Why Some Dying Churches Don’t Know They Are Dying

Dying churches often don’t realize their problem until it’s too late. Today we look at the reasons why.

Today’s Listener Question:

FROM BRANDON

Why do dying churches not realize they are dying?

Episode Highlights:

  • Dying churches die because they refuse to confront reality.
  • Church members in dying churches often don’t realize the church is dying because their relational patterns have not been upset yet.
  • Church assessments give you perceptions of the members so that leaders can have a better view of the church.
  • “We aren’t as bad as that church” is not really a reason to be proud of your church.

The six reasons we discuss are:

  1. They are in denial
  2. They still have most of their friends in the church
  3. They have not done a church assessment
  4. They don’t see the decline day by day
  5. They think smaller is better
  6. They compare themselves to a church in worse condition

David Ibiyeomie: Mental Empowerment

Topic: Mental Empowerment

When it comes to earthly success, it is from the mind you succeed. This is because it is from the mind that earth-shaking ideas are born. The Holy Spirit is the source of empowerment

Acts 1:8a – But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:

As soon as the Holy Spirit comes on you, you become invested with authority to do exploits. The Spirit of God has empowered every child of God to operate in the class of Jesus.

It is your mental empowerment that determines your earthly placement. What you will be on earth is a function of your mind. When your mind is loaded, you cannot be earthly useless.

Dan.6:3 – Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

Daniel had an excellent spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of excellence. The mind is the capital of your life – everything you are looking for is in the mind. Therefore success or failure is determined by how you use your mind. That is why there are so many prayer giants who are failures in life because their spirit is revived but their mind is left fallow. They pray to cast out demons but they are earthly useless. If you are earthly useless, you will not be able to convert souls. Success is a commander of attraction while failure is an orphan.

Having being empowered at new birth by the Holy Ghost, you have to consciously develop your mind for exploits. Everything that will make you a success is already in you; God has given it to you but you have to stir it up.

You are where you are now because of how you have utilized your mind. Success has nothing to do with demons because the Lord has prepared a table before you IN THE PRESENCE of your enemies (Psalm 23:5). When the prodigal son tasked his mind, no demon was able stop him.

To consciously generate mental exploits and be productive in your mind, you must first and foremost know how to relate with the Holy Spirit. He is already in you as a child of God but you must build a good relationship with Him.

John 16:13 – Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Secondly, if you want to do exploits in life, you must be a reader.

Dan.9:2 – In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

Your mental capacity cannot increase except you read.

2Tim. 2:15 – Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Every time you read the bible, you are rubbing your mind with the mind of God because God’s thoughts are in His words. So also, every time you are reading a book, you are rubbing your mind with the mind of the author. If you are not a reader, you cannot be a leader.

Spend time review books and magazines in the field you want to delve into. The capacity of your mind will only grow based on what you are feeding her with. You must read because there is no short-cut to success.

I see you succeed as you implement these in Jesus name – Amen

God bless you

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 9 August 2018

TOPIC: The Snare of Spiritual Power (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Thursday, 9 August 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 2 Kings 2:19-24

MEMORY VERSE: “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.”James 1:19-20

The MESSAGE:

Spiritual power is given unto us to exercise authority over devils and bless the people of God. Whichever way we exercise this spiritual power, it must be to bring glory to God, profit to the body of Christ and devastating damage to the kingdom of darkness. This is the correct use of spiritual power. In our text today, Elisha correctly applied spiritual power by healing the waters of Jericho. However, soon after that wonderful miracle, a great challenge confronted him as the devil chose to engage him in destroying young children created in the image of God. He failed to resist the devil but fell into the snare of spiritual power. The same tongue with which he removed the curse upon Jericho, he engaged in cursing little children who insulted him. Later on in his ministry, his servant, Gehazi, incurred the wrath of Elisha and in return got everlasting curse of leprosy upon himself and his descendants. Sequel to the prophecy that brought about the deliverance of Samaria from the siege of Syria, the one who doubted the prophecy of Elisha was plagued with the curse of death. Joash the king of Israel had his own share of the wrath of Elisha when he failed to meet the unexpressed expectation of Elisha in the prophetic shooting of arrows to symbolise victory over Syria.

