Billy Graham 14th August 2018 – The Beginning of Wisdom

Topic: The Beginning of Wisdom [Billy Graham Daily Devotional 14 August 2018]

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom . . . — 1 Corinthians 1:30

I believe we ought to get all the education we can, but we dare not make it our god. John Dewey once defined education as the systematic, purposeful reconstruction of experience; but so much of modern education leaves out God. What we are actually doing is reconstructing our sins. We expand our sins, enlarge them, multiply them. We need education, but not just for the mind and the body; we also need education for the spirit. Man has a spirit, and in our educational system today we need a spiritual emphasis. If we bring up a generation that lacks the wisdom that God can give, they can turn into educated savages and fools. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” and education. Let’s make sure our rock is God.

Prayer for the day: Almighty God, I am grateful to You that Your Word educates my spirit and makes me whole.

Pennsylvania Couple Fined for Using Farm for Bible Study, Prayer Groups

Pennsylvania Couple Fined for Using Farm for Bible Study, Prayer Groups

A couple in Pennsylvania has been served a cease-and-desist order for using their 32-acre farm for private prayer groups.

Scott and Terri Fetterolf received the order in 2017 after the Borough of Sewickley Heights in Pennsylvania claimed the farm “was being used improperly as a place of worship, a place of assembly and as a commercial venue and ‘special studio or school.’”

The borough is charging $500 for each permit if the couple wants to continue hosting activities at their farm.

The Fetterolf farm also has a yarn and wool shop and sells produce and flowers. The farm is also host to educational classes and private events.

The couple has filed an appeal to the cease-and desist order and is waiting to hear a decision from the federal court.

“I don’t seek to sue my borough and cause taxes to go up, I’m just trying to live my life,” Terri told the local newspaper.

The Fetterolfs are represented by the Independence Law Center, which is a branch of the Pennsylvania Family Institute.

“What they’re doing here is they are requiring them to make a request with the zoning board and get permission to hold a Bible study… require them to go through a public hearing to receive permission… and that kind of prior restraining is unconstitutional and infringing on their right to freely exercise their religion,” said Jeremy Samek, senior counsel for the…

Tim Peake says space trip made him consider intelligent design behind universe

On Friday evening, the Cathedral displayed the Soyuz Capsule which Peake had travelled in.

He spoke about his journey back to Earth in 2016 and answered questions from local children.

According to The Times, he said: “Although I say I’m not religious it doesn’t necessarily mean that I don’t seriously consider that the universe could have been created from intelligent design.

“There are many things in science that lead us towards that conclusion.

“From a point of view of seeing how magnificent the Earth is from space and seeing the cosmos from different perspective, it helps you to relate to that.”

Peake added that, as well as the scale of the universe being impressive, looking at the minute details also made him think: “When you look at the smaller scale, the micro level, and you understand quantum mechanics and quantum physics, there are many things that lead us… towards intelligent design of the universe.”

380 people attended the event, including the Dean of Peterborough, Very Rev Chris Dalliston.

The Cathedral’s director of music, Steven Grahl, played the theme to 2001: A Space Odyssey on the church organ.

The capsule will be in the cathedral until 5th November.

Nurse Who Was Fired for Telling Patients About Jesus Has Name Cleared

Nurse Who Was Fired for Telling Patients About Jesus Has Name Cleared

A British nurse who was fired for telling patients about her Christian faith was cleared last week following a two-year investigation.

Sarah Kuteh – who has 15 years of experience — worked at Darent Valley Hospital. As part of her job, she was required to ask patients about their faith during a pre-operation assessment questionnaire. This naturally led to conversations with some patients about her Christian faith, according to Christian Concern, a United Kingdom organization.

“I would … reassure them, based on the joy and peace that I really have found in Jesus,” she said.

But a few patients complained, leading to her dismissal in June 2016. Even worse, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) placed restrictions on her future employment. She found another job, but due to the restrictions she was required to have a senior nurse oversee her.

“All I had done was to nurse and care for patients,” she said. “How could it ever be harmful to tell someone about Jesus?”

But last week, the NMC dropped the restrictions, clearing her name. The NMC ruled, “It is in the public interest to return an otherwise experienced and competent nurse into practice.”

