Pro-Brexit Figures Urge PM May to Prepare for No Trade Agreement With European Union – Urban Christian News

Pro-Brexit politicians and business figures have urged British Prime Minister Theresa May to be ready to walk away from the European Union without a trade agreement, despite warnings from major manufacturers that a “no deal” Brexit would be an economic disaster.

In an open letter, 60 lawmakers, economists and business chiefs accused the EU of being “intransigent” in divorce talks and said Britain should threaten to withhold the 39 billion pound ($52 billion) divorce bill it has already agreed to pay.

The letter released Sunday by Economists for Free Trade was signed by prominent supporters of a “hard Brexit,” including ex-U.K. Treasury chief Nigel Lawson, Conservative lawmakers John Redwood and Peter Bone, and Tim Martin, chairman of the Wetherspoons pub chain.

They urged U.K. authorities “to accelerate their preparations for ‘no deal’ and a move to a World Trade Deal under WTO rules.”

That would mean tariffs and other trade barriers between Britain and the EU, and many businesses say it would severely harm the U.K. economy. Airbus, Siemens and BMW have all warned recently that leaving the EU without a free-trade deal would hurt British businesses and cost jobs. Airbus alone employs nearly 14,000 workers in the U.K.

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the warnings from businesses were “inappropriate” and undermined chances of getting a “clean Brexit.”

“The more that we undermine Theresa May, the more likely we are to end up with ‘a fudge,’ which would be an absolute disaster for everyone,” he told the BBC.

May’s Conservative government is divided…

TREM Devotional 25 June 2018 by Dr. Mike Okonkwo – Forget To Be Fruitful

Topic: Forget To Be Fruitful [TREM Devotional Monday June 25, 2018]

“And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house. And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.” Genesis 41:51-52

Joseph had gone through so much in the hands of his brothers. His brothers hated him so badly that they sold him into slavery. They connived to get rid of him because his father openly loved him more than them all. So much for siblings’ rivalry. This should be a lesson for all parents, to beware of creating obvious favouritism in the family. Every child has a part to play and don’t make one child feel preferred than others. It is a dangerous thing.

Jacob had flaunted his love for Joseph so much that it created a sharp enmity between him and his brothers who sold him to slavery. Joseph went from challenge to challenge – from slavery he went to prison for no fault of his; but from prison, God looked upon him and took him to the throne.

The natural person will be bitter and begin to seek the opportunity for revenge; but not Joseph. He understood the fact that for him to move forward, he needed to forgive and forget, and ensure there is no root of bitterness in him. His decision is seen clearly in the names of the children and the order of their names is instructive. The first one is “Forget”, and he said, “God has made me to forget all my toil and slavery” and the second is Ephraim which means ‘to be fruitful’. In other words, you must learn to forget to be fruitful.

Dearly beloved, is there anything you are holding back on? Let it go today. Forgive and move on and see God come through for you as you become fruitful in the land.

Seeds of Destiny 25 June 2018 by Pastor Paul Enenche – Major Indicators Of Time Wastage

Topic: Major Indicators Of Time Wastage [Seeds of Destiny Monday June 25, 2018]

Scripture: And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Ephesians 5:18.

Thought For The Day: Focusing on our past mistakes and errors ruins today and frustrates our tomorrow.

Previously, we looked at time and life wasting activities; we identified procrastination, idleness, plan-less living and aimless socialization as what should be avoided in order to maximize our lives on earth.

It is also important to mention other activities that serve as indicators of time wastage.
1. Garbage Intake
This refers to an intake of what does not edify you for example, aimless watching of the television. Statistics show that aimless watching of programs on television has the potential to reduce the intelligence quotients of people drastically; it destroys learning activities like reading, studying and listening. Garbage intake is detrimental to life and destiny. Just as garbage attracts flies, aimless watching of the TV, movies and video games is dangerous. Garbage intake is a time and life waster.

