren’t coming,” a shop owner told Engel.

It is the country’s worst economic crisis in 20 years.

But Turkey isn’t backing down, and Erdogan has called for a boycott of U.S. products. Some residents smashed iPhones as a show of protest.

Trump is threatening more sanctions if Brunson isn’t released.

“He’s a wonderful man, Pastor Brunson,” Trump told reporters Friday. “They made up this phony charge. We are not going to take it sitting down. They can’t take our people.”

Expand | Collapse

The New York Times best-selling Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus has been expanded to include reflections from the late author’s wife, Michelle Qureshi.

In one reflection, Qureshi recalls the day she heard God tell her that she will marry Nabeel Qureshi.

“I had been dating Nabeel Qureshi long distance for a mere four months at the time. But on that day God spoke clearly to me, making known His intentions regarding our relationship. … Eight months later, we were engaged,” she says.

“On September 16, 2017, after nine years of marriage, Nabeel was welcomed home to Heaven for eternity. God knew full well from the beginning what He asked of me.”

Author Nabeel Qureshi is a well-known apologist whose dramatic journey from Islam to Christianity is documented in his book, Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus.

He died last September at the age of 34 after a battle with stomach cancer.

He left behind his wife, Michelle, and daughter, Ayah.

Six-Year-Old Orders Almost $400 Worth of Toys

A note from Jim:

Blake Atwood is an editor, ghostwriter, and wordsmith who helps writers tell better stories, choose the right path to publication, and know how to best market their words. He has a degree in English from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

He tells me that he was once featured in the Wall Street Journal because he used the word albatross in a blog post. (I’m not sure how that happened . . .) He is a gifted editor and communicator; I am sure you’ll appreciate his article today.

Would you shop at Walmart in a “virtual showroom”?

The company recently applied for intellectual property patents that would allow VR headset owners to browse their store shelves via virtual reality. The experience may still be years away, but Walmart is working on this VR experience to woo consumers away from their chief rival, Amazon.

However, as Katelyn Lunt has proven, Amazon has achieved their preferred consumer status by making the shopping experience so simple a six-year-old can order almost $400 worth of toys from her mom’s account.

Of course, Katelyn wasn’t supposed to order that much.

She just wanted to check her mom’s computer for the delivery date of a Barbie her mom had ordered as a reward for doing chores. But how could Katelyn refuse the allure of Amazon presenting dozens of other Barbie-themed items to her?

A few clicks later–including checking the box for two-day shipping–Katelyn had ordered herself a rather large collection of Barbies. The photos accompanying the article, with Katelyn grinning in front of a tower of delivered boxes, speak volumes about her feelings on the outcome.

What really matters

Closer to home, I recently spent time with my Fortnite-playing eleven-year-old nephew. We discussed his interests, which, unsurprising to most any parent with a preteen boy, centered on gaming.

I also spoke with my twin teenage nieces, casually asking them about the rules their parents had set for texting….

Christians urged to pray for containment of Ebola in DRC

Medair UK warned “containment is vital” to stop Ebola spreading from the DR Congo to neighbouring countries Uganda and Rwanda.

Neil Casey, a Christian from the charity told Premier: “First and foremost we want to pray that this Ebola outbreak is contained.

“We all have memories of the Ebola outbreak across Sierra Leone and Guinee and the neighbouring countries and we know the devastation that that caused.”

The DR Congo’s government has confirmed the outbreak has spread into a neighbouring province, as health workers began using an experimental treatment for the disease.

The health ministry is hoping the mAb114 therapy, isolated from an Ebola survivor from 1995, will be effective in a new outbreak which has killed 49 people since the start of the month.

The director-general of the World Health Organisation, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said five patients have been given the treatment.

Casey told Premier how the disease may be spreading: “There’s a lot of forest areas and the theory goes that people are exposed to infected meat – they eat infected meat and that then gives that cross infection from that meat to humans.”

The outbreak spread from North Kivu province into neighbouring Ituri province in the DR Congo’s turbulent north-east, when a man who had been treated for heart problems in Mangina, where the outbreak was declared August 1, returned home, the health…

Five Ways Your Church Can Have a Major Impact as the New School Year Begins

I have always been weird.

