Revoice Is ‘Halfway House’ Between LGBT Culture and Evangelical Christianity

(Screenshot: Youtube)Hundreds gather for the Revoice Conference at Memorial Presbyterian Church of St. Louis, Missouri on July 26-28, 2018.

A prominent Southern Baptist leader is criticizing the recent Revoice conference, saying it is awash in confusing language and does not represent faithful Christianity despite its assertions of adherence to biblical sexual ethics.

“Revoice represents an attempt to build a halfway house between LGBTQ+ culture and evangelical Christianity,” said Al Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

The Revoice conference, which took place last week at a St. Louis, Missouri, Presbyterian (PCA) church, was put on with the stated goal of supporting and encouraging Christians who identify as LGBT “so they can flourish while observing the historic, Christian doctrine of marriage and sexuality.”

Yet in the weeks leading up to the event, some expressed alarm and asserted that the notable evangelicals who endorsed or associated themselves with Revoice were furthering unscriptural views about identity and appropriating the lingo of gay activism, particularly talk of “sexual minorities” and “redeeming queer culture,” as was described on the conference website.

In a lengthy post on his website Wednesday, Mohler analyzed the…

New Wine leader says Christian conferences are alive and well

Rev Paul Harcourt has been speaking from the United event, hosted by New Wine, which sees thousands of Christians from across the country gather at the Bath and West Showground in Somerset.

His comments come after it was announced the Soul Survivor events will end next year.

While many Christian conferences continue to grow, others have reported trouble selling tickets with some being cancelled completely.

Harcourt is confident about the future.

He said: “In the early days at New Wine, every year we would ask the question ‘should we do it again?’ and we try to have the attitude of ‘what does the Lord want in this season?’.

“Yes, one or two of the older conferences are ending but newer conferences are emerging as well.

“There is actually a growing desire among younger Christians to gather in celebration and experience community so I’m confident there’s going to be continued explosion of Christian conferences.

United Methodists Debate, Lobby and Worry in Advance of LGBT Decision

United Methodists Debate, Lobby and Worry in Advance of LGBT Decision

At a recent gathering of United Methodists, organizers sold purple T-shirts quoting the Methodist founder John Wesley’s instruction: “Do Not Rashly Tear Asunder.”

In Methodist circles these days, citing the founder’s admonition can be understood only as a plea for an amicable solution to the denomination’s coming showdown over homosexuality.

A special session of the General Conference, to be held in February in St. Louis, will decide whether, how and which churches within United Methodism will allow openly gay clergy and same-sex marriage rites, and whether homosexuality is “incompatible with Christian teaching.” No matter which of three ways forward is adopted at the meeting, it’s expected that some congregations will choose to sunder their ties to the worldwide body of United Methodism.

Christian think tank rejects MP’s claim over gay marriage opposition

Ged Killen, Labour MP from Glasgow, is married to a man from Northern Ireland.

During a speech at the annual Amnesty International Pride lecture in Belfast on Thursday he said:

“Make no mistake. Same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland will happen.

“Those who stand opposed risk alienating a generation.

“The children of future married same-sex couples, their friends and their families will not forgive nor forget those who stood in the way of equality.”

A spokesperson for Iona Institute Northern Ireland said she disagrees with the comments and said it’s an example of “very damaging information” as to why people are opposing the extension of same sex marriage to NI.

Tracy Harkin told Premier News Hour: “This is not an equality issue.

“This is whether or not we still need civil marriage as a social intuition and for the good of children, and in particular I think we do. It’s been very frustrating to hear these constant accusations of homophobia or being anti-equality and I think that needs to stop.”

Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK in which same-sex marriage has not been legalised due to opposition from its largest party, the DUP.

While Harkin rejected Killen’s opinion, she acknowledged that the gay marriage debate in NI has had a negative effect on those who support it.

“That’s an awful message to be hearing because I think it further marginalises an already…

Open Heavens 4 August 2018 – Laughter from Divine Visitation I

Topic: Laughter from Divine Visitation I [Open Heavens 4 August 2018 Saturday Daily Devotional]

Memorise: “And there was great joy in that city.”- Acts 8:8

Read: Genesis 18:1-14 (KJV)

1 And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,

3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:

4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:

5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.

6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.

7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.

8 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.

10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?

14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

Bible in One Year: Job 5-8, Matthew 13:24-44

Open Heavens 4 August 2018 MESSAGE:

There is a link between divine visitation and laughter. When God comes visiting, He ensures He leaves behind something to laugh about before He departs. We see this manifested when Philip the evangelist took the presence of God to Samaria with the preaching of the gospel. The aftermath of this divine visitation was laughter (Acts 8:5-8). Today’s Bible reading also narrates how Abraham invited the presence of God into his tent without even knowing it. Because Abraham was given to hospitality, he was just doing what he knew how to do best. Little did he know that he was entertaining the angels of the Lord! After this visit, he and his wife received something to laugh about.

