TREM Devotional 31 May 2018 by Dr. Mike Okonkwo – Increase Your Capacity

Topic: Increase Your Capacity [TREM Devotional Thursday May 31, 2018]

“Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few…. And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, there is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.” – 2 Kings 4:3, 6

Beloved, you can no longer afford to do small things; look around you, the rest of the world is making giant strides and taking territories. So, why would believers, the ones who have the dominion mandate, do any less? God intends for us to be at the forefront of the different sectors in our society, but if you do not have the capacity to receive the mighty things that God has released, then even though that is God’s will for you, your capacity will place a cap on His supply.

We are all very familiar with our text; the widow found herself in a terrible situation. Not only was she mourning her husband, who was a prophet, a child of God, committed and devoted, but also her husband left bad debt for the family. Now the creditors had come to take her two sons as slaves, as payment for the debt. She ran to meet the Prophet, Elisha. He asked her what she had in the house, and she told him nothing except a small flask of oil. We then see in v.3, Prophet Elisha instructs her to go and borrow vessels, and if you read carefully, he said, “…borrow not a few”. Did you see that? In other words, don’t borrow one, two, five vessels, but borrow as many as you can lay your hands on. So, if it’s 200, borrow them, because your capacity determines the extent of the supply.

Child of God, you serve an Unlimited God, and there’s no limit to His supply. Elisha instructed the widow to lock herself in and pour oil into the vessels she borrowed, and just as he said, she was able to fill up all the vessels, till there was no more vessel and then the oil “stayed”. Another translation says “… the oil stopped flowing”. You must note that the oil didn’t stop flowing because the oil was finished, but because there were no more vessels to fill.

Arise and shine, let the world know that you serve a Mighty God.

DCLM Daily Manna 31 May, 2018 by Pastor Kumuyi – Dealing With Complaints

Topic: Dealing With Complaints [DCLM Daily Manna Thursday May 31, 2018]

Text: Nehemiah 5:1-13 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise” (Nehemiah 5:12).

MESSAGE:

Nehemiah, the wise and faithful governor, while busy with rebuilding Jerusalem wall and fighting off attacks of the enemies abroad, was also confronted with complaints of the people. He was bold and active to redress grievances at home and keep the people from destroying one another.

In the verses under consideration, the poor brethren complained about the hardship the rich brethren had put them. They had had to mortgage their lands, vineyards and houses to buy food because of the famine. Some borrowed money to pay taxes; gave out their children into bondage as servants and were not in a position to redeem them. The situation was so pathetic that Nehemiah was very angry when he heard their cry and these words.

Nehemiah attended quickly to the complaints not minding the serious business of building the wall because he knew that no matter how thick the wall was built, dispute within the town would break the wall. He rebuked the nobles with wisdom by including himself as part of the problem. This made the nobles unable to defend themselves as he called them to deal with their brethren in the fear of the Lord and because of the reproach of the enemies.

Every human association is characterised by differences in ideas, interest, understanding, status and position. Association among people, particularly in the workplace, and the church is not spared as these demographic, cultural and intellectual diversities sometimes throw up disagreements, disputes or doctrinal misunderstanding. When these arise amongst believers, willing submission to godly efforts to contain the situation is key to bringing about a resolution of the dispute. It also makes believers yield to divinely ordained authority whose counsel and decisions should be final as long as it does not contradict God’s revealed word.

Thought For The Day: Godly counsel is useful to resolve disputes.

Seeds of Destiny 31 May 2018 by Pastor Paul Enenche: Proofs Of Solid Spirituality

Topic: Proofs Of Solid Spirituality [Seeds of Destiny Thursday May 31, 2018]

Scripture: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. – Matthew 6:33

Thought For The Day: The higher a person goes with God, the humbler he becomes.

Yesterday, we saw the value of spirituality; we saw that the true needs of man are spiritual, and that when the spiritual is handled, every other thing flows. We also saw that a true spiritual person is responsible, operates with high mentality and is reliable.

Today, we want to look at products or proofs of spirituality. I will give you two of them:

i) Spirituality is doorway to tenacity
Tenacity is the capacity to withstand pressure and keep on keeping on (Job 14:14). Spirituality facilitates optimism, positivism, enthusiasm. A spiritual person is a real fighter; he does not give up and does not take ‘No’ for an answer. He is a goal-getter.

ii) Spirituality anchors humility
The more spiritual people get, the humbler they become. This is because the Almightiness of God always reveals the nothingness of man. Humility is necessary because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:7). The humbler we get, the more engraced we become; the humbler we get, the more lifted we get.

Humility means the capacity to receive positive and constructive advice. Humility means the admission of ignorance until proven otherwise. Humility means teach-ability; that is, being teachable.