She was represented by the Christian Legal Centre.

“But for the question on the pre-op assessment questionnaire, these conversations would not have taken place,” Andrea Williams, chief executive of…

Christian MP faces trial accused of lying over speeding

Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya appeared at the Old Bailey on Monday charged with one count of doing an act tending or intending to pervert the course of justice (PCJ).

The 34-year-old, who won the marginal seat with a majority of just 607 votes in 2017, spoke only to confirm her identity and plead not guilty during the brief hearing.

She and her 33-year-old brother Festus Onasanya are alleged to have misinformed Cambridge police about who was responsible for driving a speeding vehicle on July 24 2017.

They claimed a man called Aleks Antipow was behind the wheel.

It is alleged that by naming him they enabled themselves to avoid prosecution.

Onasanya’s brother, from Chesterton, Cambridge, faces two further charges of PCJ.

He is alleged to have blamed someone else for two separate speeding incidents on June 17 and August 23 last year.

Ms Onasanya, who was a solicitor before her election to Parliament, is a Labour whip, meaning she is responsible for party discipline.

The siblings are due to next appear at the Old Bailey on October 26 for a pre-trial hearing.

A provisional trial date has been set for November 12.

Speaking to Premier shortly after her election victory she explained her role as a Christian in parliament.

She said: “Scripture says to go into all the world – the world isn’t just a geographic world – its spheres of influence.

“So I’m going into the world…

Open Heavens 14 August 2018 – Multilateral Partnership

Topic: Multilateral Partnership [Open Heavens 14 August 2018 Tuesday Daily Devotional]

Memorise: “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.”- 1 Corinthians 3:6

Read: 2 Corinthians 8:1-15 (KJV)

1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;

2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;

4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

6 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.

7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.

9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

10 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.

11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.

12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

13 For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:

14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:

15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 1-8, Matthew 20:1-19

Open Heavens 14 August 2018 MESSAGE:

One thing that interests me very much about our Father in Heaven is that He loves collaboration. In the beginning, He demonstrated this attribute when He wanted to create man in His image (Genesis 1:26). He summoned the opinion of the Godhead, because the man to be created must bear resemblance to them all. After creating man, He went ahead to share some of His responsibilities with him, which was one of the reasons why He created man in the first place. All through history, God has been working in partnership with man on earth. When He would destroy the earth due to the proliferation of evil, He found Noah as a worthy instrument to partner with in warning people of the impending doom and building an ark of salvation (Genesis 6). When the salvation of mankind was to be activated, God saw a worthy vessel in a young virgin called Mary. God partnered with her and she surrendered her womb for His use (Luke 1:26-38). When Christ came, He quickly summoned some people with whom He worked until He went to the Cross, and He commissioned them to continue from where He stopped after His ascension into heaven (Mark 3:14-19, Acts 1:6-9). These examples show that God’s use of partnerships in carrying out His divine agenda is established. I pray that the Almighty God will open your eyes today to see how important you are in His plans.

Paul got the inner workings of God’s principle of multilateral partnership right. In today’s memory verse, he explained that he might plant and Apollos might water but the increase only comes from God, in other words, the success of the divine agenda is the collective responsibility of God and His human partners, especially in the area of soul-wining. Our Lord Jesus Christ also made this clear in John 15:4-5. To win the whole world for Christ requires a multilateral partnership with each and every one of us playing our part. Those who are given to preaching should continue to preach, and those called to ministration should do as unto the Lord. Those who have the privilege of staying on in their secular job should know that the purpose is to finance the work of the full-timers, while full-timers should not see themselves as being more spiritual that those who God has kept in the secular jobs to bring meat into His storehouse. At the time of reward, it shall be as decreed in 1 Samuel 30:24:

…but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.

All that is required of you is faithfulness in your given area of stewardship.

Prayer Point: Father, please unite Your Church and drive away the spirit of division, so that we might unite for exploits.

1.Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise,
Let them flow in endless praise.

2.Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3.Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose,
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Police in India Demand Money to Release Falsely Accused Christians, Sources Say

Police in India Demand Money to Release Falsely Accused Christians, Sources Say

HYDERABADIndia, August 13, 2018 (Morning Star News) – About an hour before midnight on July 31, three policemen and a Hindu neighbor barged into a Christian woman’s house in northern India and ordered her and her husband to either give them money or go to jail.

