Billy Graham 20th August 2018 – Three Kinds of Pleasure

Topic: Three Kinds of Pleasure [Billy Graham Daily Devotional 20 August 2018]

The disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost. — Acts 13:52

The Bible speaks of three kinds of pleasure. There is lustful pleasure, the lust of the flesh, and Scripture says it is sinful and wrong. There is legitimate pleasure, which is not wrong, but we are not to become so preoccupied with its activities that it takes the place of God. Then there is a third kind of pleasure, lasting pleasure. Do you have that kind? It does not depend on circumstances or feelings. It is the pleasure that runs deep and comes from the Spirit of God.

Prayer for the day: Almighty God, may my pleasure always come from being filled with the joy of Your Holy Spirit.

Israeli Questioning of US Jews at Border Reveals Deep Rift – Urban Christian News

When Simone Zimmerman arrived at the check-in window at the Israeli border with Egypt, it didn’t take long for the young activist to run into trouble.

Zimmerman, a Jewish American living in Israel, quickly became a person of interest after telling the border agent that she worked for an Israeli advocacy group that assists Palestinians. She says that led to a series of “super-charged” questions about her professional activities and political views.

The agent wanted to know why she worked with Palestinians, not Jews, and asked for the names of Palestinian contacts in the West Bank. Agents unlocked her phone, asked her opinion of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and threatened to deport her if she lied. After four hours, Zimmerman, who had taken a brief vacation in Egypt, was allowed to return to Israel.

Why Does God Gives Humans, but Not Fallen Angels, a Chance at Redemption?

(Screenshot: Facebook/Bible Answer Man)“Bible Answer Man” Hank Hanegraaff in a podcast on March 5, 2018.

Hank Hanegraaff, the man behind the Bible Answer Man radio program, has admitted that he has no answer to the mystery why God chose to love humans so much.

Hanegraaff, an Eastern Orthodox Christian author who heads the Christian Research Institute, admitted to a listener in a clip posted on Facebook on Thursday that it is beyond his comprehension why God, in all His power and perfection, has chosen to share His love with people.

The question in full asked about why humans are given so many chances at redemption, while fallen angels are not treated with the same redemptive quality in the Bible.

“Angels, they had requisite knowledge, they were in the presence of God. They had the opportunity to serve him, but also they had the opportunity to serve themselves. They were created as volitional beings,” Hanegraaff began in his explanation.

“And this is the essence of love. God creates those who have volition, and thus love becomes something meaningful. Whereas if they didn’t have a choice, love would not be meaningful. God did not create angels, nor did he create people in such a way that they had to choose Him. They could choose against Him, and that is what happened with…

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 19 August 2018

TOPIC: Godliness with Contentment (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Sunday, 19 August 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Timothy 6:5-8

MEMORY VERSE: “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” – Philippians 4:11

The MESSAGE:

It appears the church has been terribly swamped by the society. Rather than teach and preach impactful messages that will transform the society, the church has become as corrupt as the society itself, if not worse. The church is filled with false teachers and preachers, who constantly rob the people of truth. These false teachers profess the Christian faith as a way of getting financial gain. Unlike these false teachers, Paul was always careful not to use his calling and ministry as a means of making money. In fact, he even refused support from the Corinthian church so that no one could accuse him of greed (1 Corinthians 9:8-19). He never used his preaching as a cloak for covetousness (1 Thessalonians 2:5). What a tragedy it is today to see religious racketeers who prey on gullible people, promising them help while taking away their money. What the greedy folks in the church fail to realise is that wealth does not bring contentment. Contentment is an inner sufficiency that keeps us at peace in spite of outward circumstances. True contentment comes from godliness in the heart, not wealth in the hand. A person who depends on material things for peace and assurance will never be satisfied, for material things have a way of losing their appeal. It is the wealthy people, not the poor people, who go to psychiatrists and who are more apt to try to commit suicide.

Wealth is not everlasting since we brought nothing into this world, we cannot carry anything out of it. The craze for wealth, acquisition and accumulation of wealth for generations yet unborn is absolute madness. The preacher called it vanity. Many have lost their sense of decency to the pursuit of riches. Many have forsaken the fear of God for the love of money, and they do anything to get money. Those who are unable to make merchandise of the gospel, temper with church money left in their care. The pursuit of money today is done with total loss of decency, lack of fear of God and placement of zero value on integrity.

Those who look for money at all costs are never contented with whatever they get. They keep on pursuing money endlessly without regard to whose interest is being negatively affected. They may be rich in monetary terms but not rich in God. On the contrary, those presumed poor may not have all the money required to make ends meet, but because they are rich in God, they enjoy much contentment and obviously a better life. They have peace in their souls, peace with men, and peace with God. They do not sacrifice eternal life for earthly pursuits and whatever they get in this world, they express their gratitude to God wholeheartedly. Godliness with contentment is indeed great gain. You will enjoy a better life now and in eternity if only you can be contented with whatever you are able to get righteously. Pursue contentment from today and the Lord shall strengthen you, in Jesus’ name.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
TRUE CONTENTMENT COMES FROM GODLINESS IN THE HEART, NOT WEALTH IN THE HAND.