What shall we say to these things? The anointed man of God may be caught up in the snare of spiritual power to the point that the anointing becomes destructive rather than constructive. He gets to a point where he begins to use the anointing to threaten the members and the pastors. He is swift to curse in display of anger against the wrongdoings of members. Whenever this happens, the snare of power is trapping him. This should not happen at all. Such a man has an untamed tongue and is actively working for the devil rather than God. James 3:8-13 cautions us against the misuse of the anointing. We should not engage the same mouth we use to bless God in cursing men which are created in the image of God. A fountain cannot bring forth sweet and bitter water at the same time neither can it turn out both salt and fresh water. Jesus rebuked James and John in Luke 9:54-56 when they expressed their intention to call down fire to destroy the people of a Samaritan village who refused Jesus’ passage to Jerusalem through their land. The essence of spiritual power is not to destroy men’s lives but to save them. Take heed that you do not fall into the snare of spiritual power and if you are already trapped, the Lord shall deliver you, in Jesus’ name.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
ANOINTING BREAKS THE YOKE.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Your anointing will not be caught in the snare of destructive spiritual power.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. You the snare of spiritual power, I set you ablaze by fire, in the name of Jesus.
2. Uncontrollable anger in my life, I cast you out by fire, in the name of Jesus.
3. Holy Ghost fire, purge my spirit of any form of defilement, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Spiritual pride, I am not your candidate, loose your hold upon my life, in the name of Jesus.
5. O Lord, make me a vessel of honour, fit for the Master’s use, in the name of Jesus.
6. The anointing of God upon my life shall not be hijacked by the devil, in the name of Jesus.
7. I refuse to surrender my ministry and calling to the destroyers, in the name of Jesus.

TREM 9 August 2018 Daily Devotional

Topic: Your Story Will End In Glory [TREM 9 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ”. 2 Corinthians 4:6

From our text, you will notice that God didn’t command light to come out of light. Rather, He commanded light to come out of darkness. It means that in every darkness there is light. The fact that it looks dark and obscure does not mean that is the end of the story. That is where God comes in. That is where He flexes His muscle.

He dwells in the light which no one can approach. He is God! He is light Himself and the scripture says He commands light to come out of darkness. So, whatever the enemy has packaged, God is saying that is not the end. The final word belongs to God. Whatever that has held you down, light is coming out of it. No matter the complexity of your situation, I declare that solution is coming out of it. He commanded light to come out of darkness because He is God all by Himself. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is the Beginning and the End. He is the First and the Last.

According to the book of Hebrews 5:7 & 9, When Jesus had…….”offered up prayer and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to save Him from death, and was heard in that he feared. And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation….” Something new came out of Him. The new creation was born because of that. That is why the scripture says in I Corinthians 2:8 that if the princes of this world had known they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. So, I can boldly tell you right now that your situation will not end in disappointment. It will not end in disgrace. Don’t even make plans for failure because it will never end in failure. As long as Jesus Christ rose from the dead, triumphant over death, hell and grave; I can tell you without fear that your story will end in glory.

Teens Open Heaven 9 August 2018 – Weaknesses and Strengths

Topic: Weaknesses and Strengths [Teens Open Heaven 9, August 2018]

Memorise: But by the grace of God I am what I am: and His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 1 Corinthians 15:10

Read: 1 Corinthians 15:9-11 (KJV)

Bible In One Year: Psalm 85-87, Romans 9

MESSAGE:

Every human being have their strengths and weaknesses. Your strengths or area of endowment should remind you that you are a beneficiary of divine grace and as a result, you should not think that you are better, wiser or stronger than your neighbor who does not have the same gifts. When you ascribe glory to God for your strengths, He will sustain them. In the same way, your weaknesses should point you back to God. Your frailties, shortcomings and weaknesses remind you of the limitations of the flesh which should lead you to God, the only One who is unlimited.

As a Christian teenager, you must recognize your strengths. God has specially endowed you in certain areas for a purpose. In order to optimize your strengths, there is a need to find out their purpose and set out to achieve them. Learn more about your strengths and seek to improve them constantly. On the other hand, in areas of you weakness, the challenge is to prayerfully turn them into strengths. With God’s help, this is possible. Your weaknesses can become your virtues.