The couple was immersed in prayer with their children and two other Christians in their home in Uttar Pradesh state’s Sarai Gunja village, in Jaunpur District. They worshipped in their house every night, and they had been fasting for three days, said the Christian woman, Anita Rajak.

The officers told them they couldn’t pray in their house and had come to arrest them, Rajak told Morning Star News.

“We are praying in our own house,” she told them. “Why would there be an arrest for praying inside one’s own house?”

One of the officers gave her two choices, she said: “Either you let us take your husband into custody and we will register cases against you all, or you pay the penalty so there will be no case.”

The 31-year-old mother of four said she asked them to show an arrest warrant, but they told her to shut up and hand over the money. When she said she had no money, they took her husband, Pappu Rajak, and another Christian to their Jeep, calling her a “prostitute Christian” and her husband a pimp when she tried to stop them.

Three times she called an emergency police…

Southern Baptist Convention Creates New Evangelism Group to Equip Pastors, Church Plants

(Photo: Baptist Press/Paul W. Lee)Small groups of messengers pray at the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting.

The Southern Baptist Convention’s North American Mission Board has announced the creation of a new evangelism and leadership group meant to help pastors and church plants.

NAMB named Jim Law, executive pastor at First Baptist Church of Woodstock, Georgia, a megachurch with approximately 6,000 regular weekly attendance, as the new group’s first executive director.

“I want to help make evangelism the top priority and help pastors lead their people in that direction,” said Law in a statement released Sunday.

Law also stated that he believed younger pastors are among “the sharpest leaders we have” in the SBC, expressing optimism that the new group will aid them in their ministries.

“They are our future. We need to start investing in them more and give them seats around the table. That is one of my priorities,” continued Law.

Christian charity welcomes government plans to end homelessness by 2027

Housing Justice, who help co-ordinate night shelters for anyone who needs it, said it is good the issue is being addressed by the Conservatives.

Their director, Jacob Quagliozzi, told Premier: “I think it’s encouraging to hear the government talking about rough sleeping and homelessness first of all and restating their commitment to doing something about it.

“We join in the kind of consensus really from the wider homelessness sector which is that this is on the right trajectory but there’s a lot more to do if we’re going to be serious about doing anything long term.”

Quagliozzi praised the fact the plans recognise the complexities of the issue – that it’s not simply about providing a roof but working on prevention as well.

Speaking of which issues the government will need to address if they want to prevent homelessness in the first place, he said: “There’s no getting away from the fact that the single biggest cause of statutory homelessness in England and Wales is the end of a tenancy in the private rented sector and we’ve got to do something about that.

“Partly, that is a reflection of a systemic problem in the UK housing market – that there’s not enough homes that people can afford in a sustainable way so tenancies are ending but also there’s a question about how sustainable those tenancies are.”

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn says the Government’s attempt isn’t good…

Army Chaplain Faces 6 Months in Prison After Not Affirming Same-Sex Couple

Army Chaplain Faces 6 Months in Prison After Not Affirming Same-Sex Couple

A U.S. Army chaplain is facing a dereliction of duty charge and potentially six months in a military prison after not accepting a same-sex couple in a marriage retreat, even though he ensured the two women they could take part in the next scheduled retreat with a different chaplain, according to his attorney.

U.S. Army Chaplain Maj. Scott Squires – who is Southern Baptist – faces the charge on a technicality. The Army report says the lesbian soldier who requested attendance at the Strong Bonds marriage retreat was “denied a service due to her sexual orientation.” But the same Army report says the charge is not for denying her a service but instead for not following Army policy in accommodating her until after a complaint was filed.

Squires, though, said he followed Army policy. As a chaplain endorsed by the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, he is prohibited from endorsing same-sex relationships. His chaplain assistant, SSG Kacie Griffin, faces a similar charge by the Army.

First Liberty is representing Squires.

“The United States Army, acting under the command of Major General Sonntag, is threatening to punish one of its chaplains because he followed the rules,” said Mike Berry of First Liberty. “The Army, or Congress, must hold Major General Sonntag accountable for allowing this aggressive anti-religious hostility…