PROPHETIC WORD:
As you pursue contentment from today, the Lord will strengthen you.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Spirit of contentment, enter my life now, in the name of Jesus.
2. Holy Spirit, empower me to live above board, in the name of Jesus.
3. Covetousness and greed, get out of my life by fire, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Holy Spirit, revive my spiritual life, in the name of Jesus.
5. I shall not be a spiritual cheat in the house of God, in the name of Jesus.
6. Wolves in the ministry, be flushed out by fire, in the name of Jesus.
7. False teachings directed at exploiting the children of God, expire by fire, in the name of Jesus.

How Pastor Born With Hearing Loss Is Making a Difference in Michigan

(Photo: Lakepointe Church)Pastor Scott Blanchard speaks during a service at Lakepointe Church in Macomb, Michigan in November 2017.

Michigan pastor Scott Blanchard is not an ordinary church leader.

Although he had a strong desire as a kid to become a minister after accepting Christ at the age of 7, the obstacles he faced along the way were unlike those faced by the average pastor.

Sharing his dream with his friends in school, they doubted his abilities to be able to proclaim the Gospel to an audience. Blanchard was born with 80 percent hearing loss and speaks with a noticeable speech impediment.

Although his handicap gave him low self-esteem and made him lack confidence as a kid, Blanchard learned to face his obstacles and doubts head-on as he climbed his way to becoming a successful Detroit-area church plant leader.

Since its launch in 2010, the Blanchard-founded Lakepointe Church in Macomb has baptized over 150 people. In addition, it has launched a food pantry that provides a week’s worth of groceries to about 30 to 45 local struggling families each month.

But after eight years of holding services in a local high school, Blanchard’s Lakepointe Church congregation is now searching for a permanent home — one to call its own — and has raised upwards of $450,000 toward…

Franklin Graham says Catholic church must deal ‘decisively and openly’ with abuse

The American evangelist wrote on facebook: “Everyone has been shocked and saddened by the disclosures that have surfaced about “predator priests” in the Roman Catholic Church. The magnitude of the abuse over the years is nearly incomprehensible—what happened to these children should grieve us all.”

On Tuesday, the 2018 Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report was released and named over 300 priests who were credibly accused of sexually abusing more than 1,000 children over the course of 70 years across six Pennsylvania dioceses.

It documented how paedophile priests were often protected by church hierarchy or moved to other postings without the new location being told of the priests’ sexual predatory history.

Jeff Anderson represented the survivors of abuse and sums-up the report here:

The Vatican called the abuse described “criminal and morally reprehensible”.

Evangelist Franklin Graham wrote a status on facebook and in several tweets about the matter, criticising the Catholic Church for a large-scale cover up:

“They have been covering it up for years, which allowed the abuse to perpetuate and grow in the darkness. Even one child is too many to have experienced this horror, and there are thousands.”

He also addressed the theological question of their salvation, saying that no one is righteous but after faith in Jesus, repentance is necessary.

“Some people are…

Law banning conversion comes into effect in Nepal

The law was passed a year ago but at the time, human rights concerns were voiced about the law limiting freedom of expression and the potential for it to be abused to excuse violence against religious minorities.

Clause 158 of section 9 of the Bill, which criminalises the ‘hurting of religious sentiment’, is similar to the blasphemy laws in Pakistan, which make it a criminal offence to insult another’s religion.

There are people who seem to favour the ‘No Conversion’ plans though, with social media pages set up to document street evangelism which is intrusive.

CBN reported last month that bad treatment of Christians had intensified in the run-up to the law coming into effect, with a couple deported and accused of evangelism and pastors receiving death threats.

Nepal is secular legally but mostly Hindu in population.

7 Things You Should Know About ‘An Interview With God’

7 Things You Should Know About ‘An Interview With God’

Paul Asher is a talented reporter who is having a crisis of faith. He once believed in God, but a visit to war-torn Afghanistan changed all that. He now questions everything he was taught about religion.

He also has a crumbling marriage. And he’s battling emotions and thoughts from seeing soldiers die.

What will it take to rescue him? Perhaps an interview with the Almighty would help.

That’s exactly what Paul gets: three sit-down interviews with God, 30 minutes apiece. Will it help?

An Interview With God(unrated) debuts in theaters for three nights only: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 20-22).

Here are seven things you need to know:

1. It’s very well done. That’s not surprising, considering it features two top actors: Academy Award nominee David Strathairn (Darkest Hour, Good Night and Good Luck) as God/the Man and Brenton Thwaites (Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales)as Paul. Their back-and-forth discussion – fascinating and entertaining — takes up more than half the film. The rest of the movie involves Paul talking to his wife, his newspaper boss, and a mistress. Perry Lang, who has more than 48 mainstream titles to his credit, directed it.

2. It was made by Giving Films. That’s the same company that was behind 90 Minutes In Heavenand Paul, Apostle of Christ. The company donates all its proceeds to charities and will focus on…
