Why Your Church Needs to Quadruple Its Outreach Efforts

Why Your Church Needs to Quadruple Its Outreach Efforts

  1. Many churches are in distressing inertia, and need a shock to the system
  2. We must reallocate our church’s resources
  3. Cultural Christianity is dead
  4. Outreach by invitation is on the rise (InviteYourOne.com)
  5. There is still receptivity to the gospel

Some highlights from today’s Rainer Report:

  • Too many churches are to the point where hardly anything they do is outwardly focused.
  • Most declining churches don’t lack resources, they lack obedience.
  • The death of cultural Christianity has separated the wheat from the chaff in our churches.
  • Churches who invite people to attend are churches who have guests who come. It really is that simple at times.

Nine-year-old girl sent to rehab after wetting herself while playing video game

A nine-year-old girl has been sent to rehab after she wet herself while refusing to stop playing the video game Fortnite.

“She was so hooked to the game she wouldn’t even go to the toilet,” her mother told a reporter. “My husband saw her light on in the night and found her sitting on a urine-soaked cushion playing the game.”

Fortnite has been played by 150 million people around the world this year.

The popularity of video games is so acute and addictive that the World Health Organization has now included “gaming disorder” in its classification of diseases. This disorder results in “significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning.”

Three reasons video games are so popular

In a recent study, 86 percent of video game players at least attended college. More than 8 percent completed graduate school. Video games are popular with every age demographic and with both men and women. They represent an $18 billion industry in the United States.

What does their popularity say about our culture? Why are they so alluring?

Obvious answers include the appeal of escaping real-life problems and the mental and emotional stimulation many gamers experience. But there’s more to the story.

Dr. Scott Rigby (PhD in clinical and social psychology) has been researching the appeal of video games. After several years spent investigating behavioral data and in-house studies from video game companies, he has identified three key components.

The first is our need for competence, a desire to master a situation. A second is autonomy, a desire to control our actions. A third is relatedness, a desire to matter to other people.

According to Dr. Rigby, video games offer powerful opportunities to meet all three needs.

Focusing on the third, anthropologist Alex Golub points to the collaborative appeal many video games offer. He joined a World of Warcraft group, participating four hours a night, four…

Fellow Methodists turn on lawmaker Jeff Sessions who defended immigration rules with Bible

More than 600 members of the United Methodist Church (UMC) say Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ endorsement of a new “zero tolerance” immigration policy infringes upon church law.

In the complaint, the 640 signatories accuse Mr Sessions of “child abuse” by introducing “practices that indefinitely separate thousands of young children from their parents” and “holding thousands of children in mass incarceration facilities with little to no structured educational or socio-emotional support.”

Taking a tougher stance on people illegally entering the country from Mexico has led to 2,000 children being separated from their families at the border, recent official statistics revealed.

Last week, Mr Sessions defended the new immigration policy by quoting chapter 13 of Romans, where Paul urges the believers in Rome to respect the God-given authority of their earthly leaders.

In response, the complaint accuses him of spreading “doctrines contrary to the standards of doctrine of the United Methodist Church”, through the “misuse of Romans 13 to indicate the necessity of obedience to secular law.”

Among the other charges clergy and lay members levelled against Mr Sessions – who is a UMC member and attends UMC churches in Alabama and Virginia – are “immorality” and “racial discrimination”.

Premier has contacted The United States Department of Justice for a comment.

Bible college principle swaps the UK for the Caribbean

After almost two decades in his current role, Dr Steve Brady (pictured left) is joining First Baptist Church on Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.

He said: “It has been a real tussle in decision-making for me, since I have been so privileged to have been at Moorlands College these many years.

“I am so grateful for all the love, support, prayer and friendship I have experienced here, not least in these last six months since my dear Brenda’s passing.”

In a note to colleagues, Dr Steve Brady said he has been associated with First Baptist for 20 years and he will leave Moorlands by the end of the year.

He continued: “Although, I expect my tenure as Principal of Moorlands will conclude by the end of this calendar year, Moorlands will be in excellent hands with a superb team of colleagues.

“I also expect to keep very strong links with the College as some students already have experienced block placements at First Baptist – I am expecting many more.

“I and the whole team are grateful for your interest and prayers.”

Dr Steve became only the third principal in the college’s 70 year history when he was appointed to the role in 1999.

Founded by David Clifford in 1947, Moorlands College offers Christian theology and training from an evangelical and non-denominational perspective from its site near Christchurch.

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 20 June 2018 Devotional — Get in the Flow

Topic: Get in the Flow [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Wednesday June 20, 2018]

Be self-controlled and alert…standing firm in your faith. — 1 Peter 5:8-9 (NIV)

I have never been much of a swimmer. I may not be the best at fighting the current, but I can float. It is wonderful just to trust the water to keep us up and go with the flow. We can trust God to keep us afloat through the rapids and lead us to still waters.

The Bible says God’s mercy and loving-kindness are new every morning (See Lamentations 3:22– 23). His mercy isn’t just there waiting for us; it is new, fresh, flowing, and powerful every new day. We need to get in the flow of God’s river of life early each day and learn to float on the power of His presence.

Prayer Starter: Lord, thank You for this new day. Help me to live this day with You, always mindful of Your presence. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Theresa May urges Christians to engage in public life ‘for the common good’

Theresa May, who is the third PM to attend the annual National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast, also said Christianity had “transformed the United Kingdom”.