Some time ago, a young man who submits to me in Ministry was telling me some things; when he was through, I told him to put those things in writing and email them to me. This is how we should live; you are willing to learn from anybody.

Beloved, my counsel is, be tenacious in your approach to life; get closer to God in order to be like Him in humility.

Remember this: The higher a person goes with God, the humbler he becomes.

Assignments:
1. Maintain the lifestyle of tenacity.
2. Make up your mind to be always humble before God and men.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask that You give me the grace to be tenacious and humble. I ask for a buoyant spiritual life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heavens 31st May 2018 Thursday Daily Devotional – Dry Bones Shall Live Again

Topic: Dry Bones Shall Live Again [Open Heavens 31st May 2018, Thursday]

Memorise: Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: John 11:25

Read: Ezekiel 37:1-10 (KJV)

1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,

2 And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.

3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.

4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.

5 Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.

8 And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.

9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.

10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

Bible in One Year: 1 Kings 9-10, Acts 3

MESSAGE:

Bones are often associated with dead bodies or with death itself. Dry human bones symbolize a human body that has been dead for an extended period of time: in some cases, for hundreds or thousands of years. By this time, it is impossible for anyone in the right frame of mind to contemplate any means by which such bones will come back to life again. This was the situation in the valley of dry bones when God asked Ezekiel, “Son of man, can these bones live?” knowing well that it was impossible by any human means for those bones to live, but also being conscious of the fact that he was standing before the one that created the universe by the power of His word, Ezekiel tactically answered by saying “O Lord God, thou knowest.” Then the Lord asked the prophet to prophesy to the bones, and in Ezekiel 37:7, as soon as he prophesied, this happened:

“…there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.

I therefore prophesy to everything that stands as dry bones in your life and to every symbol of death in your family; hear the word of the Lord: Be restored back to life now in the Name of Jesus.

In Ezekiel’s vision of dry bones brought back to life by God’s Spirit, the resurrection of the bones is used as a symbol. Ezekiel’s vision is not directly related life after death, but rather with the salvation of God’s people from captivity and exile. Some people are locked up in a strange land, enjoying the pleasures of sin, some are addicted to harmful behaviors, burdened by their conscience and far away from the Spirit of God. They are dead like the dry bones! However, as the Spirit of God sends the breath of life into them, their return to their creator can be likened to new life rising from the grave. To anyone that is in bondage, captivity or exile, to anyone that has been displaced from his or her position, to anyone that is being told that he or she has reached a point of no return in life, I decree once again: Let there be a noise and a shaking from heaven that will set you free from now on in Jesus’ Name. The dry bones were sitting quietly in their forgotten state, fully surrendered to the power of death that held them bound. They were without any hope until God told Ezekiel to prophesy to them. One more time, I prophesy that the wind of the Holy Spirit will blow against every agent of death that is holding your life and destiny bound right now in the Name of Jesus. This marks the beginning of real progress in your life and henceforth you will be unstoppable in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Father, please let everything about me that is dead and dry live again by Your grace and power, in Jesus’ Name.

Stock Markets Reverse Course and Surge as Italy’s Fears Fade

Banks and energy companies surged Wednesday and smaller companies made huge gains as stocks got back almost all the ground they lost the day before. Investors reversed course as they hoped Italy would be able to avoid a new round of elections after all.

Financial companies rallied as bond yields turned higher and energy companies rose along with U.S. crude oil, which busted out of a five-day losing streak. The shift came after Carlo Cottarelli, nominated to be Italy’s next prime minister, said there were “new possibilities” to form a government.

Stocks had plunged the previous day as investors expected gridlock to be resolved with new elections that could have turned into a yes-or-no referendum deciding whether Italy would continue to use the euro.

JJ Kinahan, chief market strategist for TD Ameritrade, said the market often reacts irregularly to political events like the uncertainty in Italy or tensions between the U.S. and North Korea: stocks often fall fast and then recover in quick fashion. That process can sometimes repeat itself weeks or months later.

“If there’s no follow-up news, they tend to come back near where they started,” he said. “I wouldn’t count on it being done for the summer.”

The S&P 500 index jumped 34.15 points, or 1.3 percent, to 2,724.01. The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 306.33 points, or 1.3 percent, to 24,667.78. The Nasdaq composite gained 65.86 points, or 0.9 percent, to 7,462.45.

While the S&P 500 and Nasdaq recovered Tuesday’s losses and then some, smaller and more U.S.-focused companies did ever better as investors continued…

Gaza Truce Brings Little Relief to Volatile Situation

With a cease-fire declared Wednesday, Israel and Hamas appear to have pulled back from a fourth war after a day of intense rocket fire and airstrikes. But the situation could explode at any moment.

