Topic: Tear Down Your Walls with Faith [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Sunday August 5, 2018]

For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’ — Jeremiah 30:17

To avoid pain, some of us build walls around ourselves so we will not get hurt, but that is pointless. God has shown me that it is impossible to live in this world if we are not willing to get hurt. People are not perfect; therefore, they hurt and disappoint us, just as we hurt and disappoint others.

I have a wonderful husband, but occasionally he has hurt me. Because I came from such a painful background, the moment that kind of thing happened, I used to put up walls to protect myself. After all, I reasoned, no one can hurt me if I don’t let anyone get close to me. However, I learned that if I wall others out, I also wall myself in. The Lord has shown me that He wants to be my protector, but He cannot do that if I am busy trying to protect myself.

He has not promised that I will never get hurt, but He has promised to heal me if I come to Him rather than try to take care of everything myself. If you build walls around yourself out of fear, then you must tear them down out of faith.

Go to Jesus with each old wound and receive His healing grace. When someone hurts you, take that new wound to Jesus. Do not let it fester. Take it to the Lord and be willing to handle it His way and not your own. Receive this scripture as a personal promise from the Lord to you:

“For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’” (Jeremiah 30:17).

With the help of the Lord, you can survive hurt and disappointment and find your completion “in Him.”

Prayer Starter: Father, You have created me to have good relationships. Help me to step out in freedom. Please heal me of any wounds that are holding me back. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Topic: The Spoken Word is the Solution [TREM 5 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

“By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.” Psalm 33:6 (KJV)

As a child of God, whenever you are faced with any situation, don’t start looking at the problem, start looking at the solution. That is how it works in the kingdom. God doesn’t start solving problems from the problem. You can never solve your problem from the problem; start from the solution. What is the solution? Whatever the word of God says; that’s the solution. Stand in the word and the problem will submit to “thus says the Lord”.

Beloved, if you learn to accept and stand on what God has said, it will change what is happening around you because the greatest power of God is His word. For instance, it was what God said in Genesis chapter 1 that brought the entire universe into existence. His word has no margin of failure. What the word accomplished in the beginning can still be accomplished in your life today. You need to function with the understanding that it is the word of God that will prevail and manifest in your life

One word from the Lord can make all the difference in your life. Struggles come to an end when you receive the proceeding word. You know what others don’t know and that makes you stand out. You can only display this unusual wisdom that will put you ahead of the pack if you are properly grounded in the word of God. So be a stickler for the word. You need to continually feed your spirit man with the word and the word will produce for you. It is as you give the word the place of priority in your life that fresh strategies, insights, ideas, and concepts will become commonplace in your life. I declare that you will shock your detractors. All those coming to still see you on the floor will get to where they left you only to discover that you have moved on.

Topic: Watch and Pray [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland 5th August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. – Matthew 26:41

Have you ever been frustrated with the weaknesses of your flesh? Have you ever resolved never more to yield to a particular sin, yet when the temptation came, you fell right back into it?

It’s happened to all of us—even the disciple Peter. He swore he would never deny Jesus…but he did it anyway, time and time and time again.

There is, however, something we can do to keep from falling prey to temptations like that. We can “watch and pray.” That’s what Jesus told Peter and the other disciples to do in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew they were about to be tempted, and He knew that the weakness of their flesh would overcome them if they didn’t strengthen their spirits through prayer.

That’s true for you and me too. That’s why in Jude 20-21, God tells us much the same thing that Jesus told the disciples that night. He says, “But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith…praying in the Holy Spirit; guard and keep yourselves in the love of God…” (The Amplified Bible).

God knows even better than we do that our flesh has been trained to flow with the world’s stream. He knows that even though our born-again spirits are reaching for God, our untrained flesh will always have a tendency to fall into sin.

So, He’s given us the ability to pray in other tongues, to strengthen our spirits and build ourselves up until our spirits take ascendancy over our flesh. As we pray in the spirit, Romans 8:26 tells us, the “[Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf…” (The Amplified Bible).

Is it any wonder the Apostle Paul said, “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all” (1 Corinthians 14:18)! It is one of the most powerful tools God has given us.

So don’t neglect to use it. Follow the instruction in Ephesians 6:18 and pray “always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance.”

Don’t make the mistake that Peter made. When temptation comes to your door, don’t let it catch you sleeping. Be prepared. Make sure your spirit is strong enough to rise above it.