Action Point: Ask God to turn your weaknesses into strengths.

Hymn 6:

1. Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home:
2. Under the shadow of your throne
Your saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is your arm alone,
And our defense is sure

3. Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received its frame,
From everlasting you are God,
To endless years the same.

4. A thousand ages in your sight
Are like an evening gone
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

5. Time, like an ever_rolling stream,
Soon bears us all away;
We fly forgotten, as a dream
Does at the opening day.

6. Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Still be our guard while troubles last,
And our eternal home!

Kenneth & Gloria Copeland 9 August 2018 Daily Devotional – Possess God’s Rest

Topic: Possess God’s Rest [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland 9th August 2018 Daily Devotional]

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God…. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. – Hebrews 4:9,11

God’s rest. Considering the hectic, busy lives you and I live that sounds like a pretty good thing to have, doesn’t it? But exactly what is that rest? And how do we enter it?

The third and fourth chapters of Hebrews compare God’s rest with the children of Israel taking possession of the Promised Land. That land was to be a place where their every need would be met, a place of freedom from their warring enemies, a place no one would ever drive them from again. All they had to do was go in and possess it. But something kept them from it: unbelief and disobedience.

As believers, we too, have the opportunity to enter a promised land of abundance and peace. A land where we can rest from our struggles and enjoy the victory of God. To enter it we must do what the children of Israel failed to do. We must simply trust God and obey His voice.

How do you come to that place of trust and obedience? By getting to know your Father. By spending time fellowshiping with Him in prayer and in the Word. That is the labor that will bring you into His rest!

I’ll never forget when I first discovered that. I had been learning the principles of faith, striving hard to do them. It seemed back then that keeping doubt and unbelief out of my heart was difficult. Then, one day, I began to labor to know the Father instead of just knowing about Him.

When I did that, He began to reveal Himself to me. He gave me glimpses of His heart, His nature and His love. As He revealed to me how much He wanted to do for His children, it changed my striving into peace, my doubt into trust, my fear into bold obedience. It enabled me to enter His rest.

Get to know your Father. Work at it. Make it your “labor.” He has a promised land of rest that is waiting for you!

Our Daily Bread Devotional 9 August 2018 – A Good Daddy

Topic: A Good Daddy [Our Daily Bread 9th Thursday August, 2018]

Read: Psalm 63, Bible in a Year: Psalms 77–78; Romans 10

On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Psalm 63:6

When our son, Xavier, was younger, business trips often pulled my husband away from home. Though his father called often, there were rough nights when the calls alone didn’t comfort Xavier. To help soothe our son when he felt he needed his dad, I’d pull out our photo albums as he prepared for bedtime. I’d point out the images that showed them spending time together and ask, “Do you remember this?”

Memory after memory encouraged our son, who often said, “I have a good daddy.”

I understood Xavier’s need to be reminded of his father’s love when he couldn’t see him. Whenever I’m going through tough or lonely times, I too long to know I’m loved, especially by my heavenly Father.

David proclaimed his deep yearning for God as he hid from his enemies in the desert (Psalm 63:1). Remembering his personal encounters with God’s limitless power and satisfying love led him to praise (vv. 2–5). Through his most difficult nights, David could still rejoice in his dependable Father’s loving care (vv. 6–8).

During our dark times, when we feel as if God’s not there for us, we need reminders of who God is and how He’s demonstrated His love. Reflecting on our personal experiences with Him, as well as His actions recorded in Scripture, can affirm the countless ways our good Abba Father loves us.

Prayer: Lord, thanks for demonstrating Your endless love to Your people, in our lives and through the words You preserved in Scripture.

Remembering God’s works, which reveal His character, reassures us of His love.

DCLM Daily Manna 9th August 2018 Daily Devotional – God’s Goodness and Severity

Topic: God’s Goodness and Severity [DCLM Daily Manna 9th August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: Isaiah 30:27-33 (KJV)

Key Verse: “For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod” (Isaiah 30:31).

MESSAGE:

God’s love and goodness have always been many people’s focus. Truly, God is “merciful and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands …[but he] will by no means clear the guilty” (Exodus 34:6,7). The “goodness and severity” of God then, must be juxtaposed to have a balanced picture of who God really is.