Tuesday’s fighting was the heaviest since a 2014 war, with Palestinian militants firing scores of rockets and mortars into Israel, and Israel carrying out dozens of airstrikes in Gaza.

Both sides appeared to have accomplished some short-term goals. But the underlying issues that helped fuel the fighting remain in place.

Hamas, weakened by a decade-long blockade of Gaza, remains defiant and in distress. A confident Israel appears unrestrained by the United States or its Middle Eastern neighbors. Palestinian militants still have an arsenal of rockets and could potentially inflict damage or casualties in Israel, followed by Israeli retaliation.

Here’s a look at the current state of play and potential for escalation.

___

HOW DID WE GET HERE?

Eleven years after seizing control of Gaza from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Hamas is in trouble.

Gaza’s economy has been battered by an Israeli-Egyptian blockade, imposed to prevent the group from arming. Three wars with Israel have brought widespread destruction, and the Islamic militant group has no close international allies to bail it out.

Frustrated with his inability to regain control of Gaza, Abbas has stepped up economic pressure on Hamas by cutting the electricity supply and reducing the salaries to tens of thousands of former civil servants in Gaza.

Running out of options and rejecting calls to disarm, Hamas has led a series of…

Biblical Counselors Association Pulls ‘Abuse’ Conference From SWBTS Over Paige Patterson Controversy

(WIKIMEDIA COMMONS/MICHAEL-DAVID BRADFORD)The BH Carroll Memorial Building at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Association of Certified Biblical Counselors has announced that it will no longer hold its annual gathering in October at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas in light of the controversies surrounding the seminary’s former president Paige Patterson.

In a statement posted Tuesday, ACBC Executive Director Heath Lambert explains that the certification organization has found another venue in the Fort Worth area to host its annual gathering on Oct. 1–3.

The decision was made to pull the conference from SWBTS over Patterson’s nearly two-decades old comments in which he said he never counseled couples to get a divorce even in abusive situations, but said there were cases in which he advised a temporary separation due to the danger of abuse; and because he reportedly encouraged a female student in 2003 not to report a rape.

With this year’s ACBC conference focusing on the topic of abuse, the association decided over a year ago to host the conference at the SWBTS. That was long before the institution became the center of a massive media firestorm in the last month after details of Patterson’s past comments…

Arkansas Priest Hopes to Spread Gospel as Contestant on ‘American Ninja Warrior’

(Photo: Instagram)Fr. Stephen Gadberry, a Catholic priest in the Diocese of Little Rock, Arkansas, will be a contestant on the new season of the NBC reality show “American Ninja Warrior,” which begins on May 30, 2018.

Father Stephen Gadberry, pastor of St. Mary Church in Batesville and St. Cecilia Church in Newport, Arkansas, will appear as a contestant on the new season of the popular NBC reality show “American Ninja Warrior,” to compete for the $1 million grand prize when it kicks off on Wednesday night and he’s also hoping to share his faith while he’s at it.

Gadberry, 32, in addition to being a priest, is a physical trainer who previously served in the U.S. Air Force.

He told the Catholic News Agency that he was inspired to apply to compete on the show by Sean Bryan, another proud Catholic contestant who competed on the show twice and was known for wearing a shirt reflecting the colors of the papal flag and words “Papal Ninja.”

And while the competition comes with the $1 million grand prize, Gadberry told the publication that his main motivation to compete is to evangelize.

“[Evangelizing] is the primary reason for me doing this. The Lord tells us to go out and make disciples of all nations,” he said. “As this platform has stumbled into my lap … I can further…

‘The Trump Prophecy’ Film Will Tell the Story of One Man’s Vision of Trump’s Presidency

‘The Trump Prophecy’ Film Will Tell the Story of One Man’s Vision of Trump’s Presidency

Liberty University students and faculty have been working on a feature-length film that will be shown in over 1,000 theaters across the country. The film is called “The Trump Prophecy” and explores how one man’s prophecy and a prayer movement apparently helped to elect President Trump.

The Christian Post reports that about 56 Liberty students and faculty members have been working on the project. The film tells the story of how retired Florida firefighter Mark Taylor reportedly saw a vision from God in April 2011 in which God told him that Donald Trump would be president one day.

Taylor’s story had previously been told in the book The Trump Prophecies: The Astonishing True Story of the Man Who Saw Tomorrow… and What He Says Is Coming Next.

Taylor’s vision launched a prayer movement based on the Scripture passage in II Chronicles 7:14, which says:

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Stephan Schultze, the executive director of Liberty’s Cinematic Arts Department, told The Christian Post, “I hope it reflects an understanding that when people come together in prayer, how valuable that is not only for the people that are praying but for what they are praying…