2. Poison intake
This is the intake of morally poisonous things like the reading or watching of pornographic materials, immoral movies or books; surfing the internet to watch nude pictures, drinking of alcohol and tobacco smoking, etc. Many people have lost their jobs because of internet addiction and pornography. An addict may start with spending thirty minutes daily on the internet, then one or two hours, then he graduates to spending five hours daily out of his official time on the internet. Accessing the performance of an employee who is addicted to the internet may reveal little or no productive output to his credit. This is not correct. Beloved, if you think that you are not being monitored at your place of work and you use the official time for something else, one day, it will catch up with you in life. Alcohol or tobacco damages the brain.

3. Focusing on the past
Focusing on the past ruins the present; focussing on our past mistakes and errors ruins today and frustrates our tomorrow. Anything that is in the past has passed; so, let it pass. Focusing on past failure, hurts, and mistakes kills a destiny.

Beloved, make up your mind not to waste your life; avoid time wasters.

Remember this: Focussing on our past mistakes and errors ruins today and frustrates our tomorrow.

Assignments:
1. Avoid the intake of garbage and poisonous things like pornography, alcohol, tobacco and aimless watching of the Television.
2. Refuse to live in your past in your present and future; forgive and forget the negative past.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask that You deliver me from the intake of poison and garbage. Help me to forgive and forget my negative past, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Kenneth & Gloria Copeland Devotional 25 June 2018 – Don’t Get in a Hurry

Topic: Don’t Get in a Hurry [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Monday June 25, 2018]

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt…talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up…. and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. – Deuteronomy 6:6-8

One of the reasons Gloria and I have seen the results we have in our lives and in our ministry is because when we realized what the Word of God would do, we literally immersed ourselves in it. We turned off the radio and television, put down the newspaper, and spent nearly every waking moment of the time available either reading the Word, listening to tapes on the Word, or thinking about the Word.

All that time in the Word eventually had a powerful effect on us. It began to revolutionize everything about us. It began to turn failure into success.

All that didn’t happen overnight, however. It took time. A great many believers don’t realize that. They start out devoting themselves to the Word, but they make the mistake of expecting instant, miraculous results, and when they don’t see them, they get disappointed and fall away.

Don’t do that. Be patient. Give the Word time to do its work.

Jesus once said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). The Word of God feeds the spirit man just as bread feeds the body. Food has to be built into your body. The vitamins and minerals it contains have a cumulative effect on it, don’t they? In fact, almost anything that affects your body instantaneously is considered dangerous.

Much the same thing is true with the Word of God. It has a cumulative effect. Yes, at times God will act instantly and perform a miracle, but only to get things back on track. What He really intends is for you to feed on His Word to grow in strength and in faith and to bear fruit in due season.

So don’t get in such an all-fired hurry. Stay in the Word. Be patient. The results will come!

Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 7:11-23

Our Daily Bread Devotional 25 June 2018 – Saying Grace

Topic: Saying Grace [Our Daily Bread 25 Monday June, 2018]

Read: Colossians 3:12–17, Bible in a Year: Job 3–4; Acts 7:44–60

Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

For many years, I’ve enjoyed the writings of British author G. K. Chesterton. His humor and insight often cause me to chuckle and then pause for more serious contemplation. For example, he wrote, “You say grace before meals. All right. But I say grace before the play and the opera, and grace before the concert and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing; and grace before I dip the pen in the ink.”

It’s good for us to thank the Lord before every meal, but it shouldn’t stop there. The apostle Paul saw every activity, every endeavor as something for which we should thank God and that we should do for His glory. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17). Recreation, occupation, and education are all avenues through which we can honor the Lord and express our gratefulness to Him.

Paul also encouraged the believers in Colossae to “let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful” (v. 15).

The best place to “say grace” is anywhere and anytime we want to give thanks to the Lord and honor Him.

Prayer: Thank You for Your gift of life eternal. May we acknowledge and honor You throughout this day.

In all we do, let’s give thanks to God and honor Him.

Andrew Wommack’s Devotional 25 June 2018 – About Those Pharisees

Topic: About Those Pharisees [Andrew Wommack Monday June 25, 2018]

John 9:34 “They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.”

Text: John 9:34

Much of the Pharisees’ problem was spiritual pride, as is very evident by this statement. They were so blinded by their arrogance that they couldn’t believe anyone who hadn’t been through their “seminary” could teach them anything.