MESSAGE:

Yesterday, we learnt that it is better to listen more than you speak. It is however dangerous to never speak. God gave us mouth so that we can express ourselves. So when you are in need of help, it is with your mouth that you can call for help. It is through your mouth that people can know how much knowledge you have in your head. If you are wise a s Solomon, but you always keep everything to yourself, nobody will ever know how wise you are. So also in your school, church or community, if you do not speak when you need to, people will not know your ability to handle certain responsibilities. If you also do not speak up when you need help, you may end up suffering in silence.

Is an adult touching you inappropriately? Speak up! Are you being bullied or cheated? Speak up! On the reverse, do you have great ideas that can help your school, community or church? Speak up! Are you tired of certain situations in your life? Tell God!

Key Point: Never be afraid to speak up because if you never do, you may never get help when you need it the most.

The Lord is slow to anger but great in power. Nahum 1:3

As my friend and I went for a walk, we talked about our love for the Bible. She surprised me when she said, “Oh, but I don’t like the Old Testament much. All of that hard stuff and vengeance—give me Jesus!”

We might resonate with her words when we read a book like Nahum, perhaps recoiling at a statement such as, “The Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath” (Nahum 1:2). And yet the next verse fills us with hope: “The Lord is slow to anger but great in power” (v. 3).

When we dig more deeply into the subject of God’s anger, we understand that when He exercises it, He’s most often defending His people or His name. Because of His overflowing love, He seeks justice for wrongs committed and the redemption of those who have turned from Him. We see this not only in the Old Testament, as He calls His people back to Himself, but also in the New, when He sends His Son to be the sacrifice for our sins.

We may not understand the mysteries of the character of God, but we can trust that He not only exercises justice but is also the source of all love. We need not fear Him, for He is “good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him” (v. 7).

Prayer: Father God, You are good. You are loving and You are merciful. Help me to understand more fully some of the mysteries of Your redeeming love today.

God’s justice and mercy intersect at the cross.

Topic: Aaron – The Chosen Priest [DCLM Daily Manna 5th August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: Numbers 17:1-13 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And the LORD said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not“ (Numbers 17:10).

MESSAGE:

The tussle for leadership is as old as the world itself. These tussles are attributable to the fallen nature of man. Surprisingly, this evil manifests among the people of God too.

In our text, due to constant murmurings of the Israelites against Aaron’s priesthood, God decided to put the matter to rest by instructing each tribe to bring a rod with their names written on them, including Aaron’s rod representing Levi, to be laid up in the tabernacle overnight. The rod which the Lord chooses “shall blossom”. This was done, and in the morning, Aaron’s rod budded. Thus, his priesthood was confirmed.

The prerogative of choosing leaders is with God. No man therefore, has the right to question His choice. As a Sovereign and Omniscient God, He knows the end from the beginning.

Today, Christ, as the Head and Owner of the Church, has the exclusive right through the Holy Spirit to appoint leaders over His Body – the Church. He decides and gives “some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, for the perfecting of the saints and for the work of the ministry and for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11,12).

The Church must accept and cooperate with all leaders as appointed by God, without preferring one to another. The leaders appointed too should understand the importance of their calling and do all things “without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality …showing [themselves] a pattern of good works” (1 Timothy 5:21; Titus 2:7,8). When things are done God’s way, the Church stands strong.

Thought For The Day: The Blessing causes the blessed to exist as a difference maker.

The Scripture makes it clear that a major thing God gave to Adam after creation in order for him to fulfil destiny was the Blessing. This is because the Blessing of God is indispensable to the life and destiny of man even from the beginning of creation.

Now, one necessity of the Blessing is that the Blessing imparts the supernatural force that positions people for generational influence and impact.

Now, what does this mean?
1. The Blessing is necessary for existence as a generational gap and vacuum filler
The Blessing makes you a generational space occupier; it makes you a person of timber and calibre; it processes you into a person of substance and stature.

2. The Blessing processes the blessed into a generational problem solver and solution provider
The Blessing makes a person an answer in his place of work, family, community or nation. This was what Joseph and Daniel had that made them provide answers to Pharaoh and Nebuchadnezzar.

3. The Blessing causes the blessed to exist as a difference maker
This is when you do not just exist but live to make a difference.

Now, I give you one key to activate the Blessing of God amidst other keys:
1. Obedience to God and righteousness of life (Deuteronomy 28:1-2). Righteousness will give you the Blessing but crookedness will deny you the Blessing of God.

Beloved, my counsel is, make up your mind to activate the blessing of God in your life.

Remember this: The Blessing causes the blessed to exist as a difference maker.

Assignments:
1. Desire the blessing of God in your life.
2. Ask God to release His Blessing on your life

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the impartation of the Blessing upon my life. Help me, Lord, to connect the Blessing through covenant practice and the prophetic cover over my life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