In our text, God’s power and glory is seen from a distance with fire and smoke showing His anger. His breath like overflowing stream can carry everything away, sweeping the nations to destruction and putting an end to their evil plans. The Assyrian will be judged and their king cast into “Tophet” – a form of hell fire. Men will feel the force of God’s anger “with the flame of devouring fire…”

It is not the will of God that a sinner should perish. He desires that all men will be saved. But then, men are free moral agents. God says, “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19). The choice to hearken, obey and serve God is a good one. To reject His entreaties will amount to self-condemnation
on and eternal loss.

God will judge the wicked by His standards. Assyria may have reigned over nations with terror for years, but judgment came upon her eventually. God is still calling men today so that He can give them rest.

Thought For The Day: Taking God’s love for granted is damning.

Seeds of Destiny 9 August 2018 Daily Devotional

Topic: Investment into Eternity – The Most Important Investment in Life [Seeds of Destiny 9 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Scripture: In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. Ecclesiastes 11:6

Thought For The Day: Making investment in heaven is the most important investment in life.

It has been confirmed that investment into eternity is one of the most important things if not the most important thing in life.

One of the challenges of people is earthly consciousness; they invest greatly on earth without any investment in heaven. One reason the rich do not want to hear about death is their massive investment on earth. When they are sick, they are easily agitated and want to know the outcome of a test the doctor runs on them because they do not want to die; they have money, houses and cars everywhere but they have no investment in heaven. This is not how to live. Making investment in heaven is the most important investment in life.

When you use your money to build a church, give to the poor and evangelistic outreaches, you are making investments in heaven. When you are an aggressive soul winner, you are making investments in heaven. This is how to live. I am aware that I have some massive investments in heaven. For example, the money I have spent for God and His cause alone in the previous year, I have not spent it on myself, my parents, wife or children; probably, I cannot spend such money on myself and family for the next five or ten years. There are souls I have led to Christ that are already there in heaven and I am looking forward to meeting them.

Beloved, I want you to live for what really matters when it matters most in life; live for what will matter when your clothes, money, cars and houses do not matter anymore.

Remember this: Making investment in heaven is the most important investment in life.

Assignments:
1. Maintain an upright living; flee from iniquity.
2. Decide to invest into eternity by giving for kingdom purposes and the less privileged.
3. Determine to win souls for God.

Prayer: O Lord, I receive Your grace to invest into the expansion of Your Kingdom on earth and also to empower the less privileged. I receive Your help to win souls for the Kingdom, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Andrew Wommack 9th August 2018 Daily Devotional – Our Resurrected Bodies

Topic: Our Resurrected Bodies [Andrew Wommack 9th August 2018 Daily Devotional]

John 11:13 “Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.”

Text: John 11:11-14

There are many scriptures where death is spoken of as sleep, however, the disciples thought Jesus was speaking of Lazarus simply resting. Jesus eventually clarifies their misunderstanding by using the word “death,” but that was not His first choice. This is because God’s perspective is different than ours. Death is final to natural man but not to God. There will be a resurrection.

In his second letter to the Corinthians Paul uses natural illustrations to explain the resurrection. He speaks of seeds that are buried in the ground and “die.” Then they are resurrected as a plant. The plant and the seed bear no resemblance but they are actually the same. The plant is just in a resurrected state. Likewise, our physical bodies will die but they will be resurrected just as surely as seeds produce plants.

In the same way that a seed is different than the plant that it produces, likewise our resurrected bodies will be different. Our glorified bodies will be very similar to our physical bodies in appearance. This can be said because of what the scriptures reveal about Jesus’ glorified body. He still looked human, He ate food, had the print of the nails in His hands and feet, and He said He had flesh and bones. Yet he could appear and disappear. Our resurrected bodies will be immortal (i.e. not subject to death). Our resurrected bodies will be like Jesus’ resurrected body.

In the same way that our present physical bodies are a miraculous creation, so our glorified resurrected bodies will have their own glory. We can rest assured that God never serves dessert first. If this physical body is wonderful, our resurrected body will be even better.