The name “Pharisees” comes from a Hebrew word meaning “separate.” This term was applied to this sect because of its extreme devotion to the Mosaic law and commitment to leading a separated life. This was a reaction of the devout Jews who came back to Jerusalem from the Babylonian captivity, and saw the pagan customs and influences of the Babylonians everywhere. Not only their religion but their identity as a nation was being threatened. The Pharisees were patriots as well as religious zealots, who in the beginning served a very needed function in the Jewish nation which was struggling for survival. However, over the centuries the Pharisees had departed from the Mosaic law and had written their own interpretations of the law – interpretations which they held to be God-inspired and equal to that of Moses. In Jesus’ day this group was characterized by hypocrisy and self-righteousness. They, as a whole, persecuted Jesus and His followers and received the Lord’s most stinging rebukes.

The Pharisees, like many people today, were ignorant of achieving right standing (righteousness) with God through the simple act of receiving His forgiveness by faith and were trying to earn salvation by their own acts. No one can fulfill God’s commands (Rom. 3:23) except Jesus (Heb. 4:15). Therefore, to be righteous, we must put our faith in what He has done for us.

Billy Graham Devotional 25 June 2018 – True Happiness

Topic: True Happiness [Billy Graham’s Devotional Monday June 25, 2018]

And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward . . . — Luke 12:42

It is not wrong for men to possess riches. But the Bible warns that money cannot buy happiness! Money cannot buy true pleasure. Money cannot buy peace of heart. And money certainly cannot buy entrance into the Kingdom of God. Often money is a hindrance to these things. Money takes our minds off God. Riches, when used selfishly rather than for the glory of God, tend to corrupt in our hands. Money cannot be a substitute for God. If God has given you more wealth than your neighbors, dedicate it to Christ. Realize that you are only a steward of that which God has given you and some day you will have to give an account of every penny you have spent. The Internal Revenue Service wants a record of how you spend your money, but that is nothing compared to the books God is keeping.

Prayer for the day: Father, I would be a faithful steward of all You have given to me. Make me constantly aware of Your leading so I may wisely spend any money with which I have been entrusted.

Open Heavens 25 (Monday) June 2018 — Let Your Obedience Be Complete

Topic: Let Your Obedience Be Complete [Open Heavens 25th June 2018, Monday Daily Devotional]

Memorise: And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.2 Corinthians 10:6

Read: 2 Kings 5:8-14 (KJV)

8 And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

9 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.

11 But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

Bible in One Year: 1 Chronicles 6-7, Acts 17:1-15

MESSAGE:

In the Body of Christ, we often talk about how Noah found grace in the sight of God, but we hardly mention what the Bible says about him in Genesis 6:22:

“Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.”

Noah was an obedient instrument in the hands of the Most High God, and God cherished him for that. To show the extent to which God cherishes obedience, Prophet Samuel in 1 Samuel 15:22 said:

“…Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”

Naaman’s story teaches that only complete obedience to divine instructions is rewarded. Prophet Elisha had instructed Naaman to go and wash in River Jordan seven times in order to receive healing from his leprosy. When he first heard this, he felt insulted for not being given a dignified reception, as Elisha did not even grant him face to face audience. He also felt insulted at the simplicity of what he was asked to do and where he was asked to do it. He was instructed to wash seven times in “dirty” River Jordan. His initial response to God’s instructions is captured in 2 Kings 5:12 as follows:

“Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.”

Thank God he had servant who persuaded him to do what the prophet had said. After his servant succeeded in persuading him, the result that followed shows that the pains of complete obedience pale in comparison to its benefits. 2 Kings 5:14 says,

“Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.”

Beloved, only after Naaman’s obedience was complete did he receive his miracle. The loss would have been great if Naaman had stopped dipping his body in the river after the fifth or sixth attempt, since nothing about his situation had changed. I pray that your obedience to the word of God will be complete, and you will receive your miracle thereafter in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Father, make my heart a fertile ground that is yielded to the complete obedience of divine instructions in Jesus’ Name.

Hymn 4: Trust And Obey

1. When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt nor a fear
Not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief nor a loss,
Not a frown nor a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.

4. But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favour He shows,
And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do
Where He sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey.