When you visit God in His sanctuary, you go home with what your faith can carry. A divine visitation is more awesome than this. During a divine visitation, the Almighty comes to you with his entourage, loaded with blessings, many of which money cannot buy. If God were to judge Sarah by her faith, she would have received nothing from Him. However, as Sarah’s case shows, when God comes visiting, He has already made up His mind to bless you regardless of the level of your faith. Many things happen when you receive an unexpected divine visitation, one of which is that God accepts your offering. When God was passing by Abraham’s tent, Abraham did not even know that it was God coming his way. Nevertheless, he extended an invisitation which activated this life-changing visit, which had been preordained by God Himself. It is therefore no surprise that God readily accepted his invitation and also accepted his offerings of food and drink. I pray that God will today accept your invitation of His presence into your life for salvation, healing, breakthrough, joy and great laughter. I also pray that He will accept the offering of your life to Him in Jesus’ Name. When the Shunammite woman invited Elisha into her home, little did she know that she was attracting a divine visitation into her life (2 Kings 4:8-17). Because God wanted to bless her, He accepted her invitation to abide under her roof through His prophet. As a result of this, the man of God was moved by God to consider that this woman who had been meeting his needs and those of his servant must also have a need of her own to be met. When he asked what he could do for her, she said she needed nothing. Thank God his servant recognised the one need which money could not buy in her life: she had no child and her husband was old. Nine months later, she was carrying her baby. You should learn from this woman’s experience that your need cannot be met unless you realise that you have a need. I pray that the Almighty God will choose your home for His abode today, and this gesture will be a point of contact for meeting your age-long needs in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Father, please visit me today and cause me to laugh in Jesus’ Name.

Double amputee wins modeling contract

Daisy-May Demetre was born with underdeveloped fibular bones in both legs. Her parents chose to have her legs amputated below the knee. After being fitted with prosthetics, she can walk, run, and jump and is an avid gymnast.

She is also a model.

Daisy-May has appeared on the catwalk at London Fashion Week. Now the seven-year-old has been awarded a contract with British fashion brand River Island. The company explained: “We required a model who has lots of energy and who looked great in activewear. Daisy-May Demetre fitted this brief perfectly.”

Her parents aren’t shocked that their daughter is inspiring so many people. Her father explained: “The support we get through Instagram from other disabled and non-disabled people is what we are about–helping to put smiles on faces and inspire people to push and follow their dreams.”

Woods and Mickelson will play for $10 million

Material success can be used for significant purposes.

Consider yesterday’s announcement that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will play a $10-million showdown match Thanksgiving weekend. The two golfing legends will compete against each other in the Las Vegas area on November 23 or 24.

They hope the match starts a series of events of a similar nature, pitting people or teams against one another with a high purse at stake.

Neither needs the money. They lead all active golfers in career earnings (Woods with more than $112 million and Mickelson with more than $87 million). Woods has made an additional $1.4 billion and Mickelson an additional $50 million in endorsements.

I hope the winner donates the $10 million to charity.

Yesterday, Apple became the first publicly listed US company to achieve a $1 trillion stock market valuation. CEO Tim Cook has made significant donations to hurricane relief and other causes and plans to donate his fortune to philanthropic projects. But imagine the impact if his company made a tithe of $100 billion to charity.

Success is more than wealth….

Christian charity appeals for summer donations to foodbanks

The Trussell Trust said its 420 foodbanks, which are mostly run by churches, provided more than 204,000 three-day emergency supplies last summer, 74,000 of which went to children, 3,500 more than in May and June.

The charity said more than a third of food distributed by its network throughout the year goes to children, but there is extra financial pressure to provide main meals during the school holidays for families who rely on free school meals.

Last summer more food was distributed by the Trust than was donated, prompting the charity to ask the public to help out this year.

Samantha Stapley, director of operations at the Trussell Trust, said: “Foodbanks cannot, and must not, be a long-term solution to hunger at any time of year.

“No-one should face going hungry and, although our network will be doing all they can this summer to help families struggling to make the money they have stretch to cover the essentials, no charity can replace people having enough money for the basics.

“There are changes we can make as a nation to help during the holidays, but if we are to protect each other from hunger whatever the time of year, we have to go further than that.

“We know particular groups of people are most likely to need a foodbank, so let’s make sure no-one is swept into destitution.

“Our benefits system can, and must, act as an anchor to protect people from being pulled…

Leading monk accused of sexually harassing nuns

Longquan Monastery abbot Shi Xuecheng is accused of harassing and demanding sexual favours from numerous nuns in a 95-page statement compiled by two fellow monks at the centre of Buddhist learning in Beijing.

The statement including evidence from the alleged victims leaked this week on social media, prompting an outcry and unusual coverage by state media before it was censored.

China’s State Administration of Religious Affairs said it would investigate the claims. Xuecheng and the monastery denied the accusations, which also included claims of embezzlement.

It is unclear if Xuecheng is still serving as abbot. Shi Xianqi, a monastery deacon who had reported the abbot, said he and the other whistleblower, Shi Xianjia, had been expelled from the monastery and were co-operating with the government investigation.

Xuecheng, who heads the Buddhist Association of China and serves on a political advisory body to the central government, is the latest high-profile man to fall under scrutiny as China’s #MeToo movement accumulates momentum.

Well-known university professors, activists and media figures have been accused online and placed under investigation, with at least one dismissed from his post, as more women speak out despite the risk of censorship and official retribution.

Xuecheng, 51, is a well-known religious figure in China, having published numerous books and daily…