While most of my childhood peers lamented the beginning of a new school year, I looked forward to it with enthusiasm. I loved the opportunity to learn and discover new vistas.

As a pastor, I saw the beginning of a school year as an opportunity to try new approaches and to make a statement about the priorities of our congregation. Over the past three decades, I have been blessed to hear from other church leaders on a multitude of topics. Let me share with you what I have heard about great success stories of churches as a new school year approached. They are basic but profound.

  1. Recommit to becoming a welcoming church. September could be the month where you see a greater regular flow of guests. Families often move in the summer, so their children can start in a new school at the beginning of the school year. Take a look at two of my books to help guide you in this recommitment. Becoming a Welcoming Church is pretty much a complete guide for your church leaders and members. We Want You Here is a unique book meant specifically for the guest as a gift. Both books are only $5 when purchased in a case of 20 books. Commercial over.
  2. Dedicate a part of a worship service to praying for students and teachers. We recently did that at our church. And we followed the service by writing brief thank you letters to the teachers at one of the schools near us. It had a huge impact on both the teachers and on our members.
  3. Adopt a school. Request a meeting with a local school principal. Ask…

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 20 August 2018

TOPIC: The Snare of Riches (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Monday, 20 August 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Timothy 6:9-11

MEMORY VERSE: “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.”1 Timothy 6:17

The MESSAGE:

Money is good, and the Bible confirms that money answereth all things (Ecclesiastes 10:19). It is not a sin to be rich. A godly desire to be rich is a good desire for as long as the intention is to use it to support the work of God and the needy. However, there is a pursuit of wealth that can lead to sin. This is when a person desires to have more and more material things in whatever way in order to be happy and feel successful. Such riches are a trap, and they lead to bondage, not freedom. Instead of giving satisfaction, such riches create additional lusts, which tend to greed. Instead of providing help and health, excess of material things hurt, wounds and plunges men into ruin and destruction. It is like a man drowning, who puts his trust in his wealth and continues to sail along but suddenly, the storm came and he sank. The Bible warns that he who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver, nor he who loves abundance, with increase. The insatiable love of money is the foundation of all evil and those who covet after it, eventually err from the faith, piercing themselves through with many sorrows. It is a dangerous thing to use religion as a cover-up for acquiring wealth. God’s labourer is certainly worthy of his hire (1 Timothy 5:17-18), but his motive for labouring must not be money. That would make him a hireling and not a true shepherd (John 10:11-14). We should not ask how much will I get but rather how much can I give. Only sacrificial attitude makes our services acceptable before God. The Bible reckons that when goods increase, it is natural that those who will eat it should also increase. In this way, the owner is blessed and becomes a blessing like Abraham. He will not please God if he hoards the wealth and heaps it for his family only. The rich should neither be high-minded nor trust in their riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. They should do well and be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate their riches to the poor and in support of the works of God so that they can have riches in heaven.

Riches become a snare when the owner loses sleep over meditation on any part of his estates. It becomes a snare when the owner continually meditates over his wealth and how to increase it, rather than meditate on the word of God and how to have a closer relationship with God. It becomes a snare when the owner uses the riches to acquire strange women like Solomon and sponsor activities that will not aid the spread of the gospel. It becomes a snare when the owner loves riches more than God and he is unwilling to surrender all to Jesus. It becomes a snare when the owner prefers to lose eternal life rather than use his riches to help the poor and evangelical needs like the rich young ruler (Mark 10:22). Beloved, deliver yourself from these snares and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness. May the wisdom of God dwell in you richly, in Jesus’ name.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
THERE IS A PURSUIT OF WEALTH THAT CAN LEAD TO SIN.

PROPHETIC WORD:
You are delivered from the snare of riches as you follow after righteousness.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Blood of Jesus, flush out unexplainable lust for money from my life, in the name of Jesus.
2. Captive power of riches over my life, loose your hold and perish, in the name of Jesus.
3. Insensitivity to the purpose of divine blessings in my life, depart by fire, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Unconscious bad attitude to money, be exposed and die, in the name of Jesus.
5. Holy Spirit, empower me to render selfless help to the poor and needy, in the name of Jesus.
6. I shall do good and be rich in good works, in the name of Jesus.
7. I surrender my wealth to Jesus. Use it for Your glory, O Lord, in the name of Jesus.