In a written message to guests, she described the event as “an excellent opportunity both to celebrate Christians’ ongoing contribution to this country and to reflect on the role Christianity can play in contemporary public life.”

Mrs May joined 470 politicians – including almost 170 Members of Parliament and peers – and church leaders in singing hymns and reciting the Lord’s prayer in Westminster Hall. A keynote speech was delivered by the American and Presbyterian pastor Tim Keller.

Emphasising how Christianity has helped shaped the nation, she went on to say: “Over the past two millennia, the Christian gospel has transformed the United Kingdom, with its values and teachings helping to shape the laws, customs and society of the country in which we live.”

Jacob Rees-Mogg MP, Tim Farron MP, Rt Hon Ian Blackford MP and Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith MP were among public figures who also attended the event – which included seminars on topics including tackling modern-day slavery and the centenary year of women gaining the right to vote.

In her note to attendees, the PM also said: “Whether you are a Parliamentarian or constituent, I encourage all of you to continue your engagement as Christians in public life for the…

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional Wednesday, 20 June 2018 – Accountability Partner

TOPIC: Accountability Partner (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Wednesday, 20 June 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Thessalonians 5: 9-11

MEMORY VERSE: “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” – James 5:16

The MESSAGE:
There are many temptations in the world today and satan is always striving to create even more. In the face of such temptations, many Christians must seek out an “accountability partner”, one to pray with and help share the burdens that come as they grow in the Lord. It is always better to have a brother or sister we can count on when we are facing temptations. King David was alone the evening satan tempted him into adultery with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11). The Bible tells us we fight a war not of “…flesh and blood, but against principalities, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness of this world”. (Ephesians 6:12).

Knowing we are in a battle against the forces of darkness, we should seek for help around us and this may include making ourselves accountable to another believer who can encourage us in this fight.

Paul tells us that we must be equipped with all the power that God supplies to fight this battle. “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand (Ephesians 6:13). We know without a doubt that temptation will come, and we should be prepared.

The devil knows our weaknesses and he knows when we are vulnerable. He knows we have negative thoughts even though our action says otherwise. He knows when we are at the verge of giving up. Where do we find help? We want to do what is right in the sight of God, yet, we are weak, what do we do?

The writer of Hebrews summed it up when he said: “And let us consider one another, to provoke unto love and unto good works:” Not forsaking the assembly of ourselves together as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24-25). The body of Christ is interconnected and we have a duty to each other, to build each other up. Also, James buttressed this fact when he said, “confess your faults, one to another, and pray one for another as that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16).

Knowing you are responsible and accountable to someone can be helpful in the battle to overcome sin. A partner WHO IS ACCOUNTABLE can be there to encourage you, rebuke, teach you, rejoice with you, and share your burden. Every Christian should consider having an “accountability-partner” with whom he or she can pray, talk, confide and confess.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Effective ministry often erupts from a small team.

PROPHETIC WORD:
The Holy Spirit will connect you to your accountability partner

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Every trap of the enemy set for me, catch your owner, in the name of Jesus.
2. My eyes will not send me to hell fire, in the name of Jesus.
3. My divine accountability partner, appear, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Any sin I have committed in secret, I confess it now, in the name of Jesus.
5. I put on my whole armour of God, in the name of Jesus.
6. Satanic agenda to harvest my destiny, fail, in the name of Jesus.
7. Holy Ghost fire, incubate my life, in the name of Jesus.

Teens Open Heavens 20 June 2018 – Down From Horse Back?

Topic: Down From Horse Back? [Teens Open Heavens 20, June 2018]

Memorise: For a servant when he Reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat; Proverbs 30:22

Read: Proverbs 30:21-23 (KJV)

21 For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:

22 For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;

23 For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.

Bible In One Year: Nehemiah 12-13, Acts 4:23-37

MESSAGE:

A while back in one of our churches, I was invited to speak on ‘Surviving In a Coastal Environment.’ And I wondered why instead of ‘Surviving’ they hadn’t used ‘Triumphing’. It is ignorance to think that because 1 Peter 2:21 says Jesus suffered and left His footprints for us to follow, therefore we should be poor and beggarly. No, we are to follow His steps in power, holiness, glory, et cetera.

Some believers have misinterpreted the command to carry your cross and follow Jesus to mean that we should live in poverty and suffering. They have forgotten that He came to give us abundant life. Tell God of your desire to live in the abundance He died to give you today, and begin to live with the attitude of the liberated and the wealthy.

Prayer Point: I begin to walk in the abundance of Christ!

Hymn 11:

1. Stand up! stand up for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the Cross!
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss.
From victory unto victory
His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished,
And Christ is Lord indeed.

2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The solemn watchword hear;
If while ye sleep he suffers,
Away with shame and fear.
Where’re ye meet with evil,
Within you or without,
Charge for the God of battles,
And put the foe to rout.

3. Stand up! stand up for Jesus !
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you,
Ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the gospel armour,
Each piece put on with prayer;
When duty calls or danger,
Be never wanting there.

4. Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song.
To him that overcometh
A crown of life shall be;
He with the King of glory
Shall reign eternally.

Daily Devotional for Teen’s guide was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, one of the largest evangelical church in the world and also the President of Christ the Redeemer’s Ministries.
